A Fresh Start

Chapter Twenty-Five

They were lying together asleep, Jeffrey on his back with Sam beside him, her head on his chest and arm across his waist. It is early Friday morning, when Sam's cell phone starts to ring. Rolling to her side, she blindly reaches for her phone while knocking Jeffrey's in the floor.

"Hello." She mumbles, as Jeffrey moves beside her.

"What is it?" He asks, reaching up to wipe the sleep from his eyes.

"Sam, this is Dr. Frost?"

"Yes sir. Is there an emergency?"

"No, but I just read your letter. You're resigning, effective immediately."

"Yes sir, it's time I moved on."

"I thought you like working here. I know you've been involved with this new guy and I did have some suspicion that you would be leaving, but immediately."

"My reasons for leaving immediately are not because I haven't enjoyed working at the center, I have. But I feel that it's time for a change and I want that to start as soon as possible." Sam says, sitting up. "I hope you can understand that."

"What about your patients?"

"My patients can be turned over to another doctor. Richard was released and he was the main reason I stayed on when my enlistment was over. It's time I moved on."

"I am assuming that you sent this letter to the director."

"Yes, I emailed him a copy last night."

"He's not going to like this."

"I'm sorry but I'm not really worried about whether he likes it. I have to do what's right for me. And it's time I moved on."

"Would you at least consider staying until we find someone to take your place?"

"I'll consider it, but I have to talk it over with Jeffrey." Sam says, watching as he gets up and goes into the bathroom.

"At least I'll be able to tell the Director that?"

"As long as you make it clear that it's only until you can find someone to replace me. And that I won't wait forever, if we decide that it's okay."

"Alright." Dr. Frost says, as his other line starts to buzz. "I have another call. Let me know your decision."

"I will."

"Okay."

They hang up and Sam puts her phone down on the nightstand, picking Jeffrey's off the floor as he comes back into the room from the bathroom.

"Who was that?" He asks, lying down beside her again.

"Dr. Frost."

"Why is he calling you? You were given the day off."

"I know. he called about the letter of resignation I left on his desk last night."

"Is he trying to talk you out of leaving the agency?"

"No, he sort suspected that it would come. No, he wants me to reconsider resigning immediately." Sam says, looking at him.

"Immediately, you told them it was effective immediately!" Jeffrey says with surprise, rolling to his side to face her.

"Yes, I'm ready to move on." She says, looking down at him.

"Oh!" He says, reaching for her hand.

"You do know that I do want to do this?" Sam asks, lying down beside him.

"Yes, I do. I'm just surprised that you're accepting this so easily. It's not like you to embrace change so quickly."

"Maybe I learned something from the last twelve years." Sam says, moving to her side.

"Sam…."

"Maybe, I realize that you can't waste time because you never know when your life will change and you will lose the things that you hold dear."

"Are you afraid that if you don't do this immediately that it won't happen or that I won't be there when you get to Springfield?"
"Maybe a little bit." She says, looking over at him. "I know we waited before and look what happened. We lost each other."

"Beca, there is nothing wrong with wanting to grab the moment, and there is nothing wrong with taking the time to make sure you do the things you need to do." Jeffrey says, lifting her chin so he can look into her eyes.

"Are you saying you don't want me to resign immediately?"

"I'm saying that if there are things that you need to take care here, before you come to Springfield, then take care of them and I'll be waiting for you when you get there."

"I love you." She says, moving to kiss him.

"I love you too, and I'm not going anywhere. I'll be in Springfield and we'll be together. We'll grow old together."

"Are you sure you want to do that?" Sam asks, moving to lie against him. "You know I might be one of those women that smell like boiled water, that's crotchety and cranky with no teeth." She says, folding her lips into her mouth.

"Teeth or no teeth, if you smell like roses or boiled water, although I hope you smell like roses…." He says, as she slaps him "crotchety and cranky, I will love you anyway."

"Are you sure about that? My Gran could be pretty crabby sometimes."

"I'll have to be crabby back, won't I?" Jeffrey says, moving to kiss her.

"Ummm, I don't know if I can handle you crabby, if it's anything like you are without…."

"Don't say it. I'm not crabby without that." Jeffrey says, looking down at her, sounding a little crabby. "I can do without sex. I've done it many times."

