Skylar belongs to me
-Chapter Three-
I jolted awake, silently cursing myself as I noticed that the sun was already starting to rise, I must have been asleep for at least an hour. Tiredly I gathered up my empty cup that once held coffee in it and started to climb down from the crow's nest, yawning loudly as I rubbed at one of my eyes. If I'm being completely honest, I just wanted to go back to sleep. Shuffling towards the girls' room, I had to conceal a squeal at the sight before me. Sometime during the night, it seems Nami and Robin had moved from their beds onto my own, all the of the felines curling up against one another for warmth as they slept. "Cute" I breathed out, smiling widely at the group.
"Wake up, you guys, it's time for breakfast" I blinked my eyes, taken aback the minute Luffy shot straight up from his spot. Running over the others as he shot out of the room and rushed right past me. "Well, looks like he's hungry" I quietly chuckled.
-Everybody's P.O.V-
Nami grumbled, eyes barely opened and narrowed as she looked towards the bedroom entrance where the black furred feline had run off to. "Damn idiot" she lowly hissed, standing up and following the captain as the others slowly started to wake up themselves. Until only Zoro was left asleep.
"Zoro" Skylar cooed as she gently poked at the cat's side. "Zoro, come on, it's time to wake up" her poking slowly turned into her slightly starting to shake him when he showed no signs of opening his eyes. "I'll let Luffy eat your food if you don't wake up" she jokingly threatened, smiling when the animal finally cracked open his one good eye.
"Fine" Zoro grumbled, sounding nothing more than an irritated meow to the brunette.
"Don't use that tone with me, mister" Skylar wagged a finger at the feline before making her way to the kitchen. She couldn't help but chuckle as she watched Luffy sit in front of the door, his nails dragging down its wooden surface while loud yowls that sounding liked whining/begging came from him.
"We're still cats" Chopper muttered as he looked down at himself.
"Yes, I wonder if this is just temporary" Robin pondered as she jumped down from the bed and made her way out of the room.
"I hope not, I can already feel my "I-don't-want-to-be-a-cat-anymore" disease starting to act up" Usopp said as he faked coughed. The second Skylar pushed the kitchen door opened, she watched as her captain shot straight in, his loud meows still reaching her ears as he circled around the empty bowls that he and the others had eaten from last night. Entering the room herself, she took time to ponder on what would be an appropriate breakfast food to give to animals. While she was busy with that, the others slowly started to file into the kitchen with Zoro the last one to enter. Immediately he plopped down and started to doze off once more.
"This is getting ridiculous, Skylar isn't a navigator, nor can she manage the whole ship by herself!" Nami frowned.
"Here, eat this, I'm going to go check the map and Log Pose" Skylar suddenly muttered after she finished filling up the bowls with a basic food she thought they'd like and some water before exiting the kitchen and leaving everyone to themselves. Luffy was quick on his feet, digging straight into the food and eating as much as he could while the other men fought to push him away in hopes of getting a bite to eat. Nami and Robin, on the other hand, followed Skylar, watching as she took a seat on the bench by the steering wheel. Sprawling the map out on her lap, she lowly started to mutter to herself, eyebrows knitted together as she pointed at certain parts of the map. Occasionally glancing down at the Log Pose.
"Need help?" she flinched as she heard Robin's voice, looking left and right, she soon looked down and yelped. It was an unnerving sight to say the least, three arms sprouting out of the ground with two of them having an eye on the palm and the last one having a mouth that was curved upwards into a smile. Beside the limbs sat both Nami and Robin, their eyes trained on the brunette. "You look a bit puzzled" Robin continued.
"That obvious, huh?" Skylar chuckled, cheeks flaring up as she rubbed the back of her head. She wasn't going to lie, she was shit at navigating and everything on the map was more confusing. She knew the basics, but that wasn't enough on these waters. "Shouldn't you both be eating? What are you doing out here?" she suddenly asked, raising an eyebrow.
"That's beside the point, Nami was worried that you'd get us lost" Robin said, her smile widening. The sight was still unnerving, no matter how Skylar looked at it.
"Nami! I thought you'd have more faith in me!" Skylar faked gasped, grabbing at her chest as she faked a dramatic swoon. "How you wound me, madam" she turned her head to the side and covering her eyes with her arm, looking as if she was about to cry. But the wide smile on her lips said otherwise.
"Yeah, you look real torn up about it" Nami deadpanned, voice sounding nothing short but a scratchy meow to the brunette.
"Nah, but you're probably right, I would get us lost" Skylar said, lowering her arms as she leaned down and stared at the orange feline in curiosity. "But, what can you do? I don't exactly speak cat."
"I think I can be of some assistance" Robin said.
-Skylar's P.O.V-
I had both hands placed on the wheel, palms sweating as I tried best to keep us on a steady path. Listening as Nami loudly meowed while she peered down at the map and Robin relayed everything the orange feline said to me from the arm she had sprouted on my back with a mouth on its palm. Allowing her to speak the directions clearly in my ear. "I'm still not used to this" I muttered underneath my breath, smiling a little at the small giggle I received. "How long will it take to reach the island?"
"Nami says that if all goes well, we should arrive by tonight or tomorrow morning" Robin answered after Nami meowed. "Are you sure this man will be of immense help to us?" she asked.
"Honestly, I don't know" I sighed, eyes becoming downcast. "Everything in that book of yours was written in a factual and realistic format, but that doesn't rule out the possibility of it all being fake" I said, looking down at the black cat that stared up at me with calming blue eyes. "But, hey, I guess I'll just have to risk looking like an idiot in front of a stranger if it means helping you guys return to normal."
