Told you I'd be back albeit a little late. Was gonna watch the movie again but it's packed *sighs*. I'll just insert random commentary about different scenes that I liked. I assume you guys have watched the movie, mainly because you probably wouldn't know about ROTG fanfiction if you hadn't. So I'll just say what scene the Guardians watched and what they had to say about it. This will be a little long.
Something had been bugging Jack for a few months, but with the kidnapping and that craziness with Old Man Winter, he'd completely forgotten. Now that he had some time to himself (and to his thoughts) Jack couldn't get the question out of his head.
Back when Jamie had introduced him to the wonderful world of fanfiction, he recalled something interesting that the young believer had said.
"It's called fanfiction. There's these two cool websites, and Wattpad. And since your movie came out-"
"What movie?" Jack interrupted. Jamie shook his head. He'd have to let Jack borrow it sometime.
"Anyways, there's a ton of stories about you guys. A lot of authors. Like KitkatDragonLover. She's not the best, but she's written four or five stories on you guys. I think she's a little crazy, but the stories are cool. You should check them out," Jamie said.
Jack may have gotten a little distracted with the fanfictions, especially the ones written by the 'Author' (as North called her), and had forgotten about the mention of a movie. A movie about them. If Jack wanted to find out more about it, he had to visit Jamie before some terrible catastrophe happened that would last 5+ chapters and caused him to forget. Again.
"What do ya mean by that?!" Bunny exclaimed. "How did this even happen?"
"I guess some relative of Jamie's came over and the kids talked all about us, which is apparently all they ever do because why not? He turned out to be some Hollywood movie maker. Or something like that. And then the Rise of the Guardians movie was born!" Jack did a little jazz hands thing before plopping down on the couch in North's media room.
"We might as well watch, my friend," North clapped a hand on Bunny's back, knocking him down next to Jack.
*First scene with Jack and his monologue*
No one said anything at first. Jack ran a hand through his hair nervously before clearing his throat. "That was surprisingly accurate. And way more depressing than I remember"
"That makes it even worse, Jack." North hadn't realized how confusing that must have been for the Winter Spirit with no one, not even Manny, to help and guide him in the scary new world. He was basically an infant who looked like a teenager.
Like his comrades, he had just assumed the boy was taken care of. He should have known better. They all should've known better.
"It was a long time ago," Jack could just tell that this movie was going to make his family guilty beyond belief. Especially when they got to that scene. For now, he'd just try to enjoy the movie. It was about him, after all.
*After the Burgess kids walked through Jack/Jack being chosen by Manny*
Bunny couldn't help but recall the Easter fiasco and how much it had hurt and surprised him to be run through by a child. It'd been so long since that had happened it had caught the Pooka off guard.
But Jack...he had to go through that every day for. Three. Hundred. Years. Bunny wasn't looking forward to that part when he and Jack fought. When he brought belief into it.
Jack didn't miss that look of remorse on the older Guardian's face. He smiled and mouthed 'it's ok'. The rabbit visibly relaxed and nodded before returning his attention to the screen. While Bunny wouldn't forget anytime soon how things had seemed to Jack, at least he'd be able to move on. Hopefully.
*Jack in a bag and tossed through a portal to North's/Attempted initiation/Bunny vs Jack*
Sandy had been against throwing Jack in a sac and tossing him through a magic portal. But North thought it'd be a good idea. And Bunny agreed, obviously, adding that it'd be a funny story.
So he just let it happen. He regretted the second he saw the poor boy's terrified and confused look in his eyes. The fear was so evident he thought Pitch might be drawn to the Pole by the scent alone. (Pitch can smell fear like a dog or something).
Sandy tried to help clarify to the best of his abilities, though without words Jack just couldn't understand. It did make Sandy's heart ache with a feeling he couldn't describe when the Winter Spirit bent down to his level. No of the others ever did that. It always made the golden man feel left out.
