Snow Day

Bobby and Benny stomped through the woods behind the bunker, snowshoes the only thing keeping them from sinking into the knee deep snow. They'd gotten quite the pile of snow thanks to the big snow storm that hit during the night. It had been a pretty wild storm. It shook the trees and the wind was loud enough for them to hear deep within the bunker. They had all been worried that they'd wake up the next morning to a snow blocked door, but instead they awoke to a winter wonderland. The trees were dusted lightly with snow, making them look like something out of a movie. The ground glistened as the morning sun's rays reflected against the snow and the wind whispered softly through the trees, tipping snow from the treetops.

It was so beautiful out it'd be a shame to waste the day away inside the bunker and with that thought in mind, Benny and Bobby went out on a mission to enjoy the weather.

Their mission began with a little hike through the bunker halls in search of one of the many storage rooms. They found the one they were searching for after a few wrong turns and dug through a stack of boxes left by those long gone. It took a while, but after some digging the hunter and vampire found two pairs of snowshoes— just what they needed to start their day. With snowshoes on, Benny and Bobby set out to enjoy the powdery fluff left over. They didn't go alone of course. Running ahead of them in regular snow boots ran Gabriel, Castiel, and Balthazar. The three were the only ones that wanted to play in the snow. Rachel, Crowley, and Abaddon all voted to stay inside and enjoy the comfort of Sam's warm bed and Netflix. That was just fine with Bobby and Benny though. Three out of the six meant less trouble, but even with only three kids to watch over it was still a challenge for the hunter and vampire.

"Point!" Gabriel shouted, while hitting both of his brothers in the face with two giant snow balls. Castiel and Balthazar fell onto their backsides and Gabriel broke into a fit of laughter before disappearing behind a large tree. The archangel quickly started on a new set of snowballs. Balthazar and Castiel, with fire in their eyes, pushed themselves back up and began to arm themselves with their own snowy weapons until the two of them each had ten snowballs ready to go. Benny and Bobby watched as the two spread their wings and shot up into the tree line where Gabriel wouldn't see them. Gabriel came out from his hiding spot minutes later, confusion written all over his face. He looked around for his brothers, snowballs in hand. Seconds ticked by and suddenly, snowballs plummeted from above, pelting Gabriel from the right and the left. Gabriel yelped in surprise and dived for cover, dropping his snowballs in the process. He couldn't escape his brothers though. They were hitting him at all angles, making it impossible for the archangel to break free of them.

"Alright! Alright!" Gabriel sputtered. "Mercy!"

The firing of snow slowly came to a stop then and Castiel and Balthazar both flew back to the snow covered ground. They held out their gloved hands, offering to help their now snow-soaked big brother get onto his feet. Gabriel took their hands, but instead of using them to pull himself up he yanked them both into the snow beside them.

"Gabby!" Castiel cried as Gabriel rolled on top of him, pinning the smaller angel into the snow. With his body pinning Castiel down, Gabriel's wings draped over Balthazar and effectively pinned him down into the snow as well.

"Gabe, you cheater!" Balthazar sputtered, voice muffled from snow he was currently face-down in. Gabriel just chuckled, enjoying the fact that he outsmarted his little brothers. When he caught Benny and Bobby watching, Gabriel gave them a toothy grin and a wink. Bobby rolled his eyes at the angel and Benny just laughed.

"Well," Benny chuckled. "I'd say this fight ends in a draw, don't you think?" He held up two fingers on each of his two hands. Two points for team Calthazar and two points for team Gabriel."

"Cathazar?" Castiel questioned, head tipping to the side as he stared in confusion at the vampire.

"I heard Charlie and Lila using it when they were reading in the library a few nights ago," Benny revealed with a shrug and a smirk. "I thought it was kind of cute."

"Glad we're amusing to you," Balthazar sputtered, lifting his head from the snow he was pinned against. His eyes rolled upward to glare up at his big brother. He wiggled a hand free and dug his fingers into Gabriel's wing. Gabriel squealed and rolled off of his brothers, freeing them and becoming the new angel to get shoved into the snow.

"Calthazar three…" began Balthazar as he pounced on top of Gabriel.