-Later-
The sun had long since set when we reached the island, I safely docked the ship close to the shore to the best of my ability. Making sure that it was out of sight from the town and silently had to pray to myself that no one would wander this way and spot the ship. I did not need to deal with the Marines right now. My eyelids felt heavy as a yawn ripped itself from my throat while I continued to weigh my options in what to do. Wait 'til morning to go searching for some man I never met or leave now.
"Someone could possibly come and hurt them" I muttered, looking down at the sleeping cats that were sprawled out on deck after I made up my mind. Heaving a sigh, I made quick work in slowly moving each cat one by one to the girls' room, sitting them on my bed. It was better to keep them out of sight instead of leaving them all alone out in the open. When I was just down to Zoro, I couldn't help but stand there for a few minutes, holding him close to my chest and running my fingers through his fur. A gentle smile tugged at my lips when he started to purr.
'His fur is so soft, just like his hair' I silently chuckled as I moved him to my room. Once I was sure everyone was safe and at least fifty percent sure that the ship would be safe on its own while I was gone. I headed off to town. Underneath my arm, I kept a tight hold on Robin's book, knowing it was the only thing I had that would lead me to its author. The town itself was bright and lively, bustling with people that treated the night like it didn't exist.
I lowly whistled as I walked around, eyes looking around in slight wonder at all the bright lights that came spilling from the surrounding buildings. I couldn't help but think how much the others would have loved to explore this place themselves, especially Luffy. Moving through the crowd, I stopped people from time to time, showing and asking them about the book and its author. Weaving a false tale that sounded believable enough to not raise any questions. For the most part, I found myself being ignored or given a short "I don't know."
"Oh! That old kook" one of the showgirls from the nearby bar raised a slim eyebrow as she leaned up against the building, the cigarette between her lips having a trail of smoke leading from its lit tip and up into the air until it disappeared from sight. "He lives right outside of town, though I would avoid him, he's a little kooky" she exhaled a puff of smoke from her painted lips. The wisp of smoke dancing and twirling around her face before vanishing.
"What do you mean "he's a little kooky"?" I raised an eyebrow.
"From what I heard, he kind of snapped after returning home from his adventures" the woman explained. "Babbling out nothing but nonsense and acting as if those fictional tales of his are reality" she motioned down to the book in my hands before dropping her cigarette and stomping it out. "Anyway, I got to go, kid. Good luck with whatever it is you're doing" and just like that, she disappeared back into the lively bar that was overfilled with men loudly cheering as they drunk with one another. I stood there for a few seconds, just staring ahead in thought as I process what the woman had just told me and slowly I felt my shoulder droop in disappointment.
"So that's it, just the local kook" I muttered before sucking in a sharp breath and straightening my back out. "So, what, we've met plenty of people that have been labeled like that and most of the time it's the opposite" I said to no one, almost like I was reassuring myself that there was still hope as I started to walk once more. Heading in the direction that the showgirl had motioned towards, if he lived on the edge of town then it shouldn't be that hard to find him, right? I stared down at the book, looking straight at the name that was etched out underneath the title. Roy Wright, that was the man's name.
Everything written inside this book was supposedly true witness accounts of the strange and unnatural from both him and the people he had met on his voyage around the world. There were no pictures and the names of all the witness had been changed as if none of the people he had spoken to didn't want their existences to be known by the world. I flinched as an older man suddenly stumbled right into me, his body shaking as he harshly grabbed my arms and stared at me with wide eyes that overflowed with tears.
"P-please, you got to h-help me!" he sputtered out, body shaking as he painfully tightened his grip on my arm. He sounded desperate and on the verge of sobbing, his hair was disheveled, and his body looked to be roughed up to the point that the clothes on his back looked like nothing but rags he got out of the trashcan.
"Where are you going, lover boy?" a shrill, high pitched voice pierced through the night air, causing everyone in the area to freeze. The air no longer felt lively and cheerful, but tense and nerve wrecking as everyone looked towards the three women that walked down the street, the man that had been grabbing me whimpered when he saw them and suddenly shoved me to the side as he attempted to run. Only to trip over his own two feet and painfully crash into the ground. But, that didn't stop him from starting to crawl away, to most it was a pitiful sight. The woman that had spoken was tall and thin, she wore very little clothing and wore enough makeup that took away the beauty that her face would have had without it.
Her blonde hair was tugged back into a tight ponytail and on her stomach was a very detailed tattoo of a tiger. The drawing of the predator had it curled up around her belly button with sharp eyes colored an acid green that matched her own. Attached to her side was a whip that was coated in small spikes that looked like thorns on a rose. The other two women on her side also had tigers tattooed on their stomachs, the large animal in various positions on each of their flesh while its sharp eyes were the same color as the owner of the tattoo eyes. I couldn't but also note how their outfits were the exact same as if they were trying to copy one another.
The women to the left was short and chubby, a large contrast to the first woman that spoke, and the woman on the right was taller and had a bit more muscle to her than the other two. Which gave her a more masculine look, that strangely complimented her beauty in its own way. "Is that…" someone in the crowd of people muttered.
"I thought they left! What are they still doing here?!"
"When did the Crystal Tigers come back? They shouldn't be here, I thought were driven off of the island!"
"The Crystal Tigers?" I muttered, staring at the three women that were drawing nearer to the man and me.
