"I'm sorry; it was not my intention to startle you, my dear boys," the headmaster said, regretfully. "I've been listening in on your conversation for a little while, and I believe that your talking is very noble indeed. I have to agree with both of you. First of all, the diary should be published under Harry's name, you just have to think about publishing it now under Harry Pane or in the future under Harry Potter."
"Harry Potter is much too famous anyway; he doesn't need anything more; Harry Pane is better, because no one in the future will associate him with me," Harry replied immediately.
Dumbledore let out a long sigh. "Very well then, my boy. Now, regarding the book about the Chamber of Secrets, I agree completely. We'll make two copies for the library and for my office, with a subtitle, 'Translation by Harry Pane 1977,' on the cover. However, concerning the Potions books, I agree with Severus. Use both of your names; you have a whole year to think about whether you want to publish all recipes in the book or if you leave some of them out in order to have them 're-invented' by Severus later on," he suggested, smirking mischievously.
"That's a good idea," Harry agreed with his great grandfather. "Severus, maybe you should choose the most important potions or special ones, which we should leave out at this point."
"All right Harry, we can do that, but we'll go through all the recipes together. Is that all right with you?"
"Of course," Harry agreed, smiling happily at his friend.

During the next two weeks until the Marauders came back, Harry translated all the remaining books of Slytherin. 'How can someone invent so many potions that he can publish twelve books full with recipes?' he wondered in disbelief.
Harry and Severus decided to remain in their own rooms and not move back to Gryffindor in order to stay in a dormitory together with the Marauders, when they came back three days before the full moon.
On the first evening together, the Marauders held a small party in the Gryffindor common room. James and Sirius had brought butterbeer, and Severus and Harry had visited the house-elves to ask for some sweets for their party, and the house-elves, who were more than happy to have something to do during the boring summer holidays, had prepared a whole table with cakes, sweets and other delicacies for the students.
"Don't you think we should invite everyone else staying in the castle as well?" Lily asked suddenly. "I mean, we'll never be able to eat all of these things."
Severus smirked. "Who else do you think will be in the castle right now? Dumbledore, McGonagall and Pomfrey. Oh right, today Professor Sprout joined us as well; everyone else is on holidays," he explained.
"Oh, all right; forget about it," James said quickly, handing everyone a bottle with butterbeer.
To a successful night of the full moon, with only Animagus transformations and no werewolves," Harry spoke up, as he lifted his bottle, smiling in expectation of a funny night in the forest.
"What are we going to do the night of the full moon? Do you have to stay in the Shrieking Shack, or can we spend the night in the forest?" Lily queried, casting Remus a questioning look.
"We can spend the night in the forest," Remus said thoughtfully. "Normally, I could already feel the transformation several days before the full moon. However, this time I'm feeling completely fine, so I don't think that I'm going to transform. Therefore, I'll just wear an old robe, so it should be all right."
"I'm looking forward to spending the night in the forest," Severus spoke up, smirking. "By the way, Harry, curfew is going to begin soon. We better return to our own rooms. Good night everyone; we'll see you at breakfast."
When Harry walked back together with Severus, he realised that he had never experienced the castle so quiet. Of course, with the exception of the previous summer he'd never been able to spend the holidays at Hogwarts.
During the next two days, the Marauders spent the mornings in the Gryffindor common room doing their summer assignments and the afternoons on the Quidditch pitch playing Quidditch with three players on each side. Sirius as Chaser, Remus as Keeper and James as Seeker played against Severus as Chaser, Lily as Keeper and Harry as Seeker. They had a lot of fun. Although Lily had no chance to keep more than every fifth ball, James had no chance to win against Harry, so Harry had to hurry in order to catch the Snitch before the other side could score too many goals. Even Lily and Remus, who normally vehemently refused to play Quidditch, enjoyed themselves a lot.
On the day before the full moon, the friends had just gathered in the Gryffindor common room after breakfast, when Sirius said, "We made a great plan last night." Harry and Severus eyed him suspiciously as he continued, "You know the secret passage behind the one eyed witch that Harry has shown us before, don't you?" They nodded apprehensively. "Anyway, let's use the passage and go to Hogsmeade today. I'd like to go to Zonko's and to the chocolate shop as well."
Harry inwardly groaned, looking gratefully at Severus when he glared at Sirius and said, "Can you imagine in how much trouble we will be if someone finds out? The teachers are on holidays as well, so why shouldn't they go to Hogsmeade, too? It's much too dangerous. Apart from that, we have to be extremely glad that we're allowed to stay at Hogwarts at all, because normally students are not permitted to remain here over the summer, and I don't think they'd let us stay if we directly broke the rules."
Lily nodded her agreement and asked, "Why don't we just go and ask Professor McGonagall if we may go? Perhaps they'll let us go; I can't see a reason why they shouldn't."
Harry nodded, relieved. 'Under no circumstances am I going to crawl through the dusty passage,' he thought, resolving to remain at Hogwarts if they weren't allowed to go. "I agree with Lily and Severus. Let's go and ask McGonagall," he suggested, and the group went to her office.
Fortunately, the discussion about what to do if they were not allowed to go could be avoided, because their head of house agreed to let them go to Hogsmeade under the condition that they would be back and showed themselves in her office by three o'clock in the afternoon.
The six friends happily walked down to the town. After visiting Honeydukes and Zonko's, where it took James and Sirius two hours to decide which prank items they wanted to buy, they decided to have lunch at The Three Broomsticks. Harry enjoyed a large sandwich with Chicken Teriyaki and lots of salad on it along with a butterbeer, finding his meal absolutely delicious. Afterwards, Severus insisted on a short trip to the apothecary, and the others decided to wait in the bookshop, since no one else was interested in Potions ingredients. Finally, they managed to return to Hogwarts at 2:57 p.m. and went straight to McGonagall's office, knowing that the professor would be very angry if they were late.
Later in the evening, the friends went into the forest. Harry happily transformed into Icicle and played with the other animals for a while, until they realised that the full moon had already risen and Remus was still in his human form. The friends changed back and embraced Remus, who was sitting there, teary-eyed.
"Congratulation Remus, you're not a werewolf anymore," Harry said, smiling, causing Remus to hide his head in Harry's shirt and cry, while the others sat in a circle next to them. They remained in the same position in the forest for hours, before Remus finally calmed down and the friends fell asleep.
James was the first to wake up and hurriedly shook the others' shoulders. "It's nearly breakfast time, and we should head back, before anyone misses us."

