It'll Be Okay
A pile of suitcases surrounded the front door of Jody's home. Dean and Sam had piled the luggage there and planned to move everything into the back of the Impala and Bobby's truck one they moved the vehicles from Jody's garage. The hunters had a little helper guarding their pile of suitcases. Castiel sat on a dark brown duffle bag at the very top of the pile grooming his black wings. Sam and Dean had given the little angel a very important job. He was told to keep Balthazar or Gabriel from doing anything to the pile like turning it into Mount Everest or a purple dragon. Castiel, of course, took this to heart and sat vigilant as he awaited for one or both of his brothers to show up.
Gold shown in the corner of Cas' eye and the little angel shot up, snapping his fingers. A yelp sounded loudly throughout the house and Castiel turned, smirking at the sight of Gabriel hanging upside down in the air.
"What the hell, Cas!" Gabe cried out, wiggling against Castiel's grace's hold.
"Have you come to disturb the luggage?" Castiel questioned, ignoring his brother's curses and hisses.
"What? No, I was just coming to ask if the guys wanted help with moving stuff. Kevin stole Vali from me to get the stuff for our wings."
"You're not lying?' Castiel asked cautiously.
"No!"
With a click of Castiel's fingers, Gabriel's body straightened out and fell lightly back onto the floor. Gabriel shook himself and slowly eased himself from the floor and onto his feet.
"Thanks," he huffed. "Need help playing guard dog?"
Castiel turned his head to the side in thought for a moment before giving his brother a small nod. Gabriel flew to him then, taking a seat next to his baby brother. Cas smiled at him, but only for a second when his eyes suddenly fell onto Gabriel's face. Gabriel's cheeks were stained with tears and glossy like he'd just been crying a short time ago.
"Gabby?" Castiel questioned gently. He reached out, wiping at one of the lines running down Gabriel's cheek. "What's wrong?"
Gabriel smiled. "Nothing bad, Cassie, I promise." He took Cas' hand gently in his own and pulled it away from his tear stained face. "It's just…Vali healed the scars on his arms a little while ago and…" Gabe swallowed hard, fighting back the tears threatening to spill again. "…I never thought he'd trust me enough to…to start over completely like that. He's giving me a chance, Cas. He's giving both of us a chance."
"Gabriel," Castiel breathed. A smile began to curl over his lips and he plowed into his brother, holding him tight. "Brother, that's great," Cas cheered.
"Yeah, yeah, it is," Gabe whispered into Cas' shoulder. "But…" He squeezed Castiel tighter. "…what if I mess up again?"
Castiel pulled back, blue eyes glinting fiercely. "You won't," he said. "You've changed, Gabe. You won't abandon him, never again."
"How can you be so sure?"
"Because you haven't abandoned me or Balthazar. Since we became a family again you've always been there for us." Gabriel looked away; shaking his head and Castiel's own face fell when he realized where Gabriel's thoughts may be taking him.
"You forget," Gabriel whispered softly. "I did abandon you and Gabriel. You were possessed and Balthazar was the only one who could see it. I…was blind and you both got hurt in the process –"
"No, you forget," Castiel growled, startling his older brother. "We were all blind to it. It wasn't just you, Gabby, and you know what? You tried to make things right after. You stayed with Balthazar and I when we were hurt and vulnerable. You took care of us. Once upon a time, you would have run away because you felt ashamed or hurt, but you stayed. You always come back to us, Gabby, and I know you'll do the same for Vali."
Gabriel stared at him and Castiel stared right back, daring his brother with electric blue eyes to argue with him. The archangel did no such thing though. Instead, Gabriel's entire body slumped forward until he practically melted against Castiel's body. "Thanks, Cas," he whispered and Castiel settled, tense shoulders relaxing and eyes softening. Cas wasn't stupid. He knew his brother still felt guilty for his past, but he hoped that maybe his words had struck deep enough to give his brother some peace of mind at least for now.
