Tuesday, June 29th, 2004, 9:00 a.m.
"I've waited a long time to be able to have you." A hoarse voice said opening the wall a smidge to come into the little space. She couldn't see his face but she could see the small space behind him where a little light shone through. Auggie remembered her daddy saying 'if she was ever in danger stall and try to escape when you can, if not find a way to let anyone know you need help.'
"Five Months! You were guarded that entire time. Five Months!" he yelled taking a few steps closer. All she needed was for him to be half way from the door and then she could make a break for it. Half way.
"I'm sorry about that. I just love my family." She said to him, slowly making a stand.
"You love your family! What about me?! All those signs you gave me?! Was that love?" He asked taking the necessary steps forward. She made a sprint for it. He tried to grab her but he missed by inches. Quickly she made it through the door and down the hall. She was a few feet down the driveway when a tackling force got her from behind. There was a sickening Crack! and extreme pain from her arm.
"Ow!" she yelled as he dragged her up by her hair and took her back to the unit. Auggie got a quick glance of the building. It was a storage unit! Now all she had to hope for is that he will make a random call.
"Stupid Bitch!" he yelled slapping her in the face and throwing her back into the metal box. Auggie could not help crying she wanted her dad; she wanted her uncles, most of all she wanted out of this forsaken box!
12:00, same day.
"How long have you known Auggie?" Rossi asked taking a seat in front of the interrogation table. Jim Brass was looking back at him with a cop's glare. He did not kidnap his niece.
"Four years this coming August." Brass answered still glaring at the FBI agent. They were wasting time on him when they should be out finding his niece.
"I'm just going to get straight to the point. Did you kidnap your niece?" Rossi asked placing a picture of Auggie down in front of him. He looked down at the picture in sadness before glaring at Rossi.
"No. Why would I kidnap my own niece? If I wanted time with her all I would have to do is ask Nick. I love that little girl as if she was my own daughter, I would never hurt I was not even here when she was kidnapped, ask anyone at the Thompson homicide." Jim Brass said. Rossi thought about it. The man in front of him was a Detective; he had too much to lose. They were looking for someone with barely anything to lose. Slowly he stood up.
"You're free to go. Just don't go far if we need you." Rossi said opening the door and heading towards the break room.
3:00 p.m. one day after Auggie was taken.
"Hey, baby girl tell me what you got." Morgan said putting his cell phone on speaker and setting it on the table.
"Hello, my fine furry friends. After having some fun hacking into the CSI database I have found one big fish." She told them, in the background they could hear the furious clicking of her keyboard.
"Go on Garcia." Hotch said standing in the corner staring at the phone.
"Alright, alright. Someone didn't take their happy pills this morning. I did some digging I have found that CSI didn't hire anyone recently but they did hire someone February of this year." Garcia said, sending them a picture of the janitor in question to their phones.
"Hey, that's Jaegar Antice." Nick said from the doorway. He honestly didn't look too good. The BAU team had sent him home last night, more like forced, and he didn't get a wink of sleep. If he end up falling asleep he had nightmares about finding his baby girl dead in a ditch or somewhere just as horrible.
"What do you know about him?"Reid asked, being guarded in his questioning.
"Um, he's a quiet guy, gets his work done and when he's near you, you barely even notice that he is there." Nick said looking down thinking what he knew about the guy which was little.
"What do you have on this Jaegar Antice, Garcia?" Rossi asked sitting on the couch. This just could be their guy. He was a janitor and his name as Jaegar, both started with J's exactly what Auggie hinted.
"Jaegar Johan Antice was born in 1964. He was originally from a small town in Germany and moved to the great U.S. of A in 1969 when he was five with his parents. They moved around a lot for a couple of years, finally settling in Kansas when... Oh." Garcia said filling them in on the background information.
"Oh what Garcia?" Morgan asked not liking the sound of that oh.
"His parents died in 1977, hit by a drunk driver. After that young Jaegar was tossed from foster home to foster home till he was eighteen when he moved to Nevada. While he was bouncing from home to home he made quite a nice rap. sheet for himself. Starting with inappropriate touching of a younger girl all the way up to raping a ten year old when he was seventeen." She told them, behind them Nick blanched; his little girl was out with that monster, possibly hurt and alone.
"You actually hired this guy?" Morgan asked not believing that they would hire this guy without looking at his rap sheet.
"There is a company that hires the cleaning crew." Grissom said quietly, yet the entire team heard him. The news that his goddaughter had been kidnapped had finally sunken in and he couldn't work on any cases till she was found.
"He fits the profile. Find this guy, Garcia." Hotch ordered, they were going to find Auggie if it is the last thing they do.
Auggie cried. She cried and cried 'cause she wanted out of this nightmare. She wanted her father, she wanted to have him hold her in his arms and tell her that everything would be alright. The more she thought about this place the more worked up she got.
'You're going to survive, little marine.' A rough deep voice told her inside her head. It felt like the voice was whispering in her ear. She couldn't help but think that she had heard that voice before, but couldn't place it. Her head tilted to the side wondering what the voice would say next.
'Don't show him you're scared, that will only satisfy him. You're going to be fine, Auggie.' It said as it faded away. Slowly the flow of her tears stopped leaving only tear tracks to show that she cried. Auggie straightened up and started to gather her thoughts.
Auggie felt something small and rectangular in her back pocket. She pulled out a cell phone, her eyes went wide. Auggie forgot that her Uncle Jim gave it to her in case something happened. She flipped it open and turned it on only to flip it shut again. Of course, the guy would hold her where there was no service, then again that's why he probably let her keep it.
