Chapter 3

"What did you do!"

Yui woke to screaming and crashing beneath her. It had been a restful sleep in a comfortable room, though the mirror on her right always unnerved her whenever she looked over on that side. She still couldn't believe this was all happening. She had a different head, she was being looked after someone who worked for the Sakamakis' father-

A new thought popped into Yui'a head. Did the Sakamakis know she was here? Or were they angry that she hadn't returned? She had told them she was going to buy something, and they'd let her go with a few familiars following her. How long had she been here for?

Her worry forced her to get out of the bed and wander around the empty mansion to try and find Reina. The shouting had quieted down and the crashing had stopped. And then Yui noticed how large the mansion actually was. Every hallway seemed endless. The walls were dark and almost seemed to be closing in on her. But Yui kept walking and soon found a room that had a light on. There were voices that came from the other side of the door.

"You said you would only call if you found a solution to our problem."

"And I have." Reina replied cooly.

"But you also said that you weren't going find a solution because it was too dangerous."

"I did."

"Stop being so cryptic and tell me!" The other person shouted. There was a long silence then the sound of a chair scraping against the floor. "Fine then. We have nothing more to talk about."

"Wait-"

Before Yui could back away from the door, it opened and she came face to face with a masked lavender haired girl who stared at her with an expression of both shock and horror. The girl turned back to face Reina who hadn't moved from her spot at the table.

"What the hell is this." The girl's voice was a low growl and she looked ready to attack.

While Yui was shaking, Reina had no reaction. "Sit down and I will tell you, Lamprey."

The girl let out a low growl but still sat back down at the table. Reina looked at Yui and gestured for her to join them. Every step Yui took was watched by the one Reina called Lamprey. When she finally sat down, Lamprey returned to staring at Reina with a hateful expression.

"So tell me what you did." Lamprey said. Then her voice rose. "Tell me why our dead sister is sitting across from me!"

"Because her head was put on a new body." Reina replied. The black haired woman continued talking over Lamprey's gasp. "You saw my notes, I don't know why you are so horrified."

"You don't know why..." Lamprey repeated listlessly. Then her hands slammed down on the table. "What is wrong with you? Did you lose your mind? You weren't like this before!"

"I haven't lost my mind. I knew the risks. I wasn't the one who did the procedure."

"Then who did?" Lamprey demanded.

"Karlheinz."

Lamprey growled at the name. It might have been Yui's imagination, but she saw the lavender haired girl's eyes turn red.

Reina continued. "I don't know how he did it, so I can't reverse the procedure."

"Just rip the head off." Lamprey snapped. Yui flinched and Reina narrowed her eyes.

"You'd be damaging Suzu's head and angering Karlheinz." Reina retorted. "He was the one that put her head on."

Lamprey knocked the chair she was sitting in back as she stood up and left the room. A few moments later the front door to the mansion opened and slammed shut. Reina sighed and put her head on the table.

"Well, that could have gone better."
