Eclipse

Bile rushed up Adam's throat. The scent of blood was coiling around him, choking him of clean air and filling his lungs.

"Adam?"

Hesitantly, Adam opened his eyes.

"You're okay."

Soft wings wrapped around Adam's head.

"It's just a nightmare."

Adam took a breath. The terribly thick stench of blood and death clung to him even in his conscious state but the fear it inflicted was slowly starting to pass as he realized that he was home— that he was safe.

"S— sorry, Michael."

Adam reached out, brushing his fingers through the soft down near the joints of Michael's left wing.

"Did I—?"

"No." Michael forced a sad smile. "I'm okay."

Adam nodded slowly and closed his eyes as he focused on the gentle touch of Michael's feathers. Relief bubbled in his chest when Michael didn't pull away from him or flinch. The little angel tended to lie whenever asked if he was okay after one of Adam's flashes or nightmares. His body always told the truth though.

"You wanna talk?"

"No." Adam ran one of his hands through his hair. It was now thinner and greyer thanks to the stress he lived through night and day. "Just let me…" He took a deep breath, the smell of blood this time not choking his lungs. "...let me catch my breath."

"Okay."

Michael reached out to his caretaker after a few moments of silence. His fingers traced patterns over Adam's temple— enochian symbols to be exact. Adam had asked Michael once what the little patterns meant. The angel had told Adam they were symbols of protection and rest— two things Adam needed whether he wanted to admit it or not.

Adam opened his eyes again once he felt a little better and he took in his surroundings. He was on the couch in the living room with Michael seated on his chest. They were wrapped in an old quilt with Teletubbies playing in the background on the old box TV.

He must have fallen asleep when they settled down for a little TV time.

"There's an eclipse today," Michael said after a while. "The news lady said so."

Adam turned his head to look up into Michael's bright blue eyes. "That so?" he hummed sleepily.

Michael bobbed his head, and a small smile stretching over his lips. "Uh huh," he said. "Can we watch it?"

"Well I can't say no to that face, now can I?" His angel shook his head in answer and Adam chuckled. "Okay. We'll make a picnic out of it, yeah?"

"Yeah!" Michael cried and Adam reached out, booping him on the nose.

Adam hugged Michael tight as they stared up at the sky above. They were out in their backyard on an old blanket Adam had found in a storage closet. It was covered in an assortment of snack foods and cans of ginger ale he and Michael had managed to hunt down. It wasn't turkey sandwiches and watermelon but it was still something.

The eclipse had gone into effect not too long ago and now a ring of silver light hung high in the sky for the man and baby angel to view.

"Adam?" Michael's voice was soft. "Do you think my brothers are watching too?"

Tension pulled at Adam's muscles but not because Michael had mentioned the other angels. No, what really set his teeth on edge was the thought of his own brothers. What if his own the Winchesters were watching the eclipse too?

Adam pictured Sam and Dean on the hood of their dad's old impala, smiles on their faces and beers in their hands.

The image made Adam sick.

Gentle fingers rubbed shapes into the back of Adam's hand and the young man snappd out of his thoughts. He looked down, eyes locking with Michael's sad blue ones.

"Sorry," Michael whispered.

Guilt thrummed through Adam's chest and he ran a soothing hand through Michael's feathers.

Wow, he thought, great job, Adam.

"No," the stressed human sighed. "I'm sorry." He forced a smile. "I'm sure your brothers are watching too, Michael."

A small smile eased back onto the angel's face and Michael turned away, eyes going back up to the sky above. Adam followed his gaze and forced his mind off his brothers and onto the angel in his lap instead.

*Rises from the dead* Long time no see. How's everyone enjoying the eclipse? I sadly can't see it since it's raining where I live but whatever.

Thank you, SARA1988, for the eclipse request.
