"Oh. We're doing this now," Bri avoided his gaze as they walked through the parking garage towards Bri's beat up yellow Volkswagen bug. "You have to understand I wanted to say goodbye, but we couldn't risk it. There's some things that I didn't tell you when we were kids. Things I didn't tell anybody for a really long time. Things that are still really hard to talk about and not appropriate for an evening that is supposed to be fun." They reached the car and Spencer opened the driver's side door her.
"I understand. A conversation for another day perhaps?" he suggested as she folded herself into the car.
"Yes. I want to tell you. I promise to tell you everything, I just want tonight to be about us and the future not the pain of the past." Spencer shut the door and jogged around the car to the passenger side.
"I think we can manage that. So aren't you a little young to be head of the entire Archaeology department at the Smithsonian?"
"Look who's talking Mr. Joined the FBI at 22," Bri giggled as she put the car in drive and made her way out of the parking garage. "I, like you, have a very high IQ and an eidetic memory. Although it's not quite as high as yours I believe. I graduated high school at 13. I then attended Harvard where I earned my bachelors in History at 17 and then I got my first doctorate in Historical Archaeology at the University of Oxford at 18 and my second doctorate in Forensic Archaeology at 19 from Yale. I also have a masters in sociology from Colombia that I got when I was 17, I did the course work the summer before I left for England. Before I came to DC I was teaching Archaeology 267 Human Evolution at Yale and I did a couple of digs in England, Ireland, Scotland and France. I got recommended for the Museum position by my old mentor who was retiring from it."
"Wow. I am thoroughly impressed Ms. Collins. I always knew you were smart that's why I hung out with you." Spence smiled.
"Oh. Puh-Leas! You hung out with me because we were both loser outcasts and nobody would get within three feet of us." She teased back.
"That is totally true," he laughed. "You can go ahead and just valet park, I'll cover the charge. Parking is going to be a nightmare and I don't want to make you walk a long way in your shoes." She smiled at him and pulled up to the valet stand. Spence quickly got out of the car to open up the door for her and help her out of the car. She wrapped her around his as they walked into the Kennedy Center. Bri marveled at the high ceilings and the plush red carpet.
"It's beautiful!" she sighed.
"Yes you are." Spencer said. Bri blushed as they made their way to their seats. Spencer led her down the many rows of seats to the third row orchestra center.
"Spencer! These seats must have cost you a fortune!" Bri whispered.
"I know a guy. Don't worry about." He whispered back just as the lights started to dim. Bri sat back in her plush seat still giving Spencer a look, but he pointed to the stage and smiled. She nodded her head and gave a soft laugh and returned he focus to the ballet.
