Finland expected many things in his long life. He had expected freedom, had expected to live in a cottage and enjoy his best life while interacting with those around him and he expected the life he never imagined he'd have; a quiet peaceful life. At least those were the expectations from his youth. Finland found that he was ever so grateful that Sweden was a patient man who waited around long before Finland could come out to himself about the conflicting feelings that he felt for the Swedish man and he was grateful that the Nation had promised to wait. If Sweden hadn't given him that time to grow used to him, to find a comfort in his previous companion he knew that he would never have fallen in love with the Swedish Nation ahd knew that Aili would have never existed. If he had gone for the life he wanted from his youth he would never experience the love and joy of raising two boys, of now raising a little girl who needed him desperately as any five month old needed a parent. He sat in the living room watching Aili swat at her dangling toys then watched as her eyes grew wide when they rattled or jingled at her causing her legs to kick out excitedly as her hands formed fists that reached up hitting at the toys. She grunted quietly as she reached upwards but the after effect of her toys swaying and jingling at her was almost worth the little bit of struggle to reach up so high for Finland loved seeing those multicolored eyes of hers sparkle with satisfaction after hitting the toys. He was humming quietly to himself as he crossed his legs, a camera to the left to him and a scrap book in his lap that he was placing the r ecent roll of pictures into happily while his daughter swatted at her toys at her toys.
That very next day Sweden was upstairs talking with both Sealand and Ladonia about their conduct, about discretion apparently and the Finnish Nation couldn't help feeling stabs of guilt as he recalled the Ladonian Nations words. He hadn't meant to be looking at the Ladonian Nation with the look that he was being accused of but he hadn't even been aware that he was doing it! He was observing them like a hawk that much was true but he hadn't meant to be looking at the red head in the way that he was caused of and he bit at his lip even now as he stared at a picture of Aili and Sealand. So perfect did Sealand look with a baby in his arms, the same could even be said for Ladonia, but did that mean they were ready for the responsibility of a baby? Finland sighed to himself when his cellphone began chirping loudly from the kitchen and he closed the scrap boo placing it on the table next to him and he stood up casting a final look to his little daughter who was far too fascinated with the cause and effect of hitting her toys to notice him rushing from the room. He sprinted lightly to to the itchen snatching his phone up from the counter where it ha been plugged in charging. He briefly looed at the number on the screen that was flashing up at him and he slid his thumb against the screen and accepted the call. It was quiet for in the absence of his phone's chirping but as he raised the phone to his ear he cleared his throat be fore speaking. "Hallo! Tino Oxenstierna speak!"
"Hallo, Mr. Oxenstierna! How are you doing today? This is the office of Dr. Langai." THe voice was just as chirping as Finland's was and the tone was rather pleasant as the secretary shuffled some papers on her side of the phone while Finland made a humming noise of acknowledgement. "We just wanted to get in contact with you about some blood results of yours. You're STD results came back negative as always! Um, let's see here..." Finland waited patiently while the woman no doubt scanned the page then made a clicking sound with her tongue. "And as per protocol we ran a blood test for pregnancy for you. Now there's actually an appointment that needs to be made if that's alright with you?"
"Of course! What time and day?" Finland asked as calmly as he could while plucking a pen out of the cup they ept in the window sill while some part of him wondered curiously just why they had run a pregnancy test for him. Was that truly protocol with this office? He had been seeing the doctor since the beginning of his pregnancy with Aili but he never knew them to merely run blood tests for pregnancy for the hell of it and that's what had his palms sweating as he approached his calendar with his pen. Aili was his pride and joy, the true daughter of his heart, but if his pregnancy test is negative then surely it wouldn't be the end of the world. After all it had only been four months since he gave birth! Surely he couldn't become pregnant so easily? There was a part of him that was trying to rationalize this when the woman spoke up.
"Would January nineteenth at three thirty work for you?" The woman questioned which Finland confirmed rather quickly for he wanted to know, needed to know, just why he needed an appointment for himself. "And as for the results of your pregnancy test. Now we wanted to let you know that it is not unusual for circumstances like this to happen as human women can get pregnant again in little as three wees after the birth of a baby. As you are a Nation there are obviously extenuating circumstances that make you different from a human woman but that is why we made the appointment. , you're pregnancy test came back positive. You're pregnant."
Finland froze. His fingers felt stiff like frozen icicles clutching at his phone as he stared at the calendar before him sightlessly for a moment or two, unsure of what he was staring at when he blinked rapidly before laughing lightly. Incredulously. Of course there was extenuating circumstances because he was a Nation and of course the normal did not apply to him but did that really mean that after four months that he could be pregnant again? If it was possible for human women than was it possible for him? And how could it be possible? They used protection every single time! It's not like it was an 'oops the condom broke' situation for the condoms never broke. "Are you sure that my results didn't get mixed up with someone else's?"
