Chapter 42

Emmett POV

"Will you marry me?" she asked, her voice a quivering whisper.

I knelt down in front of her, massaging her shoulders comfortingly as I tried to figure out what was wrong with her.

"Baby, yes I'll marry you—you should've figured that out babe….but what's wrong?" I asked gently.

"Please don't leave me." she sobbed quietly.

I was at a loss, unable to form words with my tongue going numb. "Why would you even say that?"

She looked at me, big tears rolling out of her eyes, "I was getting a little suspicious about why you were sneaking around, meeting with your dad and brothers without me around—leaving me in the house or going into another room to discuss things.

I suddenly felt awful for keeping things from me, and I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair as I tried to unstick my tongue from the roof of my mouth.

"Rose, I would never leave you." I said solemnly.

She looked at me uncertainly as her lip quivered and her hands held her swollen stomach. "I just didn't know what else to think with all of this. I mean, you're a really good looking guy, and I'm less than average if you'd stop and think about it."

I surged forward, grasping her by her shoulders to bring her into a fierce hug, "You are the most beautiful woman I have ever met, both inside and out. I don't give a damn if someone else doesn't think so, you're mine, and that's what matters. And baby," I added, wiping a tear from her eye. "I would never cheat or leave you. I was looking for your birth parents, that's why I was being so weird, I didn't want you to find out."

She stilled, looking at me with eyes that suddenly clashed with a bit of anger, and then she smacked me with both hands, as hard as she could.

I looked at her with a confused expression, "What was that for?"

"You're such a dick! Why couldn't you just tell me what you were doing, instead of going behind my back and making me think like that!" she snarled, pushing free of me and walking away.

"Where are you going?" I demanded, getting up to follow her.

"To make mac and cheese! I'm hungry!" she screamed, slamming the door in my face to try and halt me from going out of the room.

I sighed, trying not to laugh, she was damn feisty when she's pregnant.

But I loved her no matter what.

Even when she was craving mac and fucking cheese.

I pulled myself out of my stupor, still chuckling to myself as I followed my future wife as she fed her into her cravings.

I took the boxes from her, "Let me make it for you."

"Hell no, give me back my food." She snarled.

"Someone is definitely hangry!" I laughed, holding them up so she couldn't get them.

She stopped trying to reach them and looked as if she was about to cry again. I wrapped my arms around her, cuddling her close, "Please don't cry, Rose."

"Then cook my food instead of teasing me!" she whined.

I couldn't help a laugh that escaped me, which earned me another smack, this time to the ass that was stinging. She gave me a sharp smile as she walked away, sitting down at the table to watch me as I cooked for her.

But it wasn't but ten minutes later while the noodles were boiling that the cell in my pocket rang.

I pulled it out, glancing that it was my dad calling. I pressed to answer and put it up to my ear.

"Hello."

"We've contacted them, they would like to meet her."

Click.

My dad hung up, leaving a cryptic cliff hanger that made me look at my phone in confusion, Rose looked at me, worry etched into her face.

"What's wrong?" she asked hesitantly.

"My dad just said something about contacting someone, I guess he means your parents…and he said that they want to meet you." I said, looking at her as I slipped my phone back into my pocket.

She suddenly looked green, but swallowed thickly, "I feel like I'm going to be sick…but I don't want to waste my mac and cheese."

"We can always warm it back up."

She gave me a nasty look, "No that's gross."

I gave a laugh, but fell silent when she gave me another look.

"You're cranky today."

She smiled sweetly, "We're pregnant, honey. I'm moody, and hungry. We can meet these people after I'm done eating, warmed up mac and cheese is nasty."

"Anything you wish, when are we going to go to Vegas to get married?" I asked jokingly.

She looked up at me with a surprised look, "We don't even have to go that far, we can just get married in a courthouse instead of making a big deal, we can do it after the baby is born."

I looked at her, raising an eyebrow. "We're going to do this right. Our baby will be involved, and we're going to see if your parent want to come too."

Rose nodded slightly, "If the meeting goes well, sure…I just want our baby to get out of me alive."

"You're both going to be fine. We have your last couple of appointments coming up soon." I said happily, jumping a little from the sudden giddiness of looking down at her swollen tummy.

She smiled brightly, nearly glowing, "I want to find out what we're having next time if we can. The baby is never in the right position whenever we tried."

"Wouldn't it be funny if there was more than one baby?" I asked jokingly.

"No, it wouldn't be." She said, shaking her head as she thought about it.

But hey, shit happens, right?
