A Fresh Start

Chapter Two Hundred Sixty

Lying beside him with her head on his chest, Richard lightly plays with her hair. "You realize that the boys are in their rooms and we'll have to get up and put them to bed." He says, quietly.

"I know, but it's fun to do this." She says, lightly kissing his chest. "We used to do this at the palace."

"Not as much I would've liked, I promise you." He says, turning his head and kissing the top of hers.

She rests her chin on his chest and then looks up at him. "We were really busy."

"And what are we going to do when I'm Mayor, if I'm mayor."

"No, you're going to be mayor and we'll find time. I don't think running Springfield will be as hectic as running San Cristobel."

"Maybe." He says, pulling her up and over him.

Catching her mouth, he kisses her as he wraps his arms around her, holding her tightly. She settles against him, kissing him back. When the need for oxygen becomes desperate, he pulls away and smiling at her. She's leaning back down when there's a soft knock on the door. "Mommy." Will calls.

Leaning her head against his chest, she sighs as he knocks again. "I'll get it." Richard says.

"No, he's asking for me. I'll be quick." She says, kissing him quickly before she pulls away. Grabbing her robe, she shrugs it on as she walks across the room, Tying the belt before she opens the door. "What's wrong sweetie." She says.

"I want to play with Rj's DSI, but he won't let me."

"Okay, I'm coming." She pulls the door closed. She walks down the hall and into Rj's room. "Rj." She says, as she walks in.

"He can't play it." Rj says, glaring at Will.

"You can let him play with your DSI." Cassie says, looking at him.

"No, it won't work. He wants to play one of his games but it won't play on my DSI." He says, pointing to the game in Will's hand.

"Will."

"It'll work..."
"No, it won't. It's from a whole different player." Rj says, explaining the problem to Cassie.

"Did you tell him that?"

"Of course I did." Rj says, as she looks at Will.

"Will."

"He said it wouldn't work." Will mumbles.

"Alright, if that game won't work then you will have to play it on your player."

"His is better."

"Will!"

"Yes ma'am."

"And the next time, listen to your brother."

"Yes ma'am." He mumbles.

"It's actually time for you both to get ready for bed."

"But..."
"Will."

"Yes ma'am." He replies, going to his room while Rj, gets his pajama's out.

Cassie goes back to their bedroom, leaving the door open for the boys to come in and tell them good-night. When she walks in, Richard is leaning against his their head board. "What was the problem?"

"He wanted to play one of his games on Rj's DSI but the systems aren't compatible."

"And Rj told him this?" Richard asks.

"Yes, but Will didn't believe him so he came to us."

Sighing, Richard looks at her. "Maybe we should limit the video games for a while. They spend most of their time playing those than they do playing with each other."

"It's a little cold for them to be playing outside right now and..."

"I'm not talking about them playing outside. I just think they should play with each other. Edmund and I..." He stops and sighs.

"It's okay to talk about you and Edmund. You were close when you were Will and Rj's age. You played together, mostly because you didn't have anyone else, or anything else to play with."

"Will and Rj aren't that far apart in age."

"No, they're not and they do play together. I think tonight was about Will wanting what Rj has."
"Maybe we should get him one too."

"And when does that stop. We get Rj something new, so we have to get Will something and vice versa. I think right now, Will should be happy with what he's got and if we decide to we could look into getting one for his birthday or Christmas. But we can't do it right now. It'll be like rewarding him for what he just did."

"Alright." Richard says, leaning up to kiss her.

"Mommy." Will says, standing at the door.

"Come on in." Richard says, as Cassie sits back.

Will walks over to their bed and climbs up. Settling next to Richard, he looks at his Daddy and then Cassie. "I'm in trouble." He says, looking at both of them.

"Why would you think you're in trouble?" Richard asks.

"Because I wanted to play with Rj's DSI and I told on him when he wouldn't let me play with it after he told it wouldn't work with my game."

"And why did you do that?"