Which is exactly how Sandy imagined Jack felt after his fight with Bunny. Sure, North helped distract him with his center talk. That couldn't erase what happened.
Jack remembered that feeling, that lack of hope, and he felt comforted when Sandy grabbed him into a quick but meaningful hug.
*Tooth Palace/Mural/Memories*
Tooth nearly cried when she had to watch all of her fairies get kidnapped (which had left several of them with serious PTSD) again. Jack...he may have not been able to save all of them but he did rescue Baby Tooth.
That little fairy had grown so close to Jack. It always made the Fairy Queen wonder what had happened between the two when Jack took Sophie home.
She figured they'd get to that part later. Before that, Tooth couldn't help listening to Pitch and noticed how confused the teen looked. It must have been so overwhelming for him, especially when he realized he had a life before Manny chose him.
If she had known….known how lost Jack had been, how long he'd been searching for his purpose, she would have given him his memories from the start. It made her want to cry or hug Jack and never let him go.
Jack didn't like the tears gathering at Tooth's eyes. Once the movie was over, he was definitely gonna have to comfort her.
*Collecting Teeth/Races/Sandy vs Pitch*
Sandy had thought the race was a great idea. It was the perfect way to ease Tooth's worries, bond with their potential new Guardian, and just have fun. Which is why Jack probably started it.
It was fun, even after Jamie woke up. There was that brief moment when Jack couldn't be seen and even Bunny felt bad for him. Then there was the chase. Sandy tried to knock the dog out but ended up getting his fellow Guardians to sleep too.
If Jack had actually had a camera…..Bunny muttered something about getting payback when he saw what had caused Abby to pounce. Or is pouncing only for cats?
Seeing himself fight Pitch was what got to him the most. He hadn't realized just how devastated his temporary absence would make his friends.
Jack clenched his fist before unclenching it. The reassurance from North had helped, but he still had always blamed himself. Until Sandy gave him that look of love and an image of a heart. That eased the pain, the guilt, even if it was only a little.
*Easter Prep/Sophie*
Bunny hated to admit it, but Jack had been right. The Guardians were always holed up in their hideouts, thinking of new ways to con kids. And North's comment about not having time for children because they have to bring joy...to children….didn't help.
Though he still wasn't sure whether he liked that snowflake filled with fun or whatever, he did enjoy spending time with his favorite ankle biter (Sophie). And apologizing had felt great. Even if it wasn't nearly a good enough for all the things he said.
And it made him proud to see all his googies getting painted and for his friends to see how hard he works. He even got North to say that Easter was better than Christmas. Now that he had actual proof that the Russian said it, he'd have to make it his ringtone or something.
Watching Jack attempt to put the little girl to bed was pretty funny, at least to Bunny. The main thing that really interested the Pooka was the fact that they were getting closer to the part where Jack "betrayed" them. He wanted to see what happened. Really happened.
Jack knew that the Guardians knew he hadn't betrayed them, not intentionally. But he'd never gotten around to telling them what really happened. It was embarrassing, at least to him. Which is why he was so hesitant to watch the next part.
*Pitch's Lair/Taunting/Baby Tooth kidnapped*
North couldn't believe what he had just seen. Well, if the way Jack refused to make eye contact with him said anything, then he guessed he could believe it. The way the teen reacted to Pitch's taunts, his shouting no again and again.
It just about broke his heart.
And the Winter Spirit hadn't even wanted his memories, not when he knew that he might disappoint the Guardians. But then that traitor- no, ex-traitor. He had helped get Jack back.
North would still be having a few words with the Boogeyman, as his comrades surely would too. He rested his hand on Jack's shoulder, trying to get the boy's attention.
Said boy knew he couldn't hide from this. So he just smiled sheepishly and ran his hand through his hair. At least they knew. And at least Jack didn't have to to say it himself.
