Chapter 59: On the Cliff's Edge
(Oscorp Tower, moments later)
(Hey guys, if you've made it this far congrats…you're not at the part where we're dead meat. Goby has us cornered, were tired and outnumbered…I don't like where this is headed.)
The Goblin King and his minions cackle, the terrible collective sound was horrific to hear. The constant, mocking laughing echoed through the hall as spittle flew. The heroes stood, tried yet ready.
"What are you waiting for?! Come on, already!" White Tiger snarled.
"Why? You are beaten. You are alone in this building. My soldiers now patrol this building. They were faking! If you had paid attention you would've noticed yet were too much in a rush to notice. The silent alarm was sent once you freed them. You will never get out of here." The Goblin King scoffed.
Spider-Man's eyes widened in fear.
(H-He's right…if…if I was more careful…I would've known…but…but I…)
"Then we'll take you down with us." White Tiger growled.
"Little tiger, despite your claws you cannot the might of the Goblin King! Or my army! You are finished!" The Goblin King scoffed.
White Tiger snarled as she bared her claws before the Goblin King.
"Easy girl, we're not in the best of situations." Power Man whispered.
"You all might be tired, but I'm not. The amulet gave me back my energy. I'm good to go." White Tiger whispered back.
"You might be, but the rest of us aren't." Power Man replied.
"I'm good as well. I've been waiting for this." Agent Venom grunted.
"Guys...I'm not liking this." Nova whimpered.
"Ah what the hell? Get them!" The Goblin King laughed then pointed a finger at the group.
His minions cackled and snarled as they leapt at the group. Spider-Man quickly fired off several webbing blasts that created a blockade in the hall. White Tiger had been prepared to leap forward, claws bared.
"What the-?" White Tiger grunted in agitation.
"We don't have time for this! We're outnumbered and outgunned! Let's move!" Spider-Man called out.
White Tiger snarled in annoyance. But the group then ran.
"GET THEM!" Goblin King bellowed from behind the webbing wall.
The group could hear the Goblins trying to cut through the webbing.
"What's the plan?" Power Man asked.
"Get to the machine! I remember where it is. We have the antivirus, new and improved. We take it, this hell is done. Let's go!" Spider-Man answered.
(Outside of Oscorp Tower)
S.H.I.E.L.D.'s forces were fighting as best they could, but they were slowly being overrun. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s tactical soldiers created a perimeter and those positioned in the outposts held strategic positions around where the Goblins are swarming. The rest of the Academy is doing they're best to keep the Goblin army stalled. Phil Coulson held command. He fired off several shots from his dual blasters. Wearing tactical S.H.I.E.L.D. body armor gave him some added protection in combat.
"How we doing everyone?!" Phil Coulson called out, firing a blast and hitting a Goblin.
"How do you think?!" Rhino scoffed, swatting away one Goblin after another.
"Very funny." Phil Coulson fake laughed.
Dagger fired off several light daggers, peppering several Goblins in storms. Cloak teleported around, dropping or moving Goblins into attacks or places where they'd be knocked out. Triton held some issue with grappling with the Goblins.
"I…I could use some help over here!" Triton grunted, punching a Goblin.
Squirrel Girl leapt over several Goblins, leaping across the Goblins while using their heads as stepping stones.
"I'm coming!" Squirrel Girl responded.
She leapt over and tackled a Goblin who was grappling Triton from behind. Triton then punched a Goblin rushing at him then leapt up and kicked another who leapt at him. Squirrel Girl and Triton leapt toward each other, throwing punches and hitting Goblins leaping at either of them.
"Thanks." Triton said.
"No problem." Squirrel Girl responded.
They both rushed back into the fight. Ka-Zar and Zabu fought side by side. Ka-Zar dodged the attacks of a few Goblins, using his agility to maneuver around their strikes. Zabu slashed at a few Goblins, roaring all the time, grappling with the foes as he dodges and lunged when he sensed the best opportunity to attack.
"Hold the line everyone! We have to-" Phil Coulson called.
His communicator is going off.
"Spider-Man?" Phil Coulson answered.
"We got them out, Coulson. We're heading to the machine. We're gonna end this!" Spider-Man responded.
"You heard him people! We're not done yet!" Phil Coulson called out, continuing to fire blasts.