"I was going to say coffee, but now that you mention it, there's that too. I'm not sure really old people still do that."

"Well, I hope they do. Because there's not a day that goes by that I don't want you." Jeffrey says, leaning over to kiss her.

"When you put it that way. How can I resist?" Sam says kissing him again and this time taking control of the kiss as she moves to straddle him.

"I like the way you're thinking." Jeffrey says, pushing her up.

Slowly running his hand down her body, caressing her. He stops at her breast, playing with them while she sighs softly, bending her fingernails she scratches her way down his chest until she leans over him, bracing her hands at his shoulder. She lightly kisses him before she moves on to his neck, kissing and nibbling until she reaches his ear.

"You know, we still have the bottle of chocolate syrup." She says, nibbling on his ear.

"We don't need it." Jeffrey whispers, reaching down and softly caressing her stomach and outer thighs. "But we can bring it with us?" He says, slipping his hand between her thighs.

"J" She moans when he touches her.

Leaning over, she lays little kisses across his upper chest and neck as he slips a couple of fingers inside her, his thumb strumming against her desire. She feels her body closing around him, sucking him deeper.

"I love the way you feel." He sighs"

"How do I feel?" She whispers, playing with his nipples.

"You're warm, Beca." He sighs, his fingers slipping deeper inside her, finding the special place deep inside.

"J, please!" She moans, throwing her head back while she moves lower, straddling him as she rocks back and forth rubbing their bodies together.

"Beca!" He groans, feeling her surrounding him "Oh that feel so good." He says, pulling his hands away, and wrapping his arms around her waist, holding her against him while she continues to rock. She continues for a few minutes and then she stops, looking down at him. "Beca, please!" He groans, moving against her hips

She watches him. Watches how his eyes fade to a light green. She listens to how his breathing has become ragged with desire. She feels the strength in his arms, holding her tightly while he moves against her. He can't move a lot but even the slightest caress makes her hot for him. Leaning over, she kisses him.

Breaking the kiss, she looks up at him while she lightly runs the tips of her fingers down his chest moving from his upper chest to his lower chest and abdomen and then lower, closing her hand around him, holding him as she listens to his breath catch and then become even more ragged as she caresses him.

"Sam!" he groans, arching his hip, pressing against her hand.

She smiles as she runs a nail from the tip of his erection down to the base and back again, sighing when she feels him begin to quiver.

"Beca, I'm going to loose it, Baby." He gasps, closing his eyes while he fights for control. Leaning over him, they kiss as she moves up, holding him as she guides him inside her. "Beca!" he gasps, when he feels her closing around him, taking him deep inside.

His hands fall her hips, holding her against him for a few seconds, as he looks up and see the sparks of satisfaction flash in her eyes. She slowly rocks, sliding back and forth as he begins to thrust against her. He can't do a lot, but it's enough to pull a moan from deep inside her.

"Ummm, yes Beca. I like that." Jeffrey groans, feeling her body closing around him, listening to the sound of her satisfaction.

"I wanna make you feel it all." Sam whispers, leaning over and kissing him before she braces her hands against his chest and slowly begins to rise and fall, taking him as deeply as she can, holding him before she pulls away.

"That's it Beca, oh baby, yes!" He hisses, feeling her closing around him as he closes he eyes.

"OH!" She gasps as he brushes against that special place deep inside her. "I feel you darlin." She whispers, repeating what she had just done.

"Sam!" He shouts, feeling desire flooding him and then her.

Sitting up, he wraps his arms around her. Rolling over onto her back, he kneels between her legs and begins to thrust. Hard, almost like he's trying to become apart of her body, looking down into her eyes for a couple seconds before they fall closed in ecstasy he see how close to the edge she is. Bracing his hands on either side of her, he leans over deepening their pleasure as he slips deeper inside her. After a few seconds, he leans over and whispers. "It's okay Beca, let go."

The moment he finishes speaking, he feels her body clinging to his while he continues to thrust. "J!" She screams, feeling the waves of desire spread over her. She is close to the end of her release when he feels the tension inside him break again, washing over him while he holds himself, buried deep inside her, filling her with love again before he relaxes, laying down on top of her as she wraps her arms around him, relishing the feel of his weight against her body.

