Chapter FOURTY FOUR

Back on the field, Jura had come to the same conclusion about Valkyrie being able to use the absorbed attacks. "Handy."

Valkyrie smiled from under her hood. "I know, right?"

Two black holes appeared above her head. Spheres of magic appeared, one from each black hole, black on the left, white on the right.

"Black hole magic: Roar of the White and the Shadow Dragons!" Valkyrie's smirk could be seen from underneath her hood. The ground rose up to shield the Lamia Scale mage. The two Dragon Roars hit the surface, one after the other. Dust rose into the air, covering the result of the assault.

The dust cleared to reveal Jura first. He was standing behind a second shield, breathing heavily. The surface of the second shield was badly dented and chunks of the earth was glowing red. The first had been completely shattered, the power and speed so high that a clean hole had been left.

"That was close." Jura breathed out.

Valkyrie tilted her head. "But not close enough." She held up her hands. "But I have enough of those for at least one to hit. Even you can't block forever."

This time, three black hole appeared. The ones on the right and the left charged up with the White and Shadow Dragon's Roar. The middle one began forming a swirl of purple. "Time to see if your poison is strong enough to melt earth, Cobra."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

"If I win, I get a night with the Valkyrie girl." Bacchus grinned. People were reminded of the time he had said the same thing about Mira Jane and Lisanna during his fight with Elfman the previous year.

Darque held back a gag. "If I win, you must do me a favor."

"Deal."

Darque turned to where Valkyrie was having a glare-down with Jura. "Valkyrie! My loss with earn you a night with Bacchus." She said.

Valkyrie turned around. "Well, you better not loose." She growled. However, her voice was laced with amusement and Darque grinned. She turned to look at the Grim Requiem stands. Of course she was going to win. After all, she was a part of team Get-Jellal-and-Lucy-together.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Meredy could see Jellal literally shaking with anger and she shot Wendy a mischievous grin. She then flashed Darque a secret thumbs up.

"That guy..." Sting growled. Sting had come to really care for Lucy, and they were very close in terms of friendship.

Midnight's eyebrows were scrunched up, showing his disgust. Cobra was curling and uncurling his fist. Rogue looked uncharacteristically irritated. The exceeds flew around, trying to calm everyone down while Wendy smiled at the scene.

They really had gotten close.

Meredy smiled and turned back to Jellal. Yes, they had really gotten close.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The swirl of purple tore through the earth. Jura jumped out of the way. His sleeve was brushed by the poison, and everyone could see it start to slowly melt.

"This poison is much stronger that what I have seen during out fight against Oracion Seis." Jura noted.

Valkyrie shrug. "Well, he's been training a lot." Yes, he had. Everyone had.

Valkyrie knew that Jura was strong, and she didn't know if she had any chance of winning.

A lot of things had happened, brought together by the single threat known as Lite. However, not everything was a negative.

They had been joined by Meredy, who had wanted to help Jellal even after he had left her.

Wendy had joined in with them, brightening the slightly awkward atmosphere.

Midnight had revealed his caring side, showing that he knew how to display his affection for them, considering his bad experiences with his father.

Rogue had nearly died in his fight against Minerva, just because he wanted to make them proud, not only as guildmates, but as important friends.

Darque had pressed down her fear and had faced Lite for the first time in centuries, just so she could aid her contractors.

Jellal had defeated someone who worshiped the one whom he hated for ruining a good part of his life.

Sting had showed everyone how they were a power to be recognized with his quick victory against Hibiki.

Hell, even Cobra had survived the humiliation of having to put together a frilly dress for a masquerade ball.

She winced when she saw the two fighting. She had seen a couple of Darque's plans and they were not very pretty not for Darque, not for Bacchus, and not for the audience.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Bacchus grinned, and lazily raised his foot. He smashed it down onto the ground, creating cracks across the ground. Darque's legs turned to mist, and she floated into the air.

"That's cheating." Bacchus yawned.

Darque smirked. "What magic was that? No wonder you wanted to fight on land."

She formed a swirl of black wind in her hands, and flung it at the seemingly drunk mage. Bacchus easily dodged it, and flew forwards. Darque's eyes widened and Bacchus's fist sent her flying back to the ground, where she landed with a crash.

Valkyrie whipped around and felt for the magic of her spirit. She sigh in relief when she saw Darque's silhouette from between the dust.

"Ow." Darque whined. Inside, her gears were turning. Bacchus's speed had surprised her. She had heard that he was a S-class mage.

"Spirits can't die, right?" Bacchus asked, almost tauntingly. He flew forwards again. Darque moved, but speed was not one of her fortes. That was Lite's specialty.

Bacchus grabbed her by her cloak and yanked her back. His hand flashed forward and he plunged it through her stomach.

Darque's eyes widened.

Bacchus smirked and tried to pull out his hand. He froze.

Darque's hands were glowing with a eerie shade of purple. She grabbed Bacchus's wrist. Her wound started to slowly close, and a sudden shock ran through his body, strong enough to fry his nerves.

"Gotcha."
