Touring the Bunker
Benny knocked on the bunker door with one hand. The other held little Rachel. The angel was playing with his beard, giggling at how prickly it was against her soft skin.
"You are sure this is it?" Kali questioned, staring at the bunker with her arms crossed over her chest. Benny nodded in answer and stretched out his hearing. He could hear footsteps growing closer on the other side of the door.
The door clicked open and Benny smiled as Dean Winchester appeared on the other side with a conked out Castiel in his arms. Benny pulled the man into a hug, careful not to jostle the angels.
"It's good to see you, brother," Benny said while pulling back.
"Good to see you too, Benny." Dean looked at the angel glaring at him in Benny's arms. He held out a hand. "Nice to meet you again, Rachel." Rachel glared at the offered hand and slapped it away. Benny's eyes widened.
"Rachel!" Benny cried. "You–"
"Benny, it's alright. We've got history," Dean explained. Benny frowned, but didn't say anything more about. He didn't really think he wanted to know just what Dean meant about history.
Dean turned Castiel a little in his arms so the angel's face was visible. There was a small dreamy smile on the drooling angel's face. Rachel stared at the angel sadly.
"You were right," Dean told her. Rachel's eyes snapped up to meet his. "I only called him when I needed him. I should've…" Dean trailed off and sighed, brushing his free hand through Cas' hair lightly. "I don't know," he admitted. "If I got the chance to go back and stop that mess I honestly don't know what I would've done." Dean stretched his hand out to her again. "I'm here for him now though and he's here for me. I'm sorry, Rachel." Rachel stared Dean in the eyes and then looked to her sleeping brother again. She let out a little sigh and placed her hand in Dean's. Dean gave her hand a gentle squeeze.
"Charlie's girlfriend made Lasagna for supper and there are cookies, but everybody probably has those eaten up by now," Dean said, pulling his hand back from Rachel slowly. He waved them into the bunker and led them down a stretch of hall. He paused as Cas nearly rolled out of his arms. "Damn worm," he grumbled, shifting his hold on Cas so the angel's face was buried against his neck. Cas hummed in his sleep, snuggling closer to the hunter. Dean looked to Benny and Kali. "You guys go on ahead. I'm going to put Cas to bed."
"Where's the library?" Kali questioned. Dean pointed down the hall, telling them which ways to turn and what rooms to go through. When he finished he disappeared into a room with Cas wrapped in his arms.
"Did anybody get any of that?" Benny questioned, running the directions Dean had just given them through his head. Kali and Rachel shook their heads. Benny let out a sigh. Great. He looked around and waved a hand at the hall in front of them. "Guess we'll just go straight," he decided. He started forward, throwing Rachel onto his shoulders so she could get a good view of the bunker. There wasn't really much to see in the long hallway. There were just more halls or doors leading to other places. Some of the doors were labeled with words or numbers, but none of them said anything about a library.
"I believe he said to take a left here," Kali said, pointing to the left. Benny and Rachel peaked down the hall. Benny stretched out his hearing and sniffed the air, trying to detect anyone nearby. Something tickled the inside of his nose and Benny held back the urge to sneeze.
"I can smell feathers," he sniffled, nodding in the direction Kali had suggested going. "There's definitely an angel down there."
"Angel! Angel!" Rachel cheered excitedly. Benny patted her foot lightly and led the way down the hall, using his nose to steer the way.
"In there," Kali stated suddenly, pointing at a partially opened door. There was shouting coming from within. Benny pushed the door open the rest of the way and peaked inside. He couldn't see any angels. All he could see were a bunch of shelves stocked with boxes and other stuff. He frowned and looked up at Kali. The goddess was staring straight ahead, glaring at two large shelves like they held some sort of secret.
Apparently they did.
Kali walked into the room and waved a hand at the shelves. They rattled and two both Rachel and Benny's amazement the shelves moved. A whole other room opened up behind the two shelves. Inside there was a devil's trap and a few torture devises set out on a table.
"So this must be the dungeon," Benny hummed, remembering Dean mentioning it in the phone call the other day.
"And they must be who were shouting," Kali stated, watching as two angels and two demons chased each other around the devil's trap. The demons were both crawling on their hands and knees while the angels flew above. Kali stepped into the dungeon and grabbed Gabriel mid-flight. The angel squeaked in surprise, but calmed when he realized who was holding him.
"What's shaken, Kali?" Gabriel flirted cheekily. Kali rolled her eyes at the angel.
"What are you doing playing in a dungeon?" she questioned. Gabriel shrugged and glanced back at his brother, Crowley, and Abaddon. The three had stopped chasing each other and were now staring at Kali, Benny, and Rachel.
"What better place to play, right?"
"You guys have any idea where the library is? Dean told us to head up that way." Gabriel raised a brow at Benny.
"How did you guys get down here without going through the library? The library is almost straight ahead from the front door." Benny and Kali shared a look at each other, silently blaming on another for messing up Dean's simple directions.
"Don't worry. We'll take you to the library," Balthazar said, flying up and landing on Benny's right shoulder right next to Rachel. He smiled at his little sister. "Long time no –" Rachel thwacked him over the head with a wing and Balthazar fell off of Benny's shoulder. Benny caught the dazed angel.
"I'm guessing you two have some history?" he questioned. Balthazar groaned and glared up at Rachel. She stuck her tongue out at him.
"Could say that," Balthazar huffed, clearing his throat. "We were sort of on the same side during a war. I was the commander's favorite and –"
"Me favorite!" Rachel hissed.
"He killed me last, darling," Balthazar reminded her. He paused then. "Well, I say killed…"
"Wait…what? Killed?" Benny gasped.