For a couple minutes they lay there, holding each other, until they are able to part without feeling like they have lost a part of themselves. Lying on his side, he watches her, loving the way her hair is tasseled and she has no make up on, but to him she is the most beautiful lady in the world. Leaning over, he kisses her softly before he whispers. "You are beautiful."

She looks over at him. Smiling, she kisses him as they move closer together. "You are too."

"I don't know if a man can be beautiful." Jeffrey says, putting and arm across her waist

"To me you are." She says, looking over at him. They lay there for a couple seconds before she rolls to her side, facing him. "When does our flight leave?"

"Around five." Jeffrey replies.

"Then I need to go back to my apartment and get some more clothes."

"Okay." He says, leaning over and kissing her before he gets up. She watches him walk across the room, admiring the flow of his body and feeling a tiny spark of desire run through her as she sighs softly and he turns to look at her. "You know, we can take a shower together, save on time and water." He says, leaning against the wall separating the bedroom from the bathroom and sink area.

"Would a shower be all we actually do?" She asks, sitting up.

"I don't know." He replies, shrugging his shoulders. "Maybe, maybe not." He says, with a half smile of invitation while he holds out his hand.

Getting up and walking around the bed, she slips her hand in his and follows him into the bathroom. Turning the water on, he adjusts the temperature to what she likes before he helps her in, pulling the curtain behind them after he steps in. Leaning back against the wall, he watches her.

Stepping back, she lets the water run over her, wetting her hair while her eyes run down his body, watching him respond. "That quickly." She says when her eyes settle at his hips and he takes a step towards her.

"It's always been that easy with you." He says, taking a step closer to her and wrapping and arm around her waist and pulling her against him, pressing her body against his erection. "Sam." He whispers, leaning over he kisses her for a couple seconds before he steps back. Reaching for the shampoo bottle, he squeezes some into his hand before rubbing them together as she turns around. He begins to wash her hair, gently massaging her scalp while he does. Closing her eyes, she sighs softly as she steps back against him, leaning against him as the water washes over her breasts and stomach, the heat warming her and she feels herself begin to relax. After a couple minutes, he turns her around, kissing her as they both step under the spray, rinsing the shampoo from her hair.

When it's gone, he steps back. Reaching for the conditioner bottle, he squeezes a little bit into the palm of his hand and again rubs them together before he smoothes it over her hair, running his fingers through to work out some of the tangles, like he's seen her do before but being careful not to tug too hard. When he has most of the tangles worked out, he rinses his hands off before he reaches for the clip, twisting her hair up he clips it before he leans over and kisses her again.

Wrapping her arms around his waist, she steps closer to him. Her tongue slipping inside his mouth, caressing him, sighing he pulls her closer to him, holding her against him while they let the water rush over them, adding fuel to the fire already burning inside. Breaking the kiss and leaning back, she looks up at him. "I need you Beca." He whispers, leaning over to kiss her again.

They kiss for a couple seconds before she steps back and repeats what he just did to her. Reaching for the soap after they rinse the conditioner from his hair, she reaches for one of the wash clothes, rubs her hands together until its soapy and then she slips the soap into his waiting hands as her hands settle on his shoulders.

Running them across and down his arms, she washes every inch of skin she touches. When she finishes with arms, she moves on to his chest, rubbing slowly down to his belly button, slipping a finger inside as he shivers slightly and she looks up at him. "Beca." He whispers, as he drops the soap, looking down at her until she moves on.

Running her hands back up his chest, she stops for a few minutes, playing with his nipples before she moves on to his upper chest and under his arms. Stepping around him and running her hand over his back and buttocks. She feels him hold his breath as she moves around to his thighs, washing them and his lower abdomen before she moves on to the back of his legs. "Beca." He groans again, turning and reaching for her hand before she moves on and she kisses him on his lower abdomen, a light kiss, no more than a brush of her lips across his skin.

Slowly she moves down his leg, bracing his hands against the shower wall, he lifts one foot, letting her wash it before she moves on to the next one. He looks down, watching her as her eyes slowly travel up his legs. He feels ripples of desire wash over him when she stops at his hips and slowly she runs her tongue along her lips before she looks up at him.

