Sweet Bedtime Cuddles
Gabriel sat sprawled out on Sam's bed covered in a pile of candy wrappers. Netflix played on the TV, but the archangel wasn't listening to it. He was lost to all sound other than the crunch of the KitKat in his mouth. He was so far gone in his sugar buzz that he didn't even hear the door creak open.
"Gabe?" Sam called from the doorway. "Gabe where are you?" The archangel moaned, belly protesting as he slowly moved. He popped his head out of the pile of candy wrappers and forced a tired grin up at the Winchester standing at the end of the bed. Sam jumped in surprise by the archangel's entrance, almost jostling the angel in his arms. Balthazar was curled up against his chest wrapped up in a quilt they had found in the bunker's storage.
"Hey, Sam-o," Gabriel whispered so not to wake his brother.
"You ate all of this?" Sam questioned, ignoring the greeting. He dropped one hand from Balthazar's back and picked up a handful of wrappers. There were suckers, KitKats, Airheads, Butterfingers, and several other sugary cavity carriers and they were all empty wrappers. Every. Last. One. "How are you not puking or bouncing off the walls?"
"I live and breathe sugar!" Gabriel stated simply with a bright gleam in his eye. "Almost beat my record from last year!" Sam shook his head and stepped closer to the bed. He cleared off a spot and set the angel in his arms down onto the soft mattress. Balthazar whimpered in his sleep. He rolled onto his back and held his arms out in search of the hunter he'd been cuddled against. Sam chuckled softly and took Balthazar's reaching hands in his own. He stroked a thumb over the angel's small fingers before pulling back and grabbing the blankets hanging half off the bed. Balthazar sighed in his sleep as Sam covered him with the warm blankets. The hunter grinned as he watched the angel settle back into a peaceful sleep and he ran a hand through Balthazar's blond hair before pulling back fully. He looked to Gabriel and raised a brow at the angel.
"Who are you sleeping with tonight?" the hunter questioned. Gabriel stretched and nodded at Balthazar.
"You and Balthy," he hummed. Sam nodded and then waved a hand at the door.
"Go brush your teeth then. I don't want to wake up with your morning candy breath in my face." Gabriel's bottom lip stuck out.
"But toothpaste is so gross!" he whined. Sam glared at him.
"Do you want to visit the dentist again, candy man?" Gabriel's mouth slammed shut as the horrible memories of the dentist and the weird things that happened after the appointment came scurrying from the back his mind.
"Touché," he muttered to the smirking hunter before scurrying to the door.
The bathroom wasn't empty when Gabriel entered. Dean was by the bathtub scrubbing through Abaddon's red hair while Crowley drowned a rubber duck in the sudsy water. Cas sat on the counter with a tube of toothpaste in his mouth. Cas smiled on seeing his brother's reflection in the mirror.
"Gwabwel!" Cas shouted around the toothpaste in his mouth. Dean looked up on hearing his angel and smirked at the archangel padding along the tiled floor.
"Hey, Gabe," Dean greeted. "Tooth patrol banish you?" Gabriel nodded and flew up onto the high counter. He grabbed his toothbrush from the little cup next to the sink. It was the bright green one next to Balthazar's blue dinosaur brush and Cas' pink Doc McStuffins one.
Gabriel grabbed the half empty tube of toothpaste from Cas' messy fingers, earning a glare from his little brother. Gabriel just raised a brow at his little brother and squeezed a large glob of the minty slime onto the bristles of the brush.
"You know that stuff is bad for you, right?" he commented before popping the brush into his mouth. Dean's head snapped up and he turned— his eyes boring into Castiel's small frame.
"Are you eating toothpaste again?" Cas looked at him innocently.
"It's minty!"
"Go eat a peppermint patty then!"
"But Sam said no more candy after brushing," Cas defended. Dean let out an irritated moan, letting his head fall against the edge of the tub. He allowed his head to rest against the cool porcelain for one second too long though. Abaddon and Crowley slapped their hands against the water, sending a wave right at the hunter's head. It arched over him, spilling all over his head and down his shoulders and back to the floor.
"Damn it!" Dean yelped in surprise. He flew backward, landing onto his backside in a puddle of sudsy water. He shook his head and swiped a hand through his hair, but it all remained plastered to his head. Abaddon and Crowley giggled with glee as they watched the hunter and both Castiel and Gabriel found themselves hiding their smiles behind their hands and toothbrush. "Yeah, yeah," Dean grumbled. "Very funny." Crowley and Abaddon laughed harder at the hunter and turned back to drowning their ducky. Dean forced himself up from the floor and walked over to the stack of towels set on a nearby chair. He grabbed two. One was for the floor and the other for himself.
