A/N Alright guys you ready to get to the end of this? Well this chapter won't be the end but it's the beginning of the end. So I hope it's all fun for you guys, and I hope the last stuff I want to show doesn't upset people.

Well today was the day, the day that would decide the worlds fate. That wasn't new to most people here, they'd all been apart of world changing events. Silver wasn't, of all of them he was mostly untested.

He'd shown his prowess before, his abilities and the ability to stay calm in bad situations. The ambush showed them that. But today was different…

The team was looking over at the base, in clear views from the sun.

Tails took a deep breath rubbing his eyes "Alright people, this is it"

"We know" Scourge interrupted.

He ignored the hedgehog "We all know what's at stake today, and what will happen if we fail. If we win maybe the future can be changed. But I know we might… lose some people" Tails paused for a moment saying that "I hope everyone is ready for that…."

All of them were quiet just like him, there was no telling what they'd find in there, they'd prepared as much as they could. Now it was time to take a leap of faith, somewhat literally.

"But I know we'll do our best" Tails didn't go further He just looked over the landscape. With it being daylight he had a clearer view of the base.

Large walls, turrets all along them, Robots everywhere in varying sizes, Most likely a minefield surrounding the massive compound, Lazer barriers protecting each entrance. Inside that were further defenses until it reached the actual facility itself. It was white, clean looking. It looked pristine and like it was constantly cleaned.

Whatever was inside was most likely amaze of corridors, traps, robots and any other kind of defense. It was a pretty tall structure as well, towering over them.

None of those outer defenses mattered, what he was worried about were the anti air guns, airships and anything else that was meant to protect the air.

He turned and found the team probably doing their final goodbyes incase something happened. That was understandable. He noticed Fiona was beside him without him knowing somehow.

"So todays the day" Fiona said quietly.

"Seems so" he sighed clearing his eyes with a tired sigh.

Fiona suddenly chuckled and asked "So you still planning to kill me after we kill Eggman?" referring to some things he said long ago when he was still pissed at her.

Tails cracked a smile "We'll just have to see" his tone clearly sounding like he was joking.

She smiled back looking to him "Try to make it painless atleast"

"After all the grief you've put me through? Nah, I'll make it slow. So slow you'll die of old age first" he joked back.

She got his meaning and took his hand "Can you atleast offer me a nice view if you're gonna torture me like that"

"Oh sure" he smiled "There's this land over here, flat grey land, or this land over here, also with flat grey land, but it faces towards the sun"

"Well I'm sure you'll find away to spruce it up with some green right?" she continued to play around.

"Depends if I'm lucky" meaning if they could fix all the damage.

They were quiet and Fiona sighed suddenly with a frown "You know I almost don't want to go in there now"

He looked to her worried, he knew why, she was afraid, of losing, of losing any of her friends, of losing him "There's nowhere else to go"

"I know" she whimpered losing her cool right before his eyes.

He squeezed her hand "No matter what we're all doing this together. We can do this if we just work together"

She weakly smiled "You sound like Sonic"

"I learned from the best" was all he replied with.

Speaking of him reminded her of something else "Do you think you can face him?"

He looked away, to the ground "I have to, that's all I need to know"

She nodded and looked to the horizon, they stood in silence as others said their peace.

After some time Tails sighed and turned to see the conversations were either done or finishing up.

"As much as I like the silence, Silver, it's time to go" he put on his helmet and Fiona fastened anything that looked loose.

Silver gulped looked to Blaze next to him. He didn't say anything but she gave him a peck on the cheek and whispered "You can do this, I know you can"

He smiled and walked over to Tails and nodded confirming he was ready. Shadow walked to the two and spoke "I don't know how high you're gonna be when I teleport you up there, Eggmans field seems very large, so expect to be in the air longer then you want to be…. Good luck up there"

Like before, Shadow was going to teleport them to a location. Unlike the last time the field kept him from teleporting them inside, so he'd have place them high above the base. Also like before he could only send two people, they didn't need to take Nicole since she'd finished her copies, allowing them to keep Nicole out here incase things feel through for the duo. Atleast Eggman wouldn't get Nicole back.

"Ok, I'm ready" Silver said eagerly, this was it. From a boy too afraid to reveal his powers to taking down Eggman and saving the world. It was an extraordinary journey.

