After long thoughts, I have decided to pass by the signing of the Accords scene … unfortunately, I just couldn't get any enthusiasm to write it. In the first chapter of this book, I introduce a new OC that I said would become the love interest for Steve. She's back! However, please note there is a name change. I have gone back to change the name in chapter 1 as well. Sophia Manning is now Myra Johnston. I know there's been virtually nothing in regards to chapters with her so far but I was thinking about creating a whole new future book for Myra and Steve as sort of a spin-off to this series. Anyone interested?

Hope you enjoy the chapter! :) Please leave me a comment if you did!

Captain America: Civil War | Shattering Relations | The Vienna International Explosion

London, England

"There you are."

Steve glanced over his shoulder when a familiar voice appeared behind him. He couldn't help but feel his spirits lift slightly when he noticed it was probably the only person he wanted to see right now. Myra. She had a small smile across her lips, however, her eyes appeared sad as she stared at him with her soft coral blue eyes. Her long blonde hair was tied into a bunched-up ponytail today and she wore a black pantsuit with flats and a crisp white shirt.

He remembered her saying she had a meeting to attend to this morning with her superiors so that's probably why she was all dressed up. Usually, her attire was more dressed down in a pair of regular black pants with a nice shirt and a black blazer. But no matter what she wore – anything she put on her body, he found extremely attractive.

She walked up to him and brought him into a hug the moment she noticed the small tears in his eyes. He leaned into her comfort and wrapped his arms around her in return.

"Natasha told me you'd probably be here."

Here being … Saint Luke's Cathedral.

This was the church Peggy Carter had been buried exactly one year ago today. The very same place her service had been performed while Steve, Ava, Bucky, and a few other former colleges of the amazing woman carried her casket down the aisle. It was a beautiful ceremony but as with any death, it left a hole in everyone's heart that would have to be healed. They had to say goodbye to the incredible person that both them and society cherished.

Even though that day had been full of heartache for everyone … Steve learned something new that day. As it turns out; Peggy had a niece that was currently working at Shield. Or, what used to be Shield, anyway. Sharon Carter. He vaguely remembered her as the woman who spied of him and Bucky from across the hall a couple of years ago. He's only seen her a handful of times but from what he's heard, she's doing pretty well for herself.

Steve and Bucky originally came to England with a lead from a reliable source on Ava and her whereabouts. Unfortunately, by the time they got there, the woman they had been looking for vanished into thin air. They were given another dud. So, in the end, Steve decided that instead of going straight back to America or the hotel, he would pay a visit to his former love-attraction and friend.

He also knew Myra was going to be in the area as well so there was another reason why he wanted to stay a bit longer.

Bucky had made his way back to the hotel feeling distraught a while ago, probably stopping to have something to eat as well. He was still trying to contact the person they had meant to be meeting but as far as Steve knew, there hadn't been much luck. The search for Avery was becoming very thin and exhausting. There was virtually nothing and yet, it was almost as if she never existed in the first place. They could never seem to get a lock on her.

She clearly didn't want to be found and that clearly bugged them both.

"I was just paying my respects." Steve finally expressed, leaning her further into his hold as her head rested against his chest. He tilted his head to the side so he stared at the altar before letting it rest against the top of hers seeing as he was a little bit taller than she was. "I still can't believe it was a year ago today." Time certainly moved on fast and he wasn't sure if he liked that or not.

"I wish I could've met her," Myra admitted quietly, letting a small sigh leave her mouth as she gazed towards the same direction as him. "Peggy was quite the celebrity and a hero amongst Agents, both here and the US."

A few weeks after Steve introduced himself in the park that day – he found out something that was an utter surprise to him. Myra Johnston was an undercover agent for the British Government. She had known about Captain America but it had never initially clicked into her brain that she actually met him in the park that day. She was off duty for a few weeks after an injury so she was still in the middle of recovering. It was a surprise, but he was glad she didn't fawn over him as others have in the past. It made things uncomfortable exceptionally fast.

He already gathered she was of British heritage, given her accent, but they hadn't spent enough time together that day to really get to know each other. It wasn't like they were going to divulge all their secrets and put them out in the open. Even though they haven't known each other for long – he always had a smile on his face the moment he saw her walk through the door. He found his spirits were lifted no matter the circumstances.

"I think she would've liked you." Steve chuckled a little as he imagined how the interactions might have gone. Granted, he was picturing the Peggy Carter as he knew from 1945 rather than last year's but it would have certainly been a sight to see. Myra was like Peggy. A strong woman who never lets anyone get in her way of doing something she wanted. He admired about both of them.

