Neither mages nor the spirits were surprised when the monster stopped moving. Just as Reaper had suspected, there must have been people controlling the monster.

Lite was the first to move, shooting forwards with inhuman speed. Darque was in front of Reaper in a second, blocking a simple punch with her arm, which erupted into black flames. Lite hissed and leaped back. Darque flew after him. Lite jumped back again, dodging a fire infused kick to the head. The two spirits separated and leaped back to stand in front of their candidates.

The audience was quiet for a second before excited cheers and applause exploded from everywhere. What they didn't know was that the two sides facing off in the field were fighting to obliterate the other.

Lite crossed his arms. "Why don't we who has mastered the absolute magic we offered." He said. Rustyrose smirked. He raised his hand and a white swirling orb appeared. As it slowly grew bigger, the earth around his began to crack, as if it was being pushed away.

Reaper raised his own hand and created a swirling ball of black. The ground around his feet cracked as well, but the cracked pieces of earth began floating and flew into the black orb, as if being sucked in.

Once the orbs were around the sizes of their heads, both mages hurled it towards the other. The two orbs of black and white hurled towards the other, then suddenly stopped.

There was a pause, then the orbs exploded, followed by a tremendous explosion.

When the smoke cleared, the four were seen standing where they had been previously, not moving.

"White Hole magic and its counterpart, Black Hole magic." Makarov turned to Mavis Vermilion, who had once again appeared to watch the games.

Mavis nodded. "Those two are definitely Darque and Lite as I remember them." At Makarov's look of surprise, Mavis explained.

"I'm sure you know that the cycle occurs once every five hundred years." She said. Makarov nodded slowly. "Previously, I have been sought out by Darque, and was asked to help her. However, in the end, Darque decided to risk another restarting ritual." She said. "I'm also sure you know that each Spirit of the after life needs two candidates. If I were to join, I would have become her Lite representative." She paused. "The Darque representative candidate was Zeref."

Makarov froze. After a while, he asked. "But why did Darque not proceed with the cycle?" He asked.

Mavis smiled faintly. "Lite and Darque were previously human." She said. She then proceeded to tell him the story of the Night Tribe massacre. "Those two were very close before they were turned into spirits for an unknown reason." Mavis said. "One thing Darque doesn't know is that every time she performed the ritual, her memories are being taken. The memories of when she was a human."

"When she told me her story, she told me of how Lite had changed." Mavis said. "However, since she seemed to outright hate Lite now, I think it is same to assume that the memories of her relationship with Lite has completely vanished."

Lite smirked at Rustyrose's slightly bewildered expression. "Black Hole magic and White Hole magic are opposites." He said. "They canceled out each other."

Lite reached into his cloak and drew out his recruitment scroll. "You already found your five recruits?" He asked, though it was more of a statement. "I've decided on my Candidates, but you already know that." He said absentmindedly. He ran his fingers over the names on the scroll. "Jeez, you've already taken all the ones I wanted."

He rolled up the scroll and slipped it back into his cloak. He turned to glance at Rustyrose. "Stay out of this for a moment." He said. Rustyrose looked ready to argue but Lite ignored him, instead turning to Darque with a pointed look.

Darque glanced at Reaper, who nodded in understanding.

Lite flicked a marble into the air and snapped his fingers. The marble shot forwards with speed invisible to the naked eye. Darque formed a triangle with her hands and a black shield appeared in front of her. The marble hit the shield and clattered onto the floor.

Darque's legs turned into mist and she flew forwards. Lite leaped forwards to meet her and they clashed fists, Lite's reinforced with his ability to control movement which Darque's was enhanced with black flames.

A bit to the side, Reaper and Rustyrose were locked in a fight of their own. Rustyrose kept summoning things with his Arc of Embodiment magic, only for it to be sucked into the Black Holes Reaper kept summoning. It was obvious that Rustyrose was getting agitated.

Lite picked up one of the sharp pieces of earth that was lying on the ground and flicked it towards the Grim reaper, reinforcing the speed with his magic. Darque summoned black fire, which people could tell was very hot, as the piece of earth seemed to literally melt as it hit the wall of black flames.

Lite shot another marble towards the fire. The marble went much faster than before, the speed helping it blast through the shield of fire, hitting Darque's side.

Darque let out a gasp of surprise and leaped backwards to dodge another marble aimed at her.

Similarly to when a Celestial spirit was hit, something began leaking out of Darque's wound. Something being black smoke. A gaping hole could be seen on her side. Darque hissed and fire erupted around the wound, burning the wound close.

The fire also seemed to fix the hole in her clothes, until it looked as good as new. Well, as new as something could look with blood splatters covering it.

Darque raised her hand and a spear made of black ice formed in her grasp. She hurled it towards Lite who dodged it, catching Darque's smirk as he did so. He noticed a second too slow that the spear was not aimed for him, but for Rustyrose, who had been dodging Reaper's constant attacks.

The spear impaled the former Grimore Heart member's side. Rustyrose was thrown off balance, blood splattering the ground. Ice began to form over his side, slowly but surely spreading. Rustyrose collapsed and Lite hissed in annoyance before he burst into white smoke.

Reaper nodded at the Grim Reaper spirit and Darque flashed him a peace sign, which looked pretty creepy, considering the fact that Darque's face was completely bare of emotion. That was one of the side effects of the Battle form. After all, some opponents might see the emotions and take advantage of it.

When Reaper made no signs of retreating from the additional point maker, the monster's eyes flashed back to life. There was a blue flash as the magic barrier disappeared.

Reaper plopped onto the floor and stretched.