"Don't even try to understand it," Gabriel stated within Kali's arms. "It'll just give you a headache and the first aid is out of Tylenol." Gabriel tugged on Kali's hair and pointed forward. "Now, let's go to the library!" Kali pulled her hair out of Gabriel's hand and started forward. The baby demons followed her, crawling close. Benny trailed after them, staring at the miniature Crowley and Abaddon.
"So Dean wasn't kidding about this new plan of God's then? Demons are getting shrunk down too now?" he questioned.
"Yep!" Balthazar shouted, peaking over Benny's big arms at the demons. "Charlie and Lydia already figured out which dots were supposed to be demons and which were angels on the table top thanks to the Doctor."
"Wait? Doctor? Doctor who?" Gabriel and Balthazar burst into hysterics, nearly falling out of Benny and Kali's arms. "What?" Benny questioned. "What did I say?"
"Everything!" the angels chortled, tears slipping down their faces. Benny looked to Kali, wondering if she knew what was going on, but she just stared forward with the same serious look on her face that she always had.
The angels' laughter died when they finally made it into the library. It was bigger than what Benny had imagined and ten times grander. He let out a low whistle as he looked around. His eyes fell onto Sam as he looked over to a large opening leading to another room. He grinned and walked over, hollering at the younger Winchester. Sam looked up, grinning.
"Hey, Benny," he greeted. He looked to Kali, nodding at her before leading them into the war room. Charlie and Lila were sitting around their laptops, tapping furiously. Kevin and Bobby stood next to them, staring at the screens intently.
Sam quickly introduced Lila to Kali, Benny, and Rachel since it was the first time they actually met face to face. He then showed them the map table centered in the room. Benny and Kali looked it over with wide eyes.
"So this shows where every angel and demon is?" Kali questioned. Sam nodded.
"Yeah, the girls are trying to make it possible for the computer to print out directions to where they all are…" Sam paused, looking over his shoulder at the two girls poking away at their computers. "How's that going by the way?" Lila looked up from her computer and gave him a thumbs up.
"Should have it ready to go sometime tomorrow afternoon." Benny raised a brow at her.
"That soon?"
"Dude, you're talking to the queens of computers," Kevin chuckled. "If Lila and Charlie can't do it then no one can." Benny nodded, turning his head as a familiar scent hit him. He smiled as Dean walked into the room.
"Got your angel settled?" he questioned. Dean let out a sigh, running a hand through his hair.
"Yeah, he's out like a light. He really got wiped out from making TV characters pop out of Sam's TV," Dean explained.
"He can do that already?" Dean nodded and a small smile twitched at the corners of his lips. He picked Balthazar out of Benny's arms and ruffled the angel's wings.
"They're growing up so fast," the hunter sighed sadly. Balthazar huffed, bopping Dean on the nose lightly with his pointer.
"Oh, come on, Dean. You can't wait for us to grow up," Balthazar teased. "You'll send us off to college, teach us how to drive, bail us out of jail, dance at our weddings…"
"Better stop, angel. You're going to get him all choked up," Bobby chuckled. Dean glared at the old hunter.
"I'm not getting choked up!" Dean defended.
"Don't worry, Pops, we'll visit you in the retirement home," Gabe giggled. Dean glared at the angel, smiling when Kali tapped Gabriel over the head for teasing. Dean cleared his throat and gave his attention fully to Benny.
"So, how do you like the place so far?" he asked, changing the subject. Benny perked up and gave the bunker a once over.
"It's pretty sweet, brother. Can't believe you're giving this place up."
"It's awesome, but Sam and I aren't spending all our hard earned cash on building a new house to just leave it for an awesome bunker."
"Hard earned cash?" Charlie questioned.
"Hey, pool's a tough game," Dean defended. "So is making fake credit cards."
"Whatever you say, Dean, Charlie chuckled.
"We're very grateful to you," Kali said suddenly, bringing the conversation back onto the bunker. "This place will make things much easier for us."
"Glad to hear it," Sam said happily. Charlie's stomach growled suddenly from across the room and Sam glanced over at her.
"Hungry much?"
"Messing with ancient computers is a lot of work, Sammy," Charlie defended. She rubbed at her belly, glancing at Lila. "I sure hope your lasagna cooled down by now. I'm starving." Lila shut her computer and set it down on a nearby table.
"Should be," she hummed, stretching her arms. She looked to Benny. "Uh…Sorry, there's garlic in it…" Benny belted out a laugh, waving off her apology with a big hand.
"Vampires don't have a problem with garlic," he told her. He pulled Rachel from his shoulders, holding her in his arms. "You hungry?" he asked her. The angel bobbed her head up and down enthusiastically and Benny trailed into the library with the others. Lila and Charlie disappeared out of the giant library to get the food from the kitchen and everyone else took a seat at the long table in the center of the library. They chattered to one another, telling stories of their few adventures or random things in general. Kevin explained what Balthazar and Gabriel had been laughing at Benny for only a few minutes ago, but even then Benny didn't really get it. Dean promised to set up Netflix on the TV later and show him and Benny full heartedly agreed. When Lila and Charlie showed up they all got to munching on the delicious lasagna, saving Cas a piece for whenever he woke up from his recharge. It was nice sitting down and having supper with family. Benny almost wished that the whole gang would stay in the bunker with them instead of leaving in a few days. It was going to be quiet with only three living in the giant bunker. Then again, there wasn't going to be just three for very long. The map on the war room table had proved that. No, in no time at all, the bunker would be as full as it was now. Heck, maybe it would be even fuller.
