Las Vegas Airport, 2:30 p.m.
Nick and Auggie had made it to the Airport just in time to see the BAU teams jet land. As father and daughter walked out to the airstrip Nick couldn't help but wonder what these guys would look like. Would they be like Men in Black or casual business look? The door to the jet open to reveal six people coming off.
The first one was a petite blonde whose hair was cut to her shoulders. She wore simple pen skirt with a purple blouse and black heels. The next was clearly an Italian gentleman in his late thirties to mid-forties wearing a white dress shirt, navy blue dress slacks with a matching blazer and Italian shoes. The third was the picture of the FBI agent from the movies, the black dress suit with the white dress shirt and black half Windsor tie.
The fourth had to be no more than twenty five with curly sandy brown hair dressed in a blue short sleeve shirt underneath a grey sweater with brown corduroy pants and converse. The fifth was a black man in his late twenties to early thirties with a buzz cut and a goatee sort of mustache wearing a muscle shirt, black cargo pants and black army boots. The last person to get off was a female with black hair down to her shoulders dressed in a red blouse and black dress pants with heels.
"Gil Grissom?" The blonde asked when she and her team were close enough. Nick had to admit she was pretty.
"Sorry no Nick Stokes and this is my daughter Auggie, we're from the crime lab. Grissom was unable to make it because⦠well to put it frankly hold off one of our co-workers. She's umm very prideful when it comes to our lab." Nick said rubbing Auggie's shoulders as she shifted foot to foot.
"We understand. I'm SSA Jennifer Jareau but my friends call me JJ. This is SSA Aaron Hotchner," she introduced point out .
"Nick Stokes." Nick said shaking the agent's hand.
"Hotch." Hotchner said shaking Nick's hand and then looking down to his daughter.
"Auggie." she said firmly shaking his hand, smiling up at him.
"Hotch, nice to meet you." he said giving her a soft smile.
"That is SSA David Rossi." JJ said moving onto the Italian gentlemen. That was a name Nick recognized.
"Nick. I've read one of your books, sir. Very good." Nick told him while shaking his hand.
"Rossi, Thank you. I hope that this young lady hasn't been reading it too. "Rossi said with a slight smirk on his face.
"No, sir, too scary. My name is Auggie." She said to him as she shook his hand.
"Nice to know. My advice is don't read them till you are of your second decade of life."
"The woman behind Agent Hotchner is SSA Emily Prentiss." JJ said pointing to the woman in black hair.
"Nick Stokes ma'am, nice to meet you." Nick said giving her his charming southern smile.
"Please call me Emily." Emily told him returning his hand shake.
"Auggie." Auggie said following her father on the hand shake.
"Short for August, right?" Emily asked her.
"Yes."
"That is SSA Derek Morgan." JJ pointed out the black man. Morgan stepped forward in to shake his hand.
"Nick." Nicky said shaking his hand not too surprised to find callous palms. He noticed that the FBI agent had at least three inches on him.
"Derek or Morgan please. I want to be able to have an alliance while here since our agencies (?) don't have the best track record working together." Derek said giving Nick a smile in return.
"I hope so but it depends on some of my co-workers. They've known to hold a grudge and be prideful." Derek nodded his head in understanding before turning to Auggie.
"I'm Auggie. Nice to meet you." She said shaking his hand and then high fiving it. They both had grins on their faces.
"Derek Morgan, nice to meet you too." he said to her giving her a knuckle bump.
"And last but not least Dr. Spencer Reid." JJ said finally pointing out the twenty five year old. Reid stepped forward awkwardly and Nick could tell the he was comfortable and yet uncomfortable at the same time.
"Nick Stokes. Nice to meet you Dr. Reid." Nick said giving the doctor's hand a shake. Reid shook back.
"Reid please." Spence said, giving him a shy smile.
"Auggie, it's a pleasure." she said following her father.
"Alright since everyone has met, if a few of you could ride with me and the rest in the rental SUV I'll lead you to the lab." Nick told them, bending down to give Auggie a ride on his back. The BAU team smiled at the sight they could tell that Nick loved his daughter very much.
"Morgan and I will go with Nick and Auggie in their SUV and the rest of you follow." Hotch told them picking up his go bag.
"Is it still on Chestnut Street?" Reid asked, shifting his messenger bag.
"Yeah, you a Las Vegaser?" Nick asked him with simple curiosity in his eyes. Reid shifted on his feet looking very uncomfortable.