\ Will thinks for a moment and then he says. "I just wanted to play with his DSI. It's great, so much better than my player."

"But didn't he tell you that your game wouldn't play in his player?" Richard asks.

"Yes, but I thought he was just telling me that because he didn't want me to play with it."

"You're not in trouble." Richard says, as Rj walks into the room. "Come here Rj." He says, patting the bed beside Will. Rj walks over to the bed and climbs up. "Like I was saying, Will, you're not in trouble. But I think you and your brother are spending too much time playing video games and not enough time playing together. So I think that from now on you both can play them one hour during the week and a couple hours on the weekend." Rj opens his mouth but Richard holds his hand up. "You guys can decide how you want to divide that up, but it's only an hour a day during the week and a couple hours on the weekends, understand."

"Yes sir." They both mumble.

"Give your Daddy a hug and kiss." Cassie says, as the boys scramble to hug Richard.

"Night boys, and I love you."

"Night daddy, love you too." They both reply as they slide off the bed. Cassie follows them out of the room.

"Rj go on to your room and I'll be in to tuck you in." She says, as he nods. He walks into his bedroom as Cassie follows Will into his. After flipping on his night light and tucking him in, she leans over and kisses his forehead. "Good-night baby boy."

"I'm not a baby."

"You're my baby and you always will be, no matter how big or how old you get, so get used to it." She says, kissing his nose.

"Love you Mommy." He says, around a yawn.

"Good-night and I love you too." She tucks the cover around him and then leaves the room, leaving the door partially open. She walks across the hall. Rj's already in bed and waiting for her. "You're too big now to let me tuck you in." She says, coming over to his bed as he nods and she smiles. Leaning in, she kisses his forehead and then tugs the covers up before she stands up. "Do you want your light...?" She looks at him and sees him nod. "Alright, I'll turn it on." She says, walking over to the light and flipping it on. "Good-night little man."

"Good night Mommy, I love you."

"I love you too." She says before she walks out and pulls the door partially closed.

Richard is laying down when she comes back. Slipping into the bed beside him, she turns to him. He lifts his arm and she moves over to him, laying her head back onto his chest as he wraps and arm around her.

The credit role on the movie they had been watching. Looking down, Jeffrey smiles when he sees the Sam has fallen asleep. Settling back, he watches her sleep. There have been a few times he's caught her doing this. Sam is different, more gorgeous than the woman he ran around Europe and South America with. Where Rebeca had been beautiful, care free and full of life. Where Sam is strong and proud, confident in herself much more than Rebeca had been.

He still catches glimpses of Rebeca in Sam, but there is a sadness that he doesn't believe will ever leave her eyes. Russia affected her more than just a blown cover and being lied too. She lost him and that hurt her more than it hurt him. She hadn't been able to move past what they had. She clung to him and the feelings they had for each other. Living her life alone. That was the sadness in her eyes and maybe feelings of futility for the years they spent apart. Reaching up, he gently runs his fingers through her dark hair, remembering the night she dyed it back to her natural color as a surprise for him. How he stood in the window of her hotel room and watched her walk into the lobby of their hotel but never realizing it was her because he was looking for a woman that was red headed.

He's lost in his own thoughts until he notices her hand slowly moving across his chest, gently stroking him. Glancing down, he realizes that she's still asleep and probably dreaming about him. Leaning over, he lightly kisses the top of her head.

She moves her hand to her stomach, gently caressing her stomach with the hand she has just been moving over his thigh. Lifting her head, from his shoulder. He moves to lay her down on the couch. As he's about to stand up, she slowly wakes up. "J."

"I'm here." He says, as she looks up.

"Where are you going?"

"I was going to take you up to bed."

"But the movie..." She looks at the TV.

"It's over." He says with soft smile.

"Oh." She looks at him and says. "I'm sorry."

"What are you apologizing for?"

"I didn't mean to fall asleep. It was your idea for us to watch a movie together and..."

