(The next day)
Walking hand in hand, the couple was observing everyone. InuYasha scanned over the crowd.
"Where is he?"
Kagome smiled and waved at the students they passed by.
"Did you catch his name yesterday?"
Funny, his name didn't stick, but if he saw the guy, he would know it's him.
"Not really, but he had long, dark black, greasy hair, pale skin, and dressed kind of goth. He may have even had on some black eyeliner too."
"Well, a character like that shouldn't be hard to find."
As they walked to class, neither one caught site of Naraku, or the evil smirk he gave the two.
Kagome sang her heart out in chorus, then went on to her other classes. Literature class was right around the corner, and as she walked in and saw her mate, everything went black.
InuYasha watched Kagome coming into the class with a huge smile on her face when she caught sight of him, but then he could sense something was wrong as she seemed to stare at nothing and took on a scared expression.
"I-I…Inu."
Immediately, he was up and by her side.
"What is it, Kagome?"
Tears were brimming in her eyes as she started to shake.
"I…c-can't…see."
"What?"
"All I see is darkness, it's so dark. Please help me."
"What can I do? How could this happen?"
"I don't know."
The teacher ran over and told the students to stay in their seats while she grabbed the nurse. Cradling his mate, InuYasha glared at all the onlookers.
"What the hell are you staring at?! Mind your own business."
The feral growl, at the end of his sentence, did the trick.
It wasn't long before the nurse came in and rushed Kagome out of the class, InuYasha was following until the teacher put his hand on his chest.
"You stay here."
With crazy in his eyes, he turned his glare to the teacher and cracked his knuckles as he poised his hand in the gutting position.
"You should know not to get in the way of a demon and his mate. Now, you'd better let me go before I do something I'll regret."
Choking down a whimper, the teacher moved aside and InuYasha nodded his head in thanks.
He watched them rush Kagome out of the school and frowned. Hurting her was the last thing he wanted, but to obtain his goal it couldn't be helped. Next step would be finding a way to separate those two long enough for him to put his plan into action.
Naraku held the ball of miasma in his hand and smiled.
"Not long now, my love."
The miasma pulsed with light and Naraku smirked, just a little more will do it.
Rocking back and forth, InuYasha hid his face in his hands as he waited, impatiently, in the main room. What was taking them so damn long?! He felt so helpless and weak.
Just then, a doctor came out and approached him.
"You must be the half-demon that came in with Ms. Higurashi."
"I am. How is she, doc?"
The doctor looked down and shook his head, "I'm sorry to say this, but there is no medical reason for why your friend can't see. However, we did find something strange on the back of her neck."
"What is it?"
"A spider symbol which has the appearance of being burned in, but her flesh is not burnt at all. This can only be the work of a curse, possibly demonic in nature."
"Why would someone curse Kagome? She'd never hurt anyone!"
The doctor adjusted his glasses, "correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the two of you mated?"
Feeling defensive, InuYasha growled low in his throat, "yeah, what of it?!"
Raising his hands out in front of him, the doctor simply tried to ease InuYasha's mind.
"No, you misunderstand. I ask because there are those that don't condone half-demon and human mating, and I wonder if someone that hates your union, could have done it."
The doc was right.
"In that case, what should I do?"
"I'm not an expert on curses, but I know someone that can help you. His name is Miroku Hoshi and he runs a shop down town. He comes from a long line of monks and has spiritual powers, so he exorcises demons on the side. If anyone can help you break this curse, it's him."
Turning his head to Kagome's room, InuYasha nodded and took the information to find Miroku, before walking into her hospital room.
"Kagome."
She was curled up in a ball, tears falling down her face, "what did the doctor say? Will I be able to see again?"
Scooting in next to her, he wrapped an arm around her waist and gently held her, "a curse has been put on you, but I'm going to see this Miroku guy and figure out a way to break it."
"Miroku Hoshi?"
"You know him?"
"Yeah, he comes to the shrine all the time with all different women. He's known to be a lecherous pervert."
Sighing, InuYasha hid his face in her hair, "great, he couldn't have been some normal guy, not with the way my luck's been lately."
Tilting her face up, InuYasha gave her a lingering sweet kiss, "I'll be back as soon as I can. They want to keep you overnight, just don't worry about this; I will break the curse."
Smiling, she nodded, "I know you will, love."
Leaving the hospital was hard to do, but InuYasha needed to find this monk before that goth guy does something else to his Kagome. Following the directions, the doctor gave him, InuYasha found the place pretty easy and moved to walk in, but a beautiful lady burst through the doors at the same time.
"I can't believe you! We had such an incredible night together, and then I find out that you've slept with my sister!?"
A young handsome man with a low ponytail rushed out, "come on, your sister and I slept together like a month ago. She's in the past and you're my present, Christine."
Smooth.
Suddenly, the woman's face went a deep red before she opened her mouth wide, "MY NAME IS KRISTIN!"
She kept walking in a huff as the man InuYasha could only surmise as Miroku, shook his head in disappointment, "too bad, she has a way better rack than her sister. Oh well, now, what can I help you with?"
