Life Debt
Sesshomaru was reluctant to let Nohime go. Which Kagome had expected. However, that reluctance vanished the minute she stated that 'The Mirror was cashing in her favour'. Whatever that meant.
Kagome had never seen her future mate go so pale. And she had never seen such a look of almost longing respect in his eyes, at least not in a context where it was not directed at her. Intrigued, Kagome leaned in closer over his desk.
"Who is this woman, exactly?" she whispered. "If your reaction is anything to go by, I'd say she is Yuuki of the East."
Sesshomaru grimaced. "Let me guess, my mother told you."
Kagome smirked. "She may have mentioned your little childhood crush."
Sesshomaru snorted. "This one does not have 'crushes', as you put it."
Kagome crossed her arms. "Sure, whatever makes you sleep at night, dear."
Giggles erupted from the door that led to the garden. Sesshomaru glared in its general direction, causing two small voices to yelp before eight white paws dashed away. Kagome chuckled at Mamoru and Mayu's antics. Gods, she loved those kids. Especially when they transformed into adorable little puppies.
"So..." Kagome hummed. "Are we going to do as Yuuki asks?"
Sesshomaru sighed. "As much as I dislike it, yes. I owe her a life debt, and she just claimed it. I have no choice."
"You always have a choice," Kagome retorted.
"Not when my honour is on the line."
Kagome rolled her eyes. "Men and their pride."
Sesshomaru stood and made for the door. "We leave at dawn. Prepare yourself and the pups."
"You got it, captain!"
The frown she received induced nothing but laughter.
A/N: I'm really excited about this next 'arc'. Lots of things to happen - including the presence of some familar faces (hint: half-demons, little girls with checkered kimonos...)
