A/N: IT'S BACK! And finished! The next two chapters are with my beta, the great Michaelfmx. Zettel and I have both been posting some heavy stuff...okay, Zettel's is heavy, might is not fluff, so I thought something nice was due out. Something that would make you just go, oh, thank God! So here we are.
I was reading the original author's note and laughed out loud about how fast I was going to get this done. Life. You have a way of getting in the way don't you? I know there are a few chapters left in this one, how many, I'm not sure. Welcome back to Wanting it All Ch 11, I Want My Dad
Disclaimer: I don't own Chuck, and this may or may not be based on actual events (not the fic, this chapter) (the accident not…you know what…never mind)
Chuck was sitting at home, thinking about his life. It had been three weeks since Sarah and Jordan had moved in. Things were just about perfect. The only fly in the ointment of their living situation was keeping Jordan's ears covered during some of Carina's talks. Chuck was sure she did it on purpose to make him protect Jordan. He wasn't sure why, but the smiles Sarah gave him really made it all worthwhile.
Right now he had decided to go back to being 80% semi-retired. There were no projects that needed him at the moment, and Chuck had been kicking around the idea for a new video game he wanted to produce. He could do it at his office, but Morgan would be there with constant questions. Chuck realized that when he was around, Morgan asked him questions about everything, but when Chuck wasn't around, Morgan thought for himself.
His phone rang, a number he didn't recognize. "Hello?"
"Mr. Bartowski?" came the voice over the phone. "This is Brenda, I work at the daycare. I'm calling about Jordan Walker."
"Is he okay?" Chuck asked, quickly sitting up.
"Um…he's going to be, but he's cut his head open and will probably need stitches," the lady on the phone said. "I've been trying to find his mother and father, but neither are available."
"His father is currently overseas and his mom had a big meeting today," Chuck replied.
"Well," the woman snorted. "She could have kept her phone on, it's not like it's national security."
"It kinda is," Chuck replied. "She works for the State Department."
"Oh," the lady exclaimed.
"Listen, I'm on my way to get him and I'll take him to the doctors."
"Are you sure?" the woman asked.
"Ma'am, Jordan is like a son to me, and my sister and brother-in-law are both surgeons. I can say very emphatically, I got this."
"Okay," the woman replied, and hung up.
"OH MY GOD!" Chuck yelled. He dialed the phone. "Casey, listen, this is extremely important. Jordan had at accident at daycare and will probably need stitches. Sarah is in a meeting at the State Department. I need you to alert Ellie that I'm inbound with Jordan. Also, please get a message to Sarah."
"Negative," Casey replied. "I will alert Ellie, you get Jordan there. I'm on my way to get Sarah."
"Solid copy," Chuck replied, thankful for once for all the training Casey insisted he receive. Both men hung up without saying goodbye. He ran outside, knowing he needed speed. That's when he saw the Porsche.
-ooooo-
"I want my Dad," Jordan said, sniffing.
"Oh, honey, your dad is out of the country," Brenda replied.
"No, I saw Chuck this morning. He would have told me if he was leaving," Jordan argued.
"Chuck Bartowski is your dad?" Brenda asked, confused.
"Mommy and I live with him," Jordan explained. "He took me to feed an otter, and he takes care of me. He's my dad." Brenda didn't know what to say to that.
Chuck stuck his head in looking for Jordan at just that moment. "Dad!" Jordan whimpered. Chuck's eyes got huge. He knew he was at a crossroads. In a moment of need, Jordan had called him Dad. Chuck was going to do for Jordan what no one had done for him. He was going to be there for him.
"Hey, Buddy," Chuck greeted him with a huge smile.
"He said you're his dad," Brenda accused.
"I heard," Chuck replied, giving Brenda a look. He turned back to Jordan. "We need to take you to see Aunt Ellie and Uncle Awesome."
"Am I gonna get stitches?" Jordan asked, terrified.
"I'm sure you won't," Brenda answered. Chuck gave her a look. She shrugged.
"Chuck…Dad, will I?" Jordan asked.
"I don't know," Chuck said honestly. Jordan began to cry. "But I'll be there right beside you if you have to."
"But it'll hurt!" he yelled.
"Yeah, it might," Chuck conceded. "But if I know Ellie, she'll do everything she can to make it not hurt, okay?"
Jordan nodded, tears still coming down his face. Chuck grabbed a tissue and had him blow his nose. Chuck threw the tissue away and scooped him up.
"Why tell him that?" Brenda asked.
"Why lie to a kid?" Chuck replied. Brenda shrugged. "How long have you been working here."
"Oh, I'm currently in college, this is part of my internship," Brenda explained.
