CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

(JPOV)

I took the fastest route to Forks, running with vast speed through the thick woodlands and hoping like hell I'd intercept Bella in time... before she carried out her plan. When I reached the outskirts of the highway, I caught sight of her truck. Her speed making it almost damn near impossible for me to catch her. She was pushing the truck far beyond what it was capable of... well over eighty miles per hour.

She was determined and she was in a hurry to get to where she was headed. I followed her closely as she exited into the busy town, making her way through the streets until she stopped just outside the local bank. I phased back to human form, quickly pulling on my cut offs and watching her as she stepped out of the truck. Her eyes scanned the parking lot and she was fast to approach a red Mercedes that sat across the way.

My skin began to crawl at the sight of a tall Blonde stepping out slowly from the luxury car. Her appearance similar to Rosalie's.

She handed something off to Bella and the two of them quickly parted ways then. I phased back and took off after them as they sped down the curvy roads through town, their shared destination being one I knew well... The Cullen's previously abandoned lair. I lingered closely by the trees, a low growl leaving me as Edward himself stepped out onto the porch, his cocky and arrogant smile making my anger grow when he addressed Bella.

"I knew you'd be back, love. That you'd come to see reason... sooner or later."

Bella ran up over the steps then, shoving into him with such force that it knocked her back a few strides. Her angry screams loud and now echoing around the trees.

"What did you do to him!? Where is he!"

Edward took hold of her by the wrists and pulled her up from the porch. The sight of it making me step forward enough that I nearly lost the cover of the trees. He was nearly man handling her and I was seething pissed.

"Calm yourself, Bella." Edward sighed in a dismissive tone. "There's no need for such theatrics... wouldn't you agree Tanya?"

My eyes locked on the tall blonde who stood just behind Bella now. Her laughter truly shrilling to hear.

"Yes, there is no need for such display. Edward here has done nothing-"

"Like hell!" Bella cursed. "You took Charlie! I know you did!"

The sly look on Edwards face was his only answer... and it was answer enough. Bella became enraged then, shoving uselessly against his granite chest as her screams grew even louder.

"Tell me what you've done with him!"

He took hold of her firmly by the shoulders, trying to get her to see his reasoning. "I did what was needed and what was for your own good, Bella. In the end of all this... you'll thank me. I assure you."

"I will never thank you for anything!" She coldly stated.

"Don't fret. All will be revealed soon, Bella. Come with me." He hissed in reply, taking her into the house by force.

I snarled, inching my way closer and seeing the tall blonde Edward called Tanya now lingering by their open front door. Her golden gaze scanning the forest again before retreating inside.

She sensed that I was here.

She had to.

I listened closely as the conversations in the house carried out...

"Where have you taken my father, Edward!?"

"He's somewhere close by."

"Yes, he's fine... for now." Tanya added.

"-and he will remain to be if you cooperate in a timely manor."

"You can't do this! Charlie is innocent! It was my choice to get involved with you! Not his! Leave him out of it!" Bella yelled in reply.

"Is she normally this mouthy?" Tonya sneered.

"No,the company she's been keeping lately with the wolves... it's beginning to rub off on her."

"The wolves?" Tanya snickered. "They are mere pups... a small inconvenience at best really."

"You know nothing about them!" Bella defended.

"Your precious Jacob? I know more about them than you think, dear Bella." Tanya replied... "My sister will be paying them all a visit soon enough."

I bit back a howl upon hearing this, feeling the Alpha's power threaten to take over and warn the others of this. I fought it off. Just long enough to hear the remainder of their conversation.

"What have you done, Edward?" Bella asked, her tone shaky and weaker now.

"You need to trust me.. Everything I have done is for your benefit. Truly, you will see that soon. There is a deal on the table."

"What do you want from me?"

"It's simple really. I want you to leave Jacob and join me in Denali with Tanya and her family there. They have made the proper arrangements for us. All you need to do is consider my offer and know ... you'd be wise to take it."

Hot anger mixed with tangible agony surged through me as a brief silence settled over the house.

"We would return Charlie to your home here in Forks if you agree-" Tonya chimed.

"-and if I don't." Bella brokenly asked.

"... his blood will be on your hands."

"So you've essentially left me no choice. You're choosing for me?"

"In a matter of words yes." Edward confirmed. "There was once a time... not so long ago... that you yourself were begging me to change you myself. Do you remember?"

"That was before-"

"I left." Edward finished for her. "-but I came back for you, Bella. We belong together. You were meant for me and I for you-"

My snarls grew louder as I listened on... thinking of all the memories Bella and I shared... all the times I had seen our future in her brown eyes when they met mine. A future that was now hanging in the balance and intertwined with Charlie's fate. I became furious. The anger making me see red now. Bella knew what was at risk here and Edward had left her no other option. This was his master plan all along... to keep us apart and take her away from me forever. Pain shot through me as I thought of how this could end... with Bella being a cold one and me without her... forever.

I soon backed away from the bordering trees and retreated further into the forest, waiting till I was a good mile out before letting out a warning howl that echoed off the trees around me.

The pack needed to be ready for what was coming and I had to warn them in time.
