Chapter THIRTY TWO
Gray, Gajeel, Laxus and Freed looked up when Natsu stopped in a middle of a sentence. They instantly caught sight of the two mages clad in black hooded cloaks.
Gray glanced at them suspiciously. He was pretty sure these two were Reaper and Valkyrie from Grim Requiem. He watched as they quickly straighten their stances.
Reaper stepped forwards. "Sorry." He murmured. His voice sounded very hollow, and had a ring of an echo to it.
Natsu paused, before his eyes widened. "You're the guy that used that Darque thingy in the event!" He exclaimed. "Do you know Lucy, or something?"
"Lucy?" He asked. He glanced at the girl standing behind him. "Not that I know of."
Gray stepped forwards. "But the spirit you used in the first event belonged to her."
The two glanced at each other again, before turning back to the Fairies. "Sorry."
"You're a new guild, right?" Laxus asked. "When did you-"
"A month ago." Reaper said. Freed's enraged-"Don't interrupt Laxus when he's speaking." went ignored.
Natsu crossed his arms. "Hey, why is that Cobra Oracion bastard in your guild?" He asked. "Don't you know that he-"
"Is a former criminal?" Valkyrie cut in. "Former." She stressed the word. "Formally released from jail." Her voice sounded hollow as well.
"What about those Saber guys?" Gajeel asked.
"What about them?" Valkyrie replied.
"Weren't they in Saber tooth?" Freed asked.
"Former Saber tooth mages." Valkyrie said, then shrugged. "Who knows their reason for quitting."
Reaper slowly lowered his head in farewell, then turned to make his way back towards Domus Flau, Valkyrie right behind him.
Natsu's hand flashed forwards, grabbing onto Valkyrie's arm.
There was a pause for a split second before Valkyrie ripped her arm out of Natsu's grip. She took a couple of rapid steps backwards, still facing the Fairy tail mages. Reaper had turned around at the sudden commotion and the two members of Grim Requiem were now watching the Fairies, their stances somewhat threatening.
"What?" Valkyrie asked.
Natsu frowned. "I thought you smelled familiar." He said, then turned to face Gajeel. "What'd you think?"
Gajeel slowly nodded. "Yeah."
Valkyrie stiffened so much that even from under her cloak, her shoulders looked rigid. Her cloak moved due to her hand moving, and the Dragon Slayers instantly stiffened.
"Wha-" Whatever Gajeel was about to say was cut off when a civilian let out a cry. "What's that?"
Everyone instantly turned to looked in the direction the civilian was pointing. What Gray saw made his blood freeze. A couple of roofs away, two figures seemed to be fighting. Since he was Fairy tail mage, that wasn't the fact that made him begin to panic. No, it was who the two figures looked like. After all, no one could mistake the Titania and Demon Mira Jane for anyone else, right?
Gray was about to head towards the fight when a hand reached out and grabbed his shoulder. He turned around to face Gajeel, who shook his head, eyes narrowed. "We're not that far away." He said. "We should be able to hear them."
Gray noticed that his guild mate was right. No matter how much he strained his ears, he couldn't hear a single clash of metal.
Laxus let out a growl and Gray whipped around, to notice that the two Grim Requiem mages were nowhere to be seen. Several gasps followed and Gray turned back to face 'Erza' and 'Mira' only to see that they had also faded.
Freed turned to Gajeel. "What were you going to say?" He asked.
Gajeel grunted. "After Natsu made the comment about their scent, it disappeared."
Gray frowned. "What?"
"Not like faded away, just disappeared." Gajeel said.
Freed blinked. "Reaper's magic is Black Hole magic, right?"
Gray nodded.
"Black holes are known to suck in anything, from objects to even light." Freed said. "So can't it suck in smell?"
"Their voices sounded hollow." Laxus added. "Maybe that Reaper guy used his magic to fade bits of it away."
"Why would he do that?" Natsu asked.
"Because they were hiding something." Gray said. "We should probably tell master."
Midnight had woken to a faint sound of…something. He blinked open an eye and slowly sat up from where he had been leaning on the wall. He noticed the weight on his knees and looked down to see Darque's sleeping face. He didn't know Spirits slept.
He glanced up. Lucy and Jellal lay in a tangle of limbs a meter or so in front of him. As he watched, they groaned and quickly untangled themselves.
Lucy looked up and smiled at Midnight. "Hi, sorry. Did we wake you?" She asked.
Midnight shook his head. "What happened?"
"We bumped into Natsu and a few other Fairies and we had to run." Lucy said. She then proceeded to explain to Midnight the illusion they had cast in order to catch the Fairies attention, long enough for them to escape through a Black Hole.
Lucy then turned to Jellal and raised her hand. Jellal raised his own and the two high-fived.
Jellal was partially glad they had bumped into Natsu, as Lucy's attention seemed to have shifted away from the main reason she had been chasing him. Now, he guessed that he had been forgiven, considering the smile she sent him.
Darque suddenly sat up, so quickly that she hit her forehead on Midnight's chin.
Said mage let out a hiss and Darque quickly muttered an apology before whipping out her scroll and stared at it for a while, before turning to Sting and Rogue.
"Orga Nanagear is the Lightning God Slayer of Saber tooth, is that correct?" She asked.
Rogue nodded in confirmation.
Darque's expression darkened. "Just now, he was chosen as Lite's second recruit."
Jellal turned to face her. "Who are the others again?"
"Angel and Rustyrose are Lite's candidates." Darque said. "Then there are Yukino Aguria and Orga Nanagear."
Rogue narrowed his eyes. "Orga is a pretty straight forward person." He said. "It wouldn't have been hard to convince him."
Sorry about the late update. We're keeping this short today, as we are working on the next chapter.