Gabriel spat toothpaste into the sink and grabbed a plastic cup from the stack next to the brushes. He turned on the tap and held the cup beneath until it was half full. He took a few sips, swooshing the water in his mouth before spitting it out again and again until his cup was empty. Finished, the archangel rinsed off his toothbrush and put it back in its spot next to Balthazar's and Cas'.
"Night!" He called, giving Castiel a quick hug.
"Night night, Gabby," Cas hummed against his brother's shoulder before pulling back. Gabriel flew from the counter, landing on the towel Dean currently had on his head in a lame attempt to dry off the soaked strands of hair plastered to his scalp.
"Night, Dean-o," Gabriel called through the towel as he hugged the Winchester's head. Dean huffed and swatted at the archangel playfully.
"Night, Gabriel. Sweet dreams."
"That's the point," Gabe hummed, winking down at the hunter before leaping off Dean's toweled head. He flew above Crowley and Abaddon, wishing them both pleasant nightmares before flying out the door and back into the hall. He didn't bump into anyone along the way, but that was only to be expected. Everyone else had gone to bed ages ago after a long night of trick-or-treating and milk shake and candy eating.
The door was open for Gabe when he made it back to Sam's room. Sam was already in bed dressed in a light grey shirt and a pair of plaid pajamas. Curled up along his side Gabriel could make out the tired body of Balthazar thanks to the light emanating from Sam's TV screen as it played The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Sam smiled as he watched Gabe fly in. He pulled back the covers on the side opposite from Balthazar. Gabe slipped in and the hunter dropped the blanket back down over him.
"Teeth brushed?" Sam questioned as Gabe cuddled up to his side.
"Uh huh," Gabe answered with a proud smile.
"Let me smell," Sam urged. Gabriel scowled and opened his mouth to protest, but Sam stopped him with a stern look. The archangel moaned and turned so his face was facing Sam's. He huffed a puff of air into the hunter's face, letting Sam smell the disgusting minty breath he now had. Sam grinned when Gabe pulled back and wrapped an arm around Gabriel, holding him close. "There. Was that so hard?"
"Yes," Gabriel muttered before closing his eyes and pulling closer to the warm hunter. Sam chuckled under his breath and looked back to the TV screen. His fingers played with Balthazar's twitching feathers as he watched Linus and his sister pick out a pumpkin on screen. Gabriel watched too until his eyes drifted to a chocolate Sam had failed to swipe off the bed. It wasn't a wrapper like what he had assumed was all that was left of his Halloween candy. It was an actual palm sized packet full of M&Ms. Gabe narrowed his eyes and looked up at Sam, finding that the hunter was too engrossed in watching the holiday commercial currently interrupting their movie. Slowly, he reached for the small packet. His finger wound around the plastic baggy and he yanked it closer to himself. Gabriel grinned devilishly and grasped the wrapper in his hands, ready to tear it open when—
"Don't even try." Sam's hand snatched out and Gabriel's hands were suddenly empty. Gabe glared at his empty hands and then the hunter now clutching the candy above his head. Gabriel whined low in his throat and flopped against the pillows.
"You're so mean, Samwich," Gabriel huffed. Sam hummed in response and tossed the pack of M&M's across the room where they landed on the floor somewhere. He looked back to the pouting angel at his side then. Sam rolled his eyes and poked at Gabriel's wings. He knew how to cheer the archangel up.
"Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew…" Gabriel's brow creased, but he refused to look at the singing Winchester. Sam just kept going though. "…cover it in chocolate and a miracle or two –"
"Stop it."
"Come on, Gabe," Sam pushed, smiling down at the grumpy angel. "Sing with me. I know you know the words."
"We'll wake Balthy."
"He's in a sugar coma," Sam reminded and well, Gabriel was out of excuses. He turned so his head was resting against Sam's side and he stared up into his hunter's eyes as he sang along to the stupid song about the candy man. Sam grinned and pulled Gabe closer so he was resting on his chest. They sang back and forth until the credits started playing on the TV screen. Their eyes began to grow heavy and their singing slowed down until the soft music turned into sleepy snores.