*Aftermath of Easter/We should never have trusted you*
Bunny felt like he'd been slapped in the face. After seeing what led to Jack getting a hold of his memories, he felt like the biggest jerk in the universe. For an alien rabbit**, that's saying something considering he knows just how big the universe something else.
Jack hadn't betrayed them. No, he was tricked. By Pitch. And Bunny had assumed the worst. What made things even more horrible was that fact that he had, for the briefest of seconds, raised his paw. Whether he would have actually hit Jack is another story. But the fact is...he had raised his paw against a child.
No matter how many times Jack said he forgave the Pooka, no matter how many times he was reassured, Bunny would have to live with the guilt and forever wonder whether he actually would have had he not been so hurt.
Jack seemed to know that there was some inner turmoil going through the mind of Bunny. He just hoped that one day he'd be able to find the right words to soothe the poor Pook's mind.
*Antarctica/Jack's memories*
Saying Sandy was upset when the Guardians turned their back on Jack and even more so when Pitch broke his staff was an understatement.
He was furious. How could his friends- okay, he could see their point of view but that didn't make things better.
But ignoring that, those memories of Jack with his sister helped quell his anger a little. Sure, he'd seen some of those memories (remember the first few chapters of this fanfic?) but the way Jack reacted to it, the confidence it gave him, that helped.
He never realized just how strong the white-haired boy was until Sandy saw him fix his staff. Maybe fix wasn't the right word.
Jack felt his face flush with embarrassment as the others gave him looks of admiration and pride. He'd just done what had to be done. He had to help the Guardians, help Baby Tooth, and belief in general.
*Jamie almost stops believing but Jack helps/Jack has a believer*
Tooth wanted to coo and aw when she saw what Jack said. Even though Bunny and him had their differences, Jack still helped save the Last Light aka Jamie Bennett. He could have just left, or taken Pitch up on his offer.
But he chose not to. He chose to help them. And he even earned a believer. Tooth couldn't have been prouder.
A small yet sad smile graced her face. If they hadn't assumed he was with Pitch, they could have been there for him. Been there to see Jamie believe in Jack instead of having to watch an incredibly accurate movie to find out.
Jack loved watching that scene. It still brought tears to eyes just thinking about how Jamie started to believe in him.
*Kids protect Guardians/Big fight at the end/Pitch afraid*
Being brought back to life, kind of, was a lot of work. See, Sandy had been in a state of nothingness so to speak. He existed, was still alive, but his energy was completely depleted. So he couldn't really do anything.
And the lack of believers certainly didn't help.
So when the Burgess kids used their belief to help restore his physical state and he was able to stop Pitch from hurting Jack, it had more of an impact on the others than Sandy originally thought.
Jack smiled as Pitch ran from his own Nightmares. It had to be one of the best things he'd ever seen. While it wasn't completely worth it, it did make his day. Scratch that. It made his year.
*Official Initiation/Epilogue*
Seeing how happy Jack looked, North couldn't help but smile to himself. Making Jack an official Guardian, because we know he was already one from the start, had to be one of the happiest days of his life.
And the way he comforted Jamie proved how much of a Guardian he was.
Jack was surprised at how accurate the movie actually was. Probably thanks to the Author. After they finished watching the movie, the Guardians may or may not have written several….unsavory letters to a certain Boogeyman.
Besides that, the only effect the movie had on the five beings was that they were all a little nicer, a little more understanding and sensitive to their favorite teenager.
AN: Okay with the way school is going I'll probably update once a week maybe twice if I'm lucky. I don't work much anymore so, hopefully, I'll have free time this weekend! Please please PLEASE review any and all questions towards any cannon or OCs mentioned in this story. Or any questions you want to ask me could work too. Won't be able to do a hundredth chapter without any. (Did I mention that the story will be complete after that?)
Also…when I put ** by rabbit (when Bunny is reacting to Aftermath of Easter/We should never have trusted you*) I first typed robot and almost posted this chapter with robot instead of rabbit. I thought it funny.
Kitkat Out!