"I don't want to hurt your feelings, but this may not be the field for you."
"I'm beginning to think the same thing," Brenda replied. Chuck just gave her a look and left.
-ooooo-
Chuck pulled into the hospital parking lot. He looked over at Jordan, who was putting pressure on the cut like a champ. "Proud of you," Chuck told him.
"Why, I cried like a baby." Jordan was upset with himself.
"Ask your mom how I reacted when I cut my thumb a few years ago," Chuck replied, grinning. He got out of the car, walked over, opened the door, picked up Jordan, placed him in his arm against his shoulder, shut the door, and started in. He saw Ellie coming towards him. She got there, gently removed the towel from Jordan's head, and grimaced.
"That looks like it hurts," Ellie said. Jordan nodded. She gave him a soft smile. "Let's see if we can make it better, okay?"
"Will there be stitches?" Jordan asked, terror in his voice.
Ellie looked at Chuck. He nodded. "Probably," Ellie admitted. "But, I've got something that will help, okay? It probably won't hurt anything like hitting your head did." Jordan nodded. "I wanna run a few tests, rule out concussion."
"You're the doc, doc," Chuck said with a grin.
-ooooo-
They were in a room, Jordan lying on a table, holding Chuck's hand. He was in a chair, right beside the table. He was thinking about how lucky he was to have a sister for a doctor when it dawned on Chuck that Ellie didn't usually work the ER. "Did you pull strings?" he asked.
She grinned at him. "My nephew has a head injury, and I'm the best neurosurgeon around, I TOLD them I was taking this one."
Chuck just grinned. "Am I your nephew?" Jordan asked.
"Is Chuck your dad?" Ellie asked, playing with Chuck.
"Yeah," Jordan answered. Ellie's eyes grew wide.
"I didn't know that," Ellie admitted.
Jordan shrugged. "A dad is someone who is there for you, who takes care of you, and who loves you. I have two dads."
Ellie looked at Chuck, amusement on her face. "Daniel is very good looking," Chuck replied, shrugging. Ellie gave him a shove. "If Jordan is happy calling me Dad, then I'm good with it."
"Does that make me your son?" Jordan asked.
"Is that what you want?" Jordan nodded, and Chuck grinned. "Then yes, Son." Jordan hugged him. He pulled away. "Tommy has two dads and they kiss."
"Your dad and I won't be doing that," Chuck replied.
"Good, because that would be weird since you kiss Mom too," Jordan replied. Chuck had to look away to keep from laughing. Ellie roared with laughter.
"I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a head injury," Ellie replied. She walked over and held out a tube. "Now, I'm gonna put this on the cut, to numb it. This should take away any pain when I have to do the stitches, okay?" Jordan nodded and she began to rub the tube around the cut, and lightly into it. Jordan hissed once and Ellie grimaced, but other than that small hiccup, it went well. "Now, let's give this ten minutes to let the full effect kick in, okay?" Chuck nodded. Ellie gave him a warm smile, and squeezed his shoulder. "I've got another patient I need to check on, I'll be gone a minute, okay?" Chuck nodded, and turned back to Jordan, who's eyes were closed. Ellie tried not to vibrate as she walked out the door.
-ooooo-
"Ellie!" She spun as she heard Sarah's voice. She recognized that look on her face, it was one of a protective mom. It was a look that Ellie had seen on more than one occasion with regards to Chuck.
"He's fine," Ellie said, assuaging Sarah's fears.
"What is it?" Sarah asked, seeing something on Ellie's face.
"How serious are you about Chuck?" Ellie asked. "No messing around. No 'it's complicated'. How serious?
"I'd marry him this minute if he asked," she replied without flinching. There was no hesitation in her voice.
"John," Ellie said, looking over Sarah's shoulder. "He's okay, but perhaps you might want to step back, because lady feelings are about to explode everywhere."
"I have to check on my soldier," John replied. Sarah gave Casey a look, and a small nod. She turned to Ellie.
"Okay," Ellie said, a grin plastered on her face. "Follow me." She led them to a room, where the door was closed but there was a vertical rectangle of glass. They, both looked inside while Ellie watched. Chuck was sitting there, brushing Jordan's hair back gently with one hand, talking softly to him, while holding his other. Jordan appeared to be asleep.
"Christ," Casey grumbled. "I think Walker's ovaries just exploded." And with that he walked off. Sarah watched him go, laughing. She turned to Ellie.
"I think perhaps you should get married before you have the next one," Ellie teased. Sarah bounced her shoulder. "Go on in, I'll check on John and make sure he hasn't thrown up." Sarah went inside and Ellie walked down the hall to find John in front of a coffee machine smiling. "You're not fooling me, John Casey."
