Chapter Two Hundred Forty Eight

"Is something wrong?" Julien asks, as Sam walks up.

"I need you to come with me." Sam says, turning to Leah. "Can you finish…?"

"I'll handle the rest of the appointments for the afternoon." She says, as Sam nods. She leaves with Julien following behind her.

Going back upstairs, she walks over to the table by the door. Picking up her purse, she reaches for the door handle as Julien reaches to stop her. "Let me go first." He says, opening the door as Sam steps back. He looks out and then moves out of the way as Sam punches in the code for the alarm. Once they are on the street, he asks again. "What's wrong?"

"One of my patients has been brought into the ER. The hospital called when she was brought in."

Less than five minutes later, they pull up to the ER. Getting out, she walks into the ER, as they walk up Julien moves in front of her. Sighing, she steps back to let him go ahead of her. When they reach the desk, she flashes her badge. "I have a patient that was brought in a few moments…."

"Dr. O'Neill." Lillian says, walking up to her.

"Hi, Lillian. Did you call…?"

"She's in exam room one. Whomever did this was very through. She may not make it through the night." Lillian says, as Sam turns to Julien.

"I'll be right here." He says, as Sam nods.

She walks towards exam room one. Pushing the door open, as Rick looks up. "Dr. O'Neill." He says.

"What do we have?" Sam asks, walking up to them.

Mrs. Owens reaches for her hand. "Don't let them take…."

"Shhh, you need to rest." Sam says, taking her hand.

"Ari…."

"She's safe in foster care." Sam says, as Mrs. Owens shakes her head no.

"He wants to know where she's at. If he finds out he'll take her. You have to protect..." She takes a deep breath and winces. "You have to protect her."

"Jeremiah is in…."

"Not him, my ex. He came to my house this morning, demanding to know where she was. I wouldn't tell him because I'm not supposes to know."

"It's okay. Nothing is going to happen to her." Sam says, brushing her hair back. Her skin is clammy and she glances up at Rick."

"I've treated her for shock." He says, as he checks her blood pressure.

"I'm fine." She says, glancing at Rick before she turns her attention again on Sam. "You have to protect…."

"Arianna is fine." Sam says, laying a hand on her shoulder.

"Please, he will find out where she's at."

"I'll call her social worker and Frank." Sam says, stroking her hair.

"Can I speak with you?" Rick asks, looking at Sam

"We'll be right back." Sam says, pulling her hand free. They walk over to the door and Rick opens it for her.

When the door closes, he asks. "What's going on?"

"I'll give you the short version. About a month ago, she brought her daughter Arianna into my clinic. Her shoulder was severely dislocated. My brother sent one of his men to get her back, which. I refused to do and the man refused to leave so the police was called and Frank came. The man was arrested as was Mrs. Owens for kidnapping and Arianna was placed in foster care. I volunteered to testify on her behalf. Shortly after that I was contacted by a man claiming to be her attorney. We setup a meeting but he never showed. Jeffrey was with me and when her attorney didn't show, he contacted legal aid and found out who her real attorney was. To make an even longer story short, Jeffrey brought in an agent from the agency to be my bodyguard until all of this is settled and my brother was arrested yesterday on unrelated charges."

'Why was she arrested and charged with kidnapping?"

"She kept Arianna past the time for her visitation. Her father has custody of Arianna with visitation setup for her mother. I am assuming that when she didn't bring Arianna back on time, her father called the police and when Frank was called, he found out about her father's complaint and I assume charges were brought against Mrs. Owens for failing to return her on time."

"She said that Arianna's father was the one that attacked her. Do you think it was him or was she confused because of the beating?"

"No, she's not confused. Arianna's father was probably following orders given by my brother."

"I don't understand. Your brother is in jail."

"He's in jail, that doesn't mean he can't order someone to do something like this."

"You make him sound like he's a criminal, a mobster or something."

"I guess he is a criminal. He's not a mobster, but he's not above bribery, blackmail or intimidation to make someone do what he wants. He learned it from my father." Sam says, reaching up to rub her face. "If she didn't tell her ex where Arianna is, then it's likely that someone else will be sent to get the information and this time they won't stop until she gives them what they want."

