Plans
Dean sat hunched over the kitchen table with Sam, papers and blueprints thrown out around them. Sitting in the center of the table was Dean's phone. It was currently on speaker phone and Sam and Dean were both busy chatting over plans with a construction worker on the other end about paint colors and lights.
"Okay so for the kitchen you said you wanted dark wood cabinets, white walls, and marble counters?"
"Yep," Dean answered, checking off the items listed in his notebook as the contractor went through them.
"Okay, how about the bedrooms?"
"For the angels—"
"Fire the cannons!" Gabriel's voice boomed from Lucifer's bedroom.
"Blast ye pirate!" Balthazar shouted seconds later.
"What's that?"
"Sorry," Sam sighed. "Kids are getting loud again." Sam made to get out of his chair then, but Dean beat him to it.
"I got it this time, Sammy. You go over the bedroom plans."
"Okay, do you want us to wait for you when we get to living room plans?"
"Nah, you two go ahead. I might be a while." He hurried out of the living room then, walking past the living room where Jody, Alex, and Lucifer were watching Princess Sophia. He gave them a small smile as he passed by and hurried into Lucifer's bedroom. A pillow nearly hit him in the face when he entered. Dean caught it, glaring over the pillow at the three angels and puppy bouncing up and down on Lucifer's bed.
By the look of the two pillow cannons and the bed shaped ship, the angels obviously used their grace to conjure up their pirate universe.
"Fire!" Gabriel shouted from behind one of the pillow cannons. Cas pulled the little string on the cannon and two giant pillows flew into the air, crashing into Balthazar. Balthazar gasped as the wind was knocked out of him and collapsed onto the pile of pillows littering the floor. Custos jumped off the bed and tackled the Balthazar, licking playfully at the angel's bare feet. Balthazar squealed, wiggling beneath Custos in attempt to escape. He clicked his fingers together and a white flag appeared in his hands. He waved it feverishly, pleading surrender.
"What's going on in here?" Dean called at last. The angels froze and Dean raised a brow at them as he walked further into the room. With their concentration now off their game, the room began to warp, transforming back into a regular bedroom.
"What's up, Dean-O?" Gabriel questioned. He eyed Dean up and down carefully, frowning as he did so. "Are you sick?"
"What?"
"You've got bags under your eyes and…" Gabe pointed at Dean's hair. "It looks like a hedgehog is living on your head." Dean grumbled and ran a hand through his messed up hair, trying in vain to tame it.
"No, I'm not sick. I was just talking to the guy working on our house," he said before easing down onto the angels' bed. Custos climbed off of Balthazar as he did and pattered across the bed sheets to plop his head down on Dean's thigh. Dean scratched at the puppy's ears and rolled his shoulders, cringing as they popped loudly. "Sam and I have been going over how we want the rooms done all night," he revealed. The angels perked up.
"Rooms?" Castiel questioned. "Like our bedroom?" Dean smiled and nodded.
"Yep, everyone is going to have their own room. Well…" Dean stopped himself. "Not everyone. You three are going to share a room, but we're going to have a lot more guest rooms for when the family stops by for holidays and all that." Balthazar eyes grew large.
"We're going to live in a mansion then?" Dean laughed.
"Well, no. Fake credit cards are only going to get us so much, but the house is going to be way bigger than it was."
"Still sounds like a mansion to me," Balthazar hummed. "There's no way we're going to fit our family into anything but a mansion!" Dean shook his head and fell back onto his back, sprawling out across the bed. He glanced at the clock on the nightstand.
"You three should get ready for bed. We're heading back home tomorrow afternoon to help finish up the house."
"But I don't want to leave," Castiel whined plopping down on Dean's chest. Dean chuckled and stroked through the angel's hair.
"You don't want to see the cool bedroom Sam and I planned out for you guys?" Castiel tilted his head in thought before shaking his head.
"That's what I thought." He pulled Cas farther up his chest then and pressed his forehead against Cas'. "We'll visit Jody and the gang again, Cas. Don't worry about it." He turned his head to the side, looking to Balthazar and Gabriel next. "What about the rest of you?" he asked.
"As long as I get to pick the music on the way there," Gabriel said with a wide grin.
"Driver picks the music," Dean reminded.
"Then I guess I'm driving," Gabriel sassed. Dean rolled his eyes and looked to Custos.
"How about you?" Custos barked and nuzzled at Dean's thigh, tail wagging happily.
"Okay then. It's settled."
"What's our room going to be like?" Balthazar asked.
"It's a surprise," Dean teased before closing his eyes. "Speaking of, I should probably get back to Sam and the contractor. Sam's probably telling the guy to paint the bathrooms some stupid color or something."
"Oh! Can we have a purple bathroom?"
"Purple?"
"Yeah, with a big dragon painted on it?" Balthazar begged, his eyes lighting up with excitement. Dean shook his head.
"I'm gonna kill Charlie for getting you into friggen dragons," Dean mumbled under his breath. A paint dragon was better than a real one though. Dean sat up, stretching his arms up until his back popped. "I'll see what I can do," he promised. Balthazar let out a little cheer that was cut off by the sound of the bedroom door flying open.
"Dean," Bobby called. "We got a case the next town over." Dean raised a brow at the hunter and the phone Bobby had pressed to his ear.
"A case? Bobby, we can't—"
"There's an Incubus roaming around and the hunter that was chasing him is in the hospital. We're the only ones in the area right now." Dean groaned and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Damn it." Something always happened the second they ever come close to heading home of finishing the house. Dean was starting to wonder if they were ever going to get their own home again.
Sensing Dean's distress, Custos whined and nuzzled Dean's thigh again. Dean dropped his hand from his face and the puppy let out a little yap before nuzzling at Dean a third time. Dean forced a thankful smile at Custos and looked to Bobby.
"Okay, when do we leave?"
