In My Daughter's Eyes
To anyone who looked at Nick and Auggie could see how much she changed him. She gave him something to look forward to at the end of the day, but also the strength to go on day in and day out.
When Nick looked back on the last few years with Auggie, he could see the difference in himself. The way that she looked up at him like he was a big hero and that anything he said was right. It made him nervous in some ways. He and he alone was responsible for how this little girl turned out.
There was certain things that he knew he did not want her to inherit from him was the ill suspicion at that world. Working in the career that he did he was hard not to see humankind in a bad light. Yet looking at his little girl at the end of the day, it restores a little faith that not all bad is out there. So, yes he wants her to trust people unless given reason otherwise. Although he has to work harder at that than most with what she has been exposed to through his job.
Then there is the opinions that he carries that he does not want her to have. It was not until Nick became a parent that he would realize how much an opinion could hurt, or leave an lasting impression and not always for the better. No, Auggie needed to be able to form her own opinions of the world without interference.
One thing that would never change is that no matter what Nick wants to be everything that he sees In His Daughter's Eyes. He loved everything he saw in her beautiful eyes, all the hope and love. No, he would lose everything before he gave that up.