"Hey, Shadow"

"Yes?"

"Thanks, for everything you've taught me, ok?"

Shadow looked to his student and cracked a rare smile "It was my pleasure"

With that done Tails gave a thumbs up and spoke with his masks filter "I'm ready to go, we'll keep in communication for as long as we can, we'll find a way to get you guys inside, then we end this"

Shadow nodded and revealed the chaos emerald "You better hurry, once I do this Eggman will surely see the chaos spike on the scanners and send his bots"

"We won't let you down" Silver did one last adjustment to the bag he was wearing filled with all the equipment Tails could make for their infiltration. Even some energy bars incase he got tired with his powers.

Shadow focused on his emerald and after a few seconds he yelled "Chaos control!"

In a flash of green light The fox and hedgehog disappeared.

High above the fortress…

Two flashes of green filled the air and immediately disappeared leaving a fox and hedgehog. Gravity took hold and the two began to descend, the sudden fall upsetting their stomachs for a second.

Tails entered a diving position to increase speed, thank goodness he was wearing his mask, or the air would hurt badly. Silver on the other hand began glowing, his own powers protecting his face from the air.

It the air rushing by would be too loud for them to speak to eachother, but in a second that wouldn't be the only thing making noise.

A few long seconds passed when a single flash from the ground caught their created a barrier in front of them and half a second passed before a loud explosion hit the shield.

The ground lit up with flak cannons trying to take down the approaching enemies, but the shield kept them safe. The concentrated fire would wear down Silver fast though.

Blasts went off against the shield almost continually, the blasts blocking their view of the ground almost enough to keep them from seeing how far they had to go.

Airships began firing at them as well, but Silvers shield still held. Missiles crashed into them and the strain was beginning to visibly show on the hedgehog. He needed his strength for when they landed.

But the two had planned for this. Looking to eachother a simple nod began their idea.

Tails and Silver split up as the shield dropped several missiles and flak rounds sailing past them as the two flew apart.

Silver was able to control his flight much better and moved erratically, he wasn't dodging exactly, just moving around enough and randomly enough to confuse the targeting computers. Occasionally he'd have to bring his shield back up for a moment, but for the most part he avoided well.

That was good because Tails had less control, even with his tails helping him a little he had little control to avoid stuff and Silver had to keep dropping momentary shields in front of him. His only advantage was his helmet could predict safer routes for him.

At one point he didn't adjust right and gasped seeing a missile going right at him, with nearly no time left Silver used his powers to subtly adjust the missiles flight path and it flew past the fox.

They sailed pas the airships, now the duo came back together and Silver created another bubble shield under them protecting them from the airships that were now behind them and the ground fire.

Nearing the ground Silver used his powers to slow them, they could just stop on a dime. That'd be like hitting the ground and would probably kill them, so they ad to slow down as they reached the roof of the complex. Not what either wanted to do, but absolutely necessary.

They could barely see outside the bubble as fire came from all sides, the strain beginning to effect Silver. Sweat clearly on his brow and his quivering hands showing he couldn't handle this.

They landed on the roof. The flak cannons could no longer hit them, thankfully, but several turrets were on the roof and opened fire. The airships above continued to fire, even damaging the roof with the explosions.

"We have to find a hatch now!" Tails yelled already looking around.

Silver wasn't moving fast, his concentration forcing him to focus on the shield more than anything.

In short order the fox found a hatch but was lock so he got out his tools and began working to force it open.

Around him the fire continued and Silver grit his teeth panting hard trying to keep it up. So save himself energy he tried to make the shield smaller and smaller, he wasn't gonna last much longer.

Tails worked as fast as he'd ever worked in his life, unscrewing bolt after bolt until finally the hatch swung open. He yelled "Get in now!" he slipped in as he yelled.

Silver had been right on top of him and took two steps and fell feet first into the opening just as the shield broke. Several explosions echoed behind him as he fell, and it was a bit of a fall.

He landed but immediately fell over in exhaustion panting hard. He could barely stay conscious for a few seconds as he collected air. He felt so sore from that, body and mind.

"You alright?" Tails asked turning to Silver ready to try and keep the hedgehog awake.

"Y-ya…. I'm ok, just need to avoid doing that for a minute, and eat one of these" Silver weakly took off his pack and pulled out a snack and began eating.

