A/N: Well, the votes have been counted and it is time to reveal with winner. So, without further ado, NEW CHAPTER!
Chapter 9: The Choice
Ruby took a deep breath as she approached the Chantry, ready to finally give her decision on whether to go with the Mages or the Templars. She weighted her options again and again, coming to the same conclusion every single time. The Mages were powerful in their own right; being able to control the elements of the Fade and turn them into weapons. Plus there was also stopping Magisters from tearing a part the fabric of space and time, so there was that. The Templars were also a force to be reckoned with; being elite demon hunters as well as taking on Mages with extreme ease. The only issue with them was the Lord Seeker who hated everything about the Inquisition and had no intention of giving them an audience at all unless the Inquisition forced his hand.
She knew what she had to do as she entered the War Room, looking at the two small castle pieces that gave Ruby her options. Castle Redcliffe, home of the Rebel Mages and the holdout of the Venatori, and Therinfal Redoubt, the hold out of the Templars under command of Lord Seeker Lucius. She stared until her Inner Circle joined her in the War Room, eager to hear her answer. Cassandra took her place right by Ruby, a hand on her shoulder to offer her some comfort.
"Well, Ruby? What's your answer?" Josie questioned, ready to send out their messages to any nobles that would lend support to them for either move. Ruby looked up and all of them saw a fire behind her silver eyes, one of determination and drive that they had only seen a few times. It was the fire of a leader.
"The Mages. With their power put into the Mark, we could give it enough power to close the Breach. And if we can put a hole into whatever plan these Venatori are doing, then we should do it." Ruby announced, giving off an aura of confidence as she took a dagger from the side of the table and stabbed it into Redcliffe next to the castle piece.
Everyone nodded, seeing the confidence in her eyes assured them that this was the route they were going to go, and they were 100% behind her on it.
"Very well. Now, the real question is how to proceed about getting into Redcliffe Castle? It is still a fortress." Josie pointed out as she started marking down which nobles that had well standing armies as well as siege engines that could help them with this endeavor. The door flew open, and the man that had warned them of the Venatori threat of Time Magic strode in with fiery confidence.
"Hello there. Dorian Pavus, at the Inquisition's service!" Dorian announced as he bowed before the Inner Circle. Everyone except Ruby looked at the man with raised eyebrows and confused looks. Ruby, however, chuckled at his extravagant entrance, thinking that it was a bit funny for someone to walk into the War Room like that.
"Hey Dorian. What brings you here? I thought you were busy keeping an eye on the Venatori?" Ruby questioned as she turned to face the new arrival. Everyone else calmed down since it seemed that the man was not an immediate threat to anyone, save any doors he wanted to walk through with flare.
"I was, until they decided to bunker down in the Castle. Seems they are preparing something. Probably something sinister involving the 'Elder One' they so gloriously worship."
"Well, good thing we're moving on Redcliffe to knock them from power. Want to join?"
"I'd be rather insulted if you didn't ask me to join."
Ruby turned back to everyone with a wide smile, who were still a bit confused about the entire situation, but chose to ignore it and continue their planning.
"If the Venatori are dug in, it will take an army to get them out. The casualties and destruction will be massive on both sides, and Redcliffe will be caught in the middle." Cullen pointed out. Fighting an entrenched enemy was never ideal. The amount of damage would be far greater than he was comfortable with, and Redcliffe had seen enough troubles during the Blight when an Abomination had started raising the dead to attack the village.
"Then why not go the quieter route? I happen to know of a way to get into the castle without breaking anything, other than a few Venatori." Leliana mentioned.
"Please, feel free to break as many of them as you please. The more, the better." Dorian chuckled since these Venatori were scum to him. His home was far from perfect and already had a bad reputation when it came to the rest of Thedas, and a mad group of cultists worshipping some wanna be god weren't going to help that.
"Do you really have a way in? One that won't involve us basically throwing people at a wall of blades?" Ruby questioned. The last thing she wanted to do was to carelessly toss soldier's lives away like she was some kind of tyrant. The lives of the people under her charge were just as important as hers, and she wouldn't just see them as pawns in some grand game.
"Absolutely. Just some of my agents sneaking through and we'll have the castle before the Venatori even know they're under attack."
"Good. So, I'll take some in as my 'guard' while Leliana's people take the castle quietly. Cullen, have your forces on standby just in case things start to get too hairy for us." Ruby commanded, moving some of the pieces on the board to draw out her plan. Everyone nodded and took notes, ready to put the plan in to action.
