Hey, guys! I have finally returned from my trip to Chicago and have survived the perilous clutches of finals. Hope you all enjoy the new chapter!
Spirits of Heaven
Ash and Jo sat face to face. They were in the Roadhouse as usual. Ash sat on a stool while Jo stood across from him behind the bar. They stared right into each other's eyes, never blinking or speaking a word.
"You two are giving me the creeps," Ellen commented as she watched the two from her own stool. When neither of them acknowledge her Ellen had enough. She picked up one of the shots set out in front of her and splashed it over Jo's head.
"Mom!"
Ellen grabbed another shot then, splashing it at Ash next.
"Whoa! Whoa!" Ash shouted, patting at his hair. "Watch the mullet."
"I'll watch anything as long as it's not you two doing another staring contest," Ellen huffed, pouring herself two shots to make up for the ones she'd dumped on Ash and Jo.
"What else are we supposed to do, Mom?" Jo questioned. "We're bored to death. With all the angels gone it's been nothing but quiet up here."
"We could go out for a walk?" Ash suggested while stealing one of Ellen's shots and downing it in one go. "Like you said –the angels are gone so there's no one to scold us for snooping." Jo and Ellen shared a long look, contemplating over the plan silently. They'd been stuck up in Heaven for God knows how long. It was about time they got the full tour without worrying about the God squad.
The two women pushed away from the bar's counter and made their way to the front doors of the Roadhouse. Ash followed them, grabbing a beer for the road.
Ellen pushed the door open and the three stepped into a white hallway with several doors with names and numbers etched on them. They looked around, eyes drinking in the unending hallway that led to other heavens and places only angels were allowed.
Ash took the lead and led the way down the halls of Heaven, taking a left down the white hallway. He stayed to the left when turns came up, stopping at doors that caught his attention. They stopped at Elvis' door, Abe Lincoln's (he was a partier), and Robin William's heaven before stopping in front of a door unlike the others they had previously passed. Instead of having a name and number on it there was only one word: Theater.
Ash pushed the door open and stepped inside. Ellen and Jo followed, eyes widening when they got a look inside. None of them had seen such a big theater before in their lives. A huge screen stretched out along the wall. Thousands of seats lined the room in front of it. Each was made of a soft, red material that felt like a cloud when sat on. A remote rested on a seat in the front and both Jo and Ash charged for it. Ellen grabbed it before them and pressed a green button. The screen flickered on and Earth appeared on the screen. The blue ball spun slowly in the blackness of space and the three ghosts marveled at its magnificence. Ellen hit a new button after a moment of ogling at planet Earth and the screen zoomed up on a portion of the planet. They were no longer looking at a giant blue ball hovering in space. Now they were watching a snake resting against a warm stone in the middle of a desert. Ellen hit the button she'd pressed before again and the channel changed, this time picking up the royal family lounging around in Buckingham Palace.
"This…" Ash began, holding up his hands. "…is the best room ever." He snatched the remote from Ellen's grip and flipped the channels again. "Think there's a porn channel?" He flipped quickly through the channels, stopping when something suddenly caught his eye.
Ash lowered the remote and stared at the screen with wide eyes along with Jo and Ellen. It wasn't porn Ash had found. No, the screen had popped up with something else, or more correctly, someone else.
The screen showed a mossy patch in the middle of a thick forest. Dean, Sam, and Bobby were sprawled out on their backs in the middle of the patch, staring up at the canopy of trees above. Between them sat three tiny children. Dean and Sam had both changed since the last time they were all together. Sam's hair was longer and his bangs were gone. He was much more built too and the shirt he was wearing did nothing to hide it. Dean had a bit more stumble on his face and looked like he had put on a little more weight in the belly area. The diner pie and burgers were probably to blame.
"Hey, isn't that Castiel's trench?" Jo questioned suddenly, pointing at a dark haired, blue eyed boy sitting next to Dean. Ellen squinted at the child.
"It sure does look like it," she muttered. The little blue eyed boy on the screen turned to Dean, his mouth moving. "Is there a volume for this thing?" Ellen questioned. Ash glanced down at the remote in his hand and hit a few buttons, un-muting the screen after the fourth try.
"But squirrels are –"
"Cas, I'm still not over the whole bee incident yet. You are not keeping a squirrel," Dean scolded.
"Cas?!" Ash, Ellen, and Jo yelped is shock. They stared at the small angel with wide eyes The kid was a dead ringer for Castiel. He had dark brown hair that looked like it hadn't been combed in forever and he had the same wide blue eyes they remembered the angel having too. If it really was Cas though why was he the size of a five year old?
"Just be glad he's not asking for a snake, boy," Bobby muttered, earning the three ghosts' attention again. Bobby had changed too since the last time the three saw him. He'd aged and as the three stared they wondered how much time had passed for the old man and the two brothers since they were all together. Bobby's hair was whiter now with a few specks of grey here and there. Like Dean, he'd put on a few more pounds too.
"Oh, God, don't remind me," Dean moaned. He covered his eyes with his arm and little Cas and the two other children laughed at him.
"What's the matter?" a boy with long blond hair teased. "Is wittle bitty Dean-O scared of a wittle snake?" That earned him a glare from the Winchester and in seconds Dean was lunging from his spot on the mossy ground and hurtling right for the little boy. They boy just smirked and a pair of gorgeous golden wings glittered into existence between his shoulder blades. He flapped them a few times, darting out of the way of Dean's attack while Ellen, Ash, and Jo stared on with their mouths hanging to the floor in both shock and awe.
"Damn it, Gabriel!" Dean called out. "That's cheating!"