While chewing he asked "So what now?"

Outside….

"They made it!" Nicole cheered hopping a little.

Shadow nodded "Yes, now be prepared to be attacked"

The team kept a watchful eye out, but after a short time it seemed like nothing was coming. No eggbots coming from the base, or from any direction. No aircraft coming to take them out, nothing.

"ok I'm starting to get bored" Scourge groaned.

"This can't be right, the only thing Eggman really needs to complete his plans is to kill us and take this emerald" Shadow paced left and right staring at the emerald "He should be on us right now" his finger tapped on the emerald as he tried to understand what was happening.

"Perhaps, he has learned patience" Blaze said coming to that conclusion.

Nicole wasn't so sure "He rarely changes, and when he does it is short lived. Plus his excitement usually gets the best of him eventually"

Blaze turned and nodded but wanted to explain herself "Yes, but think about his situation. He was in a stale mate against Shadow and Silver for two years just to get one emerald. He also has complete control of the world. He has everything to lose, and single rash decision could end his reign. I'd say it's entirely possible that he is afraid to do anything that could compromise his rule. Especially when two of us are in his base" she finished explaining leaving everyone to think.

Fiona looked over at the base and became even more worried for Tails and Silver. If Blaze was right Eggman was going to focus entirely on them before handling all them outside the base.

Shadow growled "It seems we may have underestimated Eggman. But keep on alert, he could be simply putting us into a false sense of security"

Everyone else nodded in agreement deciding it be better to be safe than sorry.

Inside the base…

Tails and Silver had been crawling through the inner systems and air ducts of the base. So far they hadn't found an exit to get into the hallways and get to the next step of the plan.

In that time Silver had gained back his strength, but he was getting a little nervous in the confined spaces.

"Do you think Eggman knows we're in the base?" he asked.

Tails, currently ahead of him walking along in a low crouch replied "I would put my bet on him knowing we're here. It might just be a matter of him not knowing exactly where we are"

Silver wasn't confident in that answer "Or he's waiting for us to enter a trap"

"Please don't say things like th-" Tails then heard a speaker turn on.

Both of them stopped in their tracks hearing Eggmans voice over the speakers.

"Hello pests, I think I've let you infest my air ducts long enough. I hope you've enjoyed this little resistance, but I have tired of your efforts. I've given you plenty of chances to give up and accept the peace I've given this world but it's clear all you want is chaos" there was an audible sigh "Once you two are gone, I'll finish off your friends and finally take my final emerald"

Silver gulped "What are we gonna do?"

"Quiet" Tails shushed him hoping to get a hint of what would happen.

Eggman continued his rant "Well this particular situation gives me a chance to try some of my inner defenses…. What shall I choose? Oh I think I like this one. Prepare to feel immense pain. This special gas is something I made in my spare time. Know that it will cause a slow painful death. It will slowly eat away at your lungs and organs after inhaling. I truly wish I could hear your screams, unfortunately I do not have any recording devices in the walls" he laughed at the intruders "Goodbye pests"

Within a few moments the sound of gas being forced into the air ducts could be heard.

"Hurry get your filter out!" Tails yelled reaching up to his own helmet. He pressed a button that made a small hiss as his helmet closed up completely to keep gas from entering it. His built in filter activated. Hopefully this gas was stopped by filters.

Beside him Silver reached into his pack rifling through for the item Tails had mentioned. It felt like forever but he finally pulled out a pill shaped device with an extension out of the middle of the device that he would put in his mouth.

He placed it in his mouth then plugged his nose with his fingers just as a green gas began to form around them.

Tails looked to the screen on his wrist to see if his filter was being compromised by the gas and was relieved to see it was working. He looked to Silver and said "Don't let go of your nose, and don't speak"

He nodded back at the fox and two simply waited.

In time the two mobians could hear some machines start up, sounded like fans.

Tails checked his wrist again, the screen showing the toxic levels of the gas were going away.

"Looks like Eggman is clearing out the gas, just keep your nose plugged a bit longer" Tails advised his companion.

Once again Silver nodded. Tails kept his eyes on the screen on his wrist, several minutes passed and the toxic gas was gone. So Tails pressed the button on his helmet and a small hiss was heard as his helmet closed decompressed.

