Nephilim are Family Too

2:00 came and went, but Jane and Inias never left their small apartment. Jane instead ran from room to room, grabbing clothes and other necessities she needed to pack for the two of them. Jane had made up her mind when she woke up that morning that she would not go to the park with Inias to meet with the strangers from the night before. Yes, they didn't seem threatening. They could have just killed her on the spot if they wanted to, but they had instead let her go. What if it had all been an act though? Angels liked to toy with their prey just as much as demons. Who's to say that wasn't what the other night was about? What if when she stepped into that park they'd tear Inias away from her and beat them both to death? No, Jane couldn't let that happen. She wouldn't!

"Mama?" Jane turned, finding Inias standing only a few feet away from her with his stuffed teddy bear wrapped in his arms. His soft pink and white wings were ruffled and looked just as crazy as his bed head.

"Hey, honey," Jane greeted, forcing a smile and pushing back the worry building up in her chest. She bent down and held her arms open for the baby angel. Inias pattered over, swaying on his feet a little. He'd just started walking the other week and was still getting the hang of being on two feet, but he was learning quickly. Oh god. Jane swallowed hard. Inias wouldn't even be able to run away if something happened. He'd fall and they'd be on him within seconds.

With Inias in arms reach Jane pulled the little angel to her chest and kissed his cheek. Inias giggled, wings fluffing up behind him. When Jane didn't laugh with him though the little angel frowned and looked up into her eyes worriedly. He wound his fingers in Jane's long hair.

"What wrong?" he asked, tugging the strands of hair in his tiny fist gently. Jane forced a wider smile at the angel.

"You and I are going on a little adventure." She brushed her fingers gently down Inias' cheek. "Just you and me and Mr. Floppy." Inias looked down at the rabbit squished between them and then to Jane again.

"Okay," he said innocently. Jane sighed in relief when he didn't try to argue with her and carried Inias to the living room where she had their bags partially packed and ready to go. She set Inias down on her own bag. It was already packed full, but Inias' bag still needed some clothes in it yet. She got up to go to the laundry room, but froze when a knock sounded from the door to the apartment. Jane glared at the door and hurried to it. Hopefully it was her landlord. She had yet to tell him she was leaving.

She yanked the door open, eyes springing wide. Her landlord didn't stand in her doorway like she had expected. No, instead the two men and three angels from the other night stood in front of her with unreadable faces. Jane gasped and tried to slam the door shut, but Dean shoved his foot in the way, making it bounce back open again. Jane backed away from them, eyes searching for something in her living room that she could use as a weapon.

"Mama?"

"Stay where you are, Inias!" Jane shouted at the little angel that had slid off the couch and was coming towards her. Inias, for the first time in a long time, didn't listen to her. He stepped out from behind the couch so he could be seen. The five strangers turned their gaze to the little angel and Inias stared back. His eyes flicked over each and every one of them before finally landing on the one that had introduced himself as Castiel the other night. Inias fanned out his small, pink wings and fluffed them up. Castiel did the same. His slightly larger black wings shimmered into existence and repeated Inias' movements.

Jane didn't know what the little show meant between the two angels, but she watched Inias for any sign of fear on his face. What she found was the complete opposite. Inias was staring at Castiel with a look that Jane couldn't explain. She turned her gaze up to the blue eyed angel himself only to find that he was now flying at Inias full speed. Jane startled, but before she could reach Inias to protect him from the attack Castiel plowed into the smaller angel. His wings wrapped around Inias along with his arms. Inias let out a little giggle and wrapped his own wings around Castiel next.

"Hello, Inias," Castiel murmured as he grinned down at his brother. Inias grinned back, but there was worry in his gaze. Castiel tilted head in question and Inias raised a hand, pressing it to Castiel's temple.

"You all better?" Castiel's eyes went cross-eyed as he looked at the fingers on his head.

"All better," he reassured. Inias lowered his hand then and wrapped his brother into another tight hug.

"Inias used to be part of Cas' garrison," Dean stated on noticing the confusion in Jane's eyes. Jane looked to him and he smiled sadly. "Cas was in a bad place last time they saw each other. Inias stuck up for him." Jane felt pride thrum in her chest at hearing that. She wouldn't expect anything less from her little angel.

"So," she sighed, looking to Dean and the boy Castiel had named as Kevin the other night. "If Inias trusts your boy I suppose then I should to, huh?" Dean shrugged in answer.