"And you're pregnant, you worked a full day and did a house call for my daughter then came home and fixed me dinner and cleaned the kitchen up. You're entitled to fall asleep." He says, slipping his arms around her. "But since you're awake, why don't we go on up to bed? We can cuddle before we go to sleep." He says, taking her hand. He leads her upstairs.

"Let me go get changed. I need a shower before I go to bed." She says, turning for the bathroom. She's walking across the room when she stops and turns around. "Did you check the locks downstairs?"

"No, I'll go check them and make sure the alarm's on." He says, turning for the door. He goes downstairs while she goes into the bathroom for a shower. He's waiting in bed when she gets out of the shower ten minutes later. "It's all locked up. The clinic and downstairs and the alarm is armed." He says, as she walks over to the bed. When she reaches the bed, he pulls the covers back for her.

Sitting down, she unwraps her hair and drops the towel on the floor before she reaches for her comb. He watches her, as she gently combs out the tangles in her hair from washing it. When she's done, she puts the brush down and then lays down as he flips the covers over her and she moves over beside him. Settling against his side, he wraps an arm around her and lightly kisses the top of her head and she kisses his shoulder. Snuggling into each other, they fall asleep quickly.

The EMT's roll Jeremiah into the ER, followed by two SPD officers. As the wheel him along the EMT's give the doctor his vitals. When they reach the exam room, the doctor asks. "Can anyone tell me what happened?"

One of the officers steps up. "He was found in his cell in this condition."

"Was there anything lying around him?" The doctor asks, looking at the officer.

He looks at the other officer who shakes his head no. "Okay, I want a chest x-ray and EKG done. Also do a tox screen. We'll set him up in a room after we've done the tests." The doctor says, handing the orders to the nurse. "Also get an IV for the hypo-tension and meds for tachycardia."

"Yes doctor." The nurse replies, as the doctor walks out of the room.

The officers step out, each of them standing at the door while they wait for the nurse to come back to take Jeremiah to have his tests run. Inside the room, Jeremiah wanted to get up and go right then, but the cigarettes were really making him sick.. Ten minutes later, the nurse returns with an orderly to take Jeremiah to have his tests run. The officers fall into step behind them following them to x-ray. Again the wait outside while the staff takes care of Jeremiah. When they get back to the ER, the nurse draws some blood for the tox screen and then she leaves.

Shortly after, she leaves an orderly comes up. "I'm here to take the patient to his room." He tells the two officers. They let him in and then follow him as they wheel Jeremiah to his room.

Once Jeremiah is settled again the officers take up guard duty outside his room. During the next couple hours, the medicine they gave him in the ER begins to help and while he waits for an opportunity to escape, he knows he can't wait long because once the tox screen comes back, they'll know what he's done.

A nurse comes in about an hour after they brought him to his room. As she leans over his bed, he reaches up and silently pulls her glasses from her pocket. When she's gone, he breaks them and then uses one end to pick the lock on his cuffs. Once he's free, he keeps his hand in place along with the cuffs, waiting for the perfect moment to get out. Twenty minutes later, he catches some of the officers conversation outside his room.

"...you alright staying here?" One of the officers asks the other.

"Yeah, I'll be fine. Your shift is over." The other officer replies as the first officer nods. "Where is he gonna go." The second officer asks with a smirk.

An hour later, the same nurse comes back in. Jeremiah pretends to be asleep. She stays long enough to do a quick search of the room looking for her glasses before she backs out of the room. They didn't plan on checking in with this patient again until the morning so she doesn't want to disturb him. When she's gone, Jeremiah turns over and pulls the nurse glasses from under the pillow. Leaning over the side of the bed, he hides them behind the water pitcher. He wants the officers to find them after he's out of the hospital. So they know exactly how he got free. Sitting up, he takes a moment to smile.

A couple hours later, he pushes the covers back. Sitting up, he pulls the IV out and then gets out of the bed. Shuffling over to the door, he stays in the dark so that the officers won't spot him. He leans against the wall, waiting and listening. After about ten minutes he finally peeks out the window. Only one officer is outside. He shuffles back to the bed and getting back in, he gets settled before he calls out. "Officer."

