_Chapter 13_

Previously, On JUST ANOTHER DIMENSIONAL ACCIDENT (Or, you know, JADA):

"Okay, everyone listen up! It's time to start the mission briefing," Nightwing said, scanning over his audience. "Wait, where did Elle go?"

"—for the last time Bart, sTOP STEALING MY CHICKEN WHIZEES!" Jaime yelled exasperated.

Bart held up his hands in a placating gesture, "It wasn't me this time, I swear! It was Zoey!"

Both of them glanced over at Zoey, who was innocently munching on some Chicken Whizees.

"Want some?" Zoey said, her mouth half full, as she offered the bag in their direction.

Jaime simply facepalmed.

"Don't mind if I do!" Bart grinned, taking some for himself.

Despite the lighthearted conversation, there was a nervous energy in the air among the team members present in the Watchtower. At the corner of Zoey's eye, she saw Tim slip away from Cassie's side. She looked up to see Batman and Green Arrow leaving the meeting of the Justice League. No other members filed out after them except Black Lightning.

As Cassie called out to Tim, Zoey zoomed over to Batman, just as he finished talking with Black Lightning.

"—I want nothing to do with Batman Incorporated." Black Lightning said, before walking away from Batman.

"Wait, are you leaving the Justice League?" Zoey asked, her mouth agape, "What about your promise to me?"

"It is no longer beneficial for me to remain in the Justice League," Batman intoned, "and I intend to keep that promise, I will fulfil that mission."

Zoey felt as though as she had taken a punch from Superboy in the stomach. She staggered a step back, her eyes lit up in fury.

"It's been two years, Batman!" Zoey's voice shook, "I'd thought I'd be home by now, but instead Elle's been missing for two years! Every search party, every hint of intel and the World's supposedly best detective on the case and sill it all leads to nothing! And now you're leaving me?"

Tears were streaming down her face at this point. The silence in the watchtower was deafening as all gazes were directed towards the two. Batman placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Just because I am leaving the League, doesn't mean I am abandoning that case. I want to see Elle back as much as you and to see you two sent home safely," Batman paused, his voice was sympathetic—well as sympathetic as Batman's voice could be, "However, you to realize that it's been two years. A lot can happen in two years. I know it's not easy but…"

"Y—you think she's dead?" Zoey demanded.

"I don't want to jump to conclusions, but whatever we find, know that we're all here for you." He said, patting her shoulder once more before turning around to leave. As his form disappeared into the Zeta Tubes, Zoey bent over, sobbing.

She felt the strong, comforting embrace of Bart's arms wrapped around her. She was upset, no doubt about it, but Bart's presence definitely helped to soothe her a bit. Jaime followed behind, nowhere near as fast as the infamous speedsters, and placed an arm on Zoey's back.

"Would you like to go on a walk with me and Bart? We can walk around Happy Harbor, buy some food, and get your mind off of things," Jaime suggested.

Zoey nodded, tears still running down her splotchy red face. "That wasn't something I'd thought of in a while."