He took a deep breath… nothing.

So he looked to Silver "It's safe to breath, let's get moving"

The hedgehog finally took his fingers off his nose and removed the small filter from his mouth, placing it back in his pack. He followed the fox sticking close.

"Ok, so now all we need to do is find a vent and find a terminal and use Nicoles copy to hack into the systems"

Silver was still worried "Uhhh, what if we can't find one soon, he'll send bots up here to collect our bodies right?" He couldn't imagine the doctor wouldn't want dead rotting bodies in his vents.

"Well he knew we are in here, but not where, so we can count on a bit of search time before Eggman gets wise of our survival. Then I guess we have to hope they don't find us before we find a terminal. But they will find us once we plug Nicoles copy, so we may have to hold them off"

Silver gulped "So no matter what they'll find us?"

"Weren't you listening at the briefing? I said they'd robably find us. The only chance we have is if we find one soon before Eggman begins monitoring for us tapping in. Then we may get a short time by ourselves" Tails explained, he was just a little annoyed Silver was asking this during the mission.

Silver figured hurrying up was more of a priority than being careful and vigilant. Like Tails said, the sooner the less chance they'll be immediately seen.

Silver was about to break the silence again but Tails finally found vent. He stopped on the other side and looked through the bars as best he could for any eggbots.

Silver quietly waited trying to get glimpses of his own. Unfortunately with Tails mostly in the way he couldn't see much. He wanted to ask if he saw anything but felt his voice might give them away.

After a few moments of Tails silently looking around he pulled away the grate and started rifling through his pack.

"I don't see anything, so I'm gonna unscrew the grate"

The hedgehog nodded quietly letting the fox do his work. Within a few minutes the screws were removed, except the last one. Tails careful began to unscrew it while holding onto the grate so it didn't fall once the last one was taken out.

With careful movement he got closer, but alas the grate jerked as the screw came out and his lost his grip.

With only a short moment to react Silver reached down hand glowing with energy catching the grate before it crashed into the floor. Inches from the floor it stopped. Both males sighed in relief.

"Good reflexes" Tails complimented the other male.

"Thanks" Silver replied, though his voice was shaky, any slower and the noise would have echoed through out the hallways giving them away. He pulled the grate back up into the vent to keep it out of the hallways.

Tails was first to jump down, his landing was surprisingly quiet even though he was in full gear. His suits boots were designed to make his landings quiet. Silver slowly floated down with his powers.

The two males looked around for any enemies, but none seemed to be around. Good. Looks like their luck was holding up.

"See any signs to direct us?" Tails asked.

"…. Uhhh…. No"

Tails sighed "Thought so. Who needs signs when everything is a robot, or the man who actually designed the place?" Tails asked himself.

"So we're walking around blind?" Silver asked with a groan.

"Yup" the fox sighed back "Alright let's go, and be ready. I'll take the lead and use my cloak to safely scout ahead. You follow whenever I say"

The hedgehog nodded and let Tails take the lead, though he disappeared as his suits cloak took effect.

Tails walked forward reaching a point where the hallway split to the left and right.

Silver just waited unable to see where Tails was, but he kept looking back every few seconds incase something came up behind him. After his fifth look he saw Tails decloak waving him over to follow. The cloak immediately activating again once the hedgehog got moving.

He arrived nearly running into the fox and asked "So right or left?"

"We'll go right" Tails replied "Alright I'm going, keep and eye out"

Outside….

"I'm getting nervous" Fiona said tapping her foot on the ground.

Shadow huffed "We have to be patient, just give them some time"

"I know" she made a frustrated sigh "But, every minute we don't hear from them, it's another minute they could be trouble, or dead" note to self, don't mention dead, her mind didn't want to think about that.

Shadow growled, he too hated this, not knowing anything. Just waiting for something that may never happen, but there was really only one thing he could say "We just need to have faith"

The fox scoffed again "That's such a corny generic line"

"I know, but it is really all we can do" Shadow sighed armed crossed.

"Or just walk away" Scourge piped in, he was given a glare from Fiona, but she was quick to face the doctors fortress again.

The female continued to tap her foot on the floor.

"So, may I ask you something" The hedgehog asked.

She looked at him to see he was speaking to her again. What would he have to ask?

