AN: Hi guys!
I am currently OBSESSED with Darren Criss and decided to write a story where he's one of the main characters. Klaine is the center focus of this story.
I admit I'm not that big of a Klaine shipper but I do like there relationship. :)
And Darren Criss is like REALLY SEXY! So I was bound to write about Blaine sooner or later. ;)
This story starts in 1956. Well the first chapter does anyway. The rest of this storybwill be in 1953 flashbacks. This is my first time writing anything like this SO PLEASE bear with me.
Kurt is blind and has a limp when he walks, more on why that is later. Blaine's not featured in this chapter but he will soon be. this story has drama and angst.
Ok, ALL I'll say. Please review. Please be kind. If you got questions, let me know. Thank you!
Enjoy! Have a nice day!-ILOVESMESOMELGEEX3
Chapter 1
Lima, Ohio-1956
Garrett Arthur's Art Exhibit Museum
"OK, Kurt," she began, "I have no idea why you want to come here."
Kurt sighed. "I told you, sweetie. There's something I want to check on. It won't take long." Kurt took out his walking stick and slowly opened his car passenger door. Before stepping out of the vehicle eighteen year old Kurt took in a deep breath of fresh air. It was exactly the way Kurt remembered it being in Lima in the summer, before he left to college in New York and before fate took his eyesight and made him blind a few years back.
The fresh air smelled of pine and woodsy and corn fields.
"Nothing ever changes." Kurt whispered to himself. Kurt limped slowly out of the car and almost tripped if it hadn't been for his college best friend Beverley Austin to grab his hand before he hit the ground.
"Kurt! Are you ok?" Beverley shrieked as she helped Kurt stable himself.
"Damn rock!... I'm fine". Kurt angrily muffled.
"Come on, Kurt. Let's go in." Beverley smirked and grabbed his hand and the two walked hand in hand as Kurt's walking stick led the way.
" I forgot there are a bunch of rocks here." Kurt again angrily muttered.
"Kurt... Its a stupid rock. Let it go honey." Beverley stroke his hand as the two reached the steps leading up to a very old almost abandoned looking one story building.
"Kurt, watch your step-" Beverley tried to warn Kurt of the steps ahead but he snapped at her.
"For Christ sake! I know! I remember the steps. The virus took my vision! Not my memory!" Kurt could feel Beverly's hand slip out of his and he knew he fucked up by snapping.
He lowered his head in shame.
"I'm sorry, Bev's... I really am... I'm just nervous... I haven't been home since..." Kurt stopped, he could feel the tears welling up. He covered his face. He wouldn't dare let Beverley see him cry!
"Kurt..." Beverley voice softens. He still wouldn't look up.
"Kurt!" Beverly finally snapped. He poppped his head right up.
"Its ok... Let's just go!" Kurt could feel her soft delicate arms hug him. Kurt's heart warmed at the touch.
Kurt was so lucky to have her as a friend. He hugged her back.
"Let's go in." Beverley whispered and off the two friends went inside of the museum. The late afternoon clouds ascending casting a dark grey.
Two minutes.
It took two minutes for Kurt and Beverley to finally enter the museum's doors. Kurt was weary of rocks so they took their time.
"Oh wow Gee, Kurt! Would you look at this place! Its SO HUGE! Neat!" Beverley's head turned in all different directions! Her fire engine red hair bounced in its ponytail as her bright pale blue eyes lit up with joy!
Even though Kurt was saddened that he was no longer able to see the Garrett Museum for himself anymore he could imagine the joyous look on his best friend's face. And that thought alone gave him peace.
He remembered the off white color walls and the MANY different pieces of weird art strewn across the place. He remembers the sculptures that local artists donated for the museum. This place was a historical landmark for Kurt. This was the only place he felt free and to be himself when he was much younger. It even smelled the same! A slight musky smell of old clay and paint and mold. It was all music to Kurt's ears.
"Kurt! This place is the bees neez! Why didn't you ever bring me here before!" Beverley whined.
Kurt chucked.
"I thought you said you hated art? If I seem to recall you said and I quote "Art is for conformist and drugged up Beatniks. "
"Yeah... I said that and I still believe it but still..." Bev stopped talking and Kurt grew concerned at her silence.
"Bev? You still there? What's wrong?" Kurt's voice trembled.
"I am so sorry Kurt... I got distracted by this beautiful painting! Its magical!" Beverly exclaimed again. "Oh yeah? What about it is so magical?" Kurt said with a hint of annoyance. He didn't believe in magic.
"Kurt... This painting... Its BEAUTIFUL! It's red and green and pink and all sorts of colors!"
"Oh yeah?" Kurt would rolls his eyes if he could.
"Kurt! There is a BIG blue flower in the middle! Its entrancing!"
Kurt's heart immediately dropped. Could it be? No it couldn't. Kurt's head raced with joy! He found it! He can't believe he found it! Well, Beverly found it but still...
"Beverley, put my hand on it." Kurt ordered.
'What?" Beverley said confused.
"Just do it!" His voice got louder. She slowly did what she was told. And as soon as Kurt touched the granite like textured painting he began to tear up.
"Kurt, are you ok?" Beverley's voice was so soft and he could feel her other hand rubbing his back.
Kurt was SO emotional. He found it! He could jump for joy but all he did was tear up.
"After all these years... This is it." Kurt whispered.
"What's it? Come on, Kurt your scaring me."
"This is the painting we came here to get back." Kurt said with conviction.
"This painting? Are you sure this is the painting, Kurt? I mean what are the chances..."Beverly couldn't believe it or Kurt.
"What do you mean am I sure?! This is it! It has to be..." He whispered that last part to himself.
"Well if your sure..." Beverley learned to never question her friend when he's so convinced he's right. She just gave in.
"Excuse me... Mr... We want to buy this painting. How much?" Kurt could hear Beverley talking to someone. He was so overwhelmed. He didn't expect to find it so soon.
But his joy would soon come to an end when he heard the next words to come out of this person's mouth.
"Sorry, guy's... Not for sale."
"What?!" Kurt and Beverley were equally outraged.
Kurt's heart sank to the floor. He was so close... So close.