O00000O00000O
After a few plan was finally laid out with everyone mustering their forces to make their move against Redcliffe Castle. Ruby went to her room, seeing everyone was there and waiting after hearing the news.
"So, went with dealing with these Venatori wack jobs?" Yang questioned as she started putting on her armor.
"Yeah, they seemed like the biggest threat when it comes to tearing apart time... and the fabric of reality." Ruby replied as she started getting her armor on. She was sure that the Venatori were worse than some power hungry Templars and could be dealt with much easier once they had some power behind them.
"I think it's a good choice. So, who is coming with you into the castle?" Weiss questioned as she grabbed her staff and put Myrtenaster on her hip.
"Well, I was thinking of bringing Cassandra, and well, you guys too... if you're willing." Ruby replied as she readied herself, both physically and mentally. They were about to go on their most dangerous mission yet, dealing with an insane cult trying to bring about the return of a horrid empire under the command of someone named the Elder One by tearing apart the fabric of reality.
"We'll always have your back, Ruby. No matter what." Blake answered for the group, putting Gambol Shroud on her hip as well as two long knives in the small of her back. Ruby smiled, happy to have her team with her as Team RWBY left the room and went to the front of the Chantry, seeing the Inner Circle congregating by the doors with Dorian leaning in the doorway.
"So, are we ready to head for our nearly certain doom?" Dorian questioned as he stood up and straightened out his top.
"We?" Ruby questioned with a raised eyebrow.
"I'm coming with you, naturally. I am the only one other than Alexius that knows anything about Time Magic. I'm your best bet if he tries anything."
Ruby ran through every scenario she could think of, still a bit unsure of Dorian. Sure, he was all smiles and helpful tips, but she was starting to learn that most people seemed to have separate agendas from what she was doing. She sighed in defeat, knowing that Dorian was probably the best defense she had against the new form of magic he helped create.
"Alright. You can come with us. But I doubt Alexius would be thrilled to see you walk in the front door with us, so sneak in with Leliana's forces." Ruby answered, giving him his marching orders. She slightly expected him to argue against it, but instead he smiled and patted her head.
"I was thinking the exact same. Seems to me like we're on the same page without saying a word. I quite enjoy that. Hopefully we survive so we can chat more."
"How optimistic."
The two simply chuckled, thinking their plan was a sure thing, but they all had to be realistic that this plan would end in blood shed for both sides. Ruby's friends and her inner circle rallied around her before the final move, hoping she would have some final words of inspiration. She took a deep breath and gave her piece.
"We are about it take on something big... something that will change the course of history. We are going to move against Redcliffe and take back not just the Castle and not just the town... be retake a piece of Thedas that has been ripped away from us. These Venatori have taken a piece of home, taken the people and turned them into slaves. We will free them from their grasp, free them from tyranny and oppression, and with their help, close the Breach and save Thedas!" Ruby declared as she pushed a fist into the air. Several of the soldiers cheered and raised a closed fist or a blade into the air, several of the Inner Circle either clapping for her or nodding in approval with small smiles of pride. Everyone boarded the caravan with renewed vigor, more determined and inspired to take on this threat than they were before.
O00000O00000O
The caravan arrived just after dark, extinguishing their lights and sneaking forward as Ruby and her friends of Team RWBY strode forth on the path to Redcliffe Castle. She looked up at the castle in awe, such a massive and intimidating building of rustic structure that withstood so much and held so much history. It was like she was looking at Beacon for the first time again, but this was different. Instead of the joy of beginning her training as a Huntress, she felt the dread of going to war and battle once again. Strangely enough, the thought of cleaving men in half and bloodshed no longer bothered her as much anymore... which could have either been good or bad. They arrived at the gates, several Tevinter soldiers flanking the doors and standing on the rampart above it armed with ranged weapons with probably a mage or two following out of sight.
They were let in and brought straight to the throne room that was as large as Beacon's main hall with stone columns supporting the ceiling and a large red carpet leading all the way to the raised throne area with a large fireplace behind it. On the throne sat Alexius, flanked by former Grand Enchanter Fiona on his right and Felix on his left, and he looked rather pleased with himself, believing that he had caught the Herald in his trap.
"Herald, I'm glad you could come to discuss an arrangement for the mages." Alexius announced proudly, his voice echoing against the stone walls. Ruby and her friends stopped at the foot of the steps to the throne, everyone eyeing the guards that stood between the columns with their weapons on their hips. He turned to the former Grand Enchanter and exclaimed "Fiona, would you grab us something to write down the agreements, and perhaps some refreshments?"
