Chapter 2
My head...
Yui opened her eyes slowly. The last thing she remembered were those red eyes staring at her. As she sat up she registered a sharp pain that came from the back of we neck. She reached behind and winced when she found the spot it hurt the most.
"I wouldn't do that." Reina said from across the room. "You almost lost your head again."
"Lost my head?"
"Yes."
"Again?"
Reina nodded in confirmation. Yui pulled at the long strands, noticing a white sheen. When she moved, the white hair became more noticeable. Reina approached slowly, watching Yui process this new information.
How...how did this-
"I came up with the idea." Reina said as though reading Yui's thoughts. "The idea was to replace a body with the head of another to see if anything could be done to revive them."
"That's not possible." The words were almost a whisper.
Reina nodded in agreement. "Which is why I never went beyond hypothetical situations."
"But you did this didn't you? That means," there was a cold feeling spreading throughout Yui's body. "That means you-"
"I never tested this." Reina interrupted quickly. The black haired woman steadied herself before continuing. "I was interested in the idea for personal reasons. I...was close to the person whose head you have now. But I never tested this idea on anyone."
"But then why am I like this?"
"My...employer thought that this was a good idea to ensure your survival." Reina's hand tightened into a fist. "He did this without my knowledge."
"Why? Why would he do that?"
"You are important to his plan for the vampire world."
Yui opened her mouth but no words came out. She tried, but there was nothing that could describe the buildup of fear that was trying to be put into words.
"I am very sorry, Miss Yui. Neither of us wanted this."
"Whose head do I have?" Yui asked. Reina had a sudden interest in walls and didn't reply. "Please Miss Reina. I want to know. Someone was hurt because of me." There was silence.
"She was already dead." Reina finally said.
"Pardon?" Yui stared at the black haired woman.
"She'd been dead for years." Reina didn't look at her. "I kept thinking about those scenarios because I thought I could revive her."
"You two were very close." Reina smiled bitterly at Yui.
"She would hate me if she could see what had happened."
"I'm sure she would understand."
"I doubt it." Reina took her glasses off to wipe them. Then she stood up. "I'll show you to your room."
The conversation was over, the look in Reina's eyes confirmed that. It was then Yui realized that she was back on the hospital bed in Reina's laboratory.
"I hope you weren't thinking that this was your room." Reina said. "This is for those that aren't staying long. My actual guests have much more comfier rooms."
"This isn't because I have 'her' head is it?"
"You won't be getting any special treatment." Reina opened the door and walked out not looking behind to check if Yui was following. She was if only because Reina's departure made the lab look a lot less inviting. Yui suddenly felt very uncomfortable in her own skin. The body might have been hers, but she was looking through someone else's eyes.
"Yui!" Reina called. "Your room is ready!"
"I'm coming!" Yui sped up to find the older woman.
She was standing next to an open door that led into a simple dark blue room with a canopy bed, a bookshelf, and a desk all spread out. Somehow the room still looked crowded.
"Thank you."
Reina nodded and walked away.
A/N: I'm still working on this! My interest in Diabolik Lovers has returned and let me write this chapter. Yes, Yui lost her head and vampire magic saved her (along with a lot of plot conveniences). As much as I...tolerate the six genderbent OCs I made for the original "Blood Moon Falls", I might re-work the story to only include three at most and get rid of the others. Unless someone wants to change my mind.
Anyway thank you for reading! I hope you liked the chapter! Leave a review on your way out, I love to read the reviews!