"Yeah born and bred."
"Alright let's go we will meet you there." Hotch said looking to Nick who lead them to their cars. He handed the keys to Reid and giving him a small smile before heading to his own car with Morgan and Hotch following him.
"Alright Auggie you're in the back this time." Nick told her putting her down on the pavement. She pouted.
"Aw come on Squirt you don't want out hang out with me?" Derek asked putting a pout of his own on while he loaded Hotch's and his bags in back. Auggie giggled and got in the back with Morgan while the others chuckled to themselves. Hotch could already tell this was going to be an enjoyable trip.
Vegas Crime Lab, 3:00 p.m.
"So this is the Lab, we have the break room set up as a conference room for you. I'll bring you there and leave Auggie with you while I get my Supervisor, Gil Grissom from his office." Nick told them while he and Auggie lead them through the maze called the Crime Lab. The ride to the lab was very entertaining with Derek and Auggie joking around in the back.
The break room was 40 feet by 50 feet fill with and oval table that was used for conferences. To the side there was a mismatched sofa, two chairs and a coffee table. In the corner there was a small TV with a gaming system. The walls were made of glass and in the middle of the table, there was dry erase markers and eraser to write on the glass with. There were only a few things to show that a little girl spends the night there sometimes. There was the Winnie the Pooh throw blanket on the back of the sofa and the blue camo pillow half hidden behind the sofa.
"So I'll leave you guys and ladies here to get set up." Nick said giving them a smile before turning on his heel and heading towards in Grissom's office.
"Alright. JJ, Prentiss set up the photos on the wall/white board over there. Morgan you set up a video chat with Garcia. Reid I want you to get started on a geological profile and see if there is a pattern." Hotch told them as he and Rossi got out the files they had on the murdered girls. Auggie watched the team work in fascination. They moved together so fluently, when one went over to get something the other would hand it to them; they did this all without speaking.
"That girl went to my school." Auggie said pointing to the fourth victim of the killers. They hadn't been best friends but they had been friends.
"Did you know her well squirt?" Derek asked her suddenly alert of the likeness of the girls and Auggie. He did not want to say anything with her in the room.
"We talked and sometimes sat together at lunch but not much after that. I went to her house once." She told him honestly. She really did not like where this was going.
"Can you point to me where she lived Auggie?" Reid asked kindly, taking her hand and hoisting her up so she could see the map. Auggie looked at the map closely before putting her finger where Cauley lived. Reid gently moved her hand and put a red dot where her finger previously was.
"There, I remember because you could see the big 'MGM' pyramid in the distance." She said smiling that she could help out somehow.
"Grissom, Warrick this is the BAU team." Nick said coming through the door with her Uncle Gil and Uncle Warrick. Gently she wriggled out of Reid's arms and to her Uncle Gil. Smiling he picked her up and gently kissed her on the cheek. She kissed both Uncles on the cheek. They went around and shook each other's hands, making introductions again.
"Nice to meet you all." Grissom told them, giving them a hesitant smile.
"Could we see the bodies?" Hotch asked gently after a moment of silence. The three CSIs looked at each other before glancing at Auggie who was looking around innocently. It was an unspoken rule between the team that Auggie was not to see the autopsy room with any bodies in it until she was at least fourteen. Grissom was the one to come up with the solution.
"Hey, Auggie why don't you go get a drink from the vending machine?" Gil asked setting her down and giving her a dollar to get a soda.
"Okay." She said taking the dollar from his hand, smiling at the BAU team and walking out her door.
"Alright, let's go. Sorry about that she isn't allowed to see dead bodies till she is fourteen." Auggie heard her Uncle Warrick say to them as she walked away. She rolled her eyes, of course, she was not allowed in autopsy. She was too young or that is what her Dad kept telling her. As she came to the machines and got a Hawaiian Fruit Punch, she was just turning around when Auggie collided into a body. She looked up to see the new janitor's face that the lab hired in February.
"Sorry." She said hastily, he looked at her funnily. Auggie could not shake the feeling that he was not supposed to be here. As she looked away in the corner of her eye, she saw a hand quickly come into view and a cloth covered her mouth. She struggled as she felt her body involuntarily becoming weaker and sleepier. Subtly as she could as she felt herself giving into the blackness, Auggie pressed the 'J' button on the Drink Vending Machine, hoping, wishing that someone would figure out the clue she left them. That was the last thing her remembered as she let the darkness take her.
