A little note: As seen on Dokuga. Originally this was a interconnected drabble collection created with the prompts from dokuga_contest. However, since dokuga_contest is no longer running, I'll update as I see fit with prompts I select myself.

Kagome's Sacrifice

"How does this feel?" the healer asked as he gently lifted Kagome's arm and tilted her wrist.

"I do not feel anything," Kagome replied with a deep sigh. The healer nodded and placed her arm by her side on the bed again. Sesshomaru was looming behind the elderly youkai, his golden eyes intently focused on Kagome's mutilated arm. The healer shifted so he could address both other occupants of the room.

"I've done what I can to repair the damage," he started. "But the acid Nohime used is extremely potent. I'm surprised she managed to get her hands on it, for it is also very rare."

Kagome pursed her lips while Sesshomaru's blank expression soured at the mention of Nohime.

The healer continued: "Princess, the youkai of the fortress, myself included, are all extremely grateful for what you have done. The acid is so acute, even Lord Sesshomaru, who has a natural immunity to most poisons and acids, would have died instantly if he had digested it."

"If this acid is so potent," Sesshomaru interrupted, "what does it mean for her arm?"

The healer's expression hardened as he looked down at the floor. "There will be permanent scarring, and there is severe tissue and some nerve damage. I wouldn't go as far as to say that she will never be able to recover full use of her arm, but the likelihood of it happening is low. And even if she can recover movement, she may still not be able to feel anything below her elbow."

Kagome closed her eyes and clenched her left fist as the revelation settled. She did not regret what was she did, she never would, but the reality of her sacrifice was still difficult to accept. She knew what the healer's words meant, even though he hadn't come straight out and said it. A minute of silence fell over the room.

"So," Sesshomaru broke the silence, "basically, you are saying she will never be able to hold a bow and arrow again?"

The healer pursed his lips and nodded. With a click of his tongue, Sesshomaru turned on his heel and stomped towards the door.

"Where are you going?" Kagome asked him. He turned, his expression murderous.

"To the dungeon," was his cold response. "I think it is time I dealt with Nohime."
