Chapter FOURTY ONE

True to his thoughts last night, Jellal awoke to a very sore back. However, he decided that the warmth pressed against him was worth it. He checked the clock, then gently shook Lucy awake.

Lucy muttered something under her breath, before she slowly opened her eyes. She stared at him for a while, before the occurring of yesterday caught up to her and she offered him a sleepy smile.

"Morning." She mumbled.

Jellal smiled. "Morning."

They untangled themselves and Jellal groaned. Gods, his back hurt. He glanced over at Lucy, who seemed perfectly fine.

Lucy glanced at him, and snickered at his bent back. Jellal sent her a half-hearted scowl. Lucy then proceeded to shower and change. By the time she was back, Jellal felt better. The two exited their room to greet the others.

The Grim Requiem entered their stand and waited for the events to be explained.

A few minuted later, Mato appeared to announce the third event of the Grand Magical Games. Rogue had waken up that morning, and though Wendy had complained, she finally let him come back to the guild stand. Most were surprised at his rather fast recovery, but welcomed him back. When Rogue was feeling stubborn, there was nothing you could do about it.

"The third event is called 'Mirage sphere'. In this event, there are round spheres floating in the air. The participants must touch these spheres in order to gain points. They are movable, and will move around." Mato said.

"You may use magic to boost yourself into the air, but you must touch them yourself to get the point. Though you are not allowed to attack anyone while you are on the ground, or if they are on the ground, you may do so in the air. If you are KO'd, you will be out of the match with the amount of spheres you collected. Now, please send down your contestants."

Sting groaned. "That is not a battle." He whined. He had been much better since Rogue had waken up. "So I'm not going."

"Don't worry. No one would think of sending you." Cobra snorted.

Sting gnashed his teeth, but was held back by Rogue before he could attack.

"I'll go." Lucy said. When she received many looks she sigh. "What?" She asked. "I'm going."

When Lucy was feeling stubborn, there was nothing you could do about it either.

"From Mermaid Heel, we have Risely Law!"

"From Blue Pegasus, we have Jenny Realight

"From Lamia Scale, we have Jura Neekis!"

"From Saber tooth, we have Yukino Aguria!"

"From Quatro Cerberus, we have Bachuss!"

"From Fairy tail A, we have Natsu Dragneel."

"From Grim Requiem, we have Valkyrie di Daemon!"

"From Fairy tail B, we have Gajeel Redfox!"

"Now, will the competitors make their way down?"

"That's a lot of very powerful mages in one event." Meredy noted.

"Jura-san, Bachuss-san, Natsu-san, Gajeel-san and Lucy-san." Wendy agreed.

Sting grinned. "Isn't it annoying to add the 'san' to everyone's name?" He asked.

Wendy blushed. Instead, she turned to Valkyrie, who was checking her cloak. "Good luck, Lucy-san."

Sting snickered, before nodding. "Yeah, Blondie."

Valkyrie grinned, and turned to hug Reaper. "Good luck." He whispered.

"Thanks." Valkyrie murmured back. She then let go and spun around. She flipped her hood over. "Well, then. I'm off!" She disappeared out of their guild stand.

Valkyrie appeared through the gates, unlike some others who had jumped off.

She was instantly surrounded by Gajeel and Natsu, but she easily stepped out of the way, making the two Dragon Slayers bash their heads together. She then left them to their arguments.

Mato directed the mages onto the grounds, so that they were evenly spread out, and ran over the rules once again.

Then the bell rang, signaling the beginning of the third event.

Countless numbers of different colored magic spheres appeared in the air. A score board appeared midair, a 0 beside each mages name.

Yukino summoned Pisces, and the spirit raised it's heads, hitting the spheres with their heads.

Gajeel launched into the air, punching at the spheres. Fire appeared at the soles of Natsu's feet and he flew into the air. The two Dragon Slayers immediately began a fight.

Jura created a whole bunch of rocks appear out of the ground, then used them to get into the air.

Bachuss jumped into the air, the force of the jump breaking the ground. Jenny giggled to herself, then transformed into her Machina Soul, and used Jura's rocks to get into the air.

Risely used her gravity magic.

Valkyrie pulled out two keys. Darque and Cygnus appeared, in a puff of black smoke and in a burst of feathers.

Darque waved her hand, a flat board made of ice appeared. Valkyrie stepped onto it and it rose into the air.

Valkyrie raised both her hands, and two black holes appeared on her palms. There was a pause, before they began to suck things towards them. The cracked off bits of earth from Jura and Bachuss's magic flew into the black spheres. Flags and other object that had been placed around the audience area were sucked in as well. The cries from the audience went ignored.

Neither of her spirits seemed affected by the black holes.

The magic spheres began to slowly move towards Valkyrie. Some of the mages who had been closer to her were also dragged onto the ground. She then spun around, hitting all the spheres around her.

Jenny let out a cry, which sounded like "That isn't fair!"

At once, Natsu was flying at her. Gajeel used the levitated earth to reach her as well. Darque, in her half mist form, quickly moved to intercept the two Dragon Slayers. Cygnus flapped her wings and joined her.

"Why don't you two stop fighting?" Cygnus suggested. "Maybe take a nap?" She asked.

The other participants looked at the spirit as if she was crazy. They were Natsu and Gajeel they were talking about...

To their surprise, Natsu let out a yawn. The flames on the soles of his feet flickered. Gajeel stumbled on the chunk of earth he was balanced on.

Darque grinned and raised her hands. Two swirling spheres of black electricity appeared on her palms. She flung them at the two Dragon Slayers, and hit them right on. The two Fairy tail mages were flung back to the ground.

"Wha..." Lisanna asked, glancing between the now asleep Dragon Slayers. "What happened?"

Mira narrowed her eyes. "I think it's some sort of charm magic."

Levy had her nose buried in a book. "Found it!" She announced. Her guild mates crowded around.

"Cygnus is the swan spirit. Her magic is called charm-speak, and it lets her charm people into doing things by talking to them. It doesn't always work, but the more the suggestion goes along the lines of what the victim wishes for, the more effective it is."

Lisanna looked dumbfounded. "So, Natsu and Gejaal were sleepy?" She asked.

"They have been fighting and training none stop." Erza pointed out. "Who knew that there would be a disadvantage to that?"

"Can't you find anything on Darque?" Cana asked. For once, she wasn't drunk.

Levy shook her head. "I can't." She said. "And I've looked through nearly everything."

Gray glanced back at Valkyrie. "Why does she have Lucy's key?"

At the Grim Requiem stand, the mages were equally surprised.

Sting's eyes were wide. "Woah. I never knew Cygnus's magic was that strong."

Meredy smiled. "I think it has to do with the good hearing of the Dragon Slayers." She noted.

Carla nodded. "That would make sense."

As if one que, Valkyrie glanced towards their stand. She then turned and said something to her spirits.

Darque floated in midair, her legs crossed.

The mages below them eyed the two spirits warily. Well, apart from Bacchus, who looked too drunk to care and Jura, who was smiling.

"Lets get rid of the weaker ones, then deal with the drunk and the smiley." Cygnus suggested.

Darque nodded. Her eyes sparkled. "I have an idea!" She announced. She turned to Cygnus, then Valkyrie, and whispered something.

Valkyrie nodded softly.

Cygnus grinned. "And then BOOM!"
