Okay, I'm so, so, so, so sorry for being this late! school's been hectic and I've had a family illness so all of my time and energy has been going towards those. I've gotten an few PMs about the last chapter being the last...I mean I may make ya'll wait, but i'm not evil! Haha, well, here ya'll go, and I tried to make it longer this time. Enjoy! "How'd you know how to give it to me?" I ask, wondering how he knew what to do. "When I got the pint of blood in a parachute, it came with a little instruction pamphlet on how to blood transfuse. It was quite helpful in my procedure." He says with a slight accent to make himself sound like a doctor.
"Well, I am forever in your debt, doctor." I nod courteously muffling a small smile. "The pleasure was mine, milady." He returns as he kisses my hand. "Now, you need to sleep." He says as he pushes me down onto the pillow.
"I'll wake you if anything happens. Sleep well, Clove." He says just before zipping up the tent. I close my eyes and am soon asleep after that.
I wake up the next morning with the worst headache I've had in my entire life. I gently reach up and touch my temple. Without even looking at it, I know it's severely bruised. I sigh and climb out of the tent to go find Cato.
I see him start to make a small fire a few yards away from the tent, and head over to help. I crouch down beside him as he tries to get the damp wood he collected to catch fire.
"You're going to let to dry somehow" I tell him as he throws the used match over his shoulder. I can tell he's getting frustrated easily and I reach over and massage his shoulders to relax him.
He calms down almost instantly at my touch, and I sit down with his legs stretched out. I continue massaging as I see his eyes begin to drift shut. "When did you sleep last, Cato?" I ask gently.
"Yesterday morning, before the feast." He mumbles through a sleepy haze. "Then, you need to rest" I tell him softly as I pull his head onto my lap and begin to gently stroke my fingers through his hair.
"As soon as we get out of this place, you're cutting this hair. I can't stand it long like this…" I say to him, but I know he's already out cold.
I let him sleep for what seems like hours before I have to wake him up to go find some food. "Cato, we have no meat left…We'll need more energy than the little that this fruit will give us." I say while trying to rouse him.
"Fine" he grumbles as he rolls off of my lap. "Maybe we'll stumble upon Lover-boy hiding somewhere." He adds with a smirk.
We eat the last few remains of our fruit and bread, and then head off into the woods. We walk for about a mile before we finally see any tracks of animals. The ones we do see though look like wild boar.
"Walk carefully" Cato warns me as we approach a swampy area. Few walk a few hundred yards up to our knees in who knows what, when we hear it…the snorts of a hog.
Cato freezes instantly and puts his finger on his lips to tell me to be quiet. Wild boars are vicious when attacking. They're tusks are the most dangerous, as they can skewer almost anything with them, including human flesh.
He draws his sword and I, a spear. My knives wouldn't have enough force required to pierce the strong skin. We stand frozen in the swamp, slightly behind some trees as camouflage.
I watch as the lone hog wanders into the clearing directly in front of us and he's big, that's for sure. Cato leans as close to my ear as possible and barely whispers what he want me to do into my ear. I nod in response and get my spear ready.
As soon as Cato nods my way, I throw my spear as fast as I can into the hog's flank. It grunts and snorts loudly as it fixes its gaze on me. It begins charging me, and I keep waiting to see when Cato's going to make his move.
The boar gets close fast, and just as it's about to hit me, Cato thrusts his sword upwards, through the torso of the beast. I exhale loudly as it falls to the ground dead, not realizing that I was holding my breath the whole time.
"What was that?" I yell at Cato angrily. "What was what?" he asks innocently with a small smile. "That thing almost killed me!" I yell again. "Did it now?" he mocks, acting surprised.
"Unbelievable." I say as I roll my eyes and turn around in the muck to storm away. "Clove! Wait!" He calls after me. "What? I'm not coming back until you apologize." I say as I cross my arms.
"Well, I'm sorry. But I had to wait until it was right upon us, otherwise, it could have run off with your spear in it." He says plainly.
"Whatever" I say as I brush past him to retrieve my spear. "You get to clean it." I tell him as I go and find a stump to sit on. "Fine, I will." He says as he lifts up my shirt slightly to retrieve a knife to clean with.
I observe as he field dresses the boar, and then throws the carcass into the swamp away from us. He puts the edible meat into an old container I brought with for the hunt.
Once he has it sealed, we head back to camp. I go over to light the fire, and it goes right up, since the wood has dried out for a while.
Cato skewers the meat onto a sharpened stick and places it over the flames, resting on a rock on either side of the fire. We eat our meal, and then decide to turn in for the night.
I allow him to share the sleeping bag with me, but don't let him put his arms around me, I'm still kind of mad.
"Night, Clove." He says as he gets comfortable. "Night" I respond as I close my eyes to catch some more needed rest.