The officer opens the door and peeks inside. "Man, I'm sort of thirsty and they left the water pitcher over there." Jeremiah says, nodding towards the rolling stand by his bed. The officer glances back over his shoulder and then shrugs. Walking to the over to his bed, he reaches for the pitcher as Jeremiah sits up, Grabbing him, he wraps his arm around his neck. Holding him in a choke hold until the officer sags towards the floor.

Laying him on the ground, he quickly strips him of his clothes and puts them on. Checking once to see if anyone is in the hallway. He goes back to his bed and bends over. Wrestling the officer, into the hospital gown before he pulls him up into the bed. He turns him away from the door and pulls the covers over him and up to his chin before he walks back across the room, Peeking out the window, he check to make sure the coast is clear before he pulls the officer's hat on and then steps out into the hallway.

Slowly he walks up the hallway. When he gets to the end, he turns right and before him is the nurses station. Keeping his head down, he walks past them on to the foyer between the waiting room and the elevators. Pushing the button, he keeps his head down but stays alert to anyone possibly walking up. When the doors open, the elevator is empty. He steps on and pushes the button for the first floor. When the doors open again, he quickly makes his way across the lobby to the front door. Walking out, he skips the officers cruiser and walks away from the hospital.

When he's could blocks from the hospital he pulls the officer phone from his pocket. He dials a number. After one ring someone answers. "I'm out meet me in the park and bring some clothes." He hangs up and walks towards the park, staying to the shadows.

Thirty minutes later, a car pulls into the park. Standing up, Jeremiah looks around and then rushes over to the car. Opening the door, he gets in and says. "Go." The car pulls off. "Make sure you don't draw attention to us." Jeremiah says, looking around. "Did you bring the clothes?"

"In the back."

He reaches back and pulls out a small bag. "Alright, find someplace to pull over, some place too dark for us to be seen but that I can change."

A few moments later, they pull into an alley between two buildings. Opening the car door, Jeremiah gets out and looks around pulling the officers clothes off, he changes quickly and then gets back into the car, leaving the discarded uniform there. "So do you we go back to the compound?"

"No, that's the first place the cops will look for me. We need to find an out of the way place to hide, someplace close to Springfield." Jeremiah says, pulling the cops gun from the back of his pants.

"Whoa, why do you have a gun? I thought you were getting out..."

"Relax, this is only for protection. Now find an out of the way hotel and go in and get us a room." Jeremiah says, looking around.

The man glances at him and then drives out of town, heading towards Oakdale. About twenty minutes later, he pulls into a motel on the side of the road. It's sort of run down, very nondescript. Jeremiah looks around and then nods. The man gets out and walks into the front office while Jeremiah stays hidden in the car. He returns a short time later with a key. Getting into the car, he drives around to the room.

Both men go inside. Jeremiah closes the door and locks it, before he pulls the curtains and looks around. The room looks dark, and smells of cheap air freshener and stale cigarettes. It also reminds him a room that would be used to film a bad porn movie. Sighing, he sits down on the bed. The man with him, stands by the window, watching the man he's just helped escape from police custody, by extension anyways. After several minutes, he asks. "How long are we going to be here?"

"Not long. I have some unfinished business to take care of." Jeremiah says, laying down on the bed. "But first I'm getting some sleep.

Sometime around midnight, Jeffrey rolls to his side, slowly waking up. When he opens his eyes, he finds Sam watching him. "What's wrong?" He mumbles, closing his eyes again.

"Something is or was on your mind." She says, as he opens his eyes and looks at her.

"Why do you think that?"

"Because I know you and I know when you're preoccupied." She says, reaching up to brush his hair off his forehead. He looks at her and then looks away. "What are you thinking about?"

