Two weeks. He had been back for only two weeks and he had already had enough of the Dursleys. Hedwig gave a quiet hoot from her cage that she was again locked in. Could he go through another summer like last year? No, the answer was swift. An idea began to form. Contrary to what many believed, Harry was very intelligent. He just played down his abilities so as to not draw attention.
Harry waited until he was sure the Dursleys were asleep before wandlessly and wordlessly unlocking the lock on Hedwig's cage. " You'll know where to find me beautiful.", he whispered before she took off. Taking a deep breath, he concentrated on wandlessly and wordlessly shrinking the cage. Once it was shrunk, he put it in his pocket before quietly unlocking his door.
He used the same wandless and wordless magic on the lock on his old cupboard and shrunk his trunk. Silently, he left the house, pausing long enough to leave a letter explaining that he wouldn't be back. As the last of the Potter line he would be eligible for emancipation as soon as he turned thirteen which was just a month away.
After taking the Knight Bus to the Leaky Cauldron, Harry made his way to the White Wyvern in Knockturn Alley. A flare of his magic was enough to keep him safe. He went inside the pub and asked for a room, paying for a month up front. The vampire just nodded, took his money and handed him a key.
The room was clean, but most importantly no one would bother him. He took a long shower before climbing into bed. Hedwig greeted him the following morning and watched him as he freshened up and dressed for the day. His first stop would be at Gringotts to get some money so that he could get some new clothes and to have their healers look him over.
" Hello, Griphook. I hope you are doing well today.", Harry said when he spotted the goblin that took him to his vault for the first time. " Hello, Mr. Potter. I am indeed doing well this day. How may I help you?", Griphook answered with politeness. Witches and wizards barely gave goblins a second thought, never mind asking about their day. " I'm hoping to have some of your healers look me over and to withdrawl some money and exchange some for pounds.", Harry said.
" That will not be a problem, please follow me.", Griphook said before leading him down a hall. Soon enough, they were in what appeared to be a ritual chamber. Another goblin, named Breehook, ran diagnostics. The female goblin quickly turned to Griphook and began rapidly speaking in her native tongue.
" Mr. Potter, there appears to be a horcrux, a small piece of someone's soul, in your scar. We can remove it of course by transferring it into something else before destroying it.", Griphook explained. A piece of someone's soul? With horror, Harry quickly came to realize it must be Voldemort's. " Please remove it.", Harry said firmly .
It took some coaxing, but the fragment finally released its' hold and was transferred into a gemstone. After that it took an additional half hour to complete a cleansing ritual. Breehook then gave him a list of potions he would need to take which she would supply him.
Feeling much better and now able to see without his glasses, Harry bought a new trunk that had a few different compartments and charms, a new wizarding wardrobe, and books before eating a late lunch. He then went to the muggle side of London and got new clothes, more books and a few other things.
Harry wrote to Professor McGonagall to inform her he wanted to take Ancient Runes and Arithmacy instead of Divination when he got back to his room. The next month was spent with Harry taking his potions, he had grown after the ritual, but still needed to take the nutrient potions until he went back to Hogwarts, reading, practicing spells and potions, and exercising.
Finally it was his birthday. He wasted no time in claiming his lordship, have his parent's will read and moving into the newly built Potter Manor. While Harry had only access to his trust vault before becoming emancipated, he had found out through a heritage test last year, he had taken a little time away from the Weasleys when they went shopping, that he was entitled to the Slytherin vault by right of conquest thanks to Voldemort keeping his gold there. This vault had no age restrictions, so Harry had commissioned the Potter Manor to be built where the old one had been destroyed out of that money.