'Check the back, August.' The voice told her. Auggie followed the voice's instructions and saw a GPS attached to the cell phone battery pack. Carefully she set the phone in her broken arm's hand and reached into her hair and got the barrette she put in the other morning. Auggie checked in her mind that 'yes' this clip was metal and that should interfere with the signal from what one of her uncle's told her. Slowly she got to work sending a message to her family.
"What theā¦" Archie said pulling away from the keyboard to see a GPS coordinates pop up on the screen with the signal blinking rapidly in a nonconformed pattern.
"Guy's you might want to get over here!" He yelled into the hallway and got his answer of feet coming down towards his part of the lab.
"What is it Archie?" Warrick asked getting into the lab first with Morgan in a close second.
"I was looking into something when this popped up on the screen. It's a GPS coordinate labeled to Auggie." Archie told them moving aside for both teams to see it. It was Warrick that noticed the irregular blinking. He focused in on it and turned to Nick.
"She's sending us a message. But I can't tell the signal code it's from." Warrick told them and moved to the side so Nick could come closer and inspect the blinking. Nick motioned for a pen and paper that was promptly put in his hand. Slowly he wrote down the letters being spelled out to him.
'a-g-e u-n-i-t' was on the paper when Nick looked back down from the blinking. He stared down at it in shock. Gently Grissom took it out of his hands and glanced at the paper with Nick's messy writing.
"A storage unit?" Grissom asked in confusion and frustration. There were thousands of storage units in the Las Vegas area.
"This is really helpful if it is from Auggie. It means she was able to get outside to see where she was. If they have cameras then we will be able to figure out where she is and ultimately catch Antice." Hotch said looking at Morgan who nodded and got on the phone with Garcia.
"There are thousands of storage units in Clark County alone. How are you suppose to figure out which one it is?" Greg asked from the corner. Morgan made a silencing motion with his hand and held his cell out in front of him.
"Alright, Garcia tell them what you told me." Morgan said affectionately, Nick could tell that he had a soft spot for the tech analyst.
"Listen up my crime-fighting friends. I went through Antice's finances and for a criminal he's not that smart. A few months ago Antice rented a storage locker from a company called Antonio's Storage and is still renting that locker out." Penelope told them bringing up the papers to recheck her work on the storage unit.
"Was there any video in the storage unit?" Nick asked hoping there was proof his little girl was still alive.
"Oddly enough there was. Apparently, even the dirty storage unit managers don't trust their clients. Though they probably don't check them." Garcia answered, restoring Nick's hope. The mouse on Archie's computer moved without his control and all Archie did was glare at Morgan's phone, everyone could tell he was still pouting about Garcia's earlier hacking. A video popped up showing Antice carrying a bundle into the storage unit and fifteen minutes later walking out without the bundle.
"Is there more?" Rossi asked staring at the screen waiting for more.
"Unfortunately yes, but I'm not watching this one." She said turning to the side and her hand up to the side of her face. The teams' watched as a little figure shot from the door and got halfway up the driveway before a figure that looked like Antice tackle the little figure. Nick felt tears well up in his eyes because in his gut he knew it was Auggie. He saw Antice drag Auggie up by the hair and from what he could see her left arm was angled unnaturally.
"It's over, baby girl. I think we all know who that little figure is, but to be sure can you get a close up on the face?" Morgan asked looking directly at Nick is taking it. His eyes went darker and from the thundercloud hovering over Nick's head he wanted revenge.
Slowly, they saw the screen move towards the little figure at the when she was being dragged back into the storage unit. It was blurry, at first, but the pixels started coming together to show the blonde haired girl that they know and love. Auggie.
There was a slam in the room and everyone's heads turned to see Warrick nursing two bloody knuckles. The senior CSI didn't say a word he just glared at the screen.
"Come on Warrick, lets go get you fixed up." Catherine said gently leading him out. Nick turned back to the screen, a strong fury burning in his eyes.
"Garcia, I need you to find what storage locker he is renting and while you do that please put the camera on what's happening now." Nick asked her, he was going to get his baby back today and he didn't care about the consequences.
"Yes sir, be back in a jiffy." Penelope said hanging up. The screen was blank for a moment making Nick more anxious Antice could be in with Auggie right now and raping her. When the screen came back to life, however, a shadowy figure entered the screen and started to move towards the compound. He looked over his shoulder and they got a good look at him.
"Oh Hell!" Nick yelled running out of Archie's and down the lab to his locker where he grabbed his gun and bulletproof vest.
"Hey, Hey man! What's going on?" Warrick asked seeing Nick sprint to his locker and about to run back out.
"That bastard is at the storage unit right now!" He yelled back at Warrick, not pausing for a second.
"Damn it." Warrick said throwing down the towel that he had been holding to his bloody knuckles and grabbing his vest also, his gun was already in its holster. The BAU team met them outside the doors and headed to the SUV's. Reid, Hotch, Prentiss, and JJ loaded into the one that was rented for them while Rossi, Warrick, Nick, and Morgan loaded into Nick's. Grissom, Catherine, Greg and still sulking Sara loaded into the Grissom's hitting the road at a breakneck speed, sirens blaring.
"We will try to negotiate with him, but if he doesn't we are to take the shot. Understand?" Hotch told them over the earwigs as they drove to the Storage Unit.
"Got it Hotch." Morgan said relaying the plans over to Catherine, Grissom, and Sara over Nick's cell phone.
"Nick I know you want to hurt this guy but we need him alive." Rossi said looking at the furious man before him. Nick looked at him like he had two heads, Antice kidnapped, tackled, and possibly assaulted his little girl and Rossi wants him to leave that bastard alive?
