The few days until the trip to Amity was spent mostly with the leaders and other members going on the raid, going over plans and procedures on how to handle the new equipment that they had and what to do when they encountered a Divergent out on the field. No one other than the leaders knew Tris was a Divergent but Eric stated that he wanted Tris close to him. Jeanine had been interested in his statement but when he offered no other explanation; she let it drop, for now. Now that they were in Amity and Tris was walking alongside Eric as they searched the barn.
"Could you see yourself hiding out here?" Eric asked suddenly as he brushed his hand over the white stallion's nose.
"Maybe, but not for long. I like the excitement and thrills of Dauntless" Tris said before turning her head in time with Eric at the sound of Peter's voice calling them. Eric took off and after a moment of hesitation Tris left the safety of the barn and listened for fighting before making her way to it. Once she had Will, Christina and Four in her sights, she raised her gun and fired, Will crying out as his hands went to his shoulder where Tris had shot him. Christina hit the ground at the sound of her gun going off leaving Four fighting the two Dauntless that had been stationed on this side of the building.
"Why aren't you helping me?" Four demanded as he looked up. His hands already picking up one of the guns but he didn't have it in him to point it at Tris. He still saw her in her training clothes after she had been beaten and lay on the ground sometimes. He couldn't understand why she was now holding a gun to him, her eyes cold. This was not his Tris, the abnegation girl he had fallen in love with and tried to start a relationship with before this whole mess.
"We could have done this together, the two of us fighting side by side. Bringing down Jeanine" Four said as Christina lifted her head to actually see her best friend standing there. Grabbing the other gun she too hesitated to point it at Tris.
"No. Never. Not gonna happen. Is that clear enough for you?" Tris replied coolly as she heard Eric and re-enforcements arrive to back her up. She had found, isolated three of the four that they knew were missing, and they were very pleased.
"What did they do to you? Your one of us, fighters to the end" Christina said hoping to get through to her best friend as Will looked at the force surrounding them, Eric stepping into place next to Tris was all the confirmation he needed. Four had said Tris had killed her family to stay alive, and he believed that, but he also knew that Tris could have very likely found her place in the world.
"I for one am willing to hand myself over. I was only with them because Four found Christina and I." Will said struggling to get to his feet before accepting the help offered to him by Eric.
"I'm sorry it had to be this way." Tris said looking at Will only who gave her a weak smile.
"It's ok Tris. I understand even if they don't." Will said before letting himself be lead away, Tris turning her eyes and gun back onto her friends and almost boyfriend? Tris wasn't sure what to really call Four. Sure, they had kissed and he had protected her but Tris wondered just how he saw her. While she didn't agree with everything in the new Erudite Dauntless ruling, she was comfortable. She had her own apartment and was able to train when she wanted to or needed to.
"Tris you're a traitor!" Christina yelled and levelled her gun with Eric's head, Eric's own gun coming up to shoot Christina before an echoing bang saw Christina drop to the ground. Four took his eyes off of Eric before looking at Christina then Tris.
"You killed her?" Four asked brokenly as Tris kept her gun levelled with Four's chest. When she didn't respond, Four dropped the gun before charging Eric, the speed that the former Dauntless Prodigy was moving at meaning he missed his mark when he shot. Tris though was able to get a clean shot after rolling off to the side, Four hitting the ground with his hands clutching his stomach as the cloth rapidly started turning red.
"I knew there was a badass in there somewhere." Eric said as he got off the ground and eyed Tris. She was a sight to behold in her new uniform with a gun in her hands, and Eric felt himself fiercely proud of her. Tris looked over at Eric before glancing at her former best friend lying dead and Four bleeding as they carried him off.
"Thanks." Tris said dryly hoping to return to Erudite now, and hoping that there was on nightmares following this encounter. Eric crossed the space separating them and once he was sure they were alone tugged Tris against him before kissing her, Tris protesting and pushing his shoulders away hoping to break the kiss, only to slowly give in as Eric nipped and sucked on her lower lip. Her hands that once pushed Eric away went around his neck to hold him closer.