"Do you think they would actually kill her?"

"I want to say no, but I can't say for sure. You need to call Frank and tell him what happened. Come to think of it, I'm surprised he was able to get to her."

"Why?"

"The last time I saw her, she was still in jail. I didn't realize she had been arraigned or released."

"Do you want to take over the case? She obviously trusts you."

"No, it's a bit of a conflict of interest. I'm personally involved with her. You're able to take care of her and I'll make sure she understands all that. Jeffrey is already nervous about me being involved with this, which is why I have a bodyguard. Let me talk with her and then I'll go." She says, as Rick nods.

"I'll leave you alone while I get her admitted."

'Thank you Rick." Sam says, holding out her hand. They shake hands and he leaves as Sam pushes the door open. She walks quietly into the room. Mrs. Owens has her eyes closed as Sam walks up, she opens them.

"I'm awake." She says softly.

"Dr. Bauer has gone to start the process to get you admitted. He's going to continue with you."

"Why can't you?"

"It's unethical. I am personally involved with you and your case so it's a conflict of interest. Dr. Bauer is a very good doctor. He's going to contact Frank and they'll make sure nothing else happens."

"What about Arianna?"

"I'll take care of that personally." Sam says, taking her hand. "Don't worry Mrs. Owens…."
"If you're personally involved with this, you should know my name. It's Deborah. I knew your mother before she passed. She was a very good woman."

"Yes she was." Sam says quietly. "You need to rest now. Dr. Bauer will be in a few moments to check on you."

"Okay." She says softly, closing her eyes. Sam leaves quietly.

Julien is waiting in the hall outside the ER when Sam comes out. "Is everything alright, Ma'am?" He asks.

"She's stabilizing and Dr. Bauer will take excellent care of her so there is little I can do for her. But there is something you can do for her."

He looks confused as he asks. "What's that?"

"Stay here and guard her, she needs protection, certainly more than I need it. She's completely unprotected." She says, as he shakes his head no.
"I'll be fine. I'm going straight home so nothing will happen to me."

"Ma'am I cannot leave you. I'm sworn to protect you and your husband would kill me." He says, still shaking his head no.

"At least stay until Frank brings her protection. And you'll be back at the house before Jeffrey gets home and if you're not I'll handle him."

"Ma'am, your husband is not someone that I want to be mad at me."

"I can handle my husband."

"That may be true, but I'm still not going to let you be kidnapped or anything else for that matter. I'm sure the hospital will provide protection for your patient. Besides the fact is, your husband will kill me if anything happened to you."

"I will handle Jeffrey. You stay here and guard her."

"Ma'am."

"Julien, I'm going to my car." She pauses to check her watch. "And if I hurry I'm going to see my husband and then I'm going home. I will be perfectly fine and he will not do anything to you." She says, as Julien gives her skeptical look. "It will be fine. She needs you more than I do right now."

"I agree she needs protection, but you're not safe either."

"I will be fine." She says, turning to leave. He takes a step to follow her, but she looks at him and he stops. She leaves a few moments later.

Outside, she pulls her coat around her as she walks to her car. Scanning the area as she walks, she makes it to her car and gets in. Starting the car, she backs out. As she leaves the parking lot another car falls in behind her with Josh and Billy following them. As they pull up to a red light. The man behind Sam puts his car in park. Billy and Josh watch as he gets out and walks towards Sam's car.

"What is he doing?" Billy asks.

"I don't know." Josh answers, still watching him.

In a few seconds, they have their answer when the man opens Sam's door. Reaching for her, he pulls her from the car. "He's trying to kidnap her." Billy says, opening the door as Josh puts the truck in park. Billy is already around the truck and walking towards them when he gets out. "Hey, what do you think you're doing?"

The man spins around. "He's got a gun Billy." Sam yells.

"Step back." The man says, pulling the muzzle from her side and pointing it at her head. "She's coming with me."

