COMPLETELY AU! Partly OOC! Time travel!

During the last three weeks of the summer holidays, Harry and Severus were very busy. Severus still had to brew several potions, which he had promised Pomfrey, and Harry usually assisted his friend. They also wanted to do more research for charms that were useful for the map and further explore the Chamber of Secrets, ask Amaterasu for some more potions ingredients, read Salazar's books and use the potions lab. Moreover, on top of all this Dumbledore had decided to give Harry and Severus Apparition lessons, so that they could get their license just before the end of the holidays.

On the last day before the other students were supposed to come back, Dumbledore took Harry and Severus to the Ministry of Magic for their Apparition tests. They took the Floo to the Ministry and after the tests, which fortunately went well, made a short trip to Diagon Alley for an ice cream. When they were sitting at Fortescue's ice cream parlour, Dumbledore seemed pensive for a moment before he spoke up.

"Harry and Severus, I have something to discuss with you, and to put it briefly, both of you will not return to your dormitories tomorrow."

"What?" Harry furiously interrupted the headmaster.

"It's all right Harry, don't make yourself so upset," Severus tried to calm him, soothingly placing a hand on Harry's arm.

"Let me explain first please Harry," Dumbledore continued to speak. First of all, there is an issue that I'd like to discuss with you Severus," he added, gently.

Severus quirked an eyebrow. "What might that be Professor?"

Dumbledore smirked. "Your teachers and I have decided to make you and Lily our new head boy and head girl."

"Wow, congratulations Severus!" Harry blurted out in amazement, and a small smile appeared on Severus' face.

"Anyway, the head boy and the head girl usually have their own rooms, either in their respective houses or adjacent rooms at a central location within the school. Now, as you know, there's a third room in your apartment, which I was thinking to assign Lily. What do you think, Severus?"

"Yes, Professor, I believe that's a very good idea. Thank you so much for your consideration," Severus replied, nodding his agreement.

"You're very welcome my boy. Further, I thought that it would be nice for you, Harry, to remain in the room that you're occupying now, close to your best friends." With that, he ended his explanation, giving Harry a questioning look.

'On the one hand, I'd prefer returning to my dormitory, on the other hand, I'd be close to my best friends,' Harry mused and finally shrugged. "All right sir," he replied, unsure how to feel about the matter.

Finally, Harry's friends returned to Hogwarts, and the seventh years sat around the Gryffindor table, more or less listening to the Sorting.

"We need a new Keeper for our Quidditch team," James announced. "Remus, you've played so well during the holidays that you'll have to find a new excuse for not playing."

"If you believe that I'm good enough, I'd like to play," Remus replied eagerly. Now he didn't have to save all his powers for the transformation on every full moon, so why shouldn't he play?

"Which means that our team is already complete. Brilliant," Sirius shouted, enthusiastically, and Harry nodded his agreement, just when food appeared on the tables. "Oops, I didn't even notice that the Sorting was over. Did Dumbledore already say who the head girl and head boy are?" Sirius asked.

"No, but I already know who it is," Harry mumbled.

"Then tell us Harry," Sirius insisted, looking at him in expectation.

Harry cast Lily a questioning glance, only to notice that she seemed to be ignoring the whole conversation. "As far as I know, it's Lily and Severus," he said, smiling fondly at his mother. "By the way, James," he addressed his father, "I've thought about something. What about a Quidditch game students against teachers? We'd have to have one team, consisting of members of all four house teams that could play against a teachers' team."

"Oh wow, that's a brilliant idea. Too bad that it didn't come from me," Sirius shouted over the table.

"We could also make this team a real school team and organize a tournament against Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. How's that?" Harry extended his idea.

"Only under the condition that you'll be the team captain," James demanded, "and we can discuss the details later in our dormitory."

"I think that'll be for Dumbledore to decide… if he agrees at all. I'll go and ask him later," Harry promised, before he added, "I'm not allowed to stay in the dormitory. Dumbledore requested that I remain in the room, where I lived during the summer."

"Did he tell you a reason?" Remus asked quietly.

"No," Harry answered in a small voice, only for Remus to hear.

Right after dinner, Harry walked by the head table and addressed his grandmother. "I've something much to discuss, he hesitantly addressed the professor"

"And what might that be?" his great grandmother asked in apparent surprise.

"We should found a Hogwarts Quidditch team out of the best Quidditch players of all teams and organize a tournament a) against the teachers and b) against Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. What do you think?" Harry quickly suggested his plan.

McGonagall listened to his explanation in apparent amazement. "Oh my, Harry, that's a brilliant idea. Let's go to the headmaster's office and discuss the matter with Albus. Could you flash us over?" she asked excitedly.