"Awww are you two having a moment without me?" Balthazar cooed from the base of the luggage pile. Cas looked away from Gabriel and squinted down at the silver winged angel. Balthazar held a suitcase in his hands labeled with Sam's name and had a cheeky grin plastered across his lips. Castiel clicked his fingers on seeing the suitcase and Balthazar screamed as he was thrown up into the air and held upside down. "Cassie! Cassie, let me down!"
Castiel shook his head. "Not until you drop the suitcase."
"I'd do what he says, Balthy!" Gabriel called up at his brother, a smile returning to his face. Castiel watched him in the corner of his eye, a small feeling of victory thrumming through his heart.
"Cas?" The angel turned, watching as Sam, Dean, and Lucifer appeared through the front door. "What are you doing?" Sam questioned.
Dean snorted. "Taking the whole 'watch our luggage' thing a little too seriously?"
"You think?!" Balthazar cried, flapping his wings hard in attempt to push himself upright again, but Cas held him down with his grace.
Dean laughed and waved a hand at his angel. "That's okay, Cas. Let him go. We'll need the extra hands to move all these bags to the Impala."
Reluctantly, Castiel released his brother and Balthazar flew into the safety of Dean's arms, wrapping his arms around the hunter's neck and puffing his wings up around himself. Dean laughed again and looked around.
"Where're the others?" he questioned.
"Packing up what's left," Gabriel said.
Lucifer let out a little whimper in Sam's arms, wings drooping. "Don't want you to leave," he huffed sadly, bottom lip quivering. Sam cooed softly at the baby archangel in attempt to calm him, but Lucifer was having none of that. "Want you to stay!" he yelled, sad whimpers turning into something more with more anger. Castiel flew from his perch then and landed on Sam's right shoulder. He reached down, stroking one of Lucifer's pink wings. Lucifer looked up at him grumpily and Cas patted his brother's wing lightly.
"We'll be back, Luci," Castiel promised.
"Yeah, or you can come visit us," Sam added. "You can check out our new house."
"Yep, and you and your brothers can explore all the new rooms Sammy and I had built," Dean encouraged.
Lucifer hummed softly to himself, wings slowly drooping along with his frown as he warmed to the idea. "O…kay," he sighed and Sam ruffled his hair lightly before looking to the other three angels in the room and his brother.
"Let's get the last of these bags to the Impala then," Sam told them.
"Aye, aye, Sammy-kins!" Gabriel cheered, fluttering to a black suitcase and grabbing it by the handle. Sam rolled his eyes at the archangel and Castiel failed at stifling a laugh at the two of them.
Eventually, the pile went down to a few small bags that Kevin, Bobby, and Vali helped clear away as they returned with a plastic bag full of toiletries. Castiel watched Vali and Gabriel in the corner of his eye, taking in their bright smiles and the way Gabriel's gaze went far away whenever he got a glance at Vali's scarless arms.
"They'll be okay," a voice said from Castiel's side. The angel turned, eyes falling on Dean. The hunter was watching Gabriel and Vali too with Cas' bee covered backpack thrown over his shoulder. He glanced down at Cas and gave the angel a wink. "They are a part of this family and we always end up okay in the end, yeah?" Castiel nodded and flew to Dean's shoulders, settling down so Dean's hair tickled his nose and his arms were buried in the hunter's hair. Dean started walking then, carrying Cas to the Impala where the others said their goodbyes to Lucifer, Alex, and Jody with kisses, hugs, and warm laughter.
I have some good news, guys! I graduated high school! *throws confetti* I have some free time at last now so I'm going to devote myself on writing chapters for this and finishing/posting other SPN fics I've been sitting on all year before college life and the real world gets the chance to swallows me whole.
Oh, and sorry for the misunderstanding last chapter, Sara. This is not the last chapter of Wee Angels. This is the last chapter with the angels and Winchesters living with Jody Mills. Wee Angels is far from being over so no worries :)