On their way out of the Great Hall after breakfast, Harry whispered, "Severus could we make the Animagus potion for Remus today, or are you very busy with your studies?"
"Of course we can do that Harry; it'll only take an hour to brew it."
"Thank you Severus," Harry replied happily, giving his friend a grateful look as he followed him towards the dungeons.
"Here, would you mind preparing the ingredients?" Severus queried, quirking an eyebrow.
Of course, Harry did not mind, and a little more than an hour later, the two friends walked up to the Gryffindor common room with a small potions phial in their robe pocket.
"Remus, Severus and Harry made the Animagus potion for you. Lie down here on the sofa and try it out," James instructed Remus, who turned pale and cast his friends an anxious look.
"You want me to try the Animagus potion now?" he asked hesitantly.
"Yes, of course Remus; you know it's not a problem. You've watched all of us taking the potion, so go on," Sirius said impatiently.
'Maybe we shouldn't force him to do it,' Harry thought. 'It's understandable that he is not too keen on changing into an animal after being a werewolf for so many years.' However, he did not voice his thoughts, seeing that Remus already complied.
Remus sighed and lay down on the sofa after quickly gulping down the cool liquid. After a few seconds, he started changing into a light brown bear. Everyone stared at him and gasped.
"A bear?" Harry asked finally, looking at his friend with a mixture of disbelief and amazement.
"It seems so," James agreed, smirking.
"But…" added Lily, causing Severus to shake his head.
Then he commented, "As eloquent as ever, all of you. Remus seems to be a bear, a very nice one as well. Congratulations, Remus. Now go on and practise transforming into your teddy bear form."
Until lunch, everyone kept trying to give Remus good advice how to manage the Animagus transformation, and by the time they had to go down to the Great Hall, Remus already managed to change his arms and legs into the four legs of the bear.
'Maybe he can do it faster than everyone else, because his body is used to the transformation into the wolf,' Harry thought in amazement, as he followed the others through the otherwise empty halls.

By the time the Marauders came back to Hogwarts for the next full moon, Harry and Severus had already completed their summer assignments, and Harry had spent much time assisting Severus in the Potions classroom. Knowing that Severus was training for his Potions Master's exam, Madam Pomfrey had secretly asked him for several potions, knowing that the boy was much more cooperative than the Potions professor.
Expecting their friends to come back that morning, Harry and Severus happily trailed down to the Great Hall; however, when they opened one of the entrance doors to the Great Hall, they noticed that the hall was in darkness and stopped dead in their tracks.
Harry had never seen the Great Hall so dark, and he cautiously took a step backwards, until suddenly the lights flared on and the ceiling cleared as everyone shouted, "Happy Birthday!" Harry cast a questioning look at Severus, who merely shrugged as he pulled him into the Great Hall.
'Whose birthday is it? If I'm supposed to attend a birthday party, they should at least tell me for whom the party is,' Harry mused as he quietly slipped into the empty seat between Severus and Lily, noticing uncomfortably that everyone was watching him.
"Harry," his great grandmother, who was sitting just opposite Harry, finally broke the silence. "It's your birthday, Harry. You're seventeen today. Congratulations dear."
Harry could not help but glare at her, open-mouthed. 'It's my birthday?' he mused in disbelief. He had completely forgotten his own birthday. 'Not that it matters, but that's too cool. I can spend my birthday together with my parents and friends,' he thought. 'I'm seventeen, but it's my second birthday together with my parents.'
"Now Harry," his great grandfather pulled him out of his thoughts, "you have to blow out the candles and distribute your birthday cake." He waved his hand over the large birthday cake that Harry had not even noticed beforehand, and the seventeen candles on the cake lit."
After breakfast, his great grandmother led Harry to a table full of presents. The best present was from his great grandfather, who handed him a book in a dark green cover, which was decorated with small twinkling stars. Harry curiously glanced at the title.
'The diary of Salazar Slytherin - translated and edited by Harry Pane'
"Flourish and Blotts agreed to print it for me with a first print run of 250 copies," Dumbledore explained, smiling at the excited boy. "Your name on the cover is charmed. Whenever you're known under a different name, the name will adjust itself accordingly. I received twenty complementary copies and would like to ask you for one for the library and one for my office; the other eighteen copies are for you to keep or give to your friends or whatever you want to do with them."
Harry was stunned but managed to say, "Great grandfather, that's the best birthday present I've ever received! Thank you so much for doing this for me."
From his great grandmother he received the complete school books for his seventh year, James gave him a subscription to 'Quidditch Monthly' for seventeen months, and in the package from Sirius, Harry found a large box of Bertie Botts every flavour beans. As usual, Remus gave him chocolate frogs, and from Severus, Lily and Pomfrey he received books; 'Master Potion Makers Through the Ages' from Severus, 'Everyday Charms for Everyday Uses' from Lily and 'Emergency Healing Potions for Witches and Wizards' from Pomfrey.
When Harry finished opening his presents and had thanked everyone, Hagrid, who had in the meantime returned to the castle, walked over to Harry and handed him a small wooden box with holes on both sides.
