Hey guys! I am back with another chapter of Through Time and Space: Bad Wolf! So school starts in a few weeks. I can't believe I am a Senior in college now. It's really terrifying and exciting all at the same time. I get my own room in my dorm, and I have the same suitemates as I did last semester! Anyways, I'm watching LilSimsie on YouTube. Enjoy the chapter!
Snakedance Part 4
We were being led out of the building by Chela very quickly. I guess things are already happening with Tegan.
"We must get out of the building at once." Chela says as we walk.
"And back to the Tardis?" Nyssa asks.
"You're forgetting Tegan." The Doctor states. We are soon stopped by a guard with a sword. We stop in our tracks and start to back up. "Back the way we came." We turn and see another guard behind us. "All right, all right, we give in."
"Give in? You talk as though you had a choice. Kill them." A man's voice says. The guards draw their swords, and Nyssa screams.
"You can't do that!" The lady from before yells.
"Why not?"
"It is preposterous to think that anyone is plotting against you, least of all these people."
"Your mother is right." The Doctor says.
"I'd expect you to say that." The man says.
"My only concern is for Tegan and the Great Crystal." Another man comes around the corner with a wooden box.
"Why should the Great Crystal concern you?" The man with the box asks.
"If I'm allowed to live long enough, I'll explain." We are led back to the Director's office without being killed. I hope the Doctor knows what's going on because I don't. Tanha was telling Lon her plans for a ceremony. They included the Great Crystal. "You must not do that."
"And why not?" Tanha asks.
"Mother." Lon says.
"No, no, the man is entitled to his say, however preposterous. Of course we can do it, and the Director has agreed, haven't you."
"The Great Crystal will be returned to its rightful place during the ceremony." Ambril says.
"But why?" The Doctor asks.
"Why what?" Lon asks.
"Why did you request it? And why did he agree?"
"Why not? It is actually one of the few advantages of being a member of the Federator's family." Tanha says.
"But it's forbidden. It's forbidden by tradition going back five hundred years!" Chela says.
"Is that why you propose to assassinated me?" Lon asks.
"I thought we'd cleared that up." Tanha says.
"Who said we wanted to assassinate you?" I ask.
"I'm not here to be questioned by you." The Doctor went rigid by my side. He was about to go off on this guy.
"No, of course not. How foolish of us. I've been very stupid. Do you remember me telling you, Kate and Nyssa, on the Kinda world, the mark of the Mara? I should heave realized." The Doctor says getting more and more frustrated/angry.
"They'd never believe you." Lon says.
"What are you two talking about?" Tanha asks.
"Where's Tegan? What have you done with her?" The Doctor asks.
"Tegan? Who is Tegan?"
"Another one of the Doctor's companions who apparently he has lost." Lon says.
"Why is he asking you about her?"
"How should I know, Mother? The man's a complete fool."
"You won't succeed. In the end, evil never does." I say.
"What does she mean, evil? Who is evil?" Tanha asks clearly not knowing anything.
"Oh, I am, Mother. Isn't it obvious? Your son is evil. After all, why else would they want to kill me. Don't you see?" Lon states.
"I most certainly do. Take them away. Take all of them away."
"No, I think we can afford to be generous on today of all days. At least let them see the Great Crystal just once, just for a moment, don't you think?"
"My Lord." Ambril says.
"Indulge me." We walk over to the wooden box. "That's close enough. Right."
"Shall I?"
"If you wouldn't mind." Ambril lifts the lid.
"Now!" The Doctor yells. Our plan goes into effect. Me, the Doctor, and Nyssa run for the door as Chela tries to get the Crystal. "Come on, there's no time for that!" The Doctor yells at Chela realizing what he's doing. We couldn't stick around for long because we're going to be chased, so we keep running. Chela joins us quickly. We make it to the marketplace and hide behind a stall.
"Where are we going?" Chela asks.
"To find Tegan."
"We don't even know if she's still alive."
"Tegan won't die until the Mara within her is free."
"If Lon has been affected by the Mara, why hasn't he changed?" I ask.
"Same reason as Tegan. He still has a lot of his own personality."
"But he is influenced?" Chela asks.
"Very much so." The Doctor looks over the stall. "Come on." We walk through the crowd of people, but then the Doctor grabs my hand and starts pulling me one way. "In here." He says motioning to a stall.
"It's all right, I think we've managed to lose them." Chela says. Just then a masked figure jumps in our face and shakes maracas at us. "I'm sorry, Doctor, it's just the surprise."
"What is it?" I ask. Just then the figure touches me with one of his maracas.
"You've been touched by an attendant demon. You must forfeit a coin. It's the custom, I'm afraid." Chela says.
"Custom?" The Doctor asks.
"On the day of the ceremony, the attendant demons seek out the unwary. Anyone they touch with the evil must pay up or er..."
"Or what?" I ask.
"Have water tipped over their heads. It's part of the fun."
"I don't have a coin." I say. Chela gives me a coin thankfully.
"Here you are. May you never feel the serpent's tooth." I give the coin to the 'demon' and it leaves.
"I wish it was that easy." The Doctor says.
"Doctor, what are we going to do?" Nyssa asks bringing us back to task.
"How long have we got? When does the actual ceremony begin?"
"Well, first the Great Snake is taken in procession through the streets before going up to the cave." Chela says.
"How long?"
"A few hours."