"That's completely up to you," he stated simply. Jane huffed, shaking her head. She looked to her still open door and nodded at it.

"How'd you find me?"

"Our visions gave us images of the street you live on," Balthazar stated from where he stood between Dean and Kevin with his older brother. "We just followed those." Jane nodded and slowly eased herself onto the couch in her living room. Inias noticed her shaking hands and he pulled back from Castiel. He padded over to his mother and crawled up into her lap.

"Mama, okay?" he questioned. Jane brushed at her eyes, shaking her head slowly. Inias' wings fluffed up and he wrapped them around her as best he could. He touched her cheek, brushing back the tears that fell. "It okay. We safe. Cassie good." He grinned over his shoulder at his brother and Castiel smiled back with as much assurance as he could.

"They're really here to help us?" she asked. Inias bobbed her head and both Dean and Kevin walked closer to her. Kevin knelt before her and patted her knee gently.

"Why don't we all get to know each other a little bit?" he suggested. "Clear the air a little?" Jane bothered at her lip, but gave the boy a nod. Kevin grinned at the response and leaned back on the balls of his feet. "Okay then," he hummed. "How about we start with swapping stories? How'd you meet Inias?"

It was hard, but Jane eventually gave up the story of meeting her pink winged angel. She first found Inias' tiny, sleepy form in a wicker basket on the front step of her apartment. It was that night that she had taken him in and cared for him. It wasn't long after that that he found out she was a Nephilim and not an angel like himself. Inias didn't seem to care about that though. He didn't talk down to her or threaten to kill her. He had smiled that charming smile of his and wrapped her in a hug with his light pink wings.

Jane told the five her story and in turn they each told her theirs. Dean told her about his brother and that they were both hunters along with a grumpy old man by the name of Bobby Singer. He told her about when he first met each of the angels in the room and about his time caring for his own three baby angels. Kevin revealed that he was in fact a prophet and that he had his own baby angel at home with his mother.

"See? That wasn't so bad," Kevin hummed when he finished his story. Jane nodded in agreement and waved at the angels.

"You mention that God and a witch did this to them…" She paused. "…to us," she corrected.

"Yeah, it's kind of hard to explain. They've de-aged demons too now," Dean revealed. Jane raised a brow at that and Dean just shrugged. "Anyway, God gave us the job to make sure all the angels and demons get to good homes and are safe so that's what we've been doing." Dean looked to Kevin and the boy walked over to the doorway, grabbing a duffel bag they had left there when they first came in.

"What's that?" Jane questioned. Kevin dropped it in front of her and zipped it open. Jane's eyes widened at what waited within. There was shampoo strictly for feathers, clothes with holes in the back so wings could fit through, specials combs, and several other bits of supplies perfect for caring for a baby angel.

"This has got everything you need to make sure Inias is comfortable," Dean explained. He pulled two cards from his pocket and handed each to Jane. "The white one is my number and my brother's. The tan one is for our veterinarian friend. She has an angel too and has kind of become our own personal angel doctor. She doesn't live in the area, but she's willing to fly up if anyone needs her help."

"Thank you."

"Don't mention it."

"No," Jane said, shaking her head. "I mean it, Dean. Thank you." She combed a hand through Inias' wings. "It's been so long since I could trust anyone."

"That's what family is for," Balthazar said with a wide grin. Jane stared at the angel. Family? She never really had one before. She had always been on her own before she met Inias and now she was suddenly part of a family? Jane suddenly felt overwhelmed. Inias noticed and cuddled close to her, wings brushing up her arm in a comforting manner. The quiet moment was ruined right away though thanks to the growl of Dean's stomach. He patted his belly lightly and looked to the clock on the wall.

"Who's up for burgers?" he questioned. The angels and Kevin all raised their hands, cheering in unison. Dean grinned and looked to Jane and she nodded slowly. She hadn't eaten all day. She'd been too worried about leaving to even think about food. Dean clapped his hands together then and yanked out his car keys. "I'll get us some grub then," he announced. "I'll make sure to get two family packs –one for me and one for the rest of you." Everyone laughed and Dean disappeared out of the apartment. Jane found herself laughing along with her newly found family. She had never felt so happy in her life. Her home was now full of people that called her family and she was about to have an actual family dinner for the first time in years. She was safe and happy. What more could she ask for?