Billy is big enough to block the man's view of Josh. Crouching down, Josh slips between the two cars and crouching low walks down the side of the car. The kidnapper is parked to close to Sam. He continues around Sam's car. As he passes her car door, he glances inside and sees her purse open on the other seat. As clear as day, is a small .25 caliber hand gun. He stops and reaches in. Billy sees him but his expression doesn't change, keeping his focus on Sam and the kidnapper.

"I said step back." The kidnapper says. "I'm putting her…."

"You're not taking her anywhere." Billy says, holding his ground.

"I will kill her."

"Not before I kill you." Josh says, walking up behind him and pressing Sam's gun into his neck.

The kidnapper freezes and his hold on Sam's arm loosens slowly. When he lets her go, she takes a step back towards Josh. "Billy, take his gun." Josh says. Walking up, Billy takes his gun. "Check on Sam and then call the police. You have to be incredibly desperate or stupid to try and kidnap someone at a red light." Josh says to the kidnapper as Billy walks around him.

Sam is leaning against her car, shaking. "It's alright." He says, taking her in his arms.

"He came out of nowhere. I was looking for my cell phone and the next thing…."

"It's alright." Billy says, holding her.

"I just left the hospital. I was going to see Jeffrey. I didn't think…."

"Shhh, it's okay." He says, releasing her. "Here, sit down. I need to check with Josh." He steps back as she sits down.

"No, wait!" She says, reaching for him.

"I'm right here." He says, holding her hand as he turns to see Josh still holding the gun on the kidnapper. In the distance, you can hear sirens.

"I think someone called the police." Billy calls to Josh.

"I just did." He says, holding up his phone. Billy nods.

"It's going to be okay." He says, kneeling in front of Sam.

She's crying softly as Josh calls out. "Is she okay?"

"She's scared and maybe in shock."

"I want Jeffrey." She says, looking at Billy.

"We'll take you to him as soon as the police get here." Billy says, reaching up to wipe away her tears.

Sam looks at him for a moment and then she glances at Josh and the kidnapper. Something about the man catches her attention. "Wait." She says, moving to get up.

"Where are you going?"

"I want to talk to him."

"I don't think that's a good idea." Billy says, moving to block her. She walks around him.

He follows close behind her as she walks up. When she looks at him, she barely recognizes him. "Rhett, really. You just tried to kidnap me." He looks at her but doesn't answer her.

"You're a lying whore." Rhett spits out. Josh and Billy both take a step towards him, but Sam holds up her hand.

"We were friends Rhett. You swore to protect me and Megan. Do you remember that? How could…?" And then she realizes what's going on. You tell my brother, he can send as many of his men as he wants. I'm not coming back and I will testify for Arianna's mother. And you can tell her father, he's a faithless fool." Sam says, as a squad car pulls up.

"What's going on?" The officer asks walking up as Sam steps back.

"This man tried to kidnap me with a gun." She says, staring at Rhett. "And they stopped him." Billy reaches behind him.

"Hold on." The officer says, looking at Billy.

"I'm only going to give you the gun he used." Billy says, slowly bringing the gun out and holding it out to the officer by the barrel.

"Is this gun yours Sir?" The officer asks, as Rhett stares at Sam. "I asked you a question Sir?"

"You were mine." He says, looking at Sam and ignoring the officer.

She looks at him a little surprised. "I was never yours Rhett." She says.

"Your father…."

"My father was a lying bastard." Sam says, looking away.

Rhett moves to get up but Josh restrains him with the gun before the officer takes it away from him. "Whose gun is this?"

"It's mine." Sam says.

"Do you have a permit to carry a gun?" The officer asks, looking at her.

"My Id is in my purse." Sam says.

"I would like to see it." The officer says, as Sam nods. She walks away as the officer turns to Rhett.

"Sir, did you try to kidnap her?"

"I have no idea what they're talking about. I was sitting at the light and these two came out of nowhere and tried to take her…." Sam walks up.

"Shut up Rhett, you were always a bad liar."

"Do you know this man?"

"Yes. His name is Rhett Augustus and he works for my brother."

"And who is your brother?"

"Jeremiah Whitmere, he was arrested yesterday morning on federal charges." Sam says, handing the officer her id and badge from the agency.