He looks back at her again and then sighs before he rolls over to his back. "I was thinking about the woman I knew in Russia, my partner on all those op's we did around the world and the doctor that I'm married to now. Who's about to become the mother of my child. You were relentless and maybe a little reckless back then, which is why we were so good together in the field."

"And I'm not that way now?" She asks, as she looks down.

"No, you can still be, I won't say reckless but you're relentless. But it's at a lower simmer than it was before. Maybe we both grew up in the years since Russia."

"Or maybe you grew up after that drug lord cut your brake line."

"Yeah, well you weren't there to keep me in line on that op." He says, glancing at her.

"No, I wasn't." She says quietly, looking down.

"Hey, don't feel guilty. That was totally me, as was Dinah, which got me sent to New York and out of the field."

"You were an awesome DA in New York. I followed your cases, all of them. You had the highest conviction rate that office has ever seen."

"Yeah well, I know first hand what it feels like to see the court system turn the other eye for justice."

She moves over to him and he lifts his arm and she moves in beside him. "Your mother made her choice, J."

"I know she did, but the DA let the men that killed her go, to go after someone else. They let the guilty go for a plea deal and a bigger fish."

"You know it wasn't the detective's decision."

"Yes I do. But I also know that some DA's letting the bottom feeders go to get a bigger fish, justifies letting a family suffer without justice. So they can make a bigger name for themselves." He says, as she leans up and kisses the underside of his jaw

Leaning back, she looks up at him. "Did you shave when you took a shower earlier?"

"Maybe." He says, looking at her.

"Thought you might get lucky."

"Was I wrong?" He asks, looking at her.

Biting her lower lip, she leans up and kisses him under his chin again as he reaches for her. "No, you weren't." She says, as he pulls her on top of him. She caresses him, as he settles his hand on her thighs.

Reaching for the hem of his shirt, she pulls it over her head, and tosses it to the floor as he smiles. "I see wasn't the only one that thought they might get lucky tonight." He gloats, looking at her naked body.

Smiling, she leans over and kisses him softly. "I've had you on my mind all day." She mumbles before deepening the kiss and he reaches up. Wrapping his arms around her, he pulls her down to him. Settling against his hips, she sucks in a deep breath when she feels his bodies response to her. Leaning back, she looks down into his eyes and says. "A little excited, we haven't done anything yet."

Smirking, he kisses her before he replies. "You only have to be, sweetheart." She laughs as she moves on, caressing him. He leans up, lightly teasing her breasts. Softly biting, flicking her nipple with his tongue and drawing wet circles, as well as drawing gasps of suppressed ecstasy from her. She buries her hands in his hair, pushing him to her and silently begging him to continue. They each feel the others passion rising.

She moves relentlessly. He glances up and catches the glazed look of passion and desire in her eyes. He reaches for her mouth as he slips his hand down to her waist, slipping between her thighs caressing her as she rocks against his hand. Leaning over him, she kisses him. Sending shocks of electricity down his spine that settles in the pit of his stomach. Pushing his need for her harder and her body instantly responds to it. Moaning softly he devours hers, sucking the air from their lungs. He wraps his arms tightly around her. She glides her hands down his chest, her nails softly scratching him as she goes. Pulling them away, he slips his back between her legs, caressing her. "Ahhh… J!"

He traces her face with his eyes. Watching intently while waiting for her reaction. A small shiver rolls down her spine. Leaning up, he gently nibbles on her lower lip. Opening her mouth, he slips his tongue inside, dueling with hers as he slides his hands over her body, caressing her back and working around to her breast, rolling her nipples between his fingers. They tighten even more and he breaks the kiss to watch them swell and harden. She looks up and his eyes are translucent with love, passion and desire. She can read all that he is feeling in his gaze. She leans in, gently brushing his lips with hers, as she slides her hands down his chest, caressing him. He sucks in a deep breath when she reaches for him, closing her hand around his erection, moving her hand relentlessly as he arches his hips, pressing into her hand.

"Sam please, I need…"

"You need what, J?"

