Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter. Plain and simple as that.
Chapter 4
The fire raced all over Iduna's lithe form, burning her skin and trying to singe her protective cloths. The crowd gasped and Harry dropped to his knees beside Iduna. "Oh Iduna, why did you do this? You knew the fire was cursed."
Coughing, Iduna responded as the flames licked her face, "Because I am banished from the Elven lands, and I am finding no place here that I truly fit. And if my life is a worthy sacrifice for saving Death's Champion, it will be all worth it."
Harry's face hardened with resolve. "Well, as you did save Death's Champion, I will save you from Death." Harry lifted his head, looked up, and roared "Death, I summon thee!"
Everything grew still, all noise had stopped. The shadows seemed to grow darker and the lights grew dim. Then shadows extended out from the walls of the Pit and met up right next to Harry. Slowly, the shadows built up on top of each other, until it had the vague shape of a human standing next to Harry. Then the shadows burst off the figure and the lighting returned to normal. Where the shadows had been, floating slightly in the air, was Death Incarnate. It was a woman, with long flowing midnight black hair, wearing a long black flowing robe which fluttered round her, a simple scythe on her back.
"What is it you require, my Champion?" asked Death.
"This Elf, who has barely known me, sacrificed her life to save me. Is there something you can do to prevent her from dying? She had a much longer life to live and it is cut short because she sacrificed herself for me." Harry plead, gesturing to Iduna.
Death floated there for a moment, then responded, "Shadow Elf Iduna, you, above all others, has the option of staying in this mortal realm, or moving on to the afterlife. But in order to stay on this plain of existence, you will need to pledge your whole soul, your entire being, to My Champion. That is the choice you have, moving on to the unknown, or serving My Champion for eternity."
Flames still licking her entire body, face contorted with pain, Iduna responded immediately, with no reservation, "I wish to live, my Lady. I will serve your Champion."
"Very well," Death replied, "Champion, your scythe." Harry grabbed it from out of the air and held it out to Death. Death grabbed the scythe and spoke, "Champion, hold out your arm. Elf, kneel." Harry stood and held out his right arm. Iduna painfully, with her body still on fire, through sheer willpower, knelt in front of Harry. "Now extend your arms, forearms up." Iduna did, shaking as the pain started to get overwhelming. With a flash of black and red, a small cut appeared on both Iduna's wrist and Harry's hand, the flames dissipating as she did so.
"Elf, cross your wrists, right wrist over left. Champion, grasp her wrists with your right hand." They did as they were told, the fire on Iduna dying to nothing, and Death raised the scythe over their hands, the tip just touching Harry's hand. "Now Elf, do you swear, on your soul and your entire being, to serve my Champion Harry Potter forever, never to leave his service even after both of you pass through the veil?"
Iduna looked straight into Harry's eyes and said, with resolve, "I will." As soon as the words came out of her mouth, a tongue of flame came out of the tip of the scythe and wrapped around her wrists and Harry's hand. Then Death turned to Harry, "Champion, do you swear on your soul to be a good and honorable master to your servant? That you will look out for her needs, protect her and care for her?"
Harry replied, equally staring into Iduna's eyes, "I will." Another tongue of flame came out of the scythe and joined the first.
Death then raised her other hand, "Then I bind the Elf's soul to yours My Champion, she will live as long as you are alive." Then she brought her hand down and the flames disappeared. Iduna looked as she had before the magical flames had hit her. Harry let go of her hands, and Iduna crawled next to Harry's left side and knelt down, her butt resting on her feet. Harry's hand subconsciously went to her head and began to stroke her hair. Death handed Harry back his scythe.
Then Death turned to the edge of the Pit, where the horde of goblins stood trembling. "As for the cowards of Blood Clan, as your Goddess of Death, I command you to either surrender and submit to My Champions rule, or come into the Arena and face my champion with honor." With that, she disappeared in a flash of black. Only Harry noticed that she had turned back into Ebony and had given him a wink as she disappeared.
Everything was quiet for a few more moments before the Arena exploded with noise. The End of the Endless had come at the request of a human for an elf. And The End had given an ultimatum to an entire clan. All of the goblins were shouting and yelling in pure amazement of what had just happened.