"I think Grand Enchanter Fiona should stay and hear how you plan on using her and her mages to rip apart the fabric of time for the Venatori." Ruby delcared, standing up to the man who was acting like a bully. His eyes widened in panic as he stood up as if he was going to square off with Ruby.
"How do you know about that!?" Alexius barked as he pointed at her.
"I told her." Felix proclaimed as he stepped forward, standing up to his father. Alexius turned towards his son with a look of betrayal as his mind raced through a flurry of emotion just to find the words he was searching for.
"Felix... what... what have you done?" He questioned in a breathy tone of disbelief. His own son had betrayed him, stopped him from trying to save his life.
"What I needed to do. Father, this isn't the way... you can't save me." Felix urged as he put a hand on his father's shoulder. Alexius had gone too far, and Felix just wanted him back to how he was; with him and not consumed with his pointless and impossible quest to save him.
"Maybe I can't but the Elder One can! I just have to deal with this folly!" Alexius barked as he pointed at Ruby. His look changed from anger to surprise as he watched his soldiers suddenly drop with their throats slit. Inquisition spies stepped from their hiding places with blades drawn with several soldiers walking out with blades in hand. His rage consumed him as he roared "This isn't what was supposed to happen! You are nothing but a mistake! The Elder One has power beyond your comprehension! He will raise the Imperium from the ashes! But you won't see it happen!"
Alexius pulled an amulet from his cloak and raised it high, green tendrils of light erupted from it. The power caused everyone to flinch away as a shock wave flew from it, a rift starting to open. Dorian bolted from the shadows and slid to a stop by Ruby's side with magic generating in his hands. He flung them forward with the same green energy from the rift and the rift itself started to falter and wane like it was losing power. But something went wrong... there was a flash of light and Ruby felt herself lift from her feet.
She finally dropped, but was now on her hands and knees in a dungeon room that was filled with about 6 inches of water. She looked up and around to see that Dorian was right there with her, the same confused look on his face that was on hers. They stood, only to be greeted by two Venatori soldiers with weapons drawn.
"Who are they?" One barked as he looked to his partner.
"Who cares! Kill them!" The other barked as he pointed at the two. Ruby and Dorian both drew their weapons, ready to take on the soldiers. It wasn't much of a fight, Ruby shot forward and sliced the soldier in half at the waist while Dorian froze the other guard and bashed him with his staff.
"Dorian, where are we?" Ruby questioned as she collapsed Crescent Rose. Dorian brought an arm around his chest and rested his other elbow on his forearm while he scratched his chin, trying to think of something.
"It looks like we're still in the castle... but... no... it can't be..." Dorian muttered as he looked around.
"What is it?"
"It's not a question of where we are... but when."
"Are... are you seriously saying..."
"That's right. That rift that Alexius opened not only dropped us in a different part of the castle, but in a different time all together."
Ruby's head was spinning from the thought of time travel, time travel, was actually possible and she had just done it. But, what about everyone else? What happened to them after they went through the rift?
"Well... shit. So how do we get back? You can get us back, right?" Ruby questioned with worry in her voice. The last thing she wanted to do was get stuck in an unknown time in an unknown world; too much unknown for her.
"I should be able to, after all, I did help create the magic. I'll just need that amulet that Alexius had." Dorian answered.
"Well, then we better find him. Hopefully he's close by and not in another kingdom."
They checked the bodies quickly, finding a key, and then left the room in search of a way home. The rest of the castle wasn't much better than the flooded jail cell they had fallen in. Walls were cracked and crumbling and sections of the ceiling had fallen down with small streams of water pouring into the hall.
"Looks like someone fired the maid." Dorian joked as they walked.
"And the stone mason, and the architect..." Ruby added, getting a small giggle out. The most important thing they could do, besides find a way home, was to maintain hope and not give into despair. They reached a room that seemed more like a sewer with a large platform at the center with two walkways going left and right with a drawbridge in front of them. Small waterfalls poured from ducts in the four corners of the room. Two soldiers were standing and talking when they walked in, immediately drawing their weapons. It was another short fight, Ruby dodging the swing mean for her as she deployed Crescent Rose and cracked him across the head with the dull end of the blade, the metal helmet crumpling with a sickening crunch as the soldier dropped dead. Dorian spun his staff and threw several fireballs at the soldier, igniting him and burning him to death as he screamed for mercy.
