Chapter THIRTY THREE
At the Grim Requiem stand, Cobra had just about managed to restrain Lucy from smashing her head against the wall. Sting was laughing so hard he fell off his seat and Midnight was muttering under his breath.
"So he's just going to sit there?" Lucy screeched.
Sting winced and clamped his hands over his ears. "Jeez Blondie, watch the ears."
Lucy whipped around to face the Light Dragon Slayer. "So you just want me to sit here and accept the fact that Jelly is just going to sit there and make a poor, helpless kid face off against a Wyvern look-alike?"
"I don't know about helpless." Cobra snorted. "And age wise, she's older than all of us put together."
Wendy, the peacekeeper as usual, held up her hands. "Well, maybe it's better for Darque to finish off the wyvern, as Jellal could slip with his attacks any moment?" She asked, sounding very unsure.
"Slip?" Sting asked.
Rogue sighed. "He may forget and use one of his signature moves." He said. "And once Fairy tail finds out that Reaper is Jellal, they might make a connection between Valkyrie and Lucy. That will make everything more complicated."
Sting nodded, but everyone could tell that he didn't get half of it.
Lucy sighed and slipped out of Cobra's grasp before sitting at the front row. "Well, I'm sure Darque'll win."
Reaper reached out with his fingers and magic strings attached themselves to Darque. He flicked his fingers and Darque followed the mental plan laid out in front of her.
The wyvern made its way towards the spirit, who sent a volley of ice shards towards it. The ice plastered itself onto the wyvern, slowing its movements and finally bringing it to a halt. It's eyes were still red, which meant the monster was still functioning.
As far as anyone could see, the wyvern was made of metal. Metal was a very good conductor and Darque had all elements under her command. When summoned, ready to do her bidding with the flick of a mental finger.
Darque reached out with both hands and a sphere of black water appeared from thin air. The sphere grew bigger as Darque's spread her hands. When the wyvern finally broke free from the ice, Darque hurled the water ball at it.
It seemed like the wyvern was programmed to attack anything which seemed to be releasing a threatening intent.
The water Darque shot forwards didn't seem to have any motives behind it and the programming of the wyvern wasn't complicated enough to read into the plan of Reaper and his spirit.
The wyvern charged forwards, running right through the water, which seemed to cling onto it's metal scales.
Darque moved right along the mental plan Reaper had set out in front of her. At his mental flick of a finger, Darque dodged out of the wyvern's incoming claws. She then summoned a ball of lightning and got ready to throw it at the wyvern when she felt a sudden tug. A black sphere appeared beside her and Darque suddenly realized what Reaper was planning.
"You cheater! You can't just steal the best bits…" Darque's sudden, out of character screech slowly faded away as her body dissolved into mist, before being sucked back into her key.
A second later, the ball of electricity was sucked into the black sphere, which everyone could now see was a black hole.
Reaper appeared on the spot where Darque had been a second ago. He hurled the black hole into the air, then leaped out of the way. The black hole fell into the path of the wyvern, and on contact, the black swirl of gravitational energy exploded, releasing bolts of electricity in all directions.
The wyvern threw its head back as electricity ran through it, slowly but surely destroying its electronic system. A black shield made of black, gravitational energy appeared in front of Reaper as the mech exploded.
They had around two hours before the first battle pairs were to be announced and the matches were to start.
Jellal had earned them 15 points, but that didn't really matter to Lucy when Darque appeared in front of her, tears trailing down her face as she broke into sobs. No one noticed the evil smirk plastered onto the Grim Reaper spirit's face as she wailed on about the stolen spotlight.
That was how Jellal found himself at the receiving end of Lucy's fury. The moment Jellal had reappeared at the guild stand, he had seen the look of victory on Darque's face, but before he could comment on it, she had masked it, before burying her face into Wendy, who had her arms wrapped around the spirit.
That was all Jellal could remember before he found himself meteoring through the corridors of the Domus Flau, desperately trying to avoid the spheres of pure darkness thrown at him with deadly accuracy by one angry blonde.
So far, he had managed to dodge them all, but he knew it wasn't long before one actually managed to hit him, and probably suck him in until Lucy decided to spit him out who-knows-where.
They were going so fast that most people around them didn't even notice the two mages caught in a game of death tag. After all, though the people felt the rush of wind, by the time they had turned around, Jellal and Lucy were far away.
Jellal clutched onto the hood of his cloak, which had been about to blow over due to the speed he was going at.
He risked a look over his shoulder to see that Lucy's speed was being accelerated through Darque's Black Carpet. It looked just like a black version of his meteor.
While Black Carpet was faster, it could generally only go in one direction. This meant that every time Lucy wanted to make a turn, she had to start a new magic circle. On the other hand, Jellal's meteor made it possible for him to make quick curves and turns, so they were evenly matched.
Some time later, Lucy's previously angry growls transformed into laughter. Jellal was laughing himself, just managing to stop himself from running into a cart selling guild goods.
He glanced over at Lucy from under his hood, when Lucy's voice rang out. "In front!"
Jellal whipped around and managed to stop himself from crashing into the person standing in front of him. Lucy came to a skidding stop behind him and Jellal instinctively reached out with his hand to stop her from toppling over due to the momentum.
The two glanced up and stiffened. They had been about to crash into Natsu. Standing behind him were Gray, Laxus, Freed and Gajeel, who looked like they had been in a middle of a heated argument.
Sorry about the late update!