"I wonder if there's still time. There must be. It's our only hope. Come on." He puts a necklace with the eye thing from earlier on it and leads the way.
"Where are we going?"
"Change of plan. To find Dojjen." As we're hurrying, we hear the noise of the procession beginning. We get to the cave mouth and stop for a moment. "Come on."
"If you'd let me steal the Great Crystal, this trek would't be necessary." Chela says.
"It's not as simple as that."
"Why not?" Nyssa asks.
"We wouldn't be preventing the Mara's return, only postponing it. It would continue to exist as a mental force. No, this time we must destroy it completely."
"But how?" I ask.
"I don't know."
"And you think Dojjen will be able to tell us?"
"I hope so."
"Dojjen hasn't been seen for ten years. He could be anywhere, assuming he's still alive." Chela says.
"You're forgetting we do have this." He says holding up the eye necklace.
"How will that help to find him?"
"It won't. It will help him find us. Trust me." We go into the cave looking for this Dojjen person.
"How far are we going?" Chela asks.
"This should be fine." The Doctor says sitting down on the ground. Me, Nyssa, and Chela follow suit.
"What now?" Nyssa asks.
"Sympathetic resonance."
"Doctor?"
"Thought directed at this crystal should set up a resonance which is picked up and echoed by another."
"So?" Chela asks.
"Well, the Snake Dancers wear these, don't they?"
"So I gather."
"Of course. The crystal will act like a radio wave, transmitting thoughts instead of words." Nyssa says.
"Establishing a mental link."
"Hopefully." The Doctor says.
"Will it work?" The Doctor closes his eyes and the crystal starts to glow. There's a humming sound for a moment, but it goes away.
"Well?" I ask.
"Now we wait." The Doctor tells Chela what we found out in the journal to catch him up on everything.
"If what you say is true, why didn't Dojjen destroy the Great Crystal while he was still Director?" Chela says.
"Good question. Nyssa asked exactly the same thing."
"Well?"
"I don't know. Perhaps we'll find that out too." The Doctor says as the crystal glows again.
"Doctor!" Nyssa and I exclaim. Just then an elderly man with a staff and a bag approaches us.
"Dojjen." Chela says. Dojjen walks over to the Doctor and sits across from him. He takes a snake out of his bag and lets it bite his wrist. He proceeds to give it to the Doctor.
"Doctor, no. What are you doing?" Nyssa asks.
"I'm afraid we have no choice if we're to have any hope of saving Tegan."
"But its bite could be deadly." I say.
"Yes, I do know." The snake wraps around his wrist and bites it.
"No, look into my eyes. You have come this far. You must not now give in to fear. Look." Dojjen says.
"It's the poison. The effect of the poison." The Doctor says.
"Fear is the only poison."
"Fear is."
"Ask your question."
"How...how can...I must save Tegan. It was my fault, so how...how can. Destroyed. How can the Mara? It was my fault."
"Steady your mind. Attach to nothing. Let go of your fear."
"What is the Snake Dance."
"This is, here and now. The dance goes on. It is all the dance, everywhere and always. So, find the still point. Only then can the Mara be defeated."
"The still point? The point of safety? A place in the chamber somewhere? Where?"
"No, the still point is within yourself, nowhere else. To destroy the Mara, you must find the still point. Point. Point. Point. Point." Everything is still. The Doctor looks so still that he might be dead. Please don't die.
"Doctor?" Nyssa asks. His eyes open. Me and Nyssa breathe a sigh of relief. "Oh, thank goodness. I thought for a moment."
"Thought what? No, I survived." The Doctor says.
"But how?"
"I don't know. Somehow he saw me through."
"We must hurry." Chela says.
"Yes, of course. The ceremony."
"Did you find out what you needed to know?" Nyssa asks.
"I think I did, we'll have to see. I just hope we're not too late."
"Doctor." Chela says at the entrance to the chamber. We bow to Dojjen and leave. We go through the shrubbery with some difficulty, but we do it. We go to where the ceremony is and look for a way in.
"The ceremony must have started." Chela says.
"Well, let's hope we're not too late." The Doctor says.
"Doctor, look." Of course there are guards here. The guard moves allowing us to enter.
"Come on, come on. Hurry up." We hurry inside. The guard notices us. "Now!" Nyssa and Chela grab the guard and knock him out. "You left that a bit late." We get to the ceremony as Tegan is about to get to the sculpture. "No! No!" Lon inserts the Crystal as energy comes out towards Tegan. There was a loud noise that hurt everyone's ears. I couldn't hear what was going on, but I could see what was going on. Tegan walks down the steps and puts the snake she was holding down where it begins to grow. The Doctor goes over to the crystal and just stares at it. The snake wraps around Tegan to the point where we couldn't see her. There's some screaming, and then the Doctor runs down the steps and pulls out the Great Crystal. There was more screaming. The snake then dissolves and Tegan collapses. The Doctor and I run over to Tegan to see if she's okay. She was in tears.
"It was awful. It was awful." She mutters.
"It's all right. It's all over now." The Doctor says.
"The feelings of hate and rage. It was terrible. I wanted to destroy everything."
"Well, you're free of it now."
"The Mara's gone for ever?"
"Yes, the Mara has been destroyed." We sat there for a while till we were able to get Tegan to walk. We go back to the Tardis and lay her down. Of course, that was when I started to glow.
"Take care of her." I say to the Doctor before I travel.