A solemn silence suddenly grew between them.

"When I came out of the ice, I thought everyone I had known was gone … even Buck." He recalled waking up in a room that was decorated like a war hospital. It was a very good lookalike. He would always be impressed at the lengths Shield had gone to try and ease him back into society. Obviously, it hadn't worked, but it was a nice gesture he supposed. They just didn't account for the fact that he was there during the game that played on the radio. Other than that, they were quite close to perfect.

Bucky hadn't been there when he woke up and that had been a warning sign for him. Eventually, he was informed the man was still being recovered from the ice where they were found. Steve had been the first one pulled. Shield hadn't expected either of them to be waking up for weeks but surprisingly he had. It caught them off guard. Bucky eventually returned to the land of the living a few days later which mean he didn't have to go through what he had. Steve stayed by his bedside until he woke up.

"When I found out she was alive…" He continued, "I was just happy that she was. I was lucky to have her even when she could no longer have been mine."

Steve had been happy for her in the end. She seemed to have made a good life for herself and become a role more for many others. She had a husband, children, and grandchildren, a career in helping people achieve what they really wanted without stopping at passable barriers … and he was proud of her. She passed away being loved, cared for, and cherished.

"She would have been happy you were alive regardless," Myra told him softly, leaning back from the hug before resting a hand against his cheek. She felt him lean against her touch as she passed him a reassuring look with a small smile, "She stayed here long enough to know you survived, albeit, in a block of ice somewhere in the Pacific … but you still came back for her. She finally found you and you both got to say a proper goodbye."

Steve couldn't help but smile as she talked, because somehow … she always knew exactly what to say.

"Now, come on," Myra moved back and extended her hand for him to take. An excited glint sparkled in her eyes as she tried to bring some light and joy back into the conversation. "I just so happen to know where the best burgers are located and it's only a few streets away. I assure you, your mind will be blown."

Steve chuckled under his breath as she took his hand into her own.

This woman loved her burgers and it was one of the first things she made sure to tell him as they got to know each other. You can never go wrong with an old fashion hamburger and fries, she said. As she slowly walked them out of the Cathedral; he made sure to glance back towards the altar and pray once more before leaving the building.

"My mom was the one who tried to stop me from moving to America in the first place." Myra continued to explain the dynamics of her family as she and Steve walked through the doors of the hotel they were staying at. The pair had simply walked around London for the past couple of hours, just taking in the sights and sounds. This was only the second time Steve had visited England in general so she wanted him to experience it rather than just visit. "My father was proud, obviously, since he's the one who pushed me into joining the Agency."

Myra Johnston was one of the few agents who were able to join in their early twenties. She was accepted due to how intelligent and skilled she was in the art of defensive techniques and weapon handling. It was something that reminded Steve of his sister. She was able to join the military as a young woman as well, given all her extensive training she was able to learn beforehand. They were both assets the country was more than happy to take on.

Her father had been in the war also and used to regularly teach younger children self-defense. He retired not too long ago and was now living life with her mother in the small town of Sheffield. His teachings are how she managed to learn all that she had, from childhood to being an adult. The man was proud that his daughter was being a force for good just as he taught her.

"He bought me my very first thigh holster the day I turned 18."

Steve couldn't help but laugh, "That's very practical." He commented, knowing he very much wanted to meet the man she called father. From everything he's heard about the man in such a short amount of time - he was a very fine gentleman. From what he could tell; he and Bucky would also get along very well. Even Ava would probably like him.

"And stylish."

Myra joined in with his amusement because as much as she loved her father very much to the ends of the Earth, he wasn't exactly one would call a normal father. She hasn't spoken to her parents lately given everything that's been going on at work but she was sure they would be happy to hear the stories she had to tell them. She couldn't wait to see the reaction on her mother's face when she tells her she's met the Captain America. She imagined fainting and a short squeal.

She hasn't mentioned her relationship with him to anyone yet, not really, because she knew exactly what it was like to want privacy in your life. She wouldn't mention Steve to them unless he was comfortable meeting them in person. He voiced at one point his fears that she would get hurt because of her association with him. Her simple reply was that whoever it was could bring it on. If they wanted to hurt her, she'd hurt them back twice as hard.

She wasn't going to let anyone get in the way of how she wanted to live her life and she wanted a life with Steve in it. They weren't together-together in that way but someday … she hoped it would happen. Right now, they were simply in the friend-zone and getting to know each other better.