Once it was over, the two went left and headed down a set of stairs that brought them to the jail. Ruby looked in a few to find them inhabited by corpses, but a few contained the strange red crystals that were at the Temple of Sacred Ashes; Red Lyrium.
"Don't touch the crystals. Varric said they were evil." Ruby pointed out. Dorian shied away from the lyrium after hearing that, but then voices came from some of the other cells... and they were familiar.
"Ruby? Is... that you? Can't be... just the voices again..." Yang's voice grumbled from a cell. Ruby flew in a shower of petals to the source, but found a horrid sight. Yes, it was Yang, but she was sitting on the ground with her entire right arm covered in red lyrium crystals like they were growing out of her skin. Her eyes glowed an evil red with small wisps of red energy flowing from them. She looked up and her eyes widened "It... it is you..."
"Yang... what happened?" Ruby croaked as she grabbed the bars, seeing her sister wince in pain as she stood up, holding her red crystal arm.
"The Elder One happened...after you vanished through the rift... his forces came. Some of got away... but it was only downhill after that." Yang groaned as she slid over to her sister. Yang leaned against the bars and smiled, something that hadn't happened in so long. She grumbled "You're alive. I thought I'd lost you."
"I'm right here Yang. But what then? What happened after we went through the rift?"
"Like i said, the Elder One came. He had an army of demons, and he marched across Orlais after Empress Celene was assassinated. We put up as much fight as we could... but without you, we crumbled."
"Is... there anyone else here?"
"Yeah, Weiss and Fiona are towards the back."
"Step back, I'm getting you out."
Yang did as she was told and Ruby opened the door, attempting to hug her sister, but Yang stopped her.
"Easy Rubes, you don't want what I've got." Yang explained as she slowly curled her crystal arm. Several of the crystals cracked and shattered, which normally would have sent waves of pain, but Yang had't felt anything in so long. Ruby nodded, tears starting to come to her eyes as she saw her sister like this. Yang reached up with her normal arm and wiped her sister's face, stating "Don't worry about me. We've got bigger issues at hand. How did you get here?"
"Time travel. That rift Alexius created flung us forward in time, and without Ruby it seems like the Elder One had free reign. We just need to find Alexius, get the amulet and get back to our time and make sure that never happens." Dorian answered. Before he could ask his next question, Weiss answered from the end of the cells.
"I know where he is." Weiss croaked like she was in pain. Ruby flew yet again to find Weiss in a similar situation as Yang, but she had several small red lyrium crystals growing out of her left shoulder and a few sticking out of her back. She slowly stood up and continued "I've heard the guards talk. He's in the throne room, and he never leaves."
"Weiss, why is red lyrium everywhere? Why is it growing out of you?" Ruby questioned.
"I can answer." A weak voice declared. Ruby spun around to see Grand Enchanter Fiona in the cell across, but she was almost entirely consumed by Red Lyrium crystals. It grew from the floor all the way to the ceiling, emitting its evil energy, with Fiona in the middle of it. All that was visible of her was her chest, left arm and head. "We're... growing the lyrium. Like pots for vile plants."
"Holy... Fiona, what happened? Yang said the Elder One had demons... and an assassination?"
"Yes, without proper leadership, Orlais fell into chaos. Then the Elder One marched across the kingdom with an army of demons. He's torn the world apart, and killed everyone that stood against him. If you can stop them, do it... don't let this future be ours."
Ruby nodded and unlocked Weiss' cage, freeing her friend.
"What about Blake... is she?" Ruby started to question.
"We don't know. She was here a while ago, but the guards took her. We haven't seen her since." Weiss replied as she tried to move her arm, wincing a bit in pain. Ruby nodded and tried not to focus on what could be. They pushed on, hearing the draw bridge drop as they headed back towards the main room. Three soldiers, two with swords and the last with a tower shield, and a mage walked across, spotting them and drawing their weapons. Ruby and Dorian drew their weapons while Yang simply charged the enemy. She used her crystal arm like a blunt instrument and started to beat down one of the sword wielding guards. Ruby went after the biggest threat; the mage. She flew forward as the mage started to cast a spell, swinging her blade and connecting with the barrier the mage was able to conjure at the last second. Still, the mage fell flat on his back as Ruby skidded to a halt and swapped her scythe back into sniper form.