"Sure?"

Shadow cleared his throat, though his voice remained quiet "Do you care for Tails? More than we know?"

"What do you mean?" she asked. She kinda hoped that acting clueless would make him stop, but she also knew he wasn't stupid.

"You know what I mean, it's pretty obvious. When we first met you and Tails, he hated your guts. So much he said he'd be satisfied if you died before he did. But you two get along, very well. Very little arguments, and when you two do it doesn't keep you apart long"

She rolled her eyes dropping her clueless act "You're too observant….." she looked down pausing to answer "Yes, we are. We made up awhile back and well…. Never thought he'd ever take me back after what I did, but he did. We're both happy…. I'm just worried for him. What if I don't see him again?"

Shadow just listened, something his eyes, when she looked at him, showed he knew the feeling. It was foreign to see that from him.

"Are you worried for Silver too?"

"Yes… but…." He trailed off

"But?"

Shadow looked away "I just want to get inside…. To…. Find answers" he kept quiet, clearly not wanting to elaborate.

"Oh, I see" she simply replied, she didn't have the guts to ask further. She felt she wouldn't get an answer.

But it was Shadow who spoke again "They'll get it done, I know they will" he seemed to have absolute confidence in Silver and Tails' abilities.

"You think so? I thought Silver was your student?"

"He is, not as much anymore. I've taught him basically all I can, he simply needs experience now. He can do this, just like Tails can. Besides, I have to believe they can. Cause as of now, they are the only ones who can" Shadow explained.

Fiona nodded, he was right about that, if they failed there wasn't really a chance of making this work now "Just need faith then"

"Exactly"

She slouched not enjoying this. Tails was in there, possibly in trouble, and she couldn't do anything about it.

She looked over to Blaze, who was sitting and meditating nearby, to see if she was worried. She didn't look that way, perhaps meditating was her way of thinking about Silver.

But just before she looked away Blazes face went from calm to annoyed. Her stiff meditating posture went into a slouch. She looked annoyed but eventually sighed. Her face softened after that.

Fiona simply watched the cat try to her calm her mind. Atleast she wasn't the only one who was restless.

The female just sighed and went back to staring at the base hoping she'd hear from Tails or Silver over the radio soon…

Inside the base…

The two males had been travelling through the hallways for about half an hour. They had avoided several patrols, notably the sixe of these patrols were small. Tails guessed that Eggman hadn't put the base on high alert yet.

"We'd have heard about it by now if he did" Silver replied

"No, all his robots are connected, he doesn't need a sound based alarm. He could just press a button and all the bots would respond" the fox replied as he peaked around another corner.

"Oh, ya…. Makes sense"

up ahead Tails noticed a door, they'd passed by several now but none of them had what they were looking for inside. Due to nobody besides Eggman living here the doors were more like just openings in the wall.

But strangely enough this one was closed up. It immediately made Tails suspicious.

Seeing no patrols further down the hallway Tails motioned for his companion to follow him. The two quietly ran over to closed door. Despite there being little in the way of signs this one did have one.

"Looks like we found his server farm, atleast a small one. The fox said, the sign said 'sub server room 5'

"If these are his servers, could we hack his entire army from here?" Silver asked.

"Possibly, it would take hours, having to pass through all the fire walls, and we don't have time for that. If we were at the main servers it'd be a direct connection, with little to no actual protection"

"So why should stop here?" Silver asked in confusion.

"Stopping his army would be hard, he's probably got it on high security. But perhaps we can hack something else. A section his defenses outside, and open a door to get inside, or atleast shut down the power of a door and defenses. Then you can just open the door with your powers" Tails explained, it'd be much easier.

Silver didn't know how that was easier to be honest, why not just make everything at equal security? Just felt weird…. Well he was a computer guy.

By now Tails was inserting the copy Nicole into the door to try and get it to open, since it was locked.

It wasn't hard and after about a minute the door slid to the side opening to them.

The two males headed inside, closing the door behind them. Inside was an entire room of servers. Clearly not a large amount, but enough to run some smaller scale systems.

Tails was quick to find the computer in the middle of the room. There was a password to protect it so he once again inserted the copy Nicole into the input.

