Rest Stop

Dean finished packing up the Impala and stretched his arms, listening as his back popped. He and Sam had decided to go on another one of their little road trips with the angels for some rest and relaxation. They definitely needed it after spending several days arguing with contractors over the phone and being cramped up in Jody's home with Alex and Lucifer.

"We're ready, Dwean!" a little voice called from behind.

"I'm sorry?" Dean asked, expression turning to one of mock confusion. "Who's Dwean?" He turned around just as Cas jumped at him. Dean opened his arms, catching the angel.

"D-E-A-N!" Cas shouted, sounding out the hunter's name. Dean smiled and mentally added a point on his side of his and Cas' scoreboard.

"That's better," Dean chimed. He glanced over Cas' shoulder, watching as Sam walked over with a few duffle bags and both Gabriel and Balthazar. He waved a hand at them and pulled the back door open for Sammy. The younger hunter tossed the duffle bags he had been carrying into the foot well and looked to his brother.

"Ready?"

"Ready," Dean concluded. He set Cas down in the back and stepped back so Balthazar and Gabriel could climb in next to their brother. Once all three angels were squished together in the back, Dean shut the door and climbed into the driver's seat. Sam shut his door after crawling in and Dean stepped on the gas, racing out of the driveway and down the road. Sam set his laptop on his lap, checking out a few routs on google maps. The angels pressed their faces against the windows and watched the scenery change through the glass. Dean grinned at them through the mirror and looked to his brother.

"So what's the plan?" Dean asked while his little brother clicked out of google maps on his computer. "We cruise around like usual or…?"

"Cruise," Sam decided, shutting his computer and shoving it into the bag by his feet. "I don't feel like going anywhere in particular, do you?" Dean shook his head and looked back to the road. His fingers reached from the steering wheel down to the radio. He pressed a button and the tape inside started to whirl. Music blasted throughout the Impala. It was Eye of the Tiger, one of Dean's favorites. The hunter slapped his hands against the steering wheel and bobbed his head to the music. The angels turned their gaze from the windows and watched the hunter in the front seat, giggling as Dean jerked his head back and forth. Dean smiled at them through the mirror and opened his mouth wide in song as the lyrics blasted from the speakers.

"Rising up!" Dean shouted. "Back on the street!"

"Did my time, took my chances!" the angels sang from the back.

"Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet – come on Sammy!" Dean cried. Sam rolled his eyes, but he couldn't keep the smile off his face.

"Just a man and his will to survive," Sam awkwardly sang along. The angels cheered for the younger Winchester and sang through the next few verses, copying Dean's movements from before as they jammed out. Dean's foot slammed harder on the gas and they blasted down the blacktop roads of Nebraska, rocking and rolling like Winchesters should.

"Don't make me turn this car around!" Dean shouted in annoyance at the three very annoying angels in the back. It had only been six hours since they left Jody's, but with a five, six, and seven year old that didn't matter. Six hours, was six hours too many.

"Are we there yet?" Balthazar whined, resting his head on top of Gabriel's.

"We're not even out of Nebraska yet, Balt," Sam groaned. Balthazar let out another whine.

"But I have to go to the bathroom!" Dean grit his teeth together.

"I told you to go before we left!"

"I did!" the angel shouted back.

"Balt, please don't shout," Sammy pleaded, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Dwean!" Dean turned the music up on the radio, hoping to drown out anymore whining. "D-E-A-N!"

"What? Cas, what the hell is it?" Dean growled, glaring into the mirror.

"Gabby won't stop touching me!" the angel cried.

"Gabe, don't touch your brother," Sam ordered.

"I'm not touching him!" called Gabby. His finger was posed exactly one centimeter away from Cas' neck.

"Yes you are!" Cas squealed, batting away his brother's hand.

"ENOUGH!" Dean cried. He turned the steering wheel sharply and everyone lurched to the left as the Impala took a hard turn. Dean pulled into the nearest possible rest stop and parked the car. "Everybody out," Dean hissed. "You've got five minutes to get the ants out of your pants before we go again." Cas frowned at the hunter.

"Dwean, I don't have ants in my pants," Castiel stated with a look of confusion. Dean rolled his eyes and got out of the car, opening the door for the angels.

"Figure of speech, Cas. Why don't you help Sammy check out the vending machines?" The little angel nodded and tottered over to the stretching hunter a few feet away. Dean sighed and looked to Gabriel and Balthazar. "Let's find the bathroom, yeah?" The angels nodded, following the hunter to the outdoor restroom hidden behind several parked trucks. The angels stared at the white doors for the toilets. Random words and strange messages were scribbled on both sides of each door. The two angels looked over the scribbles, running door to door.

"Look! This one says 'bad wolf'!" Balthazar cried, pointing at the toilet door two from the end.

"This one says 'this is my design'," Gabriel called from the first stall.

"I thought you had to go to the bathroom?" Dean questioned, leaning up against one of the dirty sinks in the restroom. The angels peaked at him past the doors they were reading.

"But the doors –"

"Just do your business and I'll give you a pen to draw something on the doors when you finish," Dean bribed. The toilet doors slammed shut behind the angels and Dean let out a sigh of relief. "Finally!" he sighed. Dean turned around and stared at his reflection in the mirror. He turned the sink on, splashing some water onto his face and cooling himself down. He looked back at his dripping wet reflection. "What have you gotten yourself into?" he asked himself.

"Talking to yourself? You know that's a sign of old age, right?" teased Gabriel. Dean glared into the mirror at the reflection of the golden winged angel walking over to him. Dean didn't comment. Instead, Dean stepped to the side and helped Gabriel up so he could reach the sink. Dean pumped some soap onto his own hand and then rubbed it over Gabriel's. The angel rubbed his hands together and the toilet two from the end of the row flushed. Balthazar crawled out from the bottom of the stall then and walked over to Dean and Gabe.

"Couldn't get the door to open?" Dean questioned. Balthazar nodded and held his hands up. Dean set Gabriel down on the ground again and lifted Balthazar, repeating the same motions he'd used when helping Gabriel.

After cleaning up, Dean gave the angels each a pen from his pocket for them to add some new scribbles to the bathroom stalls. Dean led the angels out of the bathroom once they doodled something on each door. They found Cas and Sam back in the Impala. The two were enjoying some gummy bears they bought from the vending machines nearby. Sam looked up as Dean, Balthy, and Gabe hopped into the Impala.

"Good to go?" he asked. Dean nodded, turning the key in the ignition and pulling slowly out onto the road. The angels were quiet in the back, focused on the candy and other snacks Sam had bought for them. Dean felt himself relax and he turned the radio on, keeping the volume at a peaceful level. Sam reclined back in his seat, throwing a hand over his face and closing his eyes.

"I spy with my little eye…" Dean heard Gabriel murmur from the back seat. The stress from before slowly drained away as Dean listened to the angels play a quiet game of I Spy. He knew the peace would be short lived, but he'd take what he could get.