Harry let loose his aura, which filled the Arena, and called out, "Silence!" The goblins got quiet almost immediately. "Males of the Blood Clan, you heard My Ladies challenge, what do you say?"
There was some whispering among the Blood Clan, the End of Endless herself had spoken, so they had only two choices, surrender, or fight. They were too proud to surrender, so they had only one option, fight the Champion of Death. They got together and strategize how to defeat this human. They decided they were going to swarm him, after all, how could one human defeat an entire clan of 30 strong Goblin Warriors attacking him all at once.
They rushed into the Arena, HangNail in the front and immediately began to encircle Harry and Iduna. Iduna looked around and said, "Master, what is my duty?"
Harry rested his hands behind his back and said, "To protect my back. Try not to kill them, but you can maim and disarm them at your leisure."
At an unspoken signal, Blood Clan charged Harry, swinging axes and maces and flails and hammers of every kind. Harry took a deep breath, and wiped his hand around, scythe magically appearing in his hand. As he swung the scythe in front of him, blood red light emerged from the blade and rushed towards the oncoming goblins. When the light struck the goblins, their chests burst open and they fell to the ground in two halfs.
Dodging and blocking with his scythe, he continued to fight with the goblins, killing one here and there, blocking or dodging every thrust and slash of their weapons. Iduna calmly fought at his back, blocking their weapons with her sword and occasionally cutting off arms.
Harry played with them for a few more minutes, then he decided to end it. He became a blur, slashing and moving much faster than the goblins could react. After a few seconds he stopped, holding his position, scythe outstretched, as he waited for the second to last goblin to fall into pieces. The crowd was silent, too awed by what they had just witnessed.
Manager HangNail was the only goblin left in the Pit and he was shaking badly. Harry turned his head to HangNail and stalked towards him, like a predictor after its prey. HangNail started backing up and stuttering, "N-n-now H-harry, c-c-can I c-c-call you H-harry. I am s-s-sure there was a m-m-misunderstanding s-s-somewhere. W-w-we can work out-t-t a deal!"
Harry stalked closer a sinister grin appearing on his face. HangNail tripped and started scrambling backwards, "P-p-please, spare m-m-me!"
Harry's grin only grew wider, "Well maybe you should have thought of that before you challenged Death's Champion on his right to his vault. Before you die, why don't you admit to who you were working with and what he offered you." He emphasized his point my slashing his scythe and HangNails hamstrings were severed.
HangNail's shaking increased as he collapsed on the ground. "Dumbledore!" he shrieked, "Dumbledore offered to increase goblin human relations and would allow us some concessions! And he offered to let me manage all of the gold!"
Harry's eyes bored into HangNails, "And for believing in the old man, you will have to die." With a final slash of his scythe, HangNail's head bounced on the dirt floor.
Harry stood up straight and the scythe disappeared from his grasp. Lord Ragk'nok stood up, "The new Leader of the Blood Clan, is Harry Potter, Champion of Death!" The crowd went nuts, this was the first time that a human had bested an entire clan and become the Leader. "Come, Clan Leader Potter, join me here." Lord Ragk'nok boomed, gesturing Harry to join him in the box.
Harry walked out of the Pit, Iduna trailing him a few steps behind on his left side. He walked up to the Lord's seat and clasped hands with Lord Ragk'nok. They then turned to the crown and Lord Ragk'nok said, "I present to you, Ragnarök, Clan Leader of Blood Clan." The goblins cheered, Harry looked out at the crowd and for the most part, the goblins looked to be accepting of him being a Clan Leader. But he noticed that there were a few disgruntled goblins who he made note of to make sure to watch out for them.
Lord Ragk'nok turned to Harry, "Let us retire to my office and we will discuss what will come of what happened here." Harry nodded and followed Lord Ragk'nok out of the Arena and towards his office, Iduna dutifully following behind at a respectful distance.
AN: Hey. Just wanted to say I'm not dead. I'm still trying to work on finishing both of my stories. It's just hard with school and work and this is just a hobby, a stress relief. We will see how long it takes me to update again. Until then, Happy Thanksgiving!
