Glitter and Eggs
It was a chilly Sunday morning and Alex was sprawled out on the couch, her feet wrapped in a thick quilt and her head propped up by a couch pillow. She could hear Jody in the kitchen nearby, clambering around with Lucifer and Custos as she cleaned up the mess Alex and Lucifer had both made during breakfast earlier.
A truck rumbled in the driveway outside and before Alex could even think about sitting up and going to the front door, Jody, Custos and Lucifer were way ahead of her and doing just that. Alex watched as they disappeared behind the door and listened as Custos barked and baby angel's squealed loudly outside. Alex grinned to herself. It had been a while since the angels had seen Custos. The puppy had stayed behind when the Winchesters left for the bunker so Lucifer wouldn't feel too lonely after having his brothers leave.
"Hey, Jody," Bobby's voice mumbled from the doorway as Jody led the old hunter into the house.
"Hey," Alex heard Jody greet back. "Thanks for coming over. I'd spend my vacation with Alex and Lucifer, but Alex told me I need to get out of the house."
"Boys said the same thing about me," Bobby huffed. Jody laughed and stepped into the living room with Bobby and little Rachel. Alex's hand slowly started to search for the remote that had fallen to the floor. On finding it she held it up, pointing it at the TV screen currently playing How to Get Away with Murder.
"The moral of this show should be keeping it in your pants," Alex huffed, smacking pause just as two characters were about to go at it. She glanced up at Jody and gave her a wink. "Don't worry; I'll finish the rest of the show without you while you two hop to the Tunnel of Love or wherever old people like you go for dates." Jody rolled her eyes, swatting Alex playfully before plopping Lucifer into the teen's arms. With her hands free, Jody then pointed a finger at the paused TV screen.
"That stays paused until I get home." Alex smirked and nodded, but Jody's eyes just turned more serious. "You sure you'll be okay with watching the kids on your own? I can call the guys to come down and help?" Alex shook her head.
"I've got this, Jody," Alex reassured. "Besides, Dean and Sam are busy packing up their stuff." She held her arms open towards Bobby then and the old hunter dropped a shy Rachel into the teen's arms. Alex set Rachel down in her lap next to Lucifer, eyes turning playful when she looked back up at Jody and Bobby. "We'll throw a party, I'll invite all the kids from school, and the angels can magic up some booze for us."
"That's my girl," Jody sighed. She clapped Bobby on the shoulder. "Come on. Let's go before she changes her mind." Bobby chuckled under his breath and lifted his hand in a short wave to Alex before following Jody back outside. Alex waved at them as they both disappeared and then turned her gaze to the two angels curled up with her one the couch.
"Hey, Rachel," she greeted. "I haven't seen you since Christmas." Rachel gave her a small, shy smile and Alex stroked a hand through her wings gently. "Where are your brothers?" Rachel glanced over her shoulder at the doorway.
"They –"
The door slammed open and a blur of gold, black, and silver flashed through the living room as Gabriel, Castiel, Custos, and Balthazar flew in. Their faces were flushed red from laughing and slobber drenched their cheeks and clothing.
"Hey, kiddos," Alex called, gaining the hellhound and angels' attention. The four stared at her with big, toothy smiles.
"Hi, Alex," they greeted her. Gabriel and Balthazar looked at the TV while Cas gave Custos a belly rub and they both arched a brow at Alex over their shoulders.
"This is how you're spending your Saturday?" Balthazar questioned.
"Hey, it's a good show," Alex defended. She sat up a little on the couch. "Why, you have something you want to do?" Castiel perked up then and the little angel rushed over to Alex, Custos hot on his heels.
"Can we make Easter eggs?" he asked. Lucifer and Rachel's wings fluffed up and the two looked up at Alex with big, pleading blue eyes.
"Uh…Cas, Easter is a while away from now."
"I know," Cas said. "We gotta practice though." His eyes somehow managed to grow larger then and Alex felt like she was getting pulled right in. "Please, Alex?"
"Well…" Alex let out a sigh and smiled at the angel. "I can't say no to all these big puppy eyes now can I?" She pushed herself up off the couch then and walked over to the cabinet on the other side of the living room where all Lucifer's art supplies were stashed. She pulled out a few crayons, glue, and glitter before heading to the kitchen. She set everything down on the dining table and looked to the angels that had followed her. "Knock yourselves out," she told them before walking to the fridge for the carton of eggs waiting inside. She set those down on the table and everything after that was a blur of color and glitter. Everyone made an egg–even Alex. Some eggs were simple with pictures scrawled on them in crayon and others were caked in glitter and glue.
Alex was just helping Rachel color her egg for Benny and Kali when the rumbling of an Impala reached her ears. Heads shot up at the sound and Alex jumped to her feet, hurrying to the door. She looked through the window, smiling as Sam and Dean got out of Baby with several duffle bags swung over their shoulders. Alex pushed the door open, giving a smile to the two hunters as they hurried to the door.
"Hey, Alex," Sam greeted first. "How're the angels."
"Hi, Sam. They're good."
"Really? From the looks of it you got hit by one of Gabriel's glitter bombs," Dean stated, nodding at the amount of glitter and glue covering Alex's shirt and pants.
"Oh," Alex started, looking down at herself. "Yeah, that's what I get for letting them make Easter eggs." Alex shrugged then and stepped to the side to let the two hunters in. Sam and Dean both walked past her, surprisingly not commenting on the fact that Easter wasn't even close to coming yet. They dropped their duffels onto the floor of the living room and then followed Alex into the kitchen where the angels were working hard.