(Oscorp Tower, a few minutes later)
Spider-Man led them to the top of Oscorp Tower. A few Goblins stood guard. Spider-Man fired off several web blasts, wrapping the Goblins up. Power Man rushed forward, pummeling the Goblins until they were knocked out.
"Cho! We gotta get to work!" Spider-Man ordered.
"Right!" Iron Spider replied.
The two rushed to the machine, getting to work. From within the tower, they could hear laughing and running.
"They're coming! Venom! Seal that door!" Spider-Man called out.
"Got it." Agent venom responded.
He shut the door then fired off blasts. The black goo sealed the cracks. After a moment or so, there was slamming on the door.
"Crap! Venom, Luke, and Nova! Hold that door!" Spider-Man ordered.
The trio rushed to the door, placing their hands on it to strengthen its defense.
"Hurry up, eggheads! I'm not sure we can hold this door!" Nova called out.
"Damn it! Goby really encrypted this thing." Spider-Man cursed.
"Come on! Together we're both smarter than that lunatic!" Iron Spider scoffed.
"Goblin's crazy, not stupid. Decode that thing! We're gonna have company soon!" White Tiger hissed, baring her claws.
Director Fury pulled out two batons from within his coat. Iron Fists' fist glow as he takes a fighting position.
"Hold 'em! Hold 'em!" Power Man bellowed to Agent Venom and Nova, trying to keep the Goblins within the tower.
A roar bellowed from within the tower. A blast destroyed the door and sent the trio trying to hold it flying back and skidding across the rooftop. Goblin King stood at where the door once was.
"Now, now kiddies…did you really think it was going to be that easy?" Goblin King scoffed.
White Tiger snarled as he leapt forward, slashing with her right claws. Goblin King growled in agitation. She back flipped a few feet away from him. Goblin King's right hand went to his face, feeling the marks across his face. His eyes went wide then looked to White Tiger.
"I figured we'd have to cut you down to size." White Tiger snarled.
The Goblin King snarled.
"I'm gonna enjoy turning you back into a Goblin, then I'll have you tear your little boy toy apart." Goblin King hissed.
White Tiger's eyes narrowed fury.
(I-Is he…talking about me? Boy toy?...Whoa…)
"Take th-" Goblin King started to say.
There was a familiar sound that Goblin King hated. Behind him, webbing covered the door. Spider-Man had his hands up. Agent Venom quickly raised his hands, firing off blasts too. Sealing the webbing with his own goo. Goblin King snarled.
(Victory by Two Steps From Hell plays)
"It's just us, big guy." Power Man grunted, punching his right hand into his left palm.
"Fine by me. Raahh!" Goblin King scoffed then snarled and charged.
Power Man leapt at him, throwing a punch forward. Goblin King caught his fist then threw his own punch, the blow hit Power Man's torso and sent him skidding across the rooftop.
"Kiiyyahh!" Iron Fist shouted as he lunged forward, throwing his right fist.
The blow struck Goblin King's face. Goblin King growled in pain, dropping to one knee. Goblin King grabbed his face then threw him across the rooftop.
"Venom! Together!" Nova called out.
Agent Venom shouted as he fired off venom missiles. Nova did the same with his energy blasts. Goblin King used his arms to guard himself. The missiles and blasts hit his arms, causing an explosion. Goblin King suddenly leapt form the explosion and grabbed both of them, slamming them into the ground.
"White Tiger! With me!" Director Fury ordered.
They both rushed at Goblin King. Director Fury swung his right baton, hitting Goblin King's right hand then his left hit his neck.
"Hahaha! Really? Throwing fruit would hurt more!" Goblin King scoffed.
"This will hurt more." Director Fury grunted.
Goblin King's spidey sense went off. He turned to see claws flying towards him. They raked his face, leaving more marks. Goblin King growled in pain and anger, putting his hands on his face. He raised his right hand, which danced with fire. He slung it from the left side of his body to the right. Fire surged in that arc. Agent Venom screeched in pain, the flames striking him and sending him to the ground writhing in pain.
"No!" Spider-Man called out.