"Don't know what in the hell you're talking about, Ellie," he said, taking a sip of the cup of coffee. " But, if I did, those two deserve to be happy." Ellie smiled and walked away, knowing exactly what he meant.
-ooooo-
"Hey," Sarah said softly as she walked inside. Chuck looked up at her. "Thank you so much." Chuck just looked at her. "For being there with him through this whole thing."
"I wouldn't want to be anywhere else," he replied. Sarah had a strange look on her face. Chuck had been thinking while sitting there, and he decided to ask Sarah what he had been thinking about. "So, if something like this ever happens again, and they call you first, will you please call me?"
She just stared at him, and nodded once. She then crossed the room in two steps, grabbed his face and kissed him soundly.
"I catch you two making out in more inappropriate places now than I did when you were teenagers," Ellie quipped as she entered the room. "You're probably going to want to move, Chuck."
"I promised I'd hold his hand while he got stitches," Chuck said to Ellie.
Ellie glanced at Sarah, and then to Chuck. "But you pass out at the sight of needles."
"I do not," Chuck retorted. Sarah was now sitting in his lap with her arm around him. "Tell her."
"I don't know, it was pretty convincing to me when you did," Sarah replied, with a grin and a shrug. Chuck gave her a look and stuck his tongue out at her.
"Children," Ellie admonished while grinning. "I need to work. Chances are he won't even wake up." They both sat there, Chuck holding Jordan's hand, while Ellie gave him three stitches, Jordan never waking during the entire experience. "Okay, he's good to go."
"Thank you, Ellie," Sarah said, standing and hugging her. When she let go she turned to Chuck. "And you…"
"I'm sorry I couldn't get ahold of you and drove your car," Chuck interrupted, looking a little concerned.
"My car?"
"Your Porsche," Chuck explained. "I needed some speed."
Sarah nodded, her eyes dangerous, and Chuck wasn't sure what was going to happen to him.
Ellie put a hand on her shoulder, causing Sarah to turn to her. "Perhaps get Jordan home and give him some ibuprofen. Then you can," she paused looking at her brother and then back to Sarah, grinning, "take care of my brother."
"Good idea," she said, scooping up Jordan gently. "See you at home, Chuck." They both watched her leave.
"Did I do something?" Chuck asked.
"Yes," Ellie replied. "You should really drink lots of fluids for the rest of the day." With that she turned and left, leaving him sitting there, confused.
-ooooo-
They were halfway home when Jordan woke up. "Where's Dad?" Jordan asked.
"He's away on a mission, sweetie," Sarah replied.
"No, Dad," Jordan insisted. "You know, Chuck?"
Sarah nearly ran the car off the road hearing that revelation. "When did you start calling him that? And does he know it?"
"Yeah, he knows, and I've been thinking of him like that for a while. Tommy has two dads, so why can't I?" Sarah really couldn't argue with that logic. "Chuck said he and Dad won't be kissing like Tommy's two dads because that would be weird." Sarah blinked. "And then who would kiss you? Because you only kiss Chuck." Sarah blinked again. "So where's Dad?"
Sarah didn't respond for a few moments, trying to make sense of everything that Jordan had just said to her. "He's bringing the other car home," Sarah replied, glad to have something she had a reply for. "Out of curiosity, why do you think of Chuck as your dad?"
"He loves me, and I love him," Jordan replied. Sarah really couldn't argue with that logic either. "Plus today, Miss Brenda from preschool lied to me and Chuck told me the truth."
"What were you lied to about?" Sarah asked.
"Stitches. Miss Brenda, who's not really nice, said I wouldn't have to have stitches, but Chuck said that I might have to, but he'd be there with me when I did."
"He was, baby, he held your hand the entire time," Sarah told him.
"I'VE ALREADY GOT THEM!" Jordan yelled, panic setting in.
"Yes, you have, and you slept through it," Sarah said calmly.
Jordan thought for a second. "Oh," he replied and then fell silent. When Sarah checked her rear view mirror moments later, she saw that Jordan had fallen back to sleep.
"So Chuck's his dad, huh?" Sarah muttered to herself. "Wonder if we can make that official?"
-ooooo-
Chuck came into the house and was met by the stares of Carina, Zondra, and Morgan. All three just shook their heads at him. Morgan tossed him a Power Aid Zero and headed toward the other side of the house.
"I didn't know you had it in you, Chuckles," Carina said, winking at him.
"Make sure and drink that and several more," Zondra said, following Carina and Morgan.
"What the hell is going on?" Chuck asked out loud.
"What is going on," Sarah said, appearing from the hallway. "Is that our son is in bed asleep."