"You're the mayor's wife." The officer says, looking at Sam.

"Yes, Jeffrey is my husband."

"And this man tried to kidnap you, why?"

"I don't know for sure, but he was probably ordered to by my brother because I volunteered to testify in an upcoming trial that involves an ex-member of his organization and ex her husband."

"What's the trial about?" The officer asks, as Josh notices Sam's reaction to the questions.

"Officer, does that really matter. We saw him try to kidnap her. She's shown you her id and has cooperated. Can you not speak with her tomorrow?" Josh asks.

"I need your statements as well."

"We'll be happy to give them to you, but she needs to go home. She's pregnant. You can at least do that." Billy says.

"She can't go home. You all will need to come to station. Sir, please turn around. You're under arrest for attempted kidnapping with special circumstances…."

"You're arresting me based on their word?" Rhett demands. The officer ignores him and continues.

"You have the right to remain silent. If you give up that right, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided to you by the court. Do you understand these rights as I have explained them?"

"I can't believe you're arresting me because she's the mayor's wife and their word. I didn't…."

"Do you understand your rights, Sir?" The officer asks, turning him around and putting the cuffs on him.

"Yes, I understand my rights. This isn't over Sam. You know what will happen."

"I don't think it's wise to threaten me Rhett after you've just been arrested." Sam replies, as the officer leads him back to the squad car.

"If you all will follow me to the station." He says, putting Rhett in the back seat.

They all nod as the officer gets into his car and leaves. "Billy maybe you should drive her." Josh says, looking at him.

"I'm perfectly capable of driving myself, Josh." Sam says.

"It's better if Billy drives." He says, looking at her. "Besides, Jeffrey would kill us if anything else happens to you today. He's already going to go through the roof because of this alone."

"You have no idea." Sam says, turning to Billy. "If you put one scratch on her…."

"You're worried about your car. Someone just tried to kidnap you." Billy says.

"This isn't just a…"

"I promise I won't put a scratch on it or dent in it." He says, holding his hand out. Turning, Sam walks towards the car with Billy following her. He opens her door and then closes it, before walking around the car. Josh is already in their truck. Starting the car, he pulls away with Josh behind them. "Maybe you should call Jeffrey." He says, as Sam looks at him.

She didn't want to call him, but she knew he was right. If she didn't call, he would call Julien and find out that she had left him at the hospital, which would be far worse for both of them than him finding out from her. Reaching for her purse, she digs around until she finds her cell phone. Pulling it out, she finds his contact info and sends the call. After a couple rings, he picks up. "Hello."

"Hi." She says quietly.

"Where are you? I came home expecting you to be here and Leah said you went to the hospital. Are you okay. Is the baby…?"

"I'm fine. I went to the hospital because someone attacked Arianna's mother. They beat her up really bad. The hospital called me when she was brought in."

"Is she alright?"

"Dr. Bauer is taking care of her, so I'm sure she'll be fine."

"When will you be home?" For a moment she pauses and he goes on alert. "Sam?"

"I won't be home until a little later." She hedges, trying to avoid what she knew she couldn't avoid.

"Why?" He asks, pressing her.

Sighing, she says. "Because I'm with Billy and Josh and we're on our way to the police station." She says quickly.

"You're on your way to the police station, why? What happened?"

"Please do not freak out on me. I'm perfectly safe and nothing happened."

"Sam, why are you with Josh and Billy and why are you on your way to the police station with them?"

"I was on my way home from the hospital when a man tried to take me from my car. Josh…."

"What! How in the hell did that happen? Where is Julien? Leah said he…."

"He stayed at the hospital."

"He did what! Why would he do that, he knows…!"

"He did it because I told him to. Please don't freak out, Deborah needed him more than….
Jeffrey gets up and walks over to his coat. "Hold on." He sets the phone down and then pulls his coat on. "I'll meet you at the police station." He says, hanging up before she can answer him.

Sam hangs up and then glances at Billy. "He's mad." Billy says, as he makes the turn onto the street leading to the police station.