She took aim at the mage's head and fired as they started to get back up. The barrier was nearly useless as the round tore through his head, dropping him in a shower of blood. Weiss reacted quickly and snatched his staff from the ground, using it to create several ice spikes and impaled the other sword wielding soldier. Dorian spun his staff and froze the tower shield soldier so Yang could use the broken husk of the soldier she had beaten to death to smash the last one into a thousand pieces. The group pushed on into the next area, which lead them up some stairs towards a turn, but they heard someone yelling from a door to their left.
"Tell me what I want to know!" the male voice roared. Everyone looked at each other and nodded in agreement, stacking up on the door and then busting in. It was a torture chamber, filled with awful tools and machines with the torturer towards the back interrogating someone hanging from the ceiling. The torturer turned to see who had entered, but the individual he was torturing swung their legs up and wrapped them around his neck, strangling him until they suddenly twisted and snapped his neck. The person he was torturing was Leliana, but she looked like hell. Her face was sliced to hell with burn scars on her cheeks.
"Ruby? How? You... you vanished after the night in Redcliffe!" Leliana gasped as she hung from the ceiling. Ruby quickly went over to her and cut her down, gladly answering her question.
"We were thrown into the future, you're now. We're trying to find Alexius and get his amulet so we can go back to that day. Have you seen..." Ruby started to answer, but trailed off as she looked towards the back. She spotted Blake among the dead, or more accurately, what was left of her. Her hands were mangled, her gut was slashed, both of her cat ears had been sliced off with the finishing blow was a slash across her throat. Ruby dropped to her knees as she saw her friend, a look of horror on her face as tears started to develop. Seeing a butchered enemy was one thing, but seeing a friend in this condition. Leliana quickly put herself in between Ruby and Blake's corpse, trying to get her back.
"Ruby, I know where Alexius is, but we need to go. Blake is dead, and there's nothing we can do but get you back to your time." Leliana urged as she picked Ruby up from the ground. Ruby was still in shock, that image now burned inside her mind, dull to the world around her. Leliana fixed that quickly with a good smack across the face. She barked "Focus! We need to leave!"
Ruby dully shook her head and left the room, tears falling from her face as she walked, only vaguely hearing the directions to the throne room. She basically went into autopilot, barely coming to as they entered the royal wing and fought more of the mages to open the door to the throne room. The throne room was still the same as when they entered it the first time, columns and the large rug leading to the raised section for the throne. Alexius sat on the throne with Felix standing next to him, but he was different. Felix seemed like he was standing on his own strength, but he was slumped and stared into the distance like he wasn't there.
Alexius looked up with a dull look and sighed as he stood up.
"I knew you'd come for me eventually. I knew once you went into that rift it would only be a matter of time. Not that it matters much anymore... the Elder One comes for my head for my failure." Alexius lamented, his pitiful tone filling the empty hall. Ruby finally snapped to just to get some answers.
"Your failure? What failure?" she questioned.
"I could not turn back the hands of time far enough... i could only go back towards the Breach, but not before... now he comes to end me."
Leliana had snuck around during the conversation and slipped behind Felix, putting a knife to his throat. Alexius reacted with fear as he held out his hand and plead for his son's life.
"Please don't! I'll give you anything! Just don't harm him!" Alexius plead as he looked back and forth between the group and Leliana.
"I want the world back." Leliana snarled as she drug her knife across Felix's throat, blood pouring from the cut as Felix let out a pitiful groan. That threw Alexius into a rage and with a mighty roar he took up his staff and slammed the end on the ground, throwing everyone off their feet. Everyone's response was quick, getting to their feet and attacking Alexius. Dorian and Weiss began to launch spells at him, but he simply batted the elements away as if they were nothing. Leliana drew a bow and started to fire arrows at him, one hitting him in the shoulder. He threw up a force field that deflected anything from coming at him, but he didn't keep it up for long as Yang and Ruby started pounding on it. He used it like a shield and threw them back before creating fire glyphs around the area and detonating them, everyone rolling around to dodge the flames.
Ruby swapped Crescent Rose into sniper form and started to take aim at Alexius, but he saw it coming and threw up an ice wall to take the hit. yang went around him and attempted to swing on him, but he was just as skilled in melee as he was magic and started deflecting her blows, knocking them away harmlessly as he struck her with the blunt end of his staff. Ruby jumped into the fray, but was thrown back as Alexius toss Yang aside with magic, then blasted Ruby with lightning and sent her flying back. Dorian and Weiss started to bombard him with spells again, but he threw up a barrier that reflected them back, causing them to dodge and roll away from their own attacks. Leliana charged Alexius, trying to hit his vitals with her blade, but he slammed down his staff again and threw her away.