"Well, you guys are busy," Dean laughed. He walked over and knelt down by the angels. Sam followed and Gabriel held up an egg covered in glitter and crayon.
"Made this for you," Gabriel revealed. Sam's eyes brightened at the gesture and took the egg. He turned it over in his palm, smiling at the picture of him and Gabe scribbled on the egg in yellow and orange crayon.
"Well?" Balthazar hummed with anticipation. "Are you going try it?" Alex frowned in confusion, missing what the angel meant. She glanced at Sam, eyes bulging when it finally hit her.
"Sam, don't—"
CRACK!
Egg drooled past Sam's lips not long after the hunter took a large bite of Gabe's Easter egg. It pooled down his chin and dribbled onto his plaid shirt. The angels each broke into laughter while Dean and Alex stared between them and Sam in shock.
"Gotcha!" Rachel and Lucifer cackled in unison, pointing at Sam with tiny fingers. Dean glanced at Alex.
"Uh…I take it you didn't boil these before giving them to them, huh?"
"No duh, Dean!" Sam spat while wiping furiously at his mouth.
"I…uh…no?" Alex looked to Gabriel. "What the hell, Gabe?" The archangel only smiled and gave her a sly wink.
"Trickster," he snickered.
"Oh, Gaaabriel," Sam sing-songed suddenly. The hunter walked over to Gabe and grabbed him before he had the chance to get away. With his free hand he waved at the egg covering his face. "You think this is funny, huh?" he questioned. Shrugged, but nodded, still cackling with laughter. "Well, let's see how you like it!" Sam pressed a kiss to Gabriel's cheek then, smearing the gooey egg all over the archangel's face. Gabriel squealed and pushed at Sam in attempt to get away, but it was no use. Sam pulled up the archangel's t-shirt and blew raspberries against his tummy until Gabriel's face turned red from laughter.
Alex laughed along as she watched, stopping when Lucifer suddenly flew into her arms. She looked down at the little angel and he held up an egg covered in pink and purple polka-dots.
"Oh, no," Alex told him. "I'm not going to fall for that." Lucifer shook his head.
"No, it for Jody," Luci explained, and evil smile poking at the corners of his mouth. Alex chuckled.
"You naughty little angel," she cooed, pressing a kiss to her brother's cheek. Lucifer giggled in her arms and Alex took the egg he'd showed her. She turned it in her hand, inspecting the innocent little egg that was actually a prank waiting to go off.
"We're home!" Jody's voice boomed as she and Bobby entered the house hours later. Night had fallen and the moon hung high in the sky. Sam, Dean, Alex, Custos, and the angels were all curled up on the couch watching How to Get Away With Murder. Jody glared at the TV screen as she stepped into the living room with Bobby right behind her.
"What's this?"
"Just the best show ever," Dean said with a smirk as he took a sip from his beer.
"Don't worry, Jody. I started over."
Jody let out a sigh of relief. "Good," Jody sighed with relief. She looked to the angels curled up between Dean and a napping Custos then. "Now, where are my hugs?" she asked the angels. The five angels grinned up at her and pushed themselves off the couch. They hurried to Jody and she dipped down so she could wrap her arms around them. "Was your babysitter nice to you?" she asked, smirking over at Alex. The angels each nodded and Lucifer took the moment to hold up the egg he had made. Jody's eyes widened and she took it from him carefully. "An Easter egg?"
"They wanted to be prepared for when the holiday finally showed up," Alex revealed. Jody laughed and Lucifer watched her expectantly with everyone else in the room.
"You going to try it?" Lucifer asked. Jody raised a brow at him and looked at the egg again, rolling it in her palm.
"Course," she said after a moment. "But…" she waved at Bobby and the old hunter stepped out from behind her, revealing a big chocolate box. "Bobby and I picked up a little something at this awesome place we stopped by on the road." Bobby set the box down on the floor then and the angels crowded around it with hunger in their eyes. They looked to Jody expectantly and the sheriff nodded at them, giving them the go ahead. Lucifer grabbed at the red ribbon holding the box shut and yanked it off. With the ribbon gone, he popped the lid off and a startled cry broke past the lips of each of the angels as glitter shot from the box and into their faces. In seconds the angels were covered in glitter of all colors, making it look like they'd had an accident at an arts and crafts store.
"Gotcha!" Jody and Bobby shouted, the two giving each other a high five as they laughed. The angels stared at them in confusion and surprised and then down at the box that held nothing but glitter.
"We know better by now than to leave all of you kids on your own and not expect some kind of prank," Bobby told them. "We decided to get you first."
"We weren't gonna pull a prank," Balthazar lied.
"Oh, really," Jody huffed. She held up the Easter egg Lucifer had given her. "I cook, kids. I know the difference between a raw egg and a hard boiled one."
"Maybe you should teach Sam," Dean teased, getting a smack in the head by his brother shortly after. Jody ignored them and handed the egg back to Lucifer. She looked to Alex then.
"Bobby and I are beat. I think we're going to bed early tonight. Have fun cleaning up all the glitter!" Jody hurried out of the living room then, dragging Bobby right behind her. Alex yelled after her, but it was too late. Jody and Bobby were gone and Alex was stuck with five glitter covered angels.