"What do you want?" He asks, as she moves closer to him. Softly kissing the tip of him, before she slowly runs her tongue around him "Oh god! Beca." He groans, pressing against her mouth, silently begging her to take all of him. Opening her mouth, she lets him slip inside; caressing him while he feels his legs begin to tremble. "Beca!" He groans, as he thrusts.

She stays with him right up to the point of release and then she releases him, lightly kissing the tip of him before she reaches up, washing him before she stands up and hands him the wash clothe. He stares at her for a couple seconds, trying to regain control and a little shocked that she stopped. Leaning over, he kisses her, answering her challenge as he repeats everything she just did until he reaches her thighs.

Dropping the wash clothes, he slips his soapy fingers between her thighs. Caressing her while he washes her. "Oh! J" She moans, gripping his shoulders, her finger nails digging in as his fingers slide inside, caressing her, building the desire, rubbing his thumb against her. Looking up, he watches her, watches her body respond to him.

"You want it Beca." He asks softly, feeling her building to release.

"Yes." She cries, pressing her body against his hand.

He continues to caress her for a few seconds before pulling his hand away he silences her cry with a kiss as he backs her up against the wall, wrapping his arms around her, holding her against him before he bends his knees, lifting her. Wrapping her legs around his waist, he feels her wrapping her body around him, holding him against her desire.

"Sam." He groans, lifting her a little more and allowing his body to slip inside hers.

"J!" She groans. Wrapping her arms around his neck she clings to him as he begins to thrust. "Oh, you feel so good darlin." She whispers, laying her head back against wall and rolling her hips with his thrusts, taking him as deeply as she can. She feels her release building. Pushing against him for a few more seconds while he continues to thrust, she feels the tension inside her release, flooding her body.

"Beca." He groans, feeling her body closing around his, clinging to him, massaging his desire and pushing his need for release past the point of return. He feels the waves spread over them as he thrusts for the final time, pressing her against the wall.

After a few moments, he feels his body begin to weaken as the final waves of release wash over them. He slowly releases his hold on her, letting her legs slip to the floor as he lays his head against the shower. She lays her head against his chest, her warm breath feels cool against his skin. Turning his head, he kisses her neck and whispers. "I love you."

"I love you too." Sam says, holding onto him tightly.

When the water begins to run cool, Sam takes the wash clothe and quickly takes a shower. Rinsing off, he reaches around her and turns the water off as she leans up and kisses him.

"I love you." She whispers again.

"I love you too." He says, kissing her quickly as she steps back, pulling the curtain back, helping her out of the tub before he hands her a towel.

Ava and Olivia are sitting in Company having lunch, when Ava suddenly feels waves of nausea wash over her. "Excuse me." She says, getting up. She almost doesn't make it to the bathroom in time. She returns a couple minutes later.

"Are you okay?" Olivia asks, as she pushes her plate away, putting her napkin over the food.

"I'm fine, my stomach doesn't feel right." She says, taking a drink of water.

"What's wrong?" Olivia asks

"It's nothing. I've probably picked up a bug or something. I'll be fine." Ava says. "So how is the expansion on the Beacon going?"
"It would be going better if your father would return my calls and quit having his secretary forward my calls to the zoning commission."

"Why shouldn't he forward the calls to them? It seems like they would be the ones to handle it."

"He's brushing me aside just like he did in San Cristobel."

"He has the whole town to run and worry about? He's not ignoring you. He's busy."

"With Sam." Olivia says, sounding more than bitter.

"Possibly, but I don't understand, you were okay with break up at the press conference. Why are you making such a big deal about it now?"

"Because he belongs with me."

"Mom, you had a one night stand, a long time ago."

"That one night stand produced you."

"And I'm sure he appreciates that, but he's moved on. He loves…."

"I don't want to hear this." Olivia says, getting up and putting some money on the table

"You have to hear this. He loves her." Ava says, following Olivia out of the restaurant.

"How do you know that? You've never met her."

"I met her last weekend when she was here."

"You did, when?" Olivia asks, looking over at her

"At… Jon Bar. She was with him when he did a gig there. It was obvious that he loves her."

"He just met her, how can he possibly love her."

"I don't think he just met her. They've known each other for a while." Ava says, as they walk towards her car.

"How do you know that?"

