The day after our arrival in Willow Falls, I woke up in my tent. Boy, I could not wait to save up enough to get an actual house. Ellie, Crimson and I worked together to catch and sell as many fish and bugs as we could, splitting the money evenly between us. I was about halfway there, if I had to approximate. I grabbed my fishing rod and bug net and walked out of the tent to catch some more, when I noticed two figures standing just a bit down the road.

"Listen, we need to do this perfectly after we failed the boss last time, and I will not have you screwing me over on this!"

"But we're supposed to be teammates! Boss said we needed to work together! You can't just leave me behind, M-"

"Shush! I'm not saying I'm leaving you behind, see, I'm just threatening you with what will happen if you mess up."

"Oooohh. Well, why didn't you say so?! Threats are perfectly fine!"

I involuntarily gasped. They were the wolf and the chicken from the train! I realized they might've been able to hear me and ran as quickly as I could. I could hear footsteps behind me on the cobblestone, meaning they must've been following me. I kept running.

Amazingly, I had somehow managed to gather all my 10,000 bells the night before. I'd kept collecting fish and bugs even after Crimson and Sharon had decided to call it a night, and managed to get to 10,000 just before Nook's closed for the night. Somehow, I woke up to find that they'd built the house around me, overnight no less. I think Nook might be a witch or something.

That aside, I dug all my leaf furniture out of my duffel bag and set about furnishing the small room that made up my new house. Bed in the corner, closet next to it, lantern on the wall, computer in the other corner… it was finally starting to feel like a home.

Before I got much further, however, I heard a knock at the door. I opened it to find Sharon standing outside, looking panicked. Without a word, I stepped inside to let her in.

"Close the door, too!" she cried. I did, and locked it for good measure.

I made a couple of mugs of tea at the small kitchen against the rightmost wall, and carried them to the table in the middle of the room. I sat in one of the few chairs sitting around it, gesturing to the adjacent chair. Sharon sat down in it, still looking nervously over at the door. "What's wrong?" I asked.

"You remember that wolf and chicken who put the bomb on the train before?" she asked.

"No way… they didn't follow us here, did they?" I said, taken aback. "Actually, I guess they did say 'this won't be the last of us.' I don't really know why I'm surprised."

"I heard them outside my tent, and I'm pretty sure they noticed me," she explained.

"Really? What were they saying?" I said, leaning in further in interest.

"Oh, well I don't think I retained much, since I was so surprised… but they did mention a 'Boss.'"

"Ohoho, so that means there's someone behind them?" I said, bringing my hand up to my chin to laugh like an annoying anime girl.

"I should assume so," she said. "The question is, what's that boss' goal?"

I traced my finger on the rim of my mug thoughtfully. "...World domination."

"Ah, of course, why didn't I think of that sooner," she snorted. "Well, whatever it is, it can't be good."

"I mean, not necessarily," I muttered. Sharon looked at me quizzically, so I decided to explain. "Their goal, I mean. It's not necessarily bad. Lots of people try to further their good goals through bad or morally gray means, which, in a story, is what we call an 'anti-hero.' You know the phrase 'the end justifies the means?'" I paused to take a sip of my tea. "So, like, maybe they really want world peace and are trying to accomplish it by…" -I chuckled to myself- "...planting bombs on trains."

"But that doesn't make any sense," she said.

"I mean, world peace doesn't make any sense," I murmured into my mug, "but still."

"So, what do you think they're actually planning?"

"Beats me. I doubt it'll end well, though. We should probably warn the others as soon as we're sure they're not still out there," I replied. She nodded in response.

4:00 PM

It was a bit late in the day when Sharon came up to our tent to tell us Ellie was holding a meeting in the town plaza.

"A meeting? What about?" I asked.

"It's kinda hard to explain without the whole story. You two go on ahead to the plaza, I have to round up everyone else," she said, shrugging. We obliged as she jogged up to Marina's house (yep, house. That was quick) right next door.

Kyle and I arrived at the plaza a few minutes later (the town was larger than most others in the area, but it was still pretty small and we were pretty close to the plaza to start with). Jack, Evy, Victoria, Mia, and Lucas were already there. And Ellie, of course. The plaza wasn't much, just a stone-paved area near the town hall with a tree in the center- barely any bigger than any of the other trees in town, really. Ellie sat casually on the tree's brick border, but her face clearly showed concern. The others were sitting or standing in the same area, with Mia and Victoria sitting on the border with Ellie. I wanted to ask what on earth had warranted this meeting, but I knew it would be best to wait until the others got there. I sat down on the tree's border next to Victoria, and Kyle sat on the other side of me.

"Do you know what this meeting could be about?" Victoria whispered to us. We both shook our heads.

"Sharon explained just about nothing to us," Kyle said.

"It really is a bit worrying, isn't it?" I remarked.

Slowly, Marina, Paranoia Leaf, Luis, Crimson, and Sharon arrived at the scene. At that point, Ellie stood up and Sharon went up to stand next to her.

"...So, like, remember the train incident?" Ellie asked, clearly not prepared for having the attention on her. "Those, uh… those guys are here. I mean, in this town. Not, like, here as in- here as in, uh, at this meeting. In the town. Somewhere. Or nearby. I dunno, they were definitely in town earlier today."

"You… you saw them here in town?" Victoria asked, startled.

"I mean, Sharon did." she gestured to the girl in question. "But then I saw them from out the window. Of my house. Since we were in my house, hiding from them."

"This is terrible!" I cried. "What are they going to do?"

"Wait, is this really all that worrying?" Crimson asked. "I mean, they really weren't threatening at all. And I mean at all."

"We have reason to suspect they're part of a larger force," Ellie said.

"By which she means, I heard them talking about a 'boss' they have," Sharon explained, seeming slightly baffled by Ellie's odd word choice.

"Huh. They seem kinda like Team Rocket grunts, don't they?" Jack said.

"Oh. They totally do, don't they?" Evy agreed. "Non-threatening, but the force behind them is potentially threatening."

"Hundred bells says the boss also has some higher-level subordinates who you also have to fight before fighting the boss," he joked.

"Listen!" Ellie cried to bring the attention back to her, then shrunk back a bit more once everyone looked back at her. "I just… wanted to warn you guys to be careful, you know? That's all."

I smiled at her. "Of course, Ellie. It would be wise to keep an eye out." I looked around at the group. "And, if need be, I'm sure the older of our group would be willing to protect the others, right?"

"Of course," Mia said.

"Huh?" Jack stuttered.

"I'm sure we can be in agreement on this," Victoria said.

"Well, good," Ellie sighed. "I'm glad to hear it. Meeting adjourned, I guess?"

A/N: Sorry this chapter was late. I'm also sorry for the Homestuck reference in the beginning author's note. I'm also sorry that I forgot Victoria's age and I can't find her character card. Really, I'm sorry for a lot of stuff this chapter.