"Gabby two," Castiel finished, joining his brother. He sprawled out over Gabriel's wings, effectively pinning them down without crushing them.

Bobby rolled his eyes as he watched the angels roll around in the snow before starting to move again. He hobbled forward in his big snow shoes, climbing through the snow towards the patch of thick brush only a few feet away from where they stood. Benny managed to pull the angels off of each other after a minute or two and carefully picked up into a choppy run to catch up with the old hunter. When he came close, Bobby turned and pressed a finger to his lips before pointing out into the brush. Benny followed Bobby's fingers and squinted through the mess of brown twigs and tall grass. At first, he didn't see anything, but after a second or two Benny's keen eyes caught the twitch of a tail and the flick of large ears. A few feet away stood a deer with a large rack of eight points. He was staring right at them, large eyes looking right at them as he tried to decide whether to stay or flee.

"Angels," Benny whispered. "Come here." Benny waved them over and the angels slowly crept nearer until they could see the buck too.

"Kinda makes you hungry for venison, doesn't it?"

"Bobby," Benny scolded fondly. The vampire looked to the angels. "Hey, when you guys go to Jody's you should check out the woods she lives by and see if she has any deer friends hanging around too."

The three perked up at the suggestion and whispered excitedly back and forth about showing little Lucifer a deer. Benny watched them, mind wondering as he did. It was only a few days ago that Dean and Sam had gotten the call from the contractor about their house. It was almost done and the guys had to move closer in order to help out with the last minute touches and paperwork. In a week or two the two hunters would be leaving with Bobby, Castiel, Gabriel, and Balthazar for Minnesota to live with Samandriel, Amy, Kieren, and Simon. First, they were going to drop by Jody's on the way just to hang out and rest up before heading back onto the road for the last strip of their drive. Benny was going to miss them all, but Crowley and Abaddon had both decided to stay at the Bunker and Kevin had revealed that he was going to stay behind too for a little bit and then go visit his mother and Naomi until the house was up and ready ago. Then there was Charlie and Lila. Both girls were planning to head back to their home too soon, but they still had some work to do on the supercomputer and the rest of the technology hiding deep within the bunker. In other words, the bunker wasn't going to be as empty feeling once they left like Benny and Kali had originally feared with just the two of them and Rachel.

"Benny?" Bobby called suddenly. "Benny, you with us?"

Benny snapped out of his thoughts about the upcoming move and focused on the old hunter currently nudging him.

"You got your phone?"

"Huh? My what—"

"Your phone," Bobby whispered, nodding at where the buck still stood. "We need your camera." Benny followed Bobby's gaze back to the buck, eyes bulging at the sight of all three angels gently stroking the now calm creature. Benny swore softly under his breath and fumbled with cold fingers for his phone. He held it up, quickly switching to the camera before taking over a dozen photos of the buck nuzzling the angels' faces with his nose.

By the time the deer finally had enough and started on his way again it was noon and everyone was cold and hungry. Castiel shivered where he stood, holding up his arms to Bobby, pleading to be carried.

"My feet are cold," he whined and Bobby bent down, picking the shivering angel up.

"Okay, kiddo," Bobby reassured while tucking Cas into his coat. "Let's go see if the idgits back at the bunker made us some hot chocolate, yeah?"

"They better have," Balthazar huffed.

"Yeah, and if they didn't…" Gabriel smirked evilly and picked up a clump of snow. "They're going to regret it."

Benny picked Gabriel and Balthazar up, tucking the two soaked angels into his own coat. He tromped behind Bobby, snow crunching loudly beneath his feet. Gabriel and Balthazar snuggled close to him and burrowed deep within his jacket like little kangaroos in their mother's pouch. Benny smirked and rubbed a hand along his jacket where the angels were under until he heard the soft sound of snoring coming from inside his jacket. Benny smirked and glanced over and Bobby, finding that Castiel's head was the only thing visible thanks to Bobby's jacket and he was out just like his brothers. Benny sighed and looked out over the snowy forest they walked through, taking it all in.

"It's beautiful," he said after a moment.

"Yeah," he heard Bobby mutter a second later. "Yeah, it is."