"Ummm, yeah I would say he's mad." She replies, glancing at him. "He would never hurt me. He might hurt Julien, but he won't hurt me." She says, laying her head against the window and closing her eyes.

A few moments later, Billy pulls up outside the police station. Josh pulls up beside them. He gets out and opens Sam's door as Billy turns the car off. Helping her out, he walks with her to the back of the car as Billy gets out, falling in on the other side of her. "Did someone at least call Jeffrey?" Josh asks.

"Yes." Sam says quietly. "He's on his way here. Let's get this over with, so that I can go home." She says, walking towards the station. Billy and Josh follow her.

When they walk in Frank is at the duty desk. He turns around when he hears Sam's voice. "Sam, what's wrong?" He asks when she reaches him.

"My brother sent someone to try kidnapping me." She says, as the arresting officer walks up.

"Chief." He says, as Frank glances at him.

"Just a moment." He says, looking at Sam. "What do you mean someone tried to kidnap you? And what does your brother have to do with it?"

"I went to the hospital to check on a patient, well I went to check on Deborah Owens…."

"Frank, can we find some place for her to sit down?" Billy asks, interrupting her.

"Of course, come to my office." Frank says, turning to walk away with all of them following him. When they reach his office, he nods to his secretary and she follows them all inside. As he walks around his desk, he notices the officer with him. "What do you want Briggs?"

"He was the arresting office." Sam says, sitting down beside the door.

"Oh." Frank says, leaning against his desk in front of Sam. Billy and Josh take other chairs as Frank asks. "So, tell me what happened, start at the beginning."

"I was at home earlier with my sister when my PA came to find me. Cedars had called to let me know that Mrs. Owens was brought in. She had been beaten really badly. I went to the hospital to check on her. Dr. Bauer was taking care of her, but she was in shock. She told me that her ex had attacked her."

"Why would he attack her?"

"She said he wanted to know where Arianna is."

"She's not going to know where she is. She's accused of kidnapping her." Frank says, glancing up at Officer Briggs to see if he's taking notes. He was.

"That's what she told me. She wanted me to make sure Arianna was alright. And I told her I would contact her social worker as soon as I left the hospital." Sam says, reaching for her purse.

"We'll contact her advocate." Frank says, looking at Officer Briggs and he turns to leave. "What happened next?"

"Since all this happened, Jeffrey has pushed for me to have a bodyguard. He brought one in the after that meeting at Company." She says, as Frank nods. "And he went with me this afternoon. I know my brother. He's not above ordering this attack." She says, looking at Frank. "And he won't stop until he gets what he wants….."

"Then why did you leave yourself open for him?" Jeffrey asks from the door.

She looks up. "She needed the protection more than…."
"Someone just tried to kidnap you. Why do you insist on not taking your brother seriously, if you know him so well?"

"You can have this discussion later." Frank says. "Let's get back to what happened?"

"When I left the hospital, I left Julien there with Deborah. I was going to city hall to see you." She says, glancing at Jeffrey and then home. "I was on my way there when Rhett pulled me from the car at gunpoint."

"Who is this Rhett person?" Jeffrey asks.

"He is... was a friend of Megan and me. We grew up together. I haven't seen him in years. He wasn't even there when Mom or Gran died. I guess he left and came back."

"How is this tied to your brother?"

"I'm sure my brother made the announcement that I was to be brought back into the fold. It's likely the reason he moved everyone up here. And Rhett probably volunteered to do it. He probably thought I would just come along with him."

"If he thought that, why did he try to kidnap you with a gun?" Billy asks.

"He had a gun?" Jeffrey asks, staring at her.

"Stop, I didn't know this was going to happened."

"We need to stay focused." Frank says, as Jeffrey glances at him. He looks at Josh and Billy as Officer Briggs knocks once. "Come in."

He walks in and over to Frank and whispers something in Frank's ear. Frank nods and he turns to go. "Was that about Arianna? Is she…?"

"She's fine. Her advocate will protect her."

"Who's going to protect Deborah?" Sam asks.

"I'll send a uniform officer to the hospital." Frank says, turning for Josh and Billy but Jeffrey interrupts him.

