Jack hated fire with a passion. Which was understandable since he was the Spirit of Winter. And it wasn't just fire. Anything that was hot really. Like hot chocolate. Jack still remembered how bad the hot chocolate Jingle spilled on him had burned. *Refer to Chapter 18.*
But Jack didn't just hate it. He feared it. He feared it more than he feared to be alone again, even though Jack knew that the Guardians would never let that happen again. He feared it more than he had ever feared anything in his entire life.
All spirits of Winter-origin did. Because fire was their one weakness. Sure, they had power over snow, ice, hail, frost, etc. but fire could easily melt it all away. Fire could melt them away.
Jack may have been the strongest Winter being of them all, but even he wasn't immune to fire. In fact, Jack was more affected by fire than any other living being. Mortals and fellow Winter beings could recover, but whenever Jack came into contact with fire, the burns never healed. They left scars that stayed with him forever.
And when the Guardians found out, they weren't happy about it, to say the least. North practically dragged Jack to the infirmary so the yetis could see what they could do. Unfortunately, they soon discovered that Jack was right; the burns couldn't heal. None of Bunny's herbs or healing gels could do anything either, nor could Sandy's dreamsand. They called in Mother Nature, but she just told them the same thing Jack had told them.
"Guys, it's okay…." Jack tried to reason. The tears in Tooth's eyes told him she wasn't buying it. Jack shrugged. There wasn't anything anyone could do. "I have to say, I'm touched to see you guys care so much."
"Of course we do, numbskull," Bunny stated as he smacked the top of the boy's head.
"Kangaroo."
"Drongo."
"Thumper."
"Bludger."
"What on earth is a bludger?"