Chuck caught the emphasis of the word our. "Sarah, I can explain," Chuck began.
"I'm listening," she replied, her arms crossed.
He visibly gulped. "See, Brenda called-"
"That part I got, it's the 'our son' part I was wondering about."
"Oh, that," Chuck replied, trying to figure out an answer.
"Yes, that."
"Well, see, Jordan called me Dad when I walked into the sick room, I realized how hurt I would have been if someone who wasn't my actual Dad told me I couldn't call him Dad when I felt like he was my Dad."
"Did that happen to you?" Sarah asked softly.
"Yeah," Chuck replied. "Mr. Vincent treated me like a son, and after Dad left one time I called him Dad. He said that wasn't proper because he didn't feel like a father to me."
"Chuck, does that mean you feel like a father to Jordan?"
Chuck was silent for a few moments. "Yeah, but if you're uncomfortable with it-"
"Chuck," she said, her voice low, and intense, and making Chuck feel many, many things. "I swear to God, if you try and walk back what's happened today I will hurt you, and not the way you like," she said, looking directly at one of his nipples.
"Sarah," he hissed, covering it, like it hurt. "I thought you swore you'd never tell anyone?"
She began to laugh. "Sit, Chuck." He did. "Chuck, today I looked through the window and saw you holding my son's hand and stroking his hair, and I had conflicting emotions."
"Sarah, I swear I tried to get in contact-"
She quickly sat beside him and laid a finger over his lips, her eyes tender. "You took care of our son, Chuck, don't you ever apologize for that." He nodded. "I was mad because he isn't biologically yours." Chuck didn't know what to say. "But in a fleeting second that thought left, because it wouldn't change how much you love him. He thinks of you as his dad, and he said it was alright with you."
"It is," Chuck replied. Sarah nodded. "Although we may have to explain what two dads can mean to him."
"I've heard," Sarah replied, laughing. Chuck shook his head, chuckling. She took his hand. "I've also heard about what you said to him with Brenda."
"Brenda may need to rethink her career path," Chuck mumbled. Sarah nodded, agreeing. "I'm not going to lie to him, that does no one any good. I mean tooth fairy, and all that, that's a different subject, but out and out lie…no, not happening."
"Good, we agree," Sarah said, rubbing his leg. "So, we'll need to get some legal papers together so you can have guardianship of him, we can do that after the wedding."
"We can do what?"
"Chuck," she said, giving him a coy look. "Am I moving too fast for you?" She swung around on one leg and straddled him, her mouth finding his. His hands grasped her by the shoulders and slowly made their way down her back, making her moan slightly into his mouth. She pulled away. "Obviously, I'm not."
"I mean there are conditions to this," Chuck replied. Sarah raised her eyebrows. He looked around to make sure no one was around and leaned in toward her. "You can NEVER tell anyone about what you mentioned earlier." She threw back her head and laughed. She leaned forward, wrapped her arms around him and kissed him gently on the lips, and then the neck, and her hands made their way down to his sides. They began to come across his chest before he grabbed them. He pulled away, his eyes wide, lips pressed together, giving her a stare.
"Promise," she smirked. "I have conditions too."
"Let's hear them," he said, beginning to kiss her neck.
She pulled away, and looked him right in the eyes. "Love me forever," she said shyly.
"Uh, done, don't even have to ask," Chuck replied.
She gave him a quick kiss and pulled back. "Never quit fighting for us, and I'll never quit fighting for us either."
Chuck nodded. "Agreed, we saw how badly that worked out in the past."
"And we have to have another one," Sarah said, not even trying to play it cool, as she unbuttoned his shirt.
"Another what?" Chuck asked, grinning, watching her, not stopping her. The look she gave left no questions as to what she was talking about. "Oh…another Porsche since I sullied yours."
"Chuck, everything of mine is yours," she said softly. "I want us, I need us, and I need all four of us to be a family." She leaned up and her lips were an inch from his ear. "And the only thing about to get sullied is you and I."
Chuck shivered. "Four?" Chuck asked, grinning. "We are talking family members, right?"
She bounced a shoulder. "Keep it up and it will be five," she retorted.
"Still haven't answered the question," he retorted. She started to swat him, but he scooped her off the couch making her giggle, but she hung on to him as he carried her to the bedroom. "What do I have to do to make it six?"
"I like the way you think, Bartowski," she replied as they entered the bedroom.
"I like the way you think, soon-to-be Bartowski," he replied pushing the door shut.
"Chuck," she said breathlessly. "Shut up and kiss me."
A/N: I think I found my voice on this one too! Hoped you liked it, reviews and PMs are always welcomed…til next time.