"You have her statement Frank. I'm taking my wife home." Jeffrey says, walking over to her.

He looks at him and then nods slightly. Jeffrey walks over to her, helping her up. "I will leave her car in the parking lot." Jeffrey says.

"That's fine. I'll have one of the officer's move it to the back with the cruisers." Frank says, looking at Jeffrey.

"I'll…."

"You are not….."

She looks at him. "I was going to say that I'll move it to the back." Sam says, holding her hand out to Billy. He gives her the keys. 'Thank you." She says, looking at him and then Josh. They both nod.

Jeffrey looks at them and realizes that he hasn't thanked them. "Thank you." He says, before he turns to Sam. They leave.

When they reach the parking lot, he says. "Don't try to leave. I am driving you home." He says, looking at her.

"Don't treat me like a child." She says, walking away from him. She goes to her car and gets in. He walks over to his and gets in. As she's pulling out, he pulls up behind her, following her to the back. He waits for her to get out and lock the car. She walks slowly over to his car. He leans over to open the door for her and she gets in. Closing the door, he pulls away as she buckles her seat belt.

When they get home, he pulls into his space and turns the car off. For a moment, they sit in silence before opening the door. He gets out without saying anything to her. He walks towards the house. She sits there for a moment longer before opening her door and getting out, following him into the house. He holds the door for her. Closing it behind her, he helps her with her coat and then takes his off and hangs it up before he reaches for her. Pulling her into his arms, he holds her tight and feels her relax a little bit. "I'm still mad, but I need to hold you."

"I was so scared." She says, relaxing into him more.

"Why did you tell Julien to stay at the hospital? Why not call Frank and tell him what happened? And why wasn't the police already there?"

"I don't know why the police wasn't there and I didn't think about Frank. I was coming straight to you and then I would be safe. And maybe I thought Jeremiah would back off now that he's in jail, I don't know. I was worried about her. She could barely talk he beat her so bad. And he did it simply because she protected her daughter."

"I love your heart you know that, but you have to think about your safety first. The only reason he hasn't tried to take you before is because you haven't been alone. I'm certain he's had someone watching us since all this happened."

She pulls back to look at him. "Did you see or notice something?"

"No, but it's what I would do."

"Why is he so focused on bringing me back to the fold? He's ignored me for years. He barely spoke to me at Mom's funeral and even less at Gran's."

"Maybe it's because of me."

"You, why would you think…?"

"I'm the only thing that's changed in your life. Maybe that's why he wants you back under his control. Think about his reaction at our wedding and the reception. He was going to take you away then but we stopped him and then I had him escorted from the reception after he attacked you. I'm guessing in his mind, I'm standing in his way."

"But he hasn't shown any interest in getting me back into the fold before now. He's never attempted to."

"That's my point exactly. You're married to me. It's more of a challenge to get you away from me then just getting you when you were alone.

"So you think it's not about getting me back into the fold, it's about defeating you." She says, releasing him. He lets her go but follows closely behind her to the couch. He helps her to sit down and then sits down beside her.

"That's exactly what I think." He says, as she moves into his arms again. He holds her for a moment before he starts moving around.

"What are you doing?" She asks, moving to see what he's doing.

"I'm calling Julien. I'm sure Frank has sent a uniform over to the hospital by now. I want to….."

"No." She says, sitting up.

"He let…."

"He did as I ordered him to do. He's my bodyguard and I told him to stay at the hospital. He was going to ignore me and come anyway and I made him stay. So you're not going to say or do anything to him." She says, reaching for his phone and taking it.

"You were almost kidnapped. You would have been if not for Billy and Josh."

"I know what happened. It wasn't because Julien did. I told him to stay so what happens lies on my shoulders not his."

"If he was any type of guard, he would've ignored your orders and came with you. You were his first priority."

"You're not saying or doing anything to him." She says, her expression stubborn.

"Sam…."

"No, promise me you won't do anything or say anything to him."

"Alright fine." He says, giving in. "Can I have my phone back?" She looks at him for a moment. "I promise." He says. She hands him his phone before she moves back into his arms, settling against him.