"Gabriel?" Ash whispered under his breath. He thought back to the endless piles of research he's done in the past and the names shouted through angel radio. He stared at Gabriel's golden wings with brows knit together in thought. "Isn't…isn't Gabriel the name of one of the archangels?" Jo and Ellen stared at him and then the pint sized angel currently doing summersaults above Dean's head.
"You don't think…" Jo began, but then she stopped herself. "What are they doing with the freaking archangel Gabriel?"
"And why is he pint sized like Cas?" Ash added.
"And who's the other angel?" Ellen joined in squinting at the boy now sitting up and watching Gabriel fly through the sky. He had blond hair like Gabriel, but it was cut shorter and styled. He wore a black V-neck under a warm looking red jacket. His eyes were a bright blue, but they were far brighter than Cas' deep blue ones.
"Dean, give it up," Sam sighed while closing his eyes in attempt to block out the ruckus his brother and Gabriel were making.
Dean ignored his brother and the hunter jumped upward, fingers just brushing the bottoms of Gabriel's shoes. The angel was still too high up for him to reach though.
"Come on, Dean, put some oomph into it!" the mystery angel called. He had made his way over to Sam now and was braiding the hunter's hair. Dean jumped again, but this time he hit his mark. His finger wrapped around Gabriel's ankle and the angel squealed as Dean yanked him from the air.
"Ha!" Dean laughed in triumph. He tickled Gabriel's sides and the angel broke into a fit of giggles. Dean plopped down on the mossy ground again, fingers still digging into Gabriel's sides and brushing over his neck. Castiel stood after a few minutes of just watching and from between his shoulder blades black wings sprouted.
"Woah!" Ash yelped. "He can do that?" Ellen and Jo both shrugged in answer and watched as a now winged Castiel flew to Dean and Gabriel. The angel joined in, aiding Dean in tickling Gabriel until tears ran down the archangel's pink cheeks. The ruckus was enough for Sam to pop his eyes open again and the hunter chuckled at the sight of the two angels and his brother. Bobby pushed himself over to the younger Winchester. He looked around at the forest surrounding them and let out a long sigh.
"I'm sure gonna miss it here," Bobby sighed. Sam's eyes flicked away from his brother and to the old man next to him.
"Me too," he sighed sadly. "But the renovations are going well and we need to be closer to home now. I'm going to miss all this space though. Jody's place is good and all, but…it's small."
"Renovations?" Ellen questioned. "What are they talking about?"
"Maybe they have a house now?" Jo suggested. "Or maybe they're building one?" The three looked back to the screen, wondering if they'd find out by listening. Sadly, they didn't.
"Sam, stop moving your head!" the angel braiding Sam's hair scolded as the braid he was working on untangled. Sam rolled his eyes upward to look at the angel and reached out a giant hand, patting the angel on the head.
"Sorry, Balth—"
"Dwean! Swam! Bwobby!" three little voices called from the distance. The boys all stopped in what they were doing and turned their heads. The TV screen followed their movement and focused on three figures racing out of the brush nearby. One of the little figures was another angel by the look of her wings. She had them flared out wide so the wind made the feather fluff up. Running ahead was a boy and girl. The girl had long red hair and clothes that said, 'Daddy's little devil'. The boy next to her had dark strands of hair atop his head and was wearing identical clothes, but in a black instead of a light purple.
"What's up, kiddos?" Bobby called out. He pushed himself up onto his feet and caught the three in his arms.
"Suppa ready," the little angel said with a big smile. Bobby grinned right back and looked over his shoulder at the others.
"Supper's ready!"
Jo, Ellen, and Ash couldn't hold back their laughter when Sam and Dean shot up from the ground and barreled into the brush to wherever supper was being served.
"Last one there gets crumbs!" Dean shouted. Their angels— Castiel, Gabriel, and Balthazar— opened their wings and flew into the air, swooping through the canopy of trees above as they followed the hunters. Bobby just chuckled and carried the three kids that had just appeared through the brush after the others. The screen went black then and Ellen, Jo, and Ash stared at it, not knowing what to think.
"Pint sized angels, huh?" Jo hummed after a few seconds of silence. "Think that's what was going on a while back?"
"Could be," Ash decided. A few years back when he'd been looking through angel radio out of boredom it had blown up with screaming and yelling. It had only lasted a second though and suddenly everything had gone quiet. He had gone out to check what was happening then, discovering that the angels had all vanished. It had been a mystery that puzzled him and the others greatly, but now it seemed that they were finally getting their answers.
"They look happy at least," Ellen sighed while smiling up at the screen. "Never thought I'd live to see the day."
"Uh…technically you didn't," Ash pointed out. Ellen slapped him over the head playfully.
"You know what I meant." Ellen plucked the remote from Ash's hands then and pointed it at the screen. "Let's see what else we can get on this thing. Any requests?"
Ash and Jo plopped down into the cloud-soft seats of the second row and propped their feet up on the first row in front of them.
"Take it away, Ellen!" Ash called. He looked around the theater then. "Hey, think there's any popcorn around here?"
"Or maybe some crappy movie theater soda?" Jo added.
"Yuck," Ash gagged. He held up the beer he'd brought along and shook it a little. "No flat soda for me, thank you. I'm covered." Jo eyed the beer and swiped it from Ash's hands. Ash reached for it, but Jo already had it cracked open and half gulped down before he could even think about taking it back. Ellen rolled her eyes at the two and looked to the wide screen in front of her. She pressed a random button and the screen lit up, taking the three off to another adventure via the heavenly version of cable TV.
Thanks, GingerTyPerior for the request!
