It was the fifth dead body of a little girl in two weeks. Each one between 4 to 9 years old in age with their dirty blonde hair in pigtails. All wearing a white flower embroidered dress that at the top had a red -two inch seam that went all the way around and went down to the bottom at the spine. All those girls so full of light, innocence and laughter killed with a look of horror on their face. Nick couldn't shake this horrible and awful sensation that these girls who looked like his daughter; it was like Auggie could be next. Fortunately for him Auggie was on summer vacation and he can keep her close for the most part.
"Gris, what are we going to do about this guy?" Nick asked his wise colleague in front of him. (Auggie was currently rocking out with her Uncle Greggo in his lab.) Sighing Gil looked like he was about to regret what he was going to tell Nick.
"I am really reluctant to say it but I've called in the FBI for help." He told him with a bitter face, like he just took a bite from a lemon.
"But, they will just be," Nick looked around to make sure Auggie wouldn't overhear," Bastards." Nick finished in a whine.
"I know but the wrong section. I was thinking of the BAU, Behavioral Analysis Unit. From what I have heard from the other surrounding people these guys are very polite and are very successful." Gil said trying to convince Nick but it also sounded like he was trying to convince himself also.
"If you really think they can help." Nick said reluctantly. No one on Grissom's team liked bringing in the FBI.
"Thank you. Now to convince Sara and to catch this guy before he kills another little girl." Grissom told him, giving Nick a tired smile. Nick returned his smile and started to get up to get his little girl. "Can you get Sara for me?"
"Sure Gris. When will they be here?"
"In about three hours. Would you and Auggie pick them up? I would do it myself but I have a feeling my hands are going to be tied up with Sara."
"Sure."
Nicky had to laugh at the sight before him, both Auggie and Greg had on 'monster' masks with a pair of goggles with binder ring stickers on them. Greg was going over some piece of evidence and it looked like Auggie was helping him out by handing him stuff. The music was blaring, though Nick was glad to notice that it was music without the swear words or they were bleeped out. Sneaking in behind Auggie, he scooped her in his capable and started to tickle her. She gave a big squeal at the sudden attack.
"Daddy!" she yelled when he hit a really sensitive spot. Behind him he heard two panting behind him. He turned to see Warrick and Sara looking winded.
"Sorry." he said to them hastily.
"It's okay." Warrick said and started to tickle Auggie also.
"Aunt Sara! Help me!" Auggie called to her. Sara giggled at the situation Auggie was in. She put on a thoughtful face but that drop when she got the puppy dog pout. (She swore it was either Greg or Nick who taught her how to do it so good that she would break at one glance at it.) Gently she elbowed Warrick out of the way and lightly punched Nick in the shoulder taking Auggie from him. Sara set her on her feet with a last tickle, Auggie smiled up at her.
"Oh, almost forgot Sara, Gris wants to speak to you." Nick told her as he grabbed Auggie's jacket from the bench beside him.
"I was about head to his office anyways, thanks." She told him before heading towards Grissom's office. Nick looked at the door for a moment before ushering Auggie into her jacket.
"How about we go on a lunch break?" he asked the others, not wanting to be here when Sara explodes.
"Running from the Boss man?" Greg asked putting his lab jacket away, while Warrick grabbed his own jacket.
"More like, I don't want to be here when Sara explodes when Gris gives her the news." Nick muttered to Greg before leading them out the front door, Greg laughing behind them.
"What news?" Greg asked as they passed Hodges who was just heading in.
"Tell you later." Nick told him sternly.
"I call shot gun!" Auggie called racing Greg to the SUV. Unfortunately for Greg Auggie is very young, so very fast and him being all of 27 years older he lost.
When they got to the diner he was still pouting in the back with Warrick. Auggie laughed at him before getting out. Her uncle Greg was always being silly. Warrick ruffled Greg's hair making it even messier than it already is. Taking Auggie's hand he led her into the restaurant with Warrick and Nick following. It was not until they were situated at the table did Nick decide to fill them in on the situation.
"You know the case we're working on right now?" He asked them wanting to go about this slowly.
"Yeah, five little girls all between the ages of 4 and 9, dressed in the same type of dress and with their hair in pig tails. I'm not saying the next fact with Auggie here." Warrick told him when he noticed Auggie leaning in at the facts of the case. The unspoken fact was that each of those girls was brutally sexually assaulted. Auggie slumped knowing her Uncle Warrick was going to give up the facts.
"Well Gris decided to bring in some outside help."
"Who?" Warrick asked suspicious of who Grissom decided to bring in help. It was unlike of Gris to bring in outside help at all.
"FBI, the Behavioral Analysis Unit to be more specific." Nick told them slowly waiting to see their reactions. Greg went blank for a moment before taking on a face of excitement. Warrick on the other hand did not take on one of excitement; no he took on the look of indifference instead. Boy was Nick glad that he didn't have to say anymore since the food arrived. Auggie got a bacon-cheeseburger with French fries and a cream soda (and just this time since Auggie on sugar high was horrible.). Nick got the same except black coffee instead soda. Warrick and Greg got coffee also along with a salad or steak.
It took them a good hour or so to finish lunch because of all the jokes being told. This gave Warrick time to cool off and collect himself before he went off and said some cuss words that some little ears shouldn't be hearing. Plus Nick would have killed him if Auggie heard any swear words before the age of fifteen.
"So you're telling me that the FBI is coming to 'help' with the case?" Warrick asked when his steak was finish and all that was left was coffee.
"They are going to help they are profilers. They will apparently give us a profile on this guy." Nick explained as the best he could from what Gil had given him.
"So they're not the FBI from here then?" Greg asked
"No they're out from Quantico."
"Oh I guess that's better. When are they suppose to arrive?" Warrick asked after a moment of silence.
"In about….. An hour and a half. Auggie and I are suppose to pick them up from the airport." Nick answered checking his watch and forking over the money for his and Auggie's lunch. "Fork it up. I'm going to be paying for your guys' lunches too."
Groaning both Warrick and Greg got out their wallets and handed the money over to Nick. He laughed at them and then lifted Auggie over the table. Nicky set her down on the outside and gave her the money to hand to the cashier. It had become a routine for them whenever they went out to eat, Nick would give her the money to pay and in return she would get a lollipop from the cashier.
"Want me to drop you guys off to the lab before I go home to let Nala out with Auggie." Nick offered watching Auggie closely to make sure she was safe. (Nala was their golden retriever Pyrenees mix dog. Auggie got her as her fifth birthday present. And when he asked about the name she told him in these exact words ''cause she looks like Nala the lion from Lion King'.) This was Vegas after all so danger is always around the corner.
"Na, I'll have Catherine pick us since she should be on her way in from her own lunch break about now." Warrick told him, whacking Greg on the back of the head when he started to protest.
"If you're sure….." Nick said uncertainly as he lifted Auggie onto his hip, a habit he made when he is nervous.
"We're sure now go." Greg said making the going motion with his hand toward the door. Making a chuckling noise in the back of his throat Nick and Auggie headed out.