They approached the elevator in a time that felt like too soon.

Myra reached forwards and pressed the button that signaled they wanted to go up. According to the floor counter above the elevator doors, it was currently held up at level 8. She turned in her place so her back was against the wall and Steve was standing in front of her.

There was a moment of silence between them as they stared at each other.

"So, where are they sending you this time?" Steve asked finally with a hesitant look in his features. He made sure not to speak too loudly because even if it wasn't classified, it was still private information. This was a question that's been bugging him from the moment he knew she had a meeting with her superiors.

Myra's shoulders lowered a little as a sad smile lifted on her lips, "I'll still be based in America but I'll be in Berlin for a couple of months with Sharon. The Joint Terrorism Task Force." She quickly noticed how put out he seemed, "But not to worry, I'll be back in no time."

"Right, uh, that-that sounds fun." Steve tried to sound enthusiastic for her but he couldn't quite seem to muster up enough to sound truly genuine. It greatly saddened him, in fact. Over the past few months, aside from spending the majority of his time either training with the team or trying to find Ava, he's spent the rest of it with Myra when neither of them were on duty.

"Hey," Myra poked him in the stomach with a teasing smile, trying to get him to liven up. "You're not getting rid of me that easily." She assured, "I said I'll be back in a couple of months. And besides … I'm sure Amber would tear apart every piece of furniture I owned if I stayed away for too long." She was happy to see a quirk of a grin appear across his lips.

She understood what he was feeling because part of her was experiencing it too. Even though she was excited about being apart of the Joint Terrorism Task Force in Berlin – she felt disappointment settle in her heart when she realized, she wouldn't be able to see Steve on the semi-daily basis they were used to.

"Steve."

A solemn toned voice interrupted their conversation just as the elevator doors opened and let all it's passengers out. Steve turned towards the man that spoke his name and saw his friend Sam standing before him. He wasn't smiling, that he noticed quickly and there was a seriousness built in his stature. There was also sadness and a hint of hesitation in his eyes as he shoved his hands into his jacket pockets. They stayed where they were for a moment as people passed by and emptied the area.

"I'm sorry to interrupt but there's something you really need to see."

Everyone made their way fairly quickly up to the hotel room registered in Bucky's name. They were all gathered around a flat screen television watching a horrific sight that's just happened in Vienna, Austria. On the television, there was news coming out about an explosion hitting the side of the Vienna International Center. All the stations were relaying the same information and currently, they were on one of London's local stations.

The Vienna International Center was the very same place Natasha was attending for the signing of the Accords. According to the reports; the explosion happened during the King of Wakanda's speech about unity between the world and the Avengers'. He was in the middle of mentioning how he appreciated all the work the team had done in keeping the world safe from extra-terrestrial beings. He extended his gratitude to those who agreed to sign the Accords including Natasha, Vision, Rhodey, and Tony.

Natasha had arrived and left soon before Myra found Steve in the Cathedral. The redhead was extending a seat to him and Bucky, just in case they had changed their minds at the last minute in regards to whether they were going to sign after all. Before leaving; she relayed who decided to sign in the end, who was still deciding, and those who are retiring. Clint decided to retire while Wanda and Pietro were still undetermined.

Pietro was still overseas as of this moment and Wanda advised him it probably wasn't the best idea to come back to America right now. She didn't want him to get caught up in all the chaos she's caused because of what happened in Nigeria.

The United Nations building in Vienna was essentially destroyed by a bomb. It was discovered too late as it was parked in a news van just outside the building. It was inconspicuous, no one would have noticed it if it weren't for an officer who wondered whose van it was. No one seemed to claim it and there were dozens of reporters and networks around the outskirts of the building.

The firemen were working to contain the aftermath but it seemed to just keep spreading. The blaze looked deadly and by latest counts, a number of people were pronounced dead at the scene and tens of people were injured. The counts were still rising.

Bucky, Steve, and Sam were watching the screen as more news came in. Myra was standing behind them talking to someone over the phone while taking glances over to them every now and then in concern. She was talking to one of her superiors because given that this was a national emergency - she was, by rights, now a part of the unit meant to be taking charge of events such as these. She wasn't supposed to start for a couple of weeks but since she was already close by and just a short plane ride away – she could assist if required.