"It's obvious in the way they are with each other." Ava hedges. "Look I know it hurts to see him with someone else, but wouldn't you rather see him happy."

"Would you rather see Mike with someone else?"

"Mike and I weren't together long enough for anything to really develop there."

"Alright, William then."

"The same thing, it was one weekend. I've got to get back to work, but think about what I said." She says, hugging Olivia before she opens her car door and gets in. She leaves a few seconds later with Olivia watching her drive away.

"No, I don't want to see him happy. I want to see him with me, again." Olivia says before walking to her car.

A couple hours later, Ava is sitting at her desk working when she notices the date and realizing she's about a week late she stares in shock at the calendar as Alan walks out of his office.

"Ava, I need you to fax this memo to the General Manger in San Cristobel."

The name San Cristobel brings Ava back from her shock. "I'm sorry, what did you say Sir?" Ava says, looking up at Alan.

"I need this memo faxed to the General Manager in San Cristobel. Are you okay?"

"I'm fine." Ava replies quietly, taking the memo and turning around in her chair to pull out a fax cover sheet.

"Then I'm going to go for the afternoon. When you finish those letters, put them on my desk and then you can leave for the day."

"Yes Sir." Ava replies filling out the cover sheet as Alan leaves the office.

An hour later, Ava lays the letters for Alan on his desk, grabbing her purse she leaves the office, locking the door before she walks down the hall to the elevator. Walking through the parking garage, her mind is on the date on her calendar and the fact that she is about a week late.

Getting in, she leaves Spaulding headed for the closest pharmacy on 5th street. Looking around to make sure no one is in the store that she knows, she walks over to the pregnancy aisle and picks up three pregnancy tests. Forty five minutes later, she walks into the lobby of the Beacon hotel. Olivia is walking out of her office when she walks into the hotel. "Ava." She calls

Stopping she turns to see her walking towards her. "Hi." She says. "I'm sort of in a hurry so what did you need?" She asks as Olivia notices the bag from the pharmacy on 5th street in her hand.

"Are you okay?" She asks, pointing towards the bag."

"I'm fine. I just stopped by the pharmacy to pick something up to settle my stomach. Did you need something?"

"No, I just wanted to make sure you were okay from lunch."

"I'm fine, if you'll excuse me." She says, walking up the stairs to her room while Olivia watches her wondering what that was about.

Opening the door to her suite, she closes and locks it. Dropping everything but the bag from the pharmacy she goes immediately to the bathroom. Opening the first box, she follows the directions to the letter.

Sitting the timer, she paces in front of it. Jumping when it finally goes off, she takes the box and compares the test to the box. Staring, she can't believe the results, picking up the next test she repeats the process for the next test and the final one; each test has the same results. Sitting down on the couch, she stares at the final test result.

"Oh my god! I'm pregnant." She whispers. "William! How do I tell him?"

Shortly after leaving a meeting with his advisors, Will's nanny meets William in the hall outside his office. "Your Highness." She says, bowing slightly.

"What is it Nancy?" He asks, walking into his office

"It's Will Sir, he's been complaining about not feeling well this evening. I just took his temperature Sir, and it's 102."

"Okay." William says, putting the papers in his hands on his desk before they leave the office. Nancy follows him as William asks. "Did he say what was wrong?"

"No, he just said he didn't feel good."

It takes about five minutes for them to reach the nursery. Will is in his bed when William and Nancy enter the nursery and Will's room.

"Hey buddy, Ms. Nancy says you're not feeling well." William says, noticing immediately that his skin was slightly yellow.

"I'm hot." Will says; as William puts his hand to Will's head.

"You are hot." William says, getting up. He draws Nancy out of Will's room.

"I want you to call the garage and have them, bring my personal car around. I'm taking him to the hospital."

"Yes Sir."

Nancy goes to make the call as he instructed while William pulls his cell phone from his pocket, dialing the number for Will's doctor

"Dr. Simon." William says, when the doctor answers.

"Yes, your Highness." He replies.

"Will has a very high fever and he's slightly jaundice, I'm going to take him to the hospital, could you met us there?"

"Yes sir." Dr. Simon replies. "I'll be waiting Sir."

"Thank you." William says, hanging up the phone before he goes back into Will's room.