Wow, that guy didn't even appear phased, "I need to talk to you about curses."
The laidback expression stiffened as Miroku gestured for him to walk inside the store, before shutting the door behind them and locking it.
"Who told you I know anything about curses?"
"A doctor at the hospital down the road."
"Of course! My brother put you up to this, well you can tell Hachi that I'm not falling for it. I've dropped the habit and I'm not going back."
Rolling his eyes, InuYasha crossed his arms and glared, "Look, I don't know what you mean by all that, but my mate is in bad shape because someone at our school has put a curse on her. I need your help to break it."
"Mate? You can't be more than seventeen."
"So, what? That doesn't matter, what does is helping Kagome, now will you or won't you?"
"Kagome…Higurashi? From the Higurashi shrine?"
Okay, InuYasha did not like this guy knowing his woman, "that's her."
"Alright, I'll do it."
"Why the sudden change of heart?"
Miroku spread his arms out, "you see this place? I wouldn't have it if it wasn't for them. Thanks to Kagome's Grandmother, I was able to tap into my spiritual powers and make lots of money blessing homes, and exorcising demons. I'll do anything for that family."
"Kagome's family were the first people to accept me as a half-demon and not hate me, so I get it. Kagome means everything to me, and I want to break this curse before it gets any worse."
"What can you tell me about it?"
They discussed everything in detail about who they thought cast it, Kagome's blindness, and the spider burn mark on her neck.
"Hmm, a spider burn mark, why does that sound so familiar?"
Running over to his books, the monk began perusing his collection, confusing InuYasha.
"Hey, couldn't you just Google it?"
"My dear boy, these books are one-of-a-kind antiques! You won't find their material on the internet, that I can assure you."
"Dude, how old are you? You sound like an old grump."
"I'm only twenty-four, and there's nothing wrong with appreciating a good book. I'm just old-school."
Getting his cellphone out, InuYasha did some 'perusing' of his own, "hey, old-school, does the name Onigumo sound familiar?"
Miroku ran over, "did you say, Onigumo? The spider demon of destruction and chaos?"
"That's what it says here on Wiki."
"Onigumo, if that is the demon being used to curse her, then we have more of a problem than you think."
Furrowing his brows, InuYasha sat down at the table next to his library, "what are you saying?"
Pulling out a book from the library, Miroku sat down with him, "it says in here, that Onigumo's sole purpose is to find and use the Shikon Jewel to grant his wishes, but what he wishes for is total world domination. He was sealed in an amulet five hundred years ago, so there shouldn't have been a way for him to escape…unless."
"Unless, what?"
"Unless he felt the jewel's presence and awakened. If he did, then he could manipulate someone who touched the amulet and use them to release him from it, but he wouldn't have a body anymore so he would actually be possessing that person."
Slamming his fist on the table, InuYasha shook with frustration, "as fascinating as all that is, I need a way to break the curse first, and then we'll figure out what to do with Onigumo, okay?!"
While InuYasha was with Miroku, he made his move and walked swiftly passed every person in the hospital, no one even noticed him. Opening the door, he grinned and approached her bed. This part was going to be very interesting indeed. Leaning over her sleeping form, he pressed his fingers against her mate mark and said some strange incantation, chuckling as the mark burned and faded away, along with other things.
Tucking some hair behind her ear, he whispered, "soon you will be mine, Kagome, and then I will have everything."
Miroku and InuYasha stayed up all night trying to discover how to break Onigumo's curse, when the hanyou felt a sharp pain and fell to the floor.
"InuYasha! What's wrong?!"
Clutching his chest, he groaned out, "it's Kagome, something has happened!"
Bolting out the store, InuYasha climbed up to her room's window and jumped in, relieved to see her safe and sound, but that's when he noticed his mate mark was gone. How could that happen?!
"Kagome?"
Opening her eyes, she blinked a few times and rubbed her eyes, "where am I?"
He wrapped his arms around her, "are you still blind? You were admitted into the hospital because you suddenly couldn't see anything."
She was whimpering…something was off, "Kagome?"
She pushed him away hard, "I'm sorry, but I don't know you, and it hurts when you touch me."
"What? What do you mean? We've been dating for two months and we recently became mates, don't you remember that?"
Shaking her head, she moved her covers up to her neck, "I'd like for you to leave now."
"Kagome."
He tried to touch her hand, but she moved it away fast, "I don't know who you are, but when you touch me, it's like my skin is being burned, so please don't try to touch me again."
Looking on in horror, InuYasha couldn't stop his eyes from watering, "Kagome, please. Try to remember me."
She felt bad for the guy, but when she tried to put her hand on top of his, more searing pain occurred, "I'm sorry, but I don't."
Watching her turn from him was more painful than anything, but his only way to get her memory back was to break the damn curse!
"Don't worry Kagome. I'm going to find a way to break the curse and you'll regain your memory, then we can live our lives as mates again."
He left her room and she felt a strange twinge in her chest, like something important had been ripped from inside her.