Nova blasted the fire, the energy blast striking the fire and sending up in smoke. Goblin King threw his left hand forward, the fire blazing toward Nova and knocking him into the rooftop. He cried out in surprise. White Tiger leapt forward, striking with her claws again. They slashed across his chest. Goblin King ducked under the strike then punched upwards. White Tiger flipped over the strike. Director Fury struck with his batons, slamming into Goblin King's face. The Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. leapt to the side then Power Man stood in his place. He repeatedly punched Goblin King's face. Goblin King growled and opened his mouth, fire filling it then blew out of his jaws. The fire struck Power Man in his chest dead center, sending him flying back. Power Man cried out in panic and flew over the edge of the building. He grabbed the edge of it, almost sending him falling to the ground.
"Power Man!" Iron Fist cried out.
"Nova help him up! Iron Fist! Keep hitting Goby!" Spider-Man called out.
Nova flew over to help his friend. Iron Fist slammed his mystic fists repeatedly into Goblin King's chest. Goblin King snarled and slammed down with both of his fists. Iron Fist leapt out of the way. Goblin King's fists created a crater in the rooftop. His eyes went to Spider-Man, who still was working on the machine with Iron Spider.
"PARKER! YOU COWARD! YOU THINK THIS WILL STOP ME?! YOU'RE PATHETIC! I'LL RIP THROUGH EVERYONE YOU CARE ABOUT! YOU CAN'T STOP ME! NEVER HAVE, NEVER WILL! HAHAHAHA!" Goblin King laughed, bellowing across the rooftop.
Spider-Man's fingers stopped working on the machine. He froze. He stood up.
"Spidey-?" Iron Spider gasped.
"Keep working on the machine, you can handle it. Goby's mine." Spider-Man ordered, walking towards Goblin King.
"Ah. Done with the pawns, now I face the king. Or should it be jester?" Goblin King scoffed.
"Oh, I'm gonna enjoy this." Spider-Man chuckled, cracking his knuckles.
"You're not doing this alone." White Tiger said, standing beside Spider-Man.
"We're all here." Power Man added, walking to stand beside them with Nova and Iron Fist.
Director Fury walked to stand behind them, batons charging with electricity.
"Heh heh. You cannot decode my machine. Triple encrypted in every segment of data tables they make the machine work. You're doomed." Goblin King chuckled.
"We'll see about that." Spider-Man said.
Goblin King charged forward. Spider-Man and his allies charged as well. Goblin King snarled as he threw his right fist forward, ablaze with fire. The group leapt around it. Spider-Man skidded under Goblin King and kicked out with both feet, striking Goblin King in his chest. Goblin King's torso was forced up. Power Man grunted as he punched Goblin King's chest. Goblin King grunted in frustration. He swung his left arm. Power Man ducked under the attack. Nova flew in a circle above Goblin King firing off blasts. They kept striking his scaly skin. Goblin King fired off blast of energy in return. Director Fury jumped on Goblin King's back and jabbed the charged batons onto the sides of Goblin King's neck. Goblin King growled in anger and pain.
"Gnats!" Goblin King snarled.
He reached back with his hands to grab Director Fury, who jumped away from the fiery hands.
"Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee!" Spider-Man called out, lunging forward with a punch.
The blow struck Goblin King's face.
"BUG!" Goblin King hissed, striking out with his right fist.
Spider-Man grumbled under his breath leaping out of the way. Iron Fist leapt forward, throwing one of his mystic fists which hit Goblin King square in his chest. Goblin King coughed and gasped, the air gone from his lungs. Iron Fist followed it up with a strike from his other fist, hitting his foe in the face and sending him to his knees. The group then rushed forward, punching, slashing, striking, blasting…but Goblin King suddenly threw them off with a roar, sending them skidding across the rooftop.
"Heh..heh…heh haahaha! It'll take…more than that." Goblin King laughed.
His spidey sense went off. He turned to see Agent Venom leaping towards him, punching him in his face.
"How about that?! Gaahh!" Agent Venom growled, throwing another punch.
Goblin King caught his fist then slung him away. Power Man leapt up and caught him. They fell to the ground.
"Nice one. Now, let's finish this!" Spider-Man grunted, picking himself off the ground.
The others got up and they rushed forward. Goblin King snarled as he leapt at them, spit flying from his jaws. He threw his right fist forward. The group scattered around the attack. They began trading places, jumping in and out, striking with their attacks in a coordinated effort. There was suddenly a sound coming from the machine. Goblin King's eyes bulged with surprise at hearing it.
"YES! I GOT IN!" Iron Spider cried out with triumph.
