I take a much needed deep breath and fall back onto the bed. My head throbs angrily at my temples and my throat feels scratchy and raw. Why did I blow up at Christian? He's doing everything he possibly can right now and I'm sure I'm not being the most reasonable person to deal with at the moment. A fresh wave of guilt crashes over me and I automatically feel the need to pull him into my arms and never let him go.
I wonder who was at the door. At least it sounded like someone was knocking on the door… but wait. There is no door to knock on. Just the elevators and you can only get on those if you have the security code or permission from Christian. I jump up from the bed and ignore the sudden dizziness. Christian wasn't expecting anyone was he? Surely he would have told me if he was and wouldn't want me to stay in the room if it was somebody is knew. I head out into the dark kitchen and don't see anyone. "Christian?" I call out for him. Where could he have possibly gone?
"He's not feeling very well at the moment." That voice. I freeze in place as a cold shudder washes through me. This can't be happening right now. Please, let me be dreaming. "It's lovely to see you again, Ana."
Somehow I manage to turn around and face the man that gives me nightmares. "Kevin." I snarl out his name. He stands next to the countertop with a slight smile on his ugly little face. "What are you doing here? Where's Christian? How did you even get in?"
He chuckles without humor. "I almost forgot how big of a mouth you have. You should work on listening more and asking questions later. Or did I not teach you anything before?"
"I don't care what you have to say. What the hell do you want, Kevin?" I have no idea where my sudden burst of confidence came from, but I'm just hoping that it stays around for a bit. "Where is Christian?"
"Oh, he's fine. I think. He might need some Advil when, if, he wakes up of course." My heart clenches in my chest. What did he do to him? Kevin takes a step in my direction as I take a step back. His greedy little eyes look me up and down. "You look like shit, Ana. What happened to you? Mr. Rich and Sexy learn how you really are? Did he have to put you in your place like I had to?" He keeps coming closer and closer until his face is inches from mine. "Did he hit you as hard as I did? Did he leave the marks I left on your fuck-"
I slap him hard. Without thinking I swing my opened hand out at smack him so hard across his face that my palm stings and his head flies to the side. "Don't ever compare yourself to him! Christian would never hurt me like you did you piece of shit!"
"Fucking bitch!" He roars and presses his hand to his face. "I'm going to enjoy this more that I thought I would." He grabs me around my waist and swings me around until my back is pressed up against the wall. His forearm comes up to press down on my neck as I fight for every breath. "Not so feisty now are you, bitch? I bet Grey doesn't even want you. You were just a broken little pet for him to occupy his time with. Let's face it, Ana, once he gets bored with you he's going to toss you away like he did with the rest of his whores."
His words hurt I will admit, but I have to stay focused here. I can't let Kevin have the upper hand on me. "How are you here right now? You can't get up here with security watching the cameras."
"Oh, but you can when you disable the cameras and freeze them on a blank screen. Come on, Ana. Don't you remember how good I was with computers when we were dating?"
I squirm in his tight grasp. "Fuck you." I spit in his face. His fist connects with my stomach and I bow over trying to catch my breath.
"You really need to work on that mouth of yours, sweetheart." Kevin leans down until he can see my face. "That kind of language isn't really ladylike." I take a few deep breaths before I swing my leg up and it connects with Kevin's crotch area. He yells out in pain and falls to the floor. "Fuck!"
I take the time to bolt over to the other side of the kitchen when I see a long, pant covered leg peek out from behind the table. Christian's leg. "Christian!" I run over and find his laying flat on the floor. His eyes are closed, but I can see his chest move up and down as if he were sleeping. "Christian, get up." I plead with him as I kneel down and take his face in my hands. "Christian please get up!" I gently slap his face a couple times pleading with him to say something.
"Mmm, Ana?" He mumbles.
"Yes, Christian you have to get up Kevin's here."
"Oh, I'm here alright." Kevin grabs one of my arms and yanks me up onto my feet. "Stupid bitch." He shoves me hard into the countertops edge and a sharp pain radiates down my side. His palm comes flying through the air and connects with the side of my face. "This is between me and you, not him!"
"Then tell me what you want!" I grab my side trying to aid the pain. "Tell me and then we can get on with our lives."
"But Ana don't you see. I love you. I want you in my life."
"You're crazy." I breathe out. "You never loved me. You used me. You were there to pick up the pieces and then you shattered them again."
"You love me, too. You just need to admit it to yourself." He continues as if I never even said anything.
"No. I never loved you, Kevin. I love Christian. Not you." Kevin moves around until were once again face-to-face.
"You're mine, Ana." He reaches up and grabs my hair with one of his hands. "You were supposed to be mine and then you went back to him!" He yanks on my hair and drags me back out of the kitchen.
"Ow! Christian!" I scream as I'm thrown down onto the floor by my hair. Kevin hovers over me, looking down as if I'm some nasty mess someone made on the floor.
"Why him, Ana? He doesn't even want you! I wanted you and look at what you did to us!"
I stand back up on shaky legs. "I didn't do anything, Kevin. You're the one who hurt me. You're the one who beat me like a dog. You never made me feel loved."
"Because you never gave me the chance! I had to do all those things to you, Ana! How else were you supposed to learn? I wanted to keep you all to myself and that's just what I had to do. We could have been so great together!"
A light bulb goes off in my head. I begin to nod in agreement. "You know what, Kevin? You're right. I did need to learn. I'm the one who ruined us."
Kevin smiles and nods his head rapidly. "Yes. You're right, Ana. Now that you see that we can work things out. We can finally be together."
"I would love to be with you, Kevin. Let's start fresh this time." I walk up to him with caution as if he were a junkyard dog. "Let's go talk this out and then we can leave and start over." I slowly reach out and take his hand in mine. If this is going to work, then I need to gain his trust. I need to make him believe that what I'm saying is true. "Come have a drink with me." I softly whisper in his ear. "Let's go drink Christian's expensive wine out of his glasses."
He nods as I begin to pull him back into the Kitchen. I notice that Christian still lies on the floor. I leave Kevin by the counter and reach over next to him so I can grab two glasses from the cabinet next to him. I then walk over to the fridge and grab out a bottle of red wine, always making sure to keep Kevin in my sight. He watches me as I begin to fill our glasses with the dark liquid.
"This is some good stuff." He murmurs as he takes a long sip.
I hope he doesn't notice the way my hands shake as I try my best to stay calm. I know I need to act now while my adrenaline is still up and I'm still able to walk on my feet. While he lifts his glass back up to his lips, I wait until his eyes naturally close until I reach into my back pocket and pull out the steel cutting knife that I grabbed while getting out the glasses. Without thinking about what I was about to do, I shove my arm forward until the shiny sliver point slices through his t-shit and blood begins to pool around it. "Stupid bitch." I spit out as his glass crashes to the floor along with his body.