"We're very strict about our blood samples, sir, so there's no possible way it was mixed up with another person. Doctor Langai would like to see you on the nineteenth to perform an exam and to tal with you further about this." The woman replied in a rather stiff manner, far from the casual even warm way she had been speaking before. It was as if his question had offended her very core and there was nothing to be done about it now that the question was out there. "You have a good day, alright?"
"Have a good day." Finland replied numbly as he hung up after hearing the click over the line and placed his phone back on the counter then tossed the pen onto the table, not really caring where it landed or if it rolled onto the floor and rushed back to the living room where Aili finally let out a high pitched squeal as he waled into the room. She had grabbed one of her toys yanking the rattle downwards making the arch crumple in on itself as she chewed viciously on the rattle when her mismatched eyes glanced up at the Finnish man as she chewed on the rattle. It was hard to believe that at four months old Aili was going to be a big sister. That is if this pregnancy sticks. Aili released the rattle then giggling when the arch popped right up into place above her once more. He couldn't think. He couldn't breathe.
He heard the steps on the stairs but he couldn't bring himself to call out to his husband, not yet, not until he wrapped his mind around it. Pregnant. Him. He looed at Aili sightlessly for a moment or two before his hands reached out numbly to grab the scrap book to place in his lap once again with the few final pictures that rested between the pages. A picture of Aili, a newborn, in the arms of a hesitant looking Ladonia. How lovely he looked with a baby. Finland's mind was still running ragged circles around the news while the forefront of his mind focused on getting the pictures into the clear sleeves and then figuring out dates and times to pen in but the news continued to swell in his mind. It was hard to forget news like that and before long his husband was sitting on the arm rest next to him leaning over to kiss the top of his head and Finland smiled as he accepted the kiss from his husband delightedly. "How did the talk go?"
"It went well. They seem to understand just what it is that you wanted to convey to them." Sweden replied as his breath ruffled the soft blonde locs as he placed another kiss to the top of Finland's head before looking down at the pictures he was carefully sliding into place then smiled as Finland closed the book placing it on the table next to him. "I'm glad the scrap book is going well. You'll have to take more pictures because before you know it Aili will be off to college. Then we'll have to have another baby." Finland laughed out at this but the touch of hysteria to his tone was not missed by Sweden who pulled back from Finland and tilted his head. "Whatever's the matter?"
Finland looed over at the scrapbook for a moment as he considered his words as Aili grunted quietly from the floor as she reached upwards for her toys then let out a screeched as she grabbed the toy above her head tugging it down towards her mouth. She stuck the toy and most of her fingers into her mouth as she chewed rapidly on the digits and item when her eyes flickered over to her mother's and a little smile graced her gooey lips as she wriggled her legs in delight, her little toes curling. Finland adored his daughter more than anything and he adored her the best of all and yet there was something in his heart that felt rather guilty for getting pregnant so soon after having Aili. Was it right? Was it wrong? Oh he just didn't know! He looked away from his daughter chewing on his lip for a moment before deciding that now was the time to answer his husband before the silence dragged out too long. "Oh nothing more than I'm pregnant. "
The silence reigned over both men as they stared at their daughter releasing the toy once more with boredom as she chewed on her fingers lazily and her little feet kicked up into the air with some kind of hidden joy to her movements as her multicolored eyes flicked around curiously before landing on Finland again. Aili wasn't the type to whine or whimper but she held her hands up towards Finland with a quiet whimper on her lips and he stood out of the chair leaving Sweden behind him as he stepped forward sweeping the girl up into his arms. He began quietly shushing the girl in Finnish which seemed to calm the girl which cut off her quiet whimpers and she chewed on her fingers staring up at her mother, green-blue and violet eyes shimmering sweetly. "You're pregnant?"
The sound of Sweden's voice made Finland flinch as he turned back towards his husband, the baby in his arms sighing throuhg her tiny nose as if she was over the theatrics of the moment and Finland had to admit he didn't want this to be a big thing. He bit his lip as he stared at his husband who was staring at him with a surprised expression on his normally stoic face and he found himself swaying back and forth slowly as he looked at his husband. He released his lower lip, opening his lips to speak but finding it rather hard to when his throat seemed to be closing in on itself as he rocked the four month old as she grisled lightly as if unhappy with the silence between her parents. Then Finland coughed lightly to clear his throat as he continued to lightly sway side to side, looking down when he noticed Aili's blonde lashes flutter to a shut as her rosey lips parted in a perfect little O as she yawned and rubbed at her eyes with her dimpled hands clumsily and only then did he speak again. "I'm...I'm pregnant. I don't know when it happened or how it happened but it's the truth. The doctors just called and told me."
"Ho-How is it possible? I thought the recommended age to wait for another baby was at least a year before having another child." Sweden got out in a thick tone as he looked at their yawning daughter and Finland turned strapping her into her bouncer and began lightly bouncing her as she blinked sleepily up at her mother figure. It was a rather unimpressed expression on her little face but in a matter of minutes the baby's lashes fluttered to a shut and remained that way as Finland continued to lightly bounce the baby in her little bouncer and turned to face his husband. "Well I guess the first matter of business would be me to ask this so don't react too horribly." Finland tilted his head and his husband cleared his throat. "Do you want to keep the baby?"