An instant later, they arrived in Dumbledore's office, where McGonagall informed her husband of Harry's idea.

"And who is going to play on the Hogwarts Quidditch team?" Dumbledore asked, his eyes twinkling merrily.

"You'd have to name a captain for the team; James already suggested me, but the other teams will want to propose someone as well; and the captain either has to do tryouts or closely observe the practice and games of the other teams. And of course it must be someone, who is a member of one of the house teams," Harry replied, shrugging.

Dumbledore glanced at McGonagall, who nodded with a smile playing on her lips. "Very well, Harry, as you said correctly it's up to me to name the captain. Professor McGonagall and I have decided to entrust you with this position," he then said, smirking. "Harry, are you willing to take over the position?" he asked, giving his grandson a sharp look.

"I'd like that," Harry replied, happily.

"The captain of course has to set up the team; whereby you don't have to try out of course, because as the captain you must be on the team. You also have to communicate with the other schools and organize the tournament. However, since it's the first time, I will write a letter to the headmasters of both schools and ask them to name a contact person for you," the headmaster promised, only to continue, "However, all appointments and dates have to be discussed with me in advance. Is that clear?"

"Yes of course, Granddad. Thank you very much," Harry replied, wondering if he would be able to organize such a tournament.

"Then everything is clear; I will announce it to the school tomorrow morning, and maybe you should post a notice about tryouts for the school team. Now I believe that it's time for you to return to your room."

Harry bade his grandparents good night and after a short detour to his dormitory to tell the others the good news returned to the rooms, which he shared with Lily and Severus.

At breakfast the next morning, Dumbledore informed the students about the new invention and motioned Harry to explain the matter to the students.

Harry hesitantly rose from his seat, thoughtfully clearing his throat, before he began to speak. "For the school team, we need two full teams, one first team and one reserve team. I hope that you all will understand that I'm going to play Seeker, but I still need a reserve Seeker of course. As we need fourteen team members, I'd like to have three or four players from each house team. If you're interested, you can either talk to me or tell your team captain, and I'd like all team captains to join me here for a short discussion after dinner tonight. Practice for the school team will be every Sunday morning right after breakfast. In case we have more players than needed, we'll have tryouts next Sunday. Thank you."

Loud murmurs started as soon as he sat down again, and he could hear cheering voices from the sides of the House tables, where several members of the Quidditch team were sitting together. 'Perhaps my idea wasn't too bad,' he contemplated, grinning inwardly.

"Harry!" Lily's voice brought him back to reality. His mother was standing behind him, trying to hand him his lessons plan.

"Ah, thank you Lily," he said in confusion. 'Right, it's the first day of classes, not the day of Quidditch tryouts,' he realised, slowly rubbing his forehead to focus on the tasks ahead.

"Now come on Harry, or we're going to be late for class," James admonished him lightly, and Harry hurried behind his friends to the Transfiguration classroom.

"You will notice that seventh year Transfiguration will be more difficult than in your previous school years. Don't forget that you'll have to take your NEWTs at the end of the school year, and it won't be sufficient to review two weeks before the exams, but you will need utmost concentration throughout the whole year. While we spent the last year transfiguring objects into living animals, this year the Transfiguration of a living object into another living object will be the main focus. The few of you, who've already managed the Animagus transformation, will be able to gain additional points in your NEWTs. Please understand that it is not under any circumstances allowed to transfigure any of your classmates into animals. This kind of Transfiguration will lead to your immediate expulsion." With this, the stern Transfiguration teacher ended her lecture.

"Today we'll try to transfigure our pink rabbits into black cats." McGonagall pointed her wand at a box that was filled with buttons, and one button floated towards each of the students. "First of all, transfigure your button into a pink rabbit," she instructed the class.

Harry used wandless magic and immediately stunned the rabbit.

"Hey, Harry, is your rabbit alive at all?" Sirius asked from behind him.

"Of course; it's only stunned," Harry said coolly, and a few of his classmates, whose rabbits were running around the room, looked at him in apparent amazement. 'Oh well, I don't like rabbits, I want you to be a black kitten,' he thought, and a cute black kitten with a white nose was sitting on his table. He cancelled the stunning spell, and the kitten jumped off the table and ran around the room chasing a few pink rabbits. Soon it was joined by a few more black cats.

"Very good Mr. Pane," McGonagall said in appreciation, awarding ten points to Gryffindor.

'Thank Merlin; that went well,' Harry thought, inwardly sighing in relief.

Harry was glad that the next class was Potions, because he wanted to discuss something with Severus. Luckily, he was already sitting in the front row of the classroom.