"NNNOO!" Goblin King roared then lunged toward him.
Iron Spider fired a repulsor blast from both of his armored hands. Goblin King blocked them with his arms. He snarled as he walked toward Iron Spider.
"Uhh, guys!" Iron Spider called out, his voice thick with worry.
Agent Venom fired off several venom missiles. They struck Goblin King in his back, causing several explosions. Goblin King growled in frustration. Spider-Man, Iron Fist, and Power Man leapt forward. They repeatedly punched his back, receiving a growl of pain from their foe. He swung back with his right arm. The trio leapt away. Director Fury jumped forward, swinging with his batons. Goblin King blocked with the same arm. He slammed down with his right fist, crushing the part of the roof beneath him. White Tiger leapt at him, slashing with her claws. Goblin King growled as he breathed fire at her, but she leapt away.
"Little bi-" Goblin King hissed, but couldn't finish as White Tiger leapt up again with a slash with her claws.
The attack struck his face. He growled in pain.
"I'VE HAD IT WITH THOSE CLAWS!" Goblin King bellowed.
White Tiger grinned under her mask then skidded away from Goblin King's punch.
"You're not touching her!" Spider-Man yelled as he leapt at Goblin King.
He threw his right fist forward, striking Goblin King in his face. Iron Fist leapt forward and struck with both of his fists, sending Goblin King skidding across the rooftop, also still being driven by the repulsor blasts.
"NOW CHO!" Spider-Man cried out.
Iron Spider quickly went back to the machine. Goblin King got back onto his feet and growled.
"Create a barrier around Iron Spider! Tiger, with me! Let's finish this!" Spider-Man shouted.
"Gladly!" White Tiger replied.
The others stood in a line, protecting Iron Spider. White Tiger and Spider-Man lunged towards Goblin King. The two dodged and leapt around Goblin King's punches and swipes.
"I'LL KILL YOU ALL!" Goblin King roared, his rage surging through every word.
"Not happening!" Spider-Man replied, firing off webbing.
Goblin King's claws popped out, slashing through the webbing. Goblin King shot his right hand forward, which wrapped around Spider-Man's throat. The wall crawler gasped and coughed, gripping Goblin King's hand.
"Gah! *Coughs* A-Anytime now!" Spider-Man gagged.
Goblin King grunted and turned around, breathing fire as soon as he turned. His spidey sense blared and his mouth was closed instantly from White Tiger's uppercut below him. Goblin King's grip on Spider-Man was gone.
"It seems I'm always saving your ass." White Tiger chuckled.
"I'm glad for it too, Tiger." Spider-Man replied.
Iron Spider continued working and his eyes went wide under his face mask. He practically slammed a button. A green mist, not a sickly color but a more pristine green, surged from the machine.
"IT'S DONE!" Iron Spider cried out, triumphantly.
"NO! I WON'T BE DENIED!" Goblin King bellowed as he leapt up and tried to race forward.
White Tiger and Spider-Man leapt in front of him.
"It's over Goby!" Spider-Man shouted, leaping forward and throwing a punch.
"You're finished!" White Tiger added, lunging forward at the same time.
"NNOO! I WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE LAST LAUGH! NNNOOO!" Goblin King screamed.
They punched him at the same time and sending him to the floor.
(The song ends)
The mist began spreading far and away, across the entire city. Every Goblin groaned and dropped to the floor, shifting back to their original forms and knocked out yet unharmed. On top of Oscorp Tower and down below it, S.H.I.E.L.D. cheered. Spider-Man looked down and saw Goblin King shift back into the form of Norman Osborn, knocked out as well. Spider-Man took off his mask, tears in his eyes.
"We did it. Tiger, we did I-" Peter started to cheer as he turned to White Tiger.
White Tiger had leapt at him, mask just above her mouth, and kissed him. Peter gasped and pulled back. The others on the rooftop stared wide eyed or just smiled
"T-Tiger? Wh-Wha-?" Peter gasped, eyes bulging and cheeks red.
White Tiger gripped the back of his head.
"Shut up and enjoy the moment, idiot." White Tiger grunted, aggression and passion in her voice.
She attacked his lips with hers, a ferocious and passionate embrace. Again surprised, but this time Peter lovingly returned the kiss as they both wrapped their arms around one another to celebrate their victory and act upon their passion.