"I will not die here! I have sacrificed too much to get here! I will not die by the likes of you!" Alexius monologued as he spun his staff around, trying to generate a spell strong enough to wipe his enemy out. Ruby took her opportunity and pointed her rifle at him and pulled the trigger. Alexius' head snapped back quickly, a hole in his forehead, and his magic vanished as his body stood for a moment. The light died from his eyes as he dropped to his knees and then to his side. The group ran to the body, Dorian immediately grabbing the amulet.
"Alright, I just need a moment to prepare the spell and I'll be able to send us home. Ruby, just stand here." Dorian stated as he started his work. The doors they entered through shuddered hard as though something was trying to break in, causing dust to fall from the door.
"We'll buy you the time you need." Leliana proclaimed as she knocked an arrow. Yang and Weiss nodded, heading for the door and getting ready to fight. Ruby was about to go with them, but Dorian stopped her.
"If you move then you won't be coming back with me! You have to wait here!" He argued as the amulet started to glow green. Ruby was helpless as the doors flew open and demons poured through. Shades, Wraiths and Terror demons washed over Weiss and Yang as Leliana fired arrow after arrow at them. Yang was the first to go as Terror Demons over took her. She took three with her, her fists breaking their skulls and their backs, but two hit her from the sides, taking chunks out of her before one stabbed her through the chest. Weiss was the next to go, her magic tearing apart demon after demon, but it wasn't enough. Wraith slipped by her and bombarded her with their power sapping blasts, draining her of her energy until a Shade Centurion slid by her and slide her throat open.
Leliana was the last, arrow after arrow finding it's mark, only to be slashed and torn apart by Terror Demons. Ruby's last image was the black shadow she had seen at the Temple of Sacred Ashes, tall with long, clawed hands and piercing red eyes. The rift consumed them and they were once again lifted from their feet, dropped to where it all started; the throne room at Alexius' feet surrounded by Inquisition soldiers. Alexius looked at them in shock, but then sadness as he dropped to his knees, staff and amulet clunking on the ground as soldiers moved in.
"That's it then... I've failed..." Alexius grumbled as the soliders grabbed him and lifted him to his feet. The soldiers took him away, Felix following them out of the castle. Ruby and Dorian stood up as everyone looked at them with confused looks.
"It's a long story. I'll give you guys the run down once we get back to Haven." Ruby groaned as she rolled her shoulders. It felt like she had gone ten rounds with an Ursa, every muscle aching, but the worst was her mind. The images of her friends being butchered... they'd haunt her for a while. They were about to leave when twenty soldiers clad in golden armor entered, each taking a position to the side as a lone man walked in. he was tall with blonde hair that was spiked in the front and wore ornate looking leather armor with a fur collar.
"Imagine my surprise when I come to see my uncle, only to find out that the mages made a deal with Tevinter and threw him out." The man declared as everyone but Ruby and her friends bowed to him. Fiona went over to him, nearly on her knees as she attempted to explain.
"King Alistair, I can-." Fiona attempted, only for King Alistair to cut her off.
"Grand Enchanter, I don't want to hear it. I just want you, and those that follow you, out of Ferelden. Perhaps the Inquisition can take you as allies, or throw you back into the Circles. Either way, I want you out."
Ruby straightened up hearing that this was the king of Ferelden as she approached him.
"Grand Enchanter Fiona, I would like to extend an alliance between the Inquisition and the Rebel mages, provided that you help us close the Breach. We can offer you shelter and food in return for your services." Ruby offered. She knew that taking the mages in as, basically, slaves would only restart the conflict they had just gotten out of.
"Yes, I accept your offer." Fiona replied with a happy sigh.
"Good, now leave. I've got enough of a country to clean up without Tenvinter breathing down my neck." Alistair groaned as he turned and left. As quickly as he had come, he was now gone, leaving Ruby and her friends to the Mages.
"Well, that's taken care of. Let's get back to Haven and figure out our next move... and probably a nap... I'm exhausted." Ruby groaned as she headed for the door. Everyone followed her, all save for Dorian unsure of what happened after they went through the rift, but knew they had the mages on their side. they were one step closer to sealing the Breach, and possibly, another step in finding a way home.
A/N: And there you have it. Sorry for the wait everyone, but your chapter is here! What will the consequences be of this decision? What will happen next? Until next Chapter!