Jeremiah is standing in his cell when they lead Rhett by. Rhett glances his way and see the look of anger in his eyes. He looks away.

Frank walks up to Deborah's room. After taking Josh and Billy's statement he goes to the hospital to interview Deborah about the beating.

Reva is waiting when Josh walks in. "Are you alright?" She asks, walking over to him and hugging him.

"I'm fine. I know I'm late."

"What happened?"

"I had to go down to the police station…."

"The police station, why?"

"Billy and I stop a guy from kidnapping Sam."

"Someone tried to kidnap Sam, why?"

"It has something to do with her brother and a patient she treated. The guy that tried to kidnap her apparently works for her brother and knew Sam."

"Is she okay?"

"She was shaken up and Jeffrey was furious."

"Where was her bodyguard?"

"He was with her at the hospital but not when this happened."

"He left her alone!"

"She apparently told him to stay at the hospital with the mother of her patient. I don't know all the details about that. Frank interrupted before they got into that. Let me get a quick shower and we'll go get something to eat."

"It's past the reservations at Towers."

"We'll go to Company or somewhere else. I won't be long." He says, moving for the stairs. She follows him.

"Did they arrest the guy that tried to kidnap her?"

"Yes, Sam seems convinced that her brother sent him. And apparently this guy was friends with Sam and her sister when they were younger. Sam said something about him swearing to protect both of them." He says, walking into the bedroom.

"It's weird how her brother treats her, like she's property or something."

"How do you know so much about it?"

"She's said a few things when she's been around. And you weren't at their wedding, but he tried to force her to leave before the wedding and then at the reception, he called her whore in front of everyone after he found out that she was pregnant."

"He actually called her a whore?" Josh says, turning to look at her.

"That's when Jeffrey had him removed. They had security at their wedding and they escorted…."

"Why did they have security at the wedding? Did they think he was going to cause problems? If they thought that, why did they invite him?"

"I don't know. But I don't think that's why they had security, Olivia was still around then, remember." She says, as Josh walks into the bathroom. "I don't know this for sure, but I don't think they invited him." She calls.

Ten minutes later, he comes out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist. "So the security was probably for Olivia and her brother turned out to be the issue." He says, drying his hair with another towel.

"Yes, I suppose so. But Sam was totally mortified and so embarrassed. She left the reception. He not only called her a whore in front of everyone but he also said that their father had called her slut. I mean who talks like that about their daughter."

"Do you want to try for Towers?" He asks, sticking his head out of the closet.

"No, we've missed the reservation. Company's alright." She says, as he nods. "So what happened at the police station?"

"Nothing really, like I said Sam gave her statement and in the middle Jeffrey shows up. He's upset about the kidnapping and wanted to know why Sam continues to ignore how dangerous her brother is, if she knows him so well. They argued for a little bit before Frank steps in and puts the focus back on the attempted kidnapping. After Sam gave her statement, Jeffrey insisted on driving her home, so she left her car in the back lot with the rest of the police cars for the night."

"I hope he doesn't fight with her." Reva says, as he comes out of the closet with his boots.

"If he does, he has a right too."

"She's pregnant and she was almost kidnapped, by someone that she knew and that kidnapping was ordered by her own brother. I think she's had enough to deal with without Jeffrey fighting with her."

"She had a bodyguard. She left him at the hospital to guard the mother of a patient she has who was attacked apparently by her ex-husband. She should've stayed out of it or called Frank. I can understand why Jeffrey's upset. And if it were me, her bodyguard wouldn't be her bodyguard anymore and he might get more than just fired."

"I get that he's upset, but Sam has more to lose."

"She has more to lose, that's his child she's carrying."

"It's hers too and she's a trained federal agent."

"That training didn't do her any good this afternoon."

"Are we really going to fight about Jeffrey and Sam and whether they are fighting?" She asks, looking at him.

"We're not really fighting." He says, walking over to her. "We have a date planned and I think it's time we go." He says, as she looks up and smiles.

"Good answer." She says, as he takes her hand and leads her out of the bedroom.