"Okay, buddy. We're going to take you to the doctor so we can get you better." He says, pulling the covers back and helping him up so he can get dressed.

A few minutes later, Nancy returns. "Sir, the car is here." She says.

"Thank you Nancy." William says, picking Will up. "I don't want a word of this leaked, is that understood?"

"Yes Sir." She says, holding the door open as he walks out into the hallway with Will.

Walking through the palace, he doesn't see any of the usual servants or his assistant Jodie. Walking out, he puts Will in the car, buckling him in before walking around the car. Looking over the car, he says to Nancy. "Remember, do not say a word."

"Yes Sir."

Getting in, he starts the car and then pulls away from the palace. Driving through the capital, he holds Will's hand and even it feels hot.

"We're going to make you all better." He says, as Will turns his head and looks at him.

His skin looks to be more jaundice than it was when they were in the nursery. Pulling into the basement, he parks and then gets out. Walking around the car, he opens the door and picks Will up. Locking the car after closing the door, he heads for the elevator.

When the elevator arrives, He pushes the button for the royal family's private floor and then steps back, holding Will. A few minutes later, the doors open and William steps off the elevator. Dr. Simon's is waiting with a gurney. Laying him down, William follows him into the exam room. The doctor does a quick evaluation before he turns to William.

"Your Highness, could we go out in the hall?" Dr. Simon's says, walking over to the door, with William following behind him

"I'll be right back, buddy." William says, looking over his shoulder at his son. Will nods as William walks outs of the room "Can you tell me anything? Is it his liver?"

"I won't know for sure until I run some tests. He is jaundiced and that could be a sign that his liver is shutting down again, but we won't know for sure until we get his levels back. I'm ordering a series of blood tests, first to see if he has the virus he had before or if his liver is truly shutting down. We'll know more once we get the results back. I'm going to admit him to be safe."

"Okay."

"I'll send the nurse in to draw some blood."

"Okay, thank you Doctor."

William goes back into the room, sitting down beside Will's bed. He watches him sleep for a couple of minutes before he wakes up, turning his head, he smiles at his father as the nurse walks in.

"Excuse me, Your highness. I'm here to draw some blood."

"Yes." William says, getting up and letting the nurse close to Will's bed.

The nurses talks to Will as she preps his arm for the needle and Will talks with her. Telling her about being with Cassie and school. After a couple minutes the nurse says as she reaches for the butterfly. "Okay sweetie, you're going to feel a little stick." Will starts to look down at his arm, but she stops him "Why don't you look at your Daddy?" She says, nodding towards William, drawing Will's attention away from the stick. "Okay, all done." The nurse says after a few seconds. She drew a couple vials of blood.

Looking over at her, Will watches her label the vials. "Is all that mine?"

"Yes." The nurse replies, putting the vials on the tray.

"Did you take it all?" Will asks, thinking that the vials held all the blood in his body.

"No sweetie, you have a whole bunch more than that." She says, brushing his hair back.

"Oh, okay." He says, as the nurse looks up at William.

"I'll give these to the lab and Dr Simon told them to rush the results."

"Thank you." William says, walking back around the bed.

A couple of hours later, Dr. Simon's comes back into Will's room. "Your Highness." He says. Will fell back to sleep within a few minutes after the nurse left the room and he has been asleep ever since. Getting up, William follows Dr. Simon's out into the hallway.

"So, what's going on Doctor?" William asks, when the door closes behind them.

"We have the results from the blood tests and they show that his liver enzymes are elevated. Now whether it is because he's caught a virus and he's trying to fight it off or that his body is starting to reject his liver. It's too soon to tell. We'll monitor him, and will start him on a round of antibiotics to kill the infection. I would suggest that you contact his mother, just in case we need…."

"You think he's rejecting the liver transplant." William asks, looking the doctor in the eye.

"Sir, I warned you that this was a possibility after you explain the procedure that was done when His Highness was an infant. Giving a child an adult liver, it was highly likely that he would start to reject the liver eventually."

"What do we do?"

"We'll monitor his condition as I said, and put him on antibiotics. I would suggest contacting his mother."

"Yes, doctor. Thank you." William says, shaking the doctor's hand before he leaves. Looking through the door, he watches Will sleep for a few seconds before he pulls his cell phone out of his pocket and dials Cassie's number.