"Of course I do!" Finland snapped in a surprisingly defensive tone as he pressed his hand against his flat belly and he felt his face flush at the sound of his own voice sounding so angry, so defensive. He hadn't even thought twice about whether he wanted the baby or not, couldn't process whether he wanted another baby or not but something about...about killing his husband's baby just didn't settle right on his spine. It sent chills down it. He wasn't greedy, knew better than to be that way, but when would they ever have a second chance at another child? Aili was a miracle as is! While it was not viewed upon lightly as it would be strenuous on his body four months after giving birth he knew he had nine months to rest up his strength. He pulled his hand away from the bouncer as Aili continued sleeping like a delicate little doll. "I don't- I just- It doesn't seem right. I mean, when are we ever going to get this chance again?"
"We're not teenagers like Ladonia and Sealand. We're not indecisive but we have to know what we can handle and I don't know if two infants can be handled under the same house! Three if you count Aili which I do!" Sweden took a breath then rubbed his fingers up underneath his glasses and he did it so vigorously that Finland found his teeth worrying at his bottom lip as he stared at his husband who dropped his hand from his eyes but adjusted his glasses. He then stood up to his full height and approached the Finnish man while holding his hands out for the Finnish Nation to take which he did. "Tino, it's not an all or nothing situation. I understand that you want to keep this pregnancy and I won't persuade you for an abortion but you have to think here and now what this would put on your body. You just gave birth four months ago. It wasn't the most ideal birth but it was a birth that was strenuous on your body and now you're pregnant again? Think about it, Tino."
"I would never kill a baby of ours!" Finland replied acidly as he looked at the worried expression on his husband's face and he took a stuttering breath to look down at their peacefully sleeping daughter in order to calm himself as he squeezed Sweden's hands. "I just...It'll be okay. I can handle it." He then released one of Sweden's hands to reach up and cup his cheek carefully with a small smile on his lips. "Don't you think I can handle it? Don't you want another baby?"
"Not while we have a baby! Tino, you're not listening to me!"
Finland ripped his hand away from his cheek feeling a burst of agony that twisted fiercely inside of him and he looed up at his husband's face feeling tears welling in his eyes."I am listening! This is about you wanting to kill our baby and start over later! Don't you think this is a miracle? Just lie Aili was! This is a second chance at having another child! I KNOW I can handle it, Berwald! Can't you put some faith into me? Into what I can or can't handle?" He then squeezed the remaining hand tightly making the Swedish Nation look down for a moment before looking bac up at Finland's face. "The doctor made an appointment with me. If she says that I should abort, if it's for the best rather tha nfor the worst, than I'll do it, okay? If it negatively impacts my health or proves to be that way then I'll be a good boy and listen to the doctor."
Sweden sighed as he looked into Finland's face, at the joy that was radiating out of it and he couldn't help but feel old. Like he was some kind of old man looking to scold a younger person and he felt like his scoldings would do nothing for his husband. He had to admit that the thought of another child had never crossed his mind and he had been rather happy with Aili in their lives but strangely enough Finland was eager for another baby. So eager for another chance to be a mother that he would put his body through hell and bac in order to provide another child to their small family. A child that would no doubt hurt Finland on the way out.A child that would put strain on his body that was already seeming so fragile after the birth with Aili. He wasn't afraid tht Finland would die but he was afraid that this child would leave him frailer than he had ever seemed before and he was worried about the health of the child that was little more than a clump of cells in there right now. Cells that were eagerly fanning out to grow larger in the upcoming months. Aili snorted delicately in her sleep as though there was something disdainful or even hilarious about the situation that she had to voice outwards and btoh parents turned their attention to the four-month-old instinctively. When the child remained asleep there was a breath of relief but the tension continued to tighten Sweden's shoulders as he looed down at his husband who was smiling softly up at him now with a warmth in his violet eyes that was all too familiar.
"It'll work out, just you see." Finland murmured to the Swedish Nation as they began to sway back and forth together like he was a child Aili's age that needed soothing and the Swedish Nation moved with his husband in a little circle as they continued to sway. It was almost lie dancing with no music but the only difference was Finland coaxed Sweden's head down to his shoulder with a quiet murmur of Finnish language that the Swedish Nation was yet to catch but allowed his head to rest on his husband's shoulder. He felt the strangest, strongest urge to cry. Whether it be out of fear or out of anguish he had no clue but the tears burned in his eyes as he shut them and turned his face from his husband's glowing one. He just couldn't help but worry not only for his husband but now for a baby that was thrown into the mix. Did he not see how irresponsible it was? Did he not see how it would torment them later on? Or was Finland purposefully closing his eyes? He didn't know but the sickening feeling roiled in his stomach as he swayed back and forth in his husband's arms hoping for the best. Hoping, hopng, hoping.