"A bomb hidden in a news van ripped through the UN building in Vienna. More than seventy people have been injured and at least twelve are dead, including Wakana's King T'Chaka. Officials have released a video of a suspect who they have identified as Avery Lola Rogers, the Winter Soldier and former member of the Avengers'. The infamous HYDRA agent linked with numerous acts of terrorism and political assassinations. If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of the suspect please call the helpline immediately. Do not approach…"

Bucky stared at the screen in disbelief as a video of Ava played. She was walking towards the news van that he presumed was the one that exploded. The clip paused at the exact time the love of his life glanced towards the camera so everyone could see her face clearly. She was wearing all black from head to toe, including a beanie that covered up her hair. The facial expressions on her face were blank, ever so slightly making him remember her time a Winter when they first discovered her. The woman that didn't know feelings existed.

It didn't make sense…

They knew full well the kind of acts she committed in the past but this was something different. In everything they've read on Winter's history, there had never been any indication of an act such as this. Her style was shoot to kill, looking them in the eye or from a distance. Maybe it was just hope prompting him to think this way … but he couldn't believe for a second that this was her doing. This could very well be a coincidence and she just happened to stroll past these news trucks?...

Even if his worst nightmares had come true and Hydra had indeed gotten a hold of her again – why would they bomb the UN building and frame her for it? What purpose did that hold? They would be giving the authorities the ability to gain information about their organization, so it would have worked against their favor. They would also know it's likely she'll regain her memories back again like last time – meaning they haven't realized it's pointless trying and it was best to just leave her alone.

Also…

The person in the video clearly knew where the camera was so why look straight at it unless they wanted to be found guilty of the crime?

He knew Ava felt many regrets for everything she's done since her memories came back. He would have never imagined she'd do something like this while racking up a death toll and an injured list. She'd never willingly do that. Not their Ava. He did have to remind himself that this wasn't the same woman they knew back in 1945 … as much as it pains him to know this. They have, however, spent over a year with her by their side fighting and trying to turn over a new leaf.

That's how he knew something about this didn't sit right with him.

He had to believe she was hiding away somewhere. It possible she was also avoiding society, considering they haven't been able to find an inch of news on her.

He suddenly pictured the last time he saw her … how emotionless and dead in the eyes she looked. That wasn't his Ava either. Maybe … maybe he was holding out too much hope for her return? Maybe she hadn't snapped out of it after she left and continued killing and doing Hydra's bidding in secret? The fact that he was even thinking of the possibility made him feel like a horrible, sick person.

"She can't be this far gone, Steve. She just … she just can't." Bucky finally uttered to his best friend in disbelief with his eyes still staring at the screen. He was sitting on the couch with his elbows touching his knees while Sam and Steve stood somewhere behind him. He wasn't quite sure where since he could barely take his eyes off the screen.

Steve couldn't stop staring at the picture of his sister either as shock sat in his heart. He couldn't deny the uncanny resemblance the woman looked to Ava. As much as he hated to say it … they needed to bring her in. Even if she did this or not, there was no way she'll be able to stay under the radar for much longer with the whole world looking out for her. He leaned his hands against the back of the sofa and let out a long breath, silently trying to figure out what their next move should be.

They certainly weren't going back to America any time soon that's for sure.

"I know." Steve voiced, looking conflicted, "I can't believe it either but … even if there's a mistake here or not, the price to this isn't going to be pretty. The fact that they've put out an alert on her make their case that much more solid."

"The King of Wakanda's dead." Sam inputted, looking between his two friends and they turned towards him. "They're no doubt going to be gunning for blood. More so given her reputation with Hydra and her track record. A friend of mine mentioned a while back - everyone's been looking for an excuse to get rid of her … and this is it, guilty or not guilty."

"So, we'll need to find Ava before they do." Bucky decided.

A silent agreement struck between the three men. Sam considered Ava a friend too so he didn't want her to die or get taken away either. He was in for anything the two soldiers were.

"I've been called in to help," Myra decided to pitch into the conversation. "My plane leaves in twenty so I can give you guys a ride."

She locked her phone and put it away in her pocket as the call from her superiors ended. Considering the timeline, she was now in a rush to get moving along. She shrugged on the blazer she placed aside earlier when entering the room as fast as she could. She grabbed Steve's jacket and chucked it to him, nearly hitting him in the face but was instead caught quite efficiently.

She was heading towards the exit in a hurried walk, thinking they were following right behind her, but then noticed how the boys were still sitting there staring at her like lemons from the sitting area.

She seemed to just zip around the room in an instant.

"Are you boys coming or not?"