"Ah please." He begs as he presses his hand against her. His fingers slip inside her as she rolls her hips against them. Pumping his fingers into her as he presses his thumb against her desire.

He plays her softly, caressing her hidden pleasures. His fingers thrusting inside her, bringing her higher and higher almost to the point of no return, sensing that she is close to loosing control he quickly withdraws, leaning in his mouth catching her cries of shock and disappointment. "I need you now, please!" She begs.

"You have me." He whispers back

She moves up, catching his mouth with hers as she moves in. Squeezing him tightly, she guides him into her body. Closing her eyes, as their body slide together and he's barely able to keep from thrusting. She moves slowly working to prolong the pleasure as long as possible. It's not long before they realize they must increase the tempo.

With a touch of his hand, her rhythm changes. Each movement comes quicker, each withdrawal shorter. Sweat and heated passion speeds them closer to the top of their world. Their bodies are in sync with each caress. Each thrust draws moans of fierce, almost painful pleasure from them both. As they begin the final climb, he slips his hand between them, running his fingers over her body, pressing into her desire. Flashes of light spark behind her closed eyes. Bringing his legs up, he thrusts against hers joining them both deeper. She reaches down a little farther cupping him, scratching softly. A moan escapes her as she arches her back. The first wave of climax grips her body. He can feel her tightening grip around him. Driving him over the edge with a loud groan from deep inside him. He holds himself buried deep inside her and he can feel her body tightens even more around him. She collapses against him, her head buried at his neck. He wraps his arms around him, holding him tightly; both of them are exhausted and completely satisfied.

Ten minutes later, he takes a deep breath and lightly kisses the top of her head and she smiles. Lifting her head, she looks up and says. "You're thinking again."

He smiles and then lightly moves his hands down her back. When she shivers, he asks. "Are you cold?"

"A little bit."

"Here lay down..."
"No, I like it here." She mumbles, laying her head on his chest.

"You might like it there, but it's not that comfortable and you're cold. So lay down beside me, so I can pull the covers..." She moves off him and he falls silent. Smirking again, he sits up and grabs the covers, pulling them up and over them. Laying back down, he settles in and she snuggles into his side. Lifting his arm around, he wraps it around her and pulls her closer. "I love you." He whispers, softly kissing her forehead.

"I love you too, but are you going to tell me what you're thinking about?"

He sighs and then says. "I was thinking about why you became a doctor."

"About why I became a doctor, my mom..."
"I know your mom had something to do with it, but was there more there."

"Like what?"

"I don't know. You're different from the woman that I ran around the world with."

"You want me to go back to being Rebeca?"

"No, no. I love you. I wouldn't change anything about you now or then." He rolls to his side so that he can face her. "You fit with me, now and then. I was just wondering why you became a doctor. That maybe you wanted to prove something to both your brother and your father."

"Why would I want to prove anything to them? Neither one of them has done anything to..."

"Baby, don't get defensive. Okay." He reaches up and caresses her cheek. "I was just wondering if there was another reason you became a doctor besides your mother. It doesn't matter if there is. I love you anyway. Okay." He asks, looking into her eyes.

Sighing, she moves closer and he wraps his arms around him. "I went to college after Mom died because I knew that I needed a way to support myself. When I entered, I thought maybe I would study psychology. I thought maybe I would learn about the dynamic that caused my father and brother to become what they are. But when I got in, my interest changed. I was still curious about why they became what they became, but I wanted to help patients, not sit in a room and listen to people talk about their problems when the world has so many greater problems than individuals with a bad marriage or low self esteem. Not that a person's self esteem isn't..."

"I know what you meant." He says, kissing her forehead. "So you wanted to help people, like you helped all those people we saved during our op's?"

"Yes, and I knew that agency needed medical personnel."

"See, I knew some how it was tied to me." She smiles and leans up to kiss him, yawning softly. He kisses her and then moves back onto his back. "Let's go to sleep. We have to be up in a few hours. She moves over to him, snuggling into him. He softly kisses the top of her head before they both fall asleep.