A small image of Nicole appeared on the screen next to the text box. After a short moment she conjured a small lever, looking somewhat like a slot machines pull-arm. She pulled the lever and the text box began quickly cycling through letters and numbers. Clearly a visual representation of the copy running through possible passwords.

It earned a small chuckle from Tails, leave it to Nicole to put a bit of attitude into her copy.

He turned to see Silver was watching the door incase they were amushed.

"Alright, I's going through passwords, so we just got to wait a bit"

Silver nodded "So you think he'll figure us out now?" the hedgehog referring to Eggman.

"I wouldn't doubt it, so watch the door" Tails said, he turned to see how Nicole was doing.

On the screen she was checking a watch on her hand as the text box continued to randomize attempting to find the password.

It took a few minutes but the password was finally found and the copy of Nicole smiled and tapped her finger on the 'submit' button. The screen changed to the main screen. The copy walked over to small folder symbol. She grabbed it and began looking through them as if they were real pieces of paper.

A few seconds of looking and she found what she was looking. She ripped out a piece of paper which opened up a new screen. The window briefly was pushed aside so Nicole could be I front of it again then pointed to the schematics.

It seemed they had lucked out, and these servers were the ones that they needed to get everyone inside.

"Great, we can shut down a section of defenses outside, and open a door for them" but then the fox growled in annoyance "But it has to be fast, or Eggman could override us from the master computer"

Silver said "So should we contact them now?"

"Ya, we'll have to break radio silence. Eggman will definitely pick it up, so we got to get moving fast afterwards"

Silver nodded back "Alright, fast, we can do that"

Outside…

Fiona was starting to get really worried, it had been over an hour with no word. Something had to have gone wrong. She was getting more and more restless. Something Shadow was noticing, though he hadn't come over to try and calm her again.

Nearby Blaze continued to try and calm her mind, but was unable to successfully do that.

Scourge was sitting against a rock napping, or just resting with his eyes closed. Nicole sitting down next to him. She seemed calm, and had Fiona been paying more attention to the pair she had noticed Nicole was watching Scourge a lot, despite him doing nothing.

Fiona was about to open her mouth and start complaining when…

"This is Tails, we've got a way in" his voice came over her ear piece. Judging by everyone elses reaction, they heard too.

She sighed in relief hearing the foxes voice, and was relieved even more to hear they had a way in.

"Ok, tell us" Fiona asked.

"We're gonna drop a section of the defense perimeter, and open a door. It should be right in front of where you guys are. But you got to be quick, Eggman will try to override our commands. So get inside fast. I'm sorry but we got to do this now. They will track where we are from our transmission so get going now"

Fiona nodded, despite the foxes fast talking she got the idea. She was kinda worried this would fail, but it was a risk they had to take.

Shadow spoke up next "We're going now, do what you need to do" he then ordered everyone "Get up, it's time to move" he was already walking towards Eggmans base.

Blaze was quick to follow, while Nicole shook Scourge to wake him up. He groaned awake and got to his feet hearing what was going on from the lynx. She disappeared into her handheld, which was hooked onto Scourges belt.

The four of them began jogging towards the perimeter as Tails said "Ok, defenses are down and the outer door is opening. Move it, we'll meet you when we can. Going radio silent again"

The four mobians went to pull speed as he explained that. With am unknown amount of time left there was no time to spare.

As they entered the defense perimeter Shadow found himself remembering the past, two years ago. He had to get those thoughts out of his mind, he couldn't dwell in the past. It was hard not remembering everyone he had ever known be killed here.

But true to Tails' word the defenses had shut down and didn't fire. With no resistance the mobians made their way to the open gate and entered. Within a few moments after entering the gate began to lower.

"Well we're inside" Fiona said looking around for any sign of danger.

"Yes we have" Shadow said, new determination in his voice.

After two years he was finally inside this place. After all his friends dying, after fighting an endless battle with Eggmans forces to stop him from getting all the chaos emeralds, and protect his town. After taking care of and training Silver for so long. He was finally inside this place.

And now he would finish what he and his friends started two years ago. Nothing short of dying would stop him now…

Ah so there's finally the newest chapter. I am trying to focus, but I sort of can't. But I'm getting through this slowly for you guys. I hope thi was good, this was a bit of a longer chapter atleast.

But I might be on this a bit more, hopefully. Anyway hope everyone doing fine and having a good day.
